We started 32 hours ago with 180 of Division three’s best. We’re down to 20 here on Saturday night, along with our talented crew with Dennis Lemaire. I’m Darren Swenson from the Lacrosse Center in downtown La Crosse, Wisconsin. It’s the Division three wrestling finals here tonight on NCAA.com. And Dennis,

One thing that’s cool to see we’ll get to the team race in a few minutes. But representation in many ways very impressive here at this tournament. That’s right Darren. It’s amazing to be here on the banks of the beautiful Mississippi River, La Crosse Wisconsin. Let’s set the

Table a little bit. As you said, we started with six regions, 1125 wrestlers. We got the field down to 180 wrestlers across ten weight classes here tonight. Tonight we’re going to showcase the best of the best 20 wrestlers fighting to stand on top of the podium right across

The arena from us. Only ten will be crowned national champions, but all of them are all Americans here tonight. We’ve got 13 schools, 11 states, two sophomores, ten juniors, eight seniors. Like you said, a diverse crowd here in La Crosse. Darren, this is it. This is Saturday night, Division three national championships. That’s

What we’ve got to look forward to. I’m excited. This crowd is amazing. We’re ready to go. How about the atmosphere this weekend in La Crosse? It’s been electric since that first whistle Friday morning at 11 a.m. It has the one thing different that you see a lot of

Times between the D3 and the D1. National championships are the people. It’s the crowd, it’s the wrestlers. This place is packed with wrestlers ready to go cheering on their their teammates, their students that are here with them, families, everybody. The lacrosse has been amazing. You step outside this arena and there’s fans

Everywhere. I couldn’t go into a restaurant down here without getting into a wrestling conversation. It’s great to see. Third time in 13 years that La Crosse has hosted this event, and they always do a great job with it. And this arena has some great wrestling history in this building. That’s right. We’ve

Seen the National, the D3 national champions here multiple times. There’s also other events that we’ve seen come to this this arena here down La Crosse Center in downtown La Crosse. It’s a great environment. The area these guys put on a good tournament. They really do NCAA really rolls out the red carpet

For these. And these are real student athletes. We just saw the presentation on to the student athlete with the highest GPA. And he said it was a tie breaker. They had multiple 4.0 GPA athletes in this field. They had to go down to credits earned to find the top one. That’s what

We’re talking about here. Our true student athletes, these guys pay their way to get down here and then they then they come here to wrestle. It’s what Division three is all about serving your community, being a good student and wrestling is a big part of all these kids lives

. And you love it. Whether schools represented by one wrestler or by all ten wrestlers, there’s a lot of passionate fans following each and every one of these young men this weekend. That’s right. And like we said in the opener, we’ve got multiple schools represented here. We have 13

Schools represented. We’ve got a few that have more than one. The home team lacrosse, bringing four wrestlers into the finals. That’s a big deal. And we’re going to see after our national anthem what that means. But four wrestlers from the hometown La Crosse, this crowd is going to

Be insane when they get going. They’ve got wrestlers at 149, 157 where they’re bringing the returning champ to the party, they’ve got 165, and then they’re going to cap off the night here tonight at 285 with the final lacrosse wrestler coming to the mat. That’s a big deal. The most in this field

From the hometown team. Four in the finals. And Augsburg and La Crosse will be the 285 final. And we’ll talk about the team standings here in the not too distant future. And wouldn’t it be fun if the team title came down to heavyweight here on Saturday night? How many duals

Have we seen where the heavyweights roll out there to decide the duel? Now we may have heavyweights roll out here to decide who the national champion team is here today. It doesn’t get much more exciting than that. He’s Dennis Lamar University, I’m Darren Swenson. We’re ready for Division three Championship Wrestling here on

Saturday night in La Crosse. Let’s go to the public at rest with Brian Hazard and Jason Bryant. Ladies and gentlemen, at this time, please rise if you are able, remove your caps as we honor America and the men and women who defend her and support our freedom at home and abroad,

Please help us welcome Paul Leithold for the playing of our national Anthem. We. Dee dee Dee Dee . Dee dee Dee Dee. In. Ladies and gentlemen. Once again, a big round of applause for Paul. If that doesn’t get you. Wow. If that doesn’t get you fired up, I don’t know what

Does. Our nation’s number one song, an electric guitar version . Somewhere Jimi Hendrix is smiling. Dennis. That’s a good time. Nothing like breaking out the national anthem on the electric guitar to make it happen. So, Darren, give us a rundown of what the team scores look like before we get started

Here. Right now, Augsburg are defending national champion 85.5 points, Wartburg in second with 82.5. Wisconsin lacrosse in third with 78.5, and Johnson and Wales right now in fourth with 71. Fifth place right now is 65 points. And a great weekend for Tim Fedor and the Wisconsin Eau Claire Blugolds. But four teams

Still in trophy contention, three teams still in title contention. A lot on the line here on Saturday night. Normally a lot of things are decided by this time. There’s a lot up in the air tonight, Dennis. That’s right. Last year at this time, we didn’t have any of this drama

. Augsburg had pretty much locked it up. They were going to see how many points that they could score in the battle last year at this time was really who’s going to be finishing in the silver position here? We’ve got four teams that could possibly win this one. That’s an

Incredible thing to be going into the finals with that and open the crowd and let’s go to the public address as we will introduce the wrestlers with Brian and Jason. Open it up. To you about this. Dean College Colby. Sul Ross State. We Coker Delaware State wrestling for the championship at 125 pounds.

Pounds wearing the red from North Central Christian. You smile guys. We want to show. And his opponent wearing the green from Johnson and Wales. Josiah Brian and Josiah Frye. The defending national champion. He’s only lost once in the last two years. That was to Luke Stanek of Lehigh at the

Princeton open this year. Christian Guzman out of Miami, Florida, for North Central, third last year at nationals. The open mat freshman of the year last year. The outstanding wrestler at the lower Midwest regional. Here we go at 125 Dennis that’s right Darren. So Christian Guzman, one of two

Sophomores that you see in this field, pretty impressive. He came out of Columbus High School . He’s a three time state placer, a one time state champion. His opponent as you said, returning national champion Josiah Frye Johnson and Wales Coventry High School, three time state placer, one time state champion. Returning

King at this weight at 125. And what we’ve seen him do here, Josiah Frye has been nothing short of pretty amazing. He’s got a couple of I think he’s got three right. Three tech falls getting into the final here leading into this match. This kid scores it bunches. And he

Hasn’t made the second period yet in any of those tech falls. So Johnson and Wales is Josiah Frye and Christian Guzman of North Central underway here at 125 pounds Saturday night in Des Moines. And the first three on the board for Frye. The three point takedown, like we said,

Frye scores in bunches and he leads us off right there making sure that we that the fans know we know what we’re talking about. And he already puts three on the board. Again something new this year for fans. Maybe if they’re joining wrestling for the first time watching the

Finals here, which one? We’d like to say welcome to the sport. We’re glad to have you. But a takedown this year are three points. So if the last time you watch was last year’s finals, you’re going, what the heck is going on with this three point takedown? That’s new this

Year. It’s been two in the past. It’s three this year. So you’re going to see a little bit of change there with takedowns being worth an extra point this year. Darren and Guzman it for inactivity A31 lead for Frye here at 125 pounds. Time remaining in the score in the

Lower left hand corner of your screen here today. The front head once again for Josiah Frye. He’s going to head lever and reach. Look at that. He reaches all the way across to the ankle, pulls him down. Little go behind and he scores there. And you can

See Frye is not looking to ride at this point. He’s letting him up immediately and driving him and there he drives him right off the mat and he’s going to get this early stall call. Second one on Guzman. The crowd doesn’t like that one all that much. But you know what? He

Can’t back up, that’s for sure. When you’re wrestling this guy because he’s going to pressure you obviously. Frye very accomplished at the sport of wrestling. He was also a member of the judo world team. I mean, why not, right? I mean, if you’re if you’re going to be a

If you’re going to be a two time All American, a two time NCAA finalist, let’s go ahead and just run out as a world team member in judo and do something there, too. All right? I mean, it’s not a it’s not enough that he’s got all the talent in the

World on the Razorlight here. He’s going to show it in judo too. And there’s Guzman, he’s, he decided to put an end to that scoring sequence by Frye and puts three on the board himself. One minute left here in the first period a 7 to 5 lead for

Frye as Guzman the sophomore out of Miami, Florida, will let Frye up to make it eight five. And that’s one thing that probably didn’t get discussed a lot with the three point takedown. Yes, you can get out to big leads, but you can get back into matches pretty quickly too.

That’s right. Well, you’re not going to see somebody run away as long as the other wrestlers putting on the pressure and able to put up the points as well. So we haven’t seen this from Frye. This is actually the most amount of points scored against him so far this weekend in five other

Shot from Guzman. Frye trying to counter with the front head. But Guzman got out of that grip with 22 seconds left in the period. He’s trying to push the pace in the corner, but Frye with another takedown and it’s now 11 to 5. What you saw there was Guzman knowing that he’s already

Been hit for stalling. So if he gets hit again he gives up another point and gets an awful lot closer to that. Two. So he had to circle back into Frye, giving Frye the opportunity for that takedown fairly easily on the edge and Frye will go to a

Second period. But he put 11 on the board in that first period 11 to 5. The score in these choice is Guzman’s and he is going to go down to start period number two. You might wonder how a kid from Miami, Florida gets into a wrestling talk to Christian after his semifinal

Win. He was just watching TV in sixth grade, watched the NCAA tournament and was watching Kyle Snyder. He fell in love with the sport. You know what? I bet he’s not the only kid in the country who’s watched Kyle Snyder and fell in love with this sport,

But good for him, you know, to get out in sixth grade and end up here at this level. That’s impressive. Also, bravo to his parents, who are putting the NCAA championships on TV and getting their kid involved in this sport. No doubt about it. He said he went to NC U because

The coaches in high school just wouldn’t stop blowing up his phone. And here he is in the national finals. Of course, Johnson and Wales still in title contention here. They have won two. This is one of two finalists they have here tonight for North Central, currently an eight. As the clock ticks down

In the second here. Frye again he’s doing a little bit of ride here. And he built up. He built up that riding time. You could see what he did I mean he literally hit a minute in one second of riding time. And then let up Guzman. And we get a

Whistle and a stoppage there and they’re going to restart the center. But what he did was build himself up a minute of riding time there so that he’s got the riding time point in hand, and then immediately let Guzman up and goes back to work on his feet. But Guzman’s a

Gamer here. He’s in on another shot. He’s got his hands locked on the right leg of Josiah Frye, and he’s going to try to score here. But Frye is so good, overpowering that, circling around and getting three more on his own 14 to 6. And he is coaching staff telling him to

Let go. Lonnie Morris, the head coach at Johnson and Wales, makes it a 14 to 7 match up. 25 seconds left here in the second period as Frye has been a scoring machine all weekend and he continues it here tonight. But credit Guzman he’s not backing down. He’s not. He’s

Stayed in this one. He’s kept some pressure up. He scored when he’s been able to and he’s kept himself in this match. Again. The three point takedown makes this a whole different game. He scores this one here. As he’s working on this. He’s got the leg wrapped up. He’s they’re

Going to be a little careful with that knee. As you can see. But he’s got the I’m sorry Guzman actually reversed that one and ends up getting the three. But we’ve got a challenge brick thrown challenge in the north central does have one challenge remaining. And this is their lone finalist, so you

Might as well take advantage of it in this situation. That’s right. You can’t trade it in later for a pizza. So you might as well use it right for your returning champ Josiah Frye. So they’re going to go to the video review which is a third party at these championships. So you can

See the official number 39. As he was leaning over and picked up the phone and called home. And we’re going to get the replay here. So one thing to see if we can see it. Procedure here. And this the video you’re seeing is not the video that will be shown to the official.

They will look at the monitor. So as we look at it here and Guzman takes a little shot, he gets his arms wrapped around Frye’s right leg pretty easily, dumps him over to his back. But Frye does a good job of the body wrap and call behind the head

Table, where the trying to jury of officials turn this into his advantage. And that’s where you saw the three called right there party review. When there is a coach’s challenge. But it looks to me like. It looks to me like Frye didn’t get quite around behind him. And Guzman still had

That leg wrapped up. So with that leg wrapped up by Guzman, I don’t you don’t see that called a takedown all that often. Unless Frye were to get that leg out from underneath Guzman and be able to swing that free. This is typically called no takedown. You have the added little bit of

Info here where it was at the end of the period. So when did when did Frye have control? Was it before the time ran out or after in that if he did have control at all? And we saw that it was it was again, Owen got the best in the business here.

And these officials all weekend long have done a very good job. There’s really not been a lot of controversy at all when it comes to officiating in the matches to this point this weekend, as the officials still on the phone trying to determine, whether it was a takedown or not. And I

Think you brought up, probably the best point, Dennis, did that takedown occur in time? That might be the deeper question here. So. That’s right. So they’re going to be looking they can look at when a challenge brick is thrown. They can look at the whole sequence. So they

Can look at the control for the takedown. They can look at the time on the clock. They’re looking at all in this match. Looks like we’ve got the phone hung up there giving the brick back to North Central. So we can deduce by that that this is going to be overturned and North

Central is, challenge is going to be upheld because if you’re challenge is correct, you get to keep that challenge changed. No takedown and it will move from a 17 seven match up to a 14 to 7 match up. And Frye will go down to start period number three.

We’re in our first title bout of the night here in lacrosse at 125. So Frye is in new territory. And that’s a third period here this weekend. Yeah it’s been a few days since he’s seen a third period. And now he’s got one. And that’s an amazing little hip roll there

For Frye as he gets the reversal and scores two more. That was some pretty impressive body control on that. On that hip roll. And of course Frye’s got the nine point advantage making it a major right now. But I’m guessing he’s going to have the mindset to try to increase the

Lead right now, because his team could use some bonus points right now. That’s right. The advancement in this tournament has ended. So you get your placement points and you get bonus points and that’s it. You can’t score advancement points anymore. So really Frye if he’s going to add to his team score

He’s got to get a tech fall or a fall in order to continue to rack up those points for his team. And we heard it a lot when we were talking to the finalists. They know what they need to do for their teams. And something that we heard over and

Over again was, hey, I’m doing this for myself, but I’m also doing it for my team. Johnson and Wales, currently in the number four spot. There’s seven and a half points behind Wisconsin lacrosse. The dangerous thing with Frye lifting him up, Johnson has gotten to Frye, his legs a

Couple of times and gotten one takedown himself as well. And now they’re going to one more point. Get a stall against Guzman. And now it’s a 17 eight lead for Frye. That’s the second stall point awarded to Frye during this match. So the next one will be two. And you don’t

Want to get to two more. Definitely. That’s right. Because then the match is over. 30s left in this one though. But he’s going to get hit in another. Nope, nope. I thought they were University of the South motion for a stalling there, but he didn’t. He called for action on the edge. Well,

They warned Frye for stalling on that one and that was prior to the action going out of bounds. I believe. So what they’re most likely looking at there is the shove out of bounds. You don’t want to they don’t want wrestlers backing out of bounds, but they also don’t wrestlers

Just pushing out of bounds. You’ve got to wrestle on the edge is what they’re trying to encourage. And what you’re seeing here is Frye locking up that arm and just driving him out of bounds. Nine seconds left in this one. And Frye has got a nine point lead. It looks like

We’re going to have a two time national champion here at 125 Darren. Johnson and Wales. It’s been a great weekend for them. And they start Saturday night in style here in lacrosse as Josiah Frye defends his national title and Providence here at 125 pounds. Johnson and Wales Josiah Coventry Road, Island stand up.

You have a national champion. He does so by major decision. 17 to 8 over Christian Guzman. And again make sure we have those photos and Frye you can see the emotion in the corner with the coaches. But he kind of had the attitude of I took the mat to do

What I intended to do. And that’s go out and win. He was dominant all weekend. He’s got three tech falls in order to get him into this match, and he dominates major decision in the final. Josiah Frye is only a junior. Darren This gentleman could be back for a third

National title next year should he choose to do so. Let’s take a look at some replays from the match. And Frye had 35 straight wins now heading into next season. When you look at his two year record, he’s 79 and one as it’s been a great atmosphere all weekend long here in lacrosse.

There you see the representation from Baldwin Wallace and Frye had been the aggressor a lot of the match. But give credit to Guzman. He hung in there tough with a guy that had three technical falls coming in to this championship match. That’s right. Christian Guzman didn’t back up only a sophomore again.

We talked about out of Miami, Florida, and Zach Cook’s got a good one on his hands there at North Central. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Christian Guzman back here again next championship. Guzman, third last year, climbed him out in one step this year and who knows. We could see that rematch in

Providence, Rhode Island next year as well. And that would be, wearing the red Frye going for his third title, potentially in his home state, his home state, Drew Randolph. And his opponent wearing the green representing Baldwin. And. Rollins births. Jane and Hiram towns. When it comes to the prognostication game, Dennis not

A lot of people expected Chase Randall to be here on Saturday night, but here he is. That’s right. Chase Randall from the Coast Guard. He’s a junior out of Spokane, Washington. Meade High School, three time state placer at Mead High School. He’s he had to run through some he

Had to run through some competition to get here. Let’s face it, Chase Randall had to go through two time defending national champion Robbie Friesen from North Central in the semis to get here. He won it in sudden victory. Friesen at that point was on a 90 match win streak and

Was the prohibitive favorite to be in this Championship match, but Randall said not so fast. He had some other plans and Jaden Hinton from Glassboro, new Jersey, fifth place a year ago, a qualifier two years ago. And we’ve got craziness to start out . No control on the mat awarded

Yet. They’re going to go out of bounds and we’re back to a neutral restart. Wow. Nice little scramble there. Randall ended up behind Hinton, but Hinton kept his hands off the mat and we’re going to get a brick right away on this one as as the coaches from the Coast

Guard feel like that should have been points. And this is Coast Guard’s only finalist to the night. And they have two challenges remaining. So they can throw two bricks in this match if necessary. That’s right. And again in in in the tournament as a whole, the teams are allocated so many challenges

Based on the number of qualifiers they have in the tournament. And they’re allowed to use them at any match during the tournament as they go through. But once they use it, if they lose the challenge, the brick is gone and it gets wiped off the board for him. If they

Win the challenge, they get the brick back and they can continue to use it until they lose it. So they save them up for these finals. Obviously, when they know they’re going to have finals, so they have a chance to use it when it counts, and the Coast Guard thinks they saw

Something there. So the official will go to the phone. We’ll call back to the Batcave and get a video review from an impartial judge and find out where we’re going from here. Reaching out and touching someone to find a judgment here. On Saturday night at one 2228 left here in the

Period and we’ll see the ruling from the official. And no takedown. So losing that challenge Nate our top is Coast guard. But they have one challenge remaining. And there’s the replay of that sequence. No control on the mat. Awarded to there. So all those lost a good job by the officials in

Confirming at that call. In fact that call that was reversed in our 125 pound championship match. Dennis, that’s only the fifth reversal we’ve had all weekend here at the tournament. So again, you’ve got you have an awful lot of calls made during the course of the weekend. I

Have no Hope no, no idea how many, but I can tell you it’s a lot. And of that, only five of them reversed. That tells you the magnitude of the not just the wrestlers that we have here, but the officials and how good they are here at these tournaments. Obviously, the NCAA

Wants the best of the best here, representing them. Big fireworks again on this one. This feels like this is going to be one of those I don’t know. Yeah I’m going to throw you a type of matches because these two are firing bullets. It’s zero zero. But if you missed anything

You’ve missed a lot to this point. And finally a takedown from Chase Randall Randolph. So Randall starts off the scoring and puts three on the board for the Coast Guard. And he’s going to try to ride a little bit here as Hiten’s going to have to get

Away. Hinton as you said out of Glassboro High School in New Jersey, new Jersey, one of the few states in the country that has a one class system when it comes to high school. So Hinton never was a medalist at new Jersey in the, high school state tournament. He qualified three

Times, didn’t come away with any sort of medal out of any of those three. And here he is in the finals at 133 on the big stage in La Crosse, Wisconsin. And an interesting story with Hinton. Of course, a lot of these seniors, they were looking to make a college choice during

Covid. Four years ago. He committed to Baldwin Wallace without ever visiting there. His visits were him FaceTiming the coaching staff and the coaching staff, turning their phone around and walking through campus and giving a virtual tool tour. That’s the things that these kids went through in those times, you know, we’re still

Clearing out. We still have wrestlers that are wrestling on Covid years, which is which is you’ll see that a lot here. You’ll also see it next, next weekend at the D1 Championships, where you’ve got guys that have been around for six, seven years. Even with the redshirt situation in the in the D1

Rooms. And so you don’t see that here in the D3, obviously. But you do see guys with stories like this where they’re FaceTiming a coach who’s walking them around campus and showing them dorms and lunchrooms and all that, making a college decision based on that man you

Got, you know, and then also to be an athlete and knowing that you’re going to be going coming here to wrestle is not the easiest thing to do for these guys. But you know what? They made it through it. They’re here now. We’re past a lot of that.

And we’re able to see how they can perform on the big stage. As the first period ticks down three one to score lead for Randolph, the five seed, by the way, wrestling the unseeded Hinton in the championship here to defer. And Hinton throw says he once he got on campus he knew

It was the right place for him. And Randall. It was pretty simple for him. He wanted to wrestle in college and always had the desire to serve his country, and Coast Guard provided the best of both worlds for him. Hinton, out of Washington, a state that’s quickly becoming a wrestling

State up there in the Great Northwest, you see a lot of guys starting to make their way to the D1 two and three level out of the state of Washington. Pretty impressive. Three one. The advantage for Randall 25 all Americans at 125 who are needed at the awards. The Coast Guard

Academy brought six qualifiers into this tournament this weekend, so a pretty good contingent from the Coast Guard, the bears, as they are known. On the attack once again, as Randall, but getting the hips out and the leg out is hit, and Randall gets back to the leg on

The edge of the mat. With one minute left here in the period and a big throw, more wildness 5050. Who’s got who? Big role that no points awarded. That’s the third crazy scramble we’ve had. Dennis was not afraid to lock up and go. Body lock throws with Randall. And there he did

It on the edge. He just couldn’t quite finish it. They went to that 5050 position and neither one of them got the advantage real close to a big throw from Hinton. If he can jump out to that big lead. We saw it in his semifinal match. He started off

Actually with a huge five point. So the throw worth three. He actually was initially awarded for near-fall, jumped out to the big seven zero lead on video review. They actually knocked two off of that and he ended up with five, but he started his semifinal match with a five

Point throw and now he’s trying to recreate that here in the finals. 3 to 1. The score with 13 seconds left here in the second period. This is one of those matches that if you’re just following along on the scoreboard, you’re wondering, yeah, it’s probably a boring match. It’s been anything but

Right. These two have not been afraid to just let it fly and we’ve seen that hitting signaling that he wants to take top here to go into the third. You don’t see that very often. Typically down by two you’re going to see him try to go down, get the one point for the

Escape. And then he needs a stall, a couple stall warnings to tie it up or a takedown to lead. But Hinton is going to take top. Now if Randall gets out with the new three point takedown, does that change the strategy? Because if he gets out and you take him down, it’s

Still an even match, right? So maybe that’s what hitting is. Thinking here is, you know, if I get a chance to knock the riding time down or I get a chance to turn him, but there he didn’t really have much of an attempt to turn there. He just sort of

Let Randall up. So not entirely sure what the strategy was there by Hinton, but I don’t think that that worked out in his favor as he just gave up a free point. But Hinton is a guy that’s obviously been careful on his feet. And here is Randall with the throw, getting a

Takedown and swipes fall. Big headlock there by Randall as he puts Hinton to his back and he’s got a lot of time to work here Darren he’s got a minute 15. It’s not easy to stay off your back for that long. If you’re Hinton you’re in a little bit of

Trouble right now. Oh and there it is. Randall gets a slap of the Razorlight and he the coast Guard, has a national champion at 133 pounds. That’s the first one in school history for the Coast Guard Academy coach Kevin Bratton, in his 10th year, gets his first national champion and

Now he serves his country and he’s a NCAA Division three national champion. And there’s the emotion in the corner, 125 pound All-American Chase Randall . He pulled the big time upset, defeating Robby Princeton of North Central, ending his 90 match winning streak in the semifinals. And he finishes the

Job here on Saturday night. Chase Randall that was an amazing match. A whole lot of attempt that throws. And finally we got a big throw at the end. So I’m excited for this replay package. Let’s see some of this firework. And there’s Billy’s three wild sequences like we saw

There. That was the one that was reviewed and no points were awarded. Randall and Hinton, neither of them were afraid to let it fly, and Hinton got close to the turn in the fall. There, Hinton getting out of one of the escapes right there. As you can

See, this was just a fun match to watch until Randall took care of business. There, on the edge of the mat, chase Randall, the junior from Spokane, Washington. He was a national qualifier last year. He has a 21 and two season this year, and he is a national champion. He says he loves

Fishing. He’s going to have a relaxing day on a boat very shortly trying to catch some trout, but he can do that with a gold medal around his neck. Bravo to that young man as we’re going to go to the podium for the 125 pound medals at this

Time, of course, the awards will be introduced by two of the best in the business Jason Bryant and Brian Hazard, our national champion to the awards area, our national champion and coach Tony Awards area. We’re just waiting on a couple of things. Logistically, after you win a national title, you have people

To talk to, you got families to hug, and one of the cool things that NCAAs do, they let the families match side for these matches because wrestling is such a family commitment. When you achieve something like this. On Saturday night at the Division three National Wrestling Tournament, it’s

Really a more of a family win probably than any other success in any other sport. That’s right Darren. Again, these are, as we said at the open. These are true student athletes. So they’re not here on scholarships. They’re not getting a ride to come here. These guys are paying their way

To get here. A lot of them on the busses and planes and caravans on the way down here are doing homework and getting themselves still. They’re studying for finals. As we know, a lot of these guys have classes that are wrapping up in this school year still. So these are

True student athletes. They’re they’re coming down here to wrestle. But they also have to worry about taking care of business. Back at home, because a lot of them are here on their own dollar, frankly, no doubt about it. Josiah Frye of Johnson and Wales was your champ at 125 pounds, 133 pounds Chase

Randall. And what’s better, Division three wrestling at champion and a kid serving his country, hats off to that young man. That’s right. Coming from the Coast Guard Academy all the way here to La Crosse, Wisconsin, the Coast Guard Academy, of course, in Connecticut, they had to come all the way across the country

Here into Cheddar Land in, and win a national title again. Kevin Bratton, the head coach from the Coast Guard Academy, somebody that you might be familiar with on a Wartburg. He was a, wrestler from the, great state of Iowa and, was a head coach at North Central for eight

Seasons. And now is in his 10th season at the Coast Guard Academy. So been around the block a little while and like we said, got his first national champion at the Coast Guard Academy here tonight. Looking at the team standings after the first couple of weight classes, nothing’s changed with Augsburg,

Wartburg and Wisconsin lacrosse. They haven’t had a wrestler yet. Augsburg 85.5. Wartburg 82.5. Wisconsin lacrosse 78.5. Johnson and Wales right now is up into fourth place with 76 points. And they have one more finalist here tonight. So they’re still in trophy contention. That’s right. And this year the top three

Teams get trophies as opposed to the top four in years past. And of course Augsburg Wartburg and Wisconsin lacrosse still in title contention here. Here’s Mr. Hess, Coach Johnson and Wales. Mr. Lonnie Morris. Let’s meet our All-Americans and 125 pounds. Finishing eighth from Roanoke College. Mac Cafarella. Finishing seventh from Vermont

State University. Castleton Gavin Bradley. Finishing sixth from Millikin Zach Blasius. Lee. Finishing fifth from Everett. Mason Barrett. Finishing fourth from Baldwin Wallace is Jacob Decatur. Finishing third from a Wabash James de. Your runner up from North Central, Christian Guzman. And your 2024 Division three National champion from Johnson and Wales. Josiah Frye.

So there it is, your 125 pound podium here in La Crosse, Wisconsin. On top of it, Josiah Frye, the dominant champion at 125 out of Johnson. All Americans turn around and face year record 79 and one again. And his one loss to Division one Louisiana Tech 24 of Lehigh

American at 125, was his second match of the year at the Princeton Open this year. The rest of the way, nothing but victories as we go to 141 here in the not too distant future. Awfully, awfully proud moment for those eight young men getting their trophies and getting to get their name

Introduced on Saturday night. Because everyone introduced tonight is an all American. And once you’re an All American, you’re always an All American. Darren. So these this is a big accomplishment for these guys to get on that podium. Of course there you see the team trophies that will be given away a little

Later on tonight. We got a lot of things going up as we’ve got a couple of, wrestlers waiting in the wings here at 141 pounds. He’s the Dennis Lamar University. My name is Darren Swenson. Glad you’re with us on NCAA.com on a Saturday night from lacrosse Wisconsin. Just a

Fun fact here. The last two times for the championship at 141 pounds Rhodes. Wearing the red from Ohio northern Jacob Reed. His opponent from Greensboro, Josh Wilson, the. Ashland and Dennis a little bit of history here with Josh Wilson of Greensboro. You always like to see things like this. That’s

Right. So Josh Wilson out of Greensboro was the first semifinalist in school history at the NCAA Championships, making him the first finalist in Greenville history here in lacrosse. So big night for Greensboro out of North Carolina. And Josh Wilson, the Greensboro, North Carolina native, goes to his hometown college and becomes the first

Finalist in school history. Big weekend for Mr. Josh Wilson. He was sixth place two years ago at the NWC National Meet. 2021 Jacob Reed of Ohio, northern out of Lancaster, Ohio. A junior, he was third. The last two seasons, making his first Charlotte Saturday night appearance. He’s a two time NWC scholar, All

American who said he went to Ohio Northern for their fine engineering program as well. So this kid’s a tough wrestler and I’m guessing he’s going to have a good paycheck someday, too. That’s right. He’s a junior and a Bridgeport North Carolina Jacob Reed, a three time All American here at the D-3

National Championships looking for his first title. He’s taken third the last two years, and now he’s hunting for a step up on the podium or two. He’s definitely taking one step up. Guaranteed at this point, but he’s hunting for two steps up that podium and a championship here tonight. That Wilson, sixth

Place finish at the NWC meet in 2021 when there was no Division three meet. That was the highest all American finish in school history at the time for Greensboro. But he surpasses that here as getting into action is Jacob Reed. Reed hasn’t been awarded anything yet. 145 left here in the period Wilson

Controlling Reed’s ankle, and they’re going to call a stalemate with 141 left in the period scoreless match. Reed the one seed in this one, Wilson was unseated. Reed on a nice little shot there. He gets to the ink. Yeah Reed gets to the shot there. Gets to the ankle. Goes

Crotch lift but gets tied up and can’t quite score on it. Another nice little sweep there by Jacob Reed. As he’s keeping the pressure on Wilson here Wilson also an NWC scholar all American has a 3.64 cumulative GPA. We’ve talked a lot about these guys. Scholar scholar athletes. You

See another one in Josh Wilson. His head coach Kevin Birmingham, had to tell me that because he said, Josh won’t tell you this, but I will. That’s what Division three athletics are all about. And he’s paving a new way for Greensboro wrestlers of the future. First time ever they

Have had a wrestler in the finals. No score yet. 120 in 2 or rather 220 in the period. Number two, you know, when something like that, you know, a finalist for Greensboro can be can be a catalyst for their program. You know, Wilson was the only qualifier that they had

In this tournament coming out of the Southeast Regional as a sophomore. Really a good time for him to start to score and he can start to build this program for coach Justin Hardy and help to build that Greensboro Pride, the Greensboro Pride, that is the mascot for the team. Let’s

Go. Jacob. No score here at the end of one. Darren. We’ve seen some action. We’ve seen a couple of nice little shots, but these two really feeling each other out here in this one to get us started. Neither one of them opening up all that much. Reed’s

Going to win the toss and he’s going to elect to go down. Two minutes on the board here for period number two. We’re at 141 pounds here on Saturday night. Very good crowd here on hand here at the Lacrosse Center in Lacrosse Wisconsin for the D-3 finals. Nice motion by Reed off

The bottom. And Wilson stays with him. Step for step. Now he’s looking for a tilt. He’s got that arm locked up. He’s got Reed’s arm locked up. You can see Reed’s left arm. Wilson’s got the two on one looking for the tilt and can’t get it now.

He goes to the. If I’m Shane Sparks I’m going to call it the coffee grinder. The rest of us are going to call it a head lever type of position because we’re not Shane Sparks. So we can’t get away with just naming it exactly. We Jacob Green takes

The lead. Jacob Reed out after 32 seconds on the bottom. It’s a one nothing lead for Reed and the seats of honor next to the trophy. Ohio Northern the polar bears. They brought three qualifiers out of the central region. Jacob Reed being their most successful here today in this 149 pound championship

Match. They’re a school that’s hosted the Division three nationals in the past. Their most recent champion was Kyle Quiet, 2013. He was a two time national champion in 12 and 13. So it’s been a while since Ohio Northern has had a national champion. And of course we said Greenboro. This is their first

Finalist. So obviously Wilson would be their first champion in school history. Should he take this one over? Reed and Wilson, an English communications and broadcasting major. He told me he wants to take my job someday and let’s hope he can. You know what more power to him. I invite

Him up. Like I said, let’s get him a microphone. We can add them to the broadcast and see what he brings to it. We’ll let him get his trophy first after the 149 weight classes. We’ll see if he’s busy after that point. One nothing. The lead for Reed. He got out from underneath

Here in the second period. Wilson getting to that front head hasn’t been able to improve from there. As good hip control by Jacob Reed Reed the number one seed out of Ohio Northern the junior Wilson on this front head. He’s just not able to turn the corner. Reed’s done a good

Job of tying up the elbow. You can see there. Great shot by our camera operator where Reed’s got Ahold of that right elbow of Wilson not allowing him to turn the corner. And that’s going to end the second period. We’re going to be one zero Wilson will

Go down to start the third and try to tie this one up. 141 pound championship bout here on Saturday night. So Wilson looking to get away to tie it up. Reed technically could end this match right here. If he gets the ride out. He’s got he’s

Got a work off the 25 seconds of riding time advantage that Wilson has, but he could build up over a minute being that he’s got a two minute period here to work. If he can ride out, that will be a heck of a long time to

Read to or to for Reed to ride an active wrestler like Wilson, but it’s possible both of these young men, underclassmen as well as Reed, able to get to, or rather Wilson able to get to his feet, gets the hand control and evens things at one 19 seconds

Of the bench. Time for Wilson. 140 remaining here in the third period. Neither man with an offensive point to this point. Wilson was a one time state champ, four time state placer out of Southeast Guilford High School, so a good high school career for Wilson. Finished 179 and 18. Now taking that to

Greensboro and doing a good job in the finals. And here is Reed getting to that peak through position Wilson trying to hang on to the ankles 105 left here in the period. Normally does Jim Gibbons always likes to say the high head wins in these situations. No points awarded

Yet. 55 seconds left here in the period. And they’re not going to award points for the most part. As long as Wilson has that ankle and that leg. Because right here is why you see that Wilson is able to use that to elevate and scramble to try to score on his

Own. Now, if Wilson can get his leg out, he’s going to get the three here. Reed has got to hang on for dear life and try to bring it back into a 5050 position. So he can get out of this. But Wilson’s looking to lock up a it looked like he was

Hunting for a cradle, but he’s not. Now he’s diving for the ankle himself and going to try to come out the backside and look at here Wilson. He’s going to get the three with 20s on the clock. And Josh Wilson takes a three point lead over the number one seed Jacob Reed. And

Greensboro is 10s away from their first ever NCAA champ in an unseated young man in Josh Wilson leads it 4 to 1 time remaining lower left hand corner of your screen and Wilson trying to ride out Reed. Reed trying to get the hand control does so, but it’s too little too late.

For the second time in three weight classes we have a new school national champion, Josh Wilson of Greensboro, at the top of the mountain here at 141. He’s a four time All American, and now he’s the first national champion. That Greensboro has recorded in their history. Josh Wilson, the 141 pound champion.

Darren, let’s take a look at how he got it done. Wilson and Reed pretty even match up here as Reed who has third place the last two seasons, got the initial score after getting out from underneath Wilson and Reed weren’t afraid to lock up with each other. There’s the third

Period escaped. That evened things up, and the late takedown down. The All Americans and Wilson got that got him a national championship. So Coast Guard at 33 a new champion and Greensboro at 41, a new national champion as let’s give away some awards at 133, Isaiah’s Torres. In sixth place from Wisconsin-Whitewater Dominic

McClendon. In fifth place from Delaware Valley, Jacob Blair. In fourth place from North Central Robby Friesen. In third place from Wartburg Joe Pence. Your runner up from Baldwin Wallace, Jayden Gibson. And your 2024 NCAA Division three national champion at 133 pounds from the United States Coast Guard Academy, Chase Rendon. We

Touched on representation. Dennis 13 schools here in the finals tonight. Two of the first three weight classes have new national champions for their school. That’s great for Division three wrestling. That’s right. And that’s what it’s all about in D3, right, Darren, is that we’re not going to have one

Team that’s just blowing out the field here. We’re going to see all sorts of different wrestlers coming out of schools that some of these people have never heard of, right. The Coast Guard Academy, you’ve got Greensboro. You know, a lot of these schools that are not typical national title contenders, but they’re

Bringing real solid wrestlers to this event. They’re having great weekends, and they’re walking away on top of the podium. That’s what you see here at at the D3 level. And of course, when we talk parody, it’s not the job of the top teams to go down. It’s the job of everybody

Else to go up. And we’re starting to see that more and more consistently in this division. Dennis. Absolutely And we’re getting ready for 149. We’ll throw it over to Jason. Championship at 149 pounds. Wearing the Randolph from Wisconsin Lacrosse Tyler gear Hawaii Hilo. And his opponent 2015 from the Baldwin Wallace was Michael

Howard. Charlotte Come on. The first of four finalists for Wisconsin lacrosse and the hometown crowd. Very excited. Dennis Darren, we’re sitting here in the middle of the lacrosse, wrestling center fan section. We’ve got a whole bunch of him in front of us. We’ve got a whole bunch of them behind us,

And they are on their feet. They’re loud and they’re ready to cheer on their wrestlers. This is a good time sitting here. I mean, we’re in a good spot for one of these lacrosse matches happen, that’s for sure. Tyler Gable facing a young man in Michael Petrella, who’s in

The finals for the third time in his career, runner up two years ago, defending national champion gable. Just a national qualifier last year. But here he is in the finals on Saturday night. That’s right. He’s made his way through to the finals to represent his hometown of lacrosse. I’m sorry.

His hometown school of La Crosse, Wisconsin. He’s actually from Mukwonago, Wisconsin is his actual hometown, Mukwonago High School. He was a one time state champ in Wisconsin. He won it in 2021. He won the D1 level, he’ll look on the other side of the mat from him. Petrella from Baldwin. Wallace. Great story

There. You had a chance to talk to him about his dad, Paul, give us a rundown of that. As we see Petrella already in on a leg here on the edge cable doing his best to try to scramble out of this. No points awarded here. One minute gone by here in the

First period. Petrella trying to defend his national title as points still in bounds. The officials doing a good job of letting him wrestle here. But gable doing a good job of getting out of trouble. 141 left here in the period, Michael Petrella won the national title last year. His dad, Paul

Petrella, was Baldwin Wallace first ever National Wrestling champion in 1978. He also won a national title in football that year as well. So his dad was a two sport athlete back in the day. And here’s a second generation national champion for Baldwin Wallace trying to make it a two time national

Championship, but he’s going to have his hands full with Tyler Gable based on that first sequence. Dennis That’s right. Gable doing a really nice job of defending the shot by Petrella. Didn’t let him get to his ankles . Gable A career record of 63 and 18. He says he likes

Scrambling. He has a fun, free style and like a lot of the guys from Wisconsin lacrosse, they talked about development of their stuff, having confidence in their stuff and not worrying about their opponents. And I had a chance briefly to talk before the finals with Coach Malarchuk for Wisconsin lacrosse. He said.

In 30 years, oh boy. Gable almost, able to pull Petrella back down to the mat. So we’ve had a lot of action despite the lack of scoring here in the first 2.5 minutes. But Coach Malecek talked about the continuity of this team and the togetherness of his team. He

Says it might be the best in his 30 years of coaching. You know, that’s impressive. Coming from, from Coach Belichick. You know he’s been around. He’s seen a lot. They brought seven qualifiers to this event out of the Upper Midwest region, which as we know is not an easy region

To get out of. And lacrosse did a good job of bringing in an awful lot to there. They have got, as we said, four in the finals here tonight, which is the most that any school has in the finals. And of course you got the hometown fans cheering for lacrosse. You got the

Augsburg and the Wartburg fans becoming a Baldwin Wallace fans in this situation, right. So exactly what you’re seeing in the what you’re seeing in the arena right here is a whole lot of hometown lacrosse guys, but you’re seeing the whole other side of the arena, which is really a lot of the Wartburg

Augsburg fans. They’re suddenly Baldwin Wallace. This is the school of choice for Augsburg Wartburg because what they need is the lacrosse to not win national, titles so that they can end up with a team title. Fuzing down to start. Period number two. Petrella trying to defend his national title from a

Year ago. Petrella racking up a quick 30s of riding time here in the second. So he’s going to choose to ride and make gable get off bottom. Petrella referred to the continuity of the Baldwin Wallace team as well , and he brought up an interesting point because anytime a wrestler has success,

He credits hard work. But he said, everybody works hard in this sport. You need to put in the right type of work to have goals and make it enjoyable. And he credits the room, in, Baldwin Wallace for allowing him to enjoy the work that’s putting in . Because if you enjoy it, it’s

Not really work. Right? You know , if you do something you love, you don’t work a day in your life, right? It’s the old saying, and Petrella is saying that he’s doing what he loves. And so he’s not. It doesn’t feel like work as gable gets hit with

A stall warning here as he’s got his head on the mat. Petrella with that arm Bard up, he’s got a chance that he could work for some nearfall here. And of course, in college. Oh, nice little chin drop and a fall. Wow, that happened fast as the slap of the Razorlight for

Petrella. And he’s pumped. He was the national champ a year ago and now he’s a two time national champ, a second generation Baldwin Wallace champ and Michael Petrella. The senior ends his career with a victory and a championship here at 149. So he’s a three time finalist.

As you said, he was the runner up in 2022. Now a two time national champion, this young man knows how to win big matches and in big fashion, as he puts gable on his back and ends up getting the fall. We’re going to see some action from that 149 pound championship match here.

Darren, where Petrella dominated and ends up getting the slap of the Razorlight and the fall. 141 pounds gable got himself out of trouble a couple of times in that first period, but Petrella, once he got that turn, gable was in a lot of trouble. And he was

A happy young man as we saw a shot of the Baldwin Wallace fans. It’s not a short trip from Ohio to Wisconsin, but Baldwin Wallace very well represented. Off to Ray. Yeah, they’ve got the yellow shirt, so it makes it easy to spot him in the crowd.

And there’s quite a few of them. There’s a nice contingent of fans here from Ohio and Baldwin Wallace to see themselves put a young man on the top of the podium at 149, and with that win, that’ll clinch a sixth place finish for Baldwin Wallace Knox. Quite a trophy finish, but

All in all, only five better teams than you in the nation. A great weekend for Baldwin Wallace. That’s right Darren. So we’re going to go to, Mr. Hazard with our 141 pound place winners , Justin Hardy. In a place from Wisconsin Whitewater, Ethan Pogorzelski. In seventh place from Saint John’s. Fisher. Alex

Sampson. In sixth place from Johnson and Wales. Viktor Halasz . In the fifth place from Wartburg. Kyler Romero. In fourth place from Messiah. Josiah Kier. In the third place from Roanoke College. Mark Samuel. Your runner up from Ohio Northern, Jacob Reed. And your 2024 Division three National champion from Greensboro. Josh

Wilson. The first ever champion from Greensboro. Once again smiling year to year as he gets his trophy, 41 pound here on a Saturday night as we get set for 157 to the fans around us about ready to make a lot more noise, right? So as we said, Wisconsin lacrosse has four finalists here

Tonight and they’re going to run out of defending national champion here at 157. And this crowd’s about to go bonkers. Mr. Hazzard and Mr. Bryant will introduce our competitors here briefly. All right. Get yourself down to the Late Show. Navy Lakeland. We’re going to take a break here, Darren. I think

We’ll throw it over to our crack producer, Alex Blower. He can go ahead and take us to a commercial break. Wrestling for the championship. I’m sorry. Nope. They’re not going to do a light show. I’m sorry. Alex. 7 pounds, wearing the red from UW lacrosse, no less. One girl goes

. His opponent in the green from Williams College here, Katie. Nolan Hurdle will try to defend his national champion chip and try to put Wisconsin lacrosse closer to setting some history. Wisconsin lacrosse in range to potentially end that 20 year, nine year reign that both Wartburg and Augsburg have had

On Division three wrestling. They need some big points here from hurdle to get the job done. That’s right. And you know, you you say that and we kind of need to fill in the fans a little bit that may not be very up to date on this. So what we’ve seen over

The last 29 years is dominance from two programs at the D3 level, Augsburg and Wartburg, Augsburg, Minnesota, Saint Paul, Minneapolis, Minnesota school and Wartburg of Iowa have dominated the D3 class at NCAA for the last 29 years. The two of them have won every championship 15 for Wartburg, 14 for Augsburg, Augsburg winning

The one the last year to bring them within one. This year, lacrosse is in sniffing distance of being able to be the first team to win a national title other than Augsburg and Wartburg for 30 years, American finished fifth. Peter Keene State of Williams is the first finalist for Williams since 2010. It’s

Been a long time relationship between Peter Keene State and his head coach, Scott Henniker. Henniker was Keene State freestyle and Greco coach since age eight, and here he is leading him 14 years later into a national title bout. It’s got to be an easy it’s got to be an

Easy recruiting call on that one, right? Hey, I’ve known you since you were eight years old. I know how you wrestle. Come on and wrestle for me. What a great choice by Keene State to go to Williams and put himself in the final here. Keene State out of Fairfield, Connecticut. Wrestled

For Greens Farm Academy. He was a two time state placer in Connecticut, and now he’s here in the final in lacrosse against a returning defending national champion, Nolan Hertel from lacrosse. Nolan out of Marshfield, Wisconsin, which is on the western side, west central. I’ll say Wisconsin. Not that far away from here. And

Nolan had an older brother that wrestled here in lacrosse. That was the main connection to Uhl, and he loves the city. Also a recreation management academic program that he’s enjoying as a graduate student right now. As two minutes have gone by here in the first period, neither man has gotten to any serious

Offense. Hertel and Keene State here at 157 on Championship night of the Division three National Wrestling tournament, wrestled for the championship. Poeltl, the three time All American. So he’s been here before. 118 and 13 career record coming into the tournament for Hertel. And he’s racked up some

Wins so far this weekend as well . The score zero zero with 20s left on the clock here at 157 Darren neither one of these guys really opening it up so far. A whole lot of positioning and battling heavy on the head as Hertel works that front head series. He’s got a right

Underhook, but with three seconds on the clock he’s most likely just going to hang in there and he does no score as we go to period number two. Of course, I asked Hertel after the semifinal today if he had a target on his back, and Coach Malecek encouraged him to always

Have something else to strive for. So you’re the Hunter instead of the hunted. And if you’re hungry to be that Hunter, you’re going to get better. If you feel like you’re the hunted, you’re going to feel the pressure. That’s right. You know, once, once you’ve reached the top of that podium and

You’re a national champion, you’ve really got to dig deep to find that hunger to come back. I mean, obviously these guys have that desire to win. But Hurdle’s got the added advantage here today of looking for team points. And so he’s not just looking for himself, but he’s

Looking to put his team on the top of the podium, which is just one more thing that he can add to his motivation in searching for his second national title and continuing to be the Hunter. Hurdle getting away in six seconds to start the second period to open up the scoring

One zero hurdle, of course, was the one seed coming into this Keene State unseat. And you know what? We’ve seen a lot of unseeded wrestlers in the finals here today. Darren and you and I had talked about this a couple of weeks ago. Seeding is necessary for the tournament,

But once you’re out there, it’s one guy against one guy. That’s right. You know, and in D3 here you see a lot of these guys coming out of regions where they’re spread out across the country. A lot of them don’t wrestle each other across the year. And so you’re seeding is a

Little bit more tossed out. I will say when you get in here, you know, hurdle coming out of the upper Midwest where he was the champion there, Cain actually took second in his region in the northeast. And now he finds himself in the final. So it really is a sometimes what

It is getting hot at the right time at the end of the season here and having a good weekend, give yourself an opportunity and you can do a lot of things. And Peter Keene State has definitely taken advantage of it. This weekend. We’re down to 10s left here in the second period hurdle

Got out from underneath to start the second period. He leads it one to nothing and that is going to be the score heading to the third. Robbie Keane’s choice number two 1 to 0 Cain the only wrestler here in this tournament from Williams and Scott Henniker, takes his right index

Finger and says you’re going down young man. But a good job by Keene State looking to the corner to his 14 year coach and having that trust in between them as Keene State trying to get to his feet. But gable breaks him back down to the mat. Hurdle will go. I’m sorry. Yep

That’s all right. Too many UL guys. I imagine gable and the hurdle have made it themselves better, and as you so often see back to back weight classes with guys in the finals, I imagine Gable and Hurdle have definitely made themselves better in the room. That’s right. Iron sharpens iron, and these two

Those back to back, like you said, very close in weight. So most likely practice partners as Cain gets the escape to tie it up 25 seconds. The advantage time for hurdle. So not enough to engage the advantage time point. So right now it’s actually really 1 to 1 108 left

Here in the third period after the stalemate. Neither man with an offensive point through the first six minutes of this one. The lacrosse fans, many of them on their feet cheering on their defending national champion. Four seconds left in the period. And here is a take down. The points awarded but no back

Points awarded to hurdle. But he does take the advantage. 4 to 1. Big take down by hurdle as he gets in, puts Cain on his back, locks up a cradle and forces Cain to go defensive and gets the three to put himself up for one. With not a lot of time left

On the clock here for Cain again. Three point takedown so Cain is only down. One takedown here but 20s on the clock. They’re going to get a reset and hurdle hit for inactivity on that carry out of bounds there. So 21 seconds remaining in the period coach Malecek tells him

Keep him down. Williams able to get to his feet trying to get the hand control with 18 seconds left here in the period, he’ll let him go to make it four two with 10s left in the period. Now a takedown for Cain can win it for him. We’re going to see a

Sprint in the last five seconds as Cain is looking to go in the lead and he’s not going to get it. And our hometown national champion for Nolan Hurdle. He goes back to back for the Eagles . Your winner from Wisconsin Wisconsin-La Crosse. So Nolan Hurdle the three time All

American now two time national champion for lacrosse. And what that does is give this crowd Hope kid a team title be coming to lacrosse. Like you said, this place would go crazy this town would be electric tonight. But Nolan Hurdle is the first of the bricks that need to fall for

Lacrosse. At 157, he gets them their first national title and gets a big hug from coach Malecek as he leaves the mat. And with that decision, victory Wisconsin lacrosse has tied Wartburg for second with 82.5 points and three points behind Augsburg, so Williams and Hurdle with the decision victory for

Hurdle. Hurdle able to get out in that second period. Williams able to get out as well. But there’s the near cradle, but it ends up being a takedown. Keene State was able to belly out of trouble. It ends up being just a decision, but Nolan Hurdle appreciative of the hometown

Crowd as he becomes from a two time national champion. And let’s give away some more trophies. In seventh place from the College of New Jersey, Michael Conklin. In sixth place from southern Maine, Colby Frost . In fifth place from Wisconsin Wisconsin-Eau Claire Zac Santo. In fourth place from Lawrence.

Eric Kincaid. In third place from Wartburg Charlie Towson. Deer. Runner up from Wisconsin. Lacrosse Tyler Gabel. And your 2024 NCAA Division three national champion at 149 pounds from Baldwin Wallace Michael Hunter, Strela. My hometown of and wrestlers. If you would turn and face your fans behind you . Wrestling with the championship

At 165 pounds. Coming. Wearing the red from Wisconsin. Wisconsin-La Crosse. Noah place down. Stetson. And his opponent? Wearing the treaty. Now from the College of New Jersey. Nicholas Hey, coach. Another weight class. Another UL wrestler here at 165 with Noah Leising, a senior out of Ashwaubenon, Wisconsin. Nicholas Sacco out of

The College of New Jersey, a junior from Martinsville, new Jersey. This is our third straight lacrosse wrestler. You know what this room is like at these weights? It’s got to be a meat grinder. But we’re seeing in high school life skiing out of lacrosse. He’s from Ashwaubenon High School, a two

Time placer and Wisconsin in the country at 165, and his opponent from Tcnj out of Martinsville, new Jersey. Nichols Sacco from Bridgewater. Bridgewater Raritan High School, Wisconsin Green Bay Sacco, fourth a year ago, a life skiing third a year ago at the National tournament is a rematch of our consolation final. So

These two wrestled last year in the consolation championship. And interesting note on Sacco, his high school coach is Mike Denver. He was a national champion for Tcnj in 2012 at the D3 tournament, which was ironically held right here at the Lacrosse Center. So his coach is a national champion in

The same town. Sacco, looking to show his coach. I can do it too. Of course. Skiing now with a chance to put Wisconsin lacrosse into second place and any sort of bonus points could put them into the lead here. Big match for lacrosse right here. Augsburg at 85.5 right now.

Wartburg with 82.5 and Wisconsin lacrosse with 82.5. Johnson and Wales has 76 right now. So a lot on the line here on Saturday night. So Tcnj of course stands for the College of New Jersey. The Lions is their mascot. They had four qualified out of the Mideast Regional here in this

Tournament. One finalist in Nick Sacco who you’re seeing here right now in this 165 pound match stalemate cold with 50s left here in the period Wisconsin lacrosse. And an interesting thing that life skiing can do. His talent is solving Rubik’s Cubes. He said his record time to solve a

Rubik’s Cube was 29 seconds and UW lacrosse. That’s incredible on so many levels, but buying a Rubik’s Cube and getting it out of the package would take me longer than 29 seconds, let alone actually solving it. Exactly. I’m sure I have some that have actually been sitting around my house for 29 years

That haven’t been solved. It takes something to be able to do that. Ice skiing avenged a loss in the semifinals to the same opponent he lost to in the semis last year, so here he is on Saturday night, the third of four finalists for Wisconsin Lacrosse Ligang to Lake Sacco,

Trying to scramble through both men escaped trouble scoreless. We go to the second nine a little nice little, shot attempt at the end of the period there by lyseng, but we get a nice scramble on the edge. No points awarded, but some action, which is, of course, a good way to end

A period like gang is going to go down here to start the second and the lacrosse crowd firing it up as they’ve done all night. One, five, seven to the awards area, please. Eagle fans, to our left. You go fans to our right, Eagle fans in the front, Eagle

Fans in the back of us from our broadcast location. I feel like I should get a lacrosse t shirt for sitting in this section. Exactly as an honorary fan. 140 left in the period. It’s been a great tournament for coach Malarchuk and the Uhl Lacrosse Eagles. That’s a good point

There. I mean, what a what a great thing to be at home in your in your home stadium, around your home fans and to put on a show and even be in medal contention, let alone be in gold medal contention here as a team, Malecek has done a really good

Job of building this squad. Obviously we’re seeing the meat of it here through the last three waits and we’ve got a heavyweight coming up to end us for the night, which will be the fourth lacrosse eagle in the finals, and I talked to Lycoming earlier today. And sometimes

This is hard to quantify. But earlier today in the semis momentum can be a real thing. Like Schanke said, he didn’t feel any pressure to win because Hertel and Gabel both won in the semifinals. He felt an obligation to win because you know what? They did it. I train

With them every day. They’ve made me better so I can go out and do it. And probably confidence is a better word than obligation, in my conversation with Lestang earlier today. And that’s that team mentality that we’ve been talking about, which is a theme that we’ve heard throughout this weekend where

These wrestlers are really looking for individual gold, but they’re also wanting to put their team on. And we’re seeing Sacco put on a ride here as he’s been able to rack up a minute, 45 so far of riding time on Lyskamm down on the ankle. He’s got to be careful. You see, the

Official counting. He’s got five seconds to let go of that ankle. Now he’s got a return and he does. And we’re going to see a ride out here by Sacco. Great ride from the Tcnj wrestler and the Wartburg and Augsburg fans appreciative of that ride as well. We’ve seen that all

Weekend long. Part of the cool thing sometimes is you’re rooting for a guy from a certain school in one match, because it helps out your squad. You might root against that guy the next match because it could help out your squad. I see a whole lot of maroon and orange t shirts

Across the arena from us here Cheering let’s go Sacco to offset the fire it up chance from Eagles fans on our side of the arena. No score as we go to the third Sacco with the right out in period number two Rice gang third a year ago he defeated Sacco for third place

Out in Roanoke, Virginia in the 2023 D3 finals. Now Lycoming will get his turn on top. Sacco will try to escape and get a point, and he does as he still has the advantage time as well. So at this point Sacco has the one zero lead, but he also has

The advantage time, which if he. This ends where it is right now, he will have a 2 to 1 lead win, 2 to 0 win. I’m sorry about that 113 remaining here in period number three as we’re looking for our first offensive points of the night. Big match here for

Wisconsin lacrosse. We’ve seen this a few times Darren. And every single time somebody’s fired off a shot at the end to score, which one of these guys is going to push the pace as we see a stall warning on Sacco? Another one ties this up momentarily as Sacco holds the

Advantage. Time for the riding time point. But there’s 40s which one of these one wrestlers is going to let it all hang out and score here? Sacco has got to be careful to not move back and get dinged for that second stalling listings got to push the pace. He’s got 30s to make

This happen. And again, Sacco has locked up the riding time that’s going trying to circle around Sacco trying to hang on to the leg as he’s able to get the hips back. 13 seconds remaining. Sacco on the edge. You could see he knows where he’s at. If they go out of

Bounds, we’re going to get a reset with eight seconds again. Sacco has got a stall call on him, but he’s also got riding time in hand so he can take that second stall call tie it up one one for a few seconds until he gets the riding time point. He

Was backing out immediately. Three seconds, two seconds, one second. And that’s going to be that as Sacco is going to get called for the stall. So that’ll make it one one. But Sacco with the riding time advantage will be a national champion or are they going to put one second

Back on the clock here. They are going to put one second back on the clock, back on the clock. So riding time not yet applied. They have put the riding time point up but now it’s back down to one one. It’s got to be a miracle finish here for Lyskamm,

But it doesn’t happen. And Nicolas Sacco from T.c.f John Jay becomes a national champion and avenges a loss to life. Skating in the third place match a year ago, Sacco fourth place a year ago. Two time All American. Now he’s a national champion and he’s taken this one back to new

Jersey for the College of New Jersey. Nicholas Sacco is your 157 pound, I’m sorry, 165 pound national champion. And because of that, the Wisconsin Wisconsin-La Crosse total stays at 82.5. Now for Augsburg and Wartburg still have two finalists remaining and Wisconsin lacrosse with only one finalist remaining. As we look

At the replay of that last match, Sacco Coe. There you see a tough scramble situation, but what really won him that match was that right out in the second period Dennis. That’s right. It was a big ride out. Gutsy ride out by Sacco in that second period where he rode the whole

Period and didn’t give up the point. So that allowed him one. He’s got the riding time advantage in hand. So he knew he had an extra point in hand, and it allowed him to stay away from Listing’s pressure here at the end, which is what you’re seeing

On this couple of very nice mat returns by Sacco in that second period, as well as the emotion shown for the College of New Jersey young man, as Sacco, you’re a national champion at 165 pounds, and we move on to 174 pounds All American. But before we do that, let’s give

Away some trophies at 157, presenting the awards at 157, head coach of the Wisconsin Lacrosse Dave Malecek and Utah Valley in eighth place from McDaniel and Xavier Howard. In seventh place from Cornell College. Gabriel Smith. In sixth place from Stevens. Ryan Smith. In fifth place from Augsburg. Jake Jarosinski. In fourth place

From Luther. Clayton McDonough. In third place from NYU Cooper Pontelandolfo. Your runner up from Williams College, Peter King. And your 2024 Division three national champion at 157 pounds from Wisconsin lacrosse Nolan Carroll. All Americans make a turn. And check out your fans behind you for a big cheer. These are your

157 pound All-Americans. All right, get those phones out, folks. Wrestling for the championship. At 174 pounds. Wearing the dress that was sick. This will be the UW Wisconsin-Eau Claire Jerry school here. There you see Jared Stricker of Wisconsin lacrosse. It’s been part of a great weekend for Tim Vader. Blue-gold

Squad. And we have our first finalist, the defending champion from Wartburg defending national champion, four time All American, three time Placewinner Zane Mulder. He avenged his only loss of the season against Seb Nevada of Lawrence in the semifinals today. Now, it’s an interesting dynamic fan wise. Here’s Wisconsin lacrosse having

To root for a rival in Wisconsin Eau Claire. That’s right. We’ve seen an awful lot of Augsburg and Wartburg fans rooting against lacrosse wrestlers. Now you see this lacrosse stand, this lacrosse fan base staring across at an Eau Claire wrestler and rooting for them to beat the Wartburg Résum. It’s not normal

That you see no Wartburg finalists until this point in the tournament. This is our first one Daemen Wisconsin and of course Wartburg right now tied with Wisconsin lacrosse for second at 82.5. Mulder trying to defend his national title. Jarrett Stricker, the runner up a year ago, a qualifier in 2002.

The junior out of Ashland, Wisconsin. Mulder, the senior out of Grimes, Iowa. Stricker, a three time place winner in Wisconsin, as you said, out of Ashland High School. Mulder from Dallas, Center-grimes High School, he’s a four time state placewinner Bryant Iowa Wartburg Mulder started his career at Iowa State. That was during

Covid. He said he had lost his passion and his love for the sport. But he got a call from Brady Keener, who was wrestling at Wartburg at that time, who is now the women’s wrestling coach at Wartburg, invited him up for a visit. He got to Wartburg. He

Fell in love with the campus. He fell in love with the history, the championship mindset of that program and obviously it’s paid dividends for him on the mat. That’s right. And this is actually a rematch of last year’s final. Darren, where Mulder won it 7 to 5. So this

Was a tight match the first time or the last time they wrestled in the in last year’s championship. But these two know each other. They’ve been here before on this stage at this time wrestling for a national championship. Mulder took it last time. Now Stricker looking to strike back and even up the

Series high school place winner last McMurry three time high school place winner Augsburg, UL and UW Wisconsin-Eau Claire fans all saying let’s go. Stricker as Stricker getting to a leg of Mulder. Mulder trying to counter by grabbing the hips. 105 left here in the period. Stricker in that peek through position,

Trying to swim through. Mulder grabbing through the crotch. He’ll have to bail and a two nothing lead or a three nothing lead, I should say. For Stricker . So Stricker strikes first, comes out, jumps out to A30 lead and he’s got a 50s to ride here in the first period. Mulder’s

Got to try to get away and get to his offense. Stricker with the big throw toss as Mulder to his back and sinks in a half. Stricker’s got a deep waist and a half, looks up for that outside arm. He’s going to take a leg. Tim Feighner in that corner for Wisconsin

Wisconsin-Eau Claire took over that program in 2018. 2019 has done amazing things. Wisconsin-Eau Claire right now in fifth place in the team standings. This is their only finalist, so that’s where they’ll finish as getting to his feet as Mulder and he gets out with seven seconds remaining and elapsed 46 seconds of advantage.

Time for Stricker and it’s going to be A31 lead for Stricker as we go to period number two. That point could be big right there Darren. You know Mulder being able to get away at the end of the first brings it to within two. And with the three point

Takedown that point could be big. So good job by Mulder not relaxing on bottom and just letting the time run out, but working to get himself out and score at the end and getting those points inside of 10s those stud points as, Minnesota state coach Jim Markowski always calls

Them, bottom line, you get those points at that time, the your opponent doesn’t have a chance to, counter at the situation. So those can be big. Just adding on to your point there. So Mulder, starting down here in the period and Stricker’s ride will put him over a minute of advantage time.

Now Mulder, though, trying to get the hand control and get to his feet, Stricker still with a leg in, though Mulder doing a good job of being able to quad pod up and get to his feet a couple of times in that sequence, he was able to just stand up, Stricker trying to

Just drag him back down, but Mulder does a good job of getting away and bringing us to within one. Stricker with the lead 3 to 2 here with a minute 20 on the clock. Stricker, a young man that starting at age 12, raced Midwest Modifieds on the dirt tracks of western

Wisconsin. And the same mentality that makes you a successful racer often makes you a successful on the mat as well. Dennis I believe that you know, and I know that watching a lot of dirt track racing for my daytime job at Flo Sports, you know, we have a lot of dirt

Track racing and I can see that mentality, that gritty go out and get it, push the pace, you know, winning type of mentality in dirt track able to be applied here in wrestling as well. Three two of the lead for Stricker. He has a minute and 12 of riding

Time here with 30s left in the period. Stricker will have the choice here in the third. Here is Stricker getting to the hips of Mulder and a takedown on the edge of the mat. He’ll extend his advantage to 6 to 2. Stricker was able to drag his

Toes on the edge of the mat there and collect that takedown as he gets three more on Mulder and opens it up to six two. He’s going to end this period on top and Leslie Drake unless Mulder is able to drag him out of bounds here, and he’ll move up

To about a minute 35 of riding time. As we go to period number three, it’ll be Stricker’s choice. He has a minute 35 of riding time and A62 advantage. He’s going to go down now. Mulder’s got a choice to make here. Does he try to erase the riding time point and then spend

The last minute, 30 to get a takedown, or does he just let him up? Looks like he’s going to work for that riding time point as he puts in a real tough ride here he goes. Crab ride drags him to the mat. Mulder defeated Stricker for the national title

Last year. Stricker trying to get his revenge here. We mentioned Tim Fader in the corner for UW Wisconsin-Eau Claire Eric Keller. Landon Williams in the corner for Wartburg. Wisconsin-Eau Claire was able to bring six qualifiers to this tournament out of the Upper Midwest regional. So a nice representation by the

Blugolds here. This weekend as you see Stricker get hit for a stall warning for having his head on the mat again. He’s going to take that. Frankly Stricker and the riding time advantage now erased for Zane Mulder. But Mulder still trailing 6 to 2 at this point.

So at this point Mulder has got to be thinking that he could turn him for four, which is possible that you can get one minute for nearfall, one minute left here in the period. A second stall and a point. Now for Mulder to make it six three.

Now a turn makes it a potential win for Mulder. He only needs a three point turn to tie it up. So there’s a there’s options here. You can score two, three, or four. Nearfall from the top position where Mulder is again risky because if you don’t get the turn or if Stricker gets

Away, which he’s up to his feet and threatening, Mulder, looking to return, grabs the head, goes back around against Stricker’s. Okay, here. He’s fine, giving Mulder because all he did was run off another 15 seconds there. Six three. The lead for Stricker, 15 seconds left here in the third period. Now Mulder

Goes. Stricker gets three from Stricker. And now Mulder looking for the head lock. But Stricker gets a takedown on the edge of the mat and a national champion for the Blugolds. Their best season ever in Division three wrestling will result in a championship for Jarret Stricker here at 174 six. Your national

Champion Jared Street. He’s a two time All American. He was a runner up last year. He avenges the loss to Mulder. And he is your national champion here at 174 pounds. And that puts Wartburg in a position where I don’t know if there’s a path now

Where they can end up on top of the podium. Frankly, Darren. So Wartburg still with 82.5 points. Wisconsin Wisconsin-La Crosse still with 82.5 points. Augsburg with 85.5 points. Really? That’s what Augsburg wanted to see. There’s an awful lot of Augsburg fans that took a deep breath right there in this team race.

They still need some wins from their two finalists, but that path just got a little bit wider for Augsburg. Let’s go ahead and take a look at the replay here and see how that match panned out. You also saw the emotion of the video of the family there that time. There’s the initial

Take down for Stricker in that match. Zane Mulder only two losses this year. He was able to avenge one Tuskegee Geneva of Loras earlier today in the semifinals. Mulder was the national champ. A year ago, Stricker was runner up, but Stricker gets his event revenge on a Saturday night. And it was

So interesting. UW lacrosse and UW Wisconsin-Eau Claire Wilkes rivals, but they were united in their rooting against Wartburg there. That’s right. And Stricker his two losses on the season both to D1 opponents. So he’s undefeated at the D3 level this year and finishes the season that way as a national

Champion. Let’s send it over to JB in seventh place. 465 plus placers Lauren. In sixth place from Coe will spoil. In fifth place from Augsburg. Cooper Willis. In fourth place from Wisconsin. Wisconsin-Eau Claire. Tristan Massey. In third place from Alvernia. Matt Blackburn. Your runner up from Wisconsin lacrosse Noah Fleiss. Game.

Gannon 2024 NCAA Division three National Champion at 165 pounds from the College of New Jersey, Nichols Sacco. And wrestlers. If he would make one full turn and face the fans behind you. Once again, with those hometown ready as we wrestle for the championship At 184 pounds. Wearing the red from Oxford.

Bentley Schreiner us. Big match coming up here at 184 pounds. Currently, your team leader is Augsburg. They lead by three points. Bentley University of the South. Beck. Osterman, the senior out of Loyall, Wisconsin, a three time All American in previous years, an All American. Again this year he will take on

One of the surprise wrestlers here in the final here tonight from Johnson and Wales. Ryan Devivo, a senior out of Berlin, Connecticut. Unseeded kid into the finals. And I tell you what just talking to this young kid. It wasn’t arrogance or condescension. You will not find a more confident kid than Devivo

Talking to him earlier today. And he has had a good run here today. I mean, he is a he. This is his first All American, right? I mean, he is his first first All-American. He’s had a great season, right? I mean, he comes in here unseen. And though

He was the, he comes out of the northeast Findlay where he was the third placer out of the northeast, and now he runs up against four time All American Bentley Schwanebeck Osterman, the number one seed in and looking through Osterman season, he has not been challenged at the D3 level yet this this

Season he is he has really run through this bracket and done a good job here as the number one seed of ending up in the final Devivo has got to figure out the puzzle that has been Bentley Schwanebeck Osterman from Augsburg this season. And this is the third time these two

Young men have met each other, both previous time at the National Duals, as Schwanebeck Osterman and Devivo into a little bit of a scramble. Devivo got out of the initial scramble, but Schwanebeck Osterman to that leg with 205 left in the period. In the initial three on the board for Schwanebeck, Osterman.

Nice job by Schwanebeck Osterman to continue on with that shot he was in. He they got a little scramble, but he kept his composure. Switched to a single sweep. The leg of Devivo and gets the three early here in this one. Schwanebeck Osterman with a win over Devivo at the

2023 National Duals 11 to 1 in this year. They also met at the National Duals, which was held in Cedar Falls, Iowa this year, and Schwanebeck Osterman had a 6 to 2 win. A win here for Augsburg would be absolutely huge. It would give them plenty of breathing room heading into

Heavyweight, which would be or will be an Augsburg Wisconsin Wisconsin-La Crosse matchup. This is big team implications. As we were talking during the break there, Daryn, this actually could be at this point the match of the tournament for Augsburg. As you said, they still have one finalist and it’s

A head to head matchup with the cross. Wartburg has got a finalist in the next match. At 197. And a friend of mine who’s better at math than I, one of the great wrestling reporters in our area, the Jim Nelson from the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier , says if Schwanebeck Osterman

Wins this match, Augsburg will win the national title. I will trust his math. It lines up with what we were talking about earlier, but I didn’t trust my own enough. Exactly as Devivo gets the escape and in on a shot, he’s got Osterman’s left leg wrapped up. Osterman going

To try to posture up and reach in and get a little bit of that deep waist and try to control DeVos body as he turns into that knee of Schwanebeck Osterman. Stalemate. Cold with 33 four seconds left in the period, Jason Wedgbury, the official on this match. 34 631. The

Advantage riding time not a factor yet here with 30s left during the period, a shot by Devivo once again trying to back Osterman, circling around Devivo kind of a little bit of funk to his style as he gets out of trouble for the second or third time already in this first

Period. Schwanebeck Osterman scores nine times out of ten on that shot right there by Devivo, but Devivo scrambled out of it. Not able to do it again. As Osterman gets in on the high C, turns it into a three point takedown, and at the end of one

We’re going to have a 6 to 1 Schwanebeck Osterman lead with a minute and eight of advantage. Time on his side at this time, if we can have our 174 pound Devivo is going to take top 100 here to start the second Schwanebeck Osterman. We mentioned that he’s a four time

All American, but this is his first time to the finals. He was motivated to get to the finals and he did. So he said by being stingy this year and creating that mentality of positivity, constructive feedback. And he credits his coaches and teammates for establishing that mentality in the Augsburg room

Of Augsburg. Obviously a storied program. We talked about them in Wartburg, controlling the last 29 years of D-3 championships. They also put ten qualifiers in from the Upper Midwest region, coach Tony Volek, and only his second year as the head coach of the Aggies. Osterman and Schwanebeck Osterman, with now

With a 7 to 1 lead. Of course, Augsburg and Wartburg met twice in duals this year. In the National Duals championship, Wartburg won that duel and for the first time in eight years, the regular season duel was won by Augsburg as they won the Twins Mill Boy Trophy, and that

Duel that was held on the final Friday night in the month of January on the Minneapolis campus, 7 to 1. The score Schwanebeck Osterman with the advantage. If he wins this Augsburg is your national champion. Devivo also wrestling for team points here, though, as Johnson and Wales still in hunt

For that third place. Although I think at this point they are not going to be able to claw back into this one. Even with the Devivo win as he is their last finalist. So doing some quick math, they would still finish fourth behind Wisconsin Wisconsin-La Crosse, Wartburg and Augsburg. Nice shot by

Schwanebeck Osterman. There as he just drives right through the Vivo’s defense and ends up with another three to make it 10 to 1, and brings that riding time up over a minute. So he does have the advantage point in his pocket right now, but it is only the second period. Devivo doing

A nice job of scrambling here as he’s going to hook the leg. He’s got Osterman’s right leg hooked, so if he can peek out from period number two at 10 to 1, lead for the right here. And he’s not going to be able to as time runs out in the second,

It’s going to be Schwanebeck Osterman’s choice to start the third. And he’s going to stay on their feet and go neutral. You said Devivo was highly confident of his abilities here coming into this match. Schwanebeck Osterman also looks very comfortable. Oh yeah, as he was walking out to the mat, he even

Took a stop over by his family, handed out some high fives, and then made his way up onto the mat here, 84 pound All-Americans to the seats of honor as Schwanebeck Osterman. What’s something we don’t know about you? And he said, I’m going to be big someday. He’s a media

Communications major, and, let’s hope he can take our job. That’s right. Maybe he can. Maybe he can join Mr. Wilson up here in the booth next year. Here we go. A shot in from Devivo once again. But Schwanebeck Osterman on the offense, and he’ll extend the advantage to 13 to 1 with

118 left here in the third period. 15 points is a tech fall and extra points for his team. Does Schwanebeck Osterman hunt for that or does he play it safe? As safe as he can be when he’s up 13 to 1 and about to win a national title, not only for

Himself, but for his squad? That’s right. And Schwanebeck Osterman is just going to let Devivo go 13 to 2. The score 53 seconds left here in the third period. Game to be played. We want bonus. The Augsburg crowd shouting, chanting we want bonus and they’re going to get on the

Board. And, and an injury situation here as Devivo holding that right knee as the injury. Time for Devivo clock is running. It’s 16 to 2. The advantage. So a 14 point advantage right now effectively Schwanebeck Osterman has to ride out for the next 37 seconds. He’ll get the riding time point

And then be awarded the technical fall after the whistle blows. So he is in position right now for the technical fall, adding another point to Augsburg’s total in the team race. But Devivo there looking at his right knee as that knee was extended a little bit in the

Wrong direction as we will take another look at it here. We have 37 seconds left here in the third period, and we hope for the best for, devivo. Because that was just a little bit awkward of an angle as Devivo got attacked right on that late right leg. It looked like the

Ankle and the knee were going in opposite directions, which happens in the sport of wrestling. But it’s not not a comfortable situation. Nice. Look at it there. The camera operator doing a good job of getting in on that. Unfortunate for Devivo that he was trying to

Jump up and out of the way right as Schwanebeck Osterman shot in. Great job by our production crew to get us the replays. There some good angles on that one as well as Schwanebeck. Osterman shoots in. And Devivo is going to counter. So Schwanebeck Osterman decided not to go for

The ride out and instead elected to go on his feet and he’s going to get the takedown and he’s going to end it in style as he flexes to his fans and Bentley Schwanebeck Osterman is your national champion at 184 pounds, and he gives hugs to the corner

And that locks it up for the Aggies. If our math is correct, and I believe it is, it will be the 15th national title for Schwanebeck for Augsburg and Schwanebeck Osterman, the young man that gets the job done his first time to the finals results in a gold medal. Impressive win

By Schwanebeck Osterman, their three time All-American, four time All-American. Now he moves up from fourth place last year, sixth the year before and sixth the year before that. To be your national champion here at 184 pounds and a seal the team title for the Aggies, their 15th, as you said, matching Wartburg 15

And continuing the streak to 30 straight years that either Augsburg or Wartburg have been team champions here at the D3 level. As you can tell. Just a dominating performance for Bentley Schwanebeck Osterman, your champion here at. 184 pounds and that will clinch the title for the Augsburg Aggies as

They will be taking that tallest trophy back north to the Twin Cities. After a little bit of celebrating here tonight, Schwanebeck Osterman capping off a great season this year as you said in eighth place from Stevens, Stefan Major, let’s go ahead and toss it over to the

Medal stand as we hear from Mr. Hazzard. And 174 pound medalist from Augsburg, Seth Getzinger. In sixth place from Millikin, DeShawn Gloster. In place from Oswego State state. Charlie Grigas. In fourth place from NYU. Jason Geier. In third place from Lawrence. Zeb Niland. Your runner up from Wartburg, Zane

Molter. And your 2024 NCAA Division three National Champion from Wisconsin Wisconsin-Eau Claire champion. Stricker. All right. All-Americans make a full turn and greet the fans behind you . And once again, one more time. Get those phones out as we are set to wrestle for the championship at 197 pounds. For a grand Hope

Concordia-Moorhead Gabriel City. Aaron Swenson and Dennis Lemaire back from downtown. Wisconsin-La Crosse Wisconsin. Two more matches to go as we go. At 197, a couple of young men that have dogs, Moe and Dean, defending national champion for Wartburg the junior out of Dallas, Texas. And Gabriel Zierden out of Concordia-Moorhead, their first

Final since 2011. And Dean, the defending national champion, as two time junior college All-American at Iowa Lakes, will duke it out for the 97 title. And now you look at the second place trophy right now, Wartburg and Wisconsin Wisconsin-La Crosse are tied with 82.5 points. If you want to take the

Second place trophy. If you’re the Knights, you need a victory here from Morgan Dean. That’s right. And Mo and Dean, a junior out of Dallas, Texas, finds himself in Iowa wrestling for Wartburg. He is your defending national champion, as you said. Also a two time, NJC, AA All-American. So this is his

Fourth technical All-American from Pennsylvania marks. His opponent so far in his career. And he’s got one more. He can come back next year. Gabriel Zierden from Concordia-Moorhead the senior out of Albany, Minnesota. He went to Albany High School. He was a three time state placer in Minnesota up in

Albany. This is the first finalist for the Cobra since 2011. Our top seed, La Salle indeed a junior. By the way. Gabriel’s dog named Atlas, the Blue Heeler rat terrier mix and Rowan Dean has a pug dog named Rocky, as in Dean on the edge of the mat. Gets on the board first

Here at 197 National TV a year. Indeed, the one seed coming into this, what we’ve seen so far in this tournament is him jumping out to fast leads as he tends to explode out of the gates. And he does again here as he hangs the first three on the board, three

And two over Zierden upper Midwest champion and Dean and his two year collegiate career at Wartburg. 50 wins and only one loss in 2021 championships. Do you remember who that loss was to Darren? I’d have to look it up right. Puts you in a spot there and here’s and Dean with a

Turn getting swiped with 155 left here in the period for back points awarded to and Dean, he’ll extend his advantage to seven to nothing. Again, coming out of the gate swinging is indeed. Jumping out to A70 lead with only a minute and a half off the clock here in the first.

In Dean out of James Bowie High School in Texas. He was a one time state placer, two time state qualifier from Texas. As I said earlier, Gabe Zierden, Gabriel Zierden was a three time state placer in Minnesota. The double A to the seats of honor won the Osborn, the head coach

For Concordia-Moorhead. Please make your way to the seats of honor. Zierden trailing seven to nothing with 108 left here in the first period. On Dean, I asked him what other what people need to know about him. You look at the guy on the mat and probably many wrestlers are this

Way. He looks like he’s a mean guy. He goes, I’m the nicest guy off the mat. I believe it. That’s trying to rule through with Zierden, but and Dean stays in the top position, 45 seconds left here in the first period. Zierden the only cobber from Concordia in this tournament as

He made his way out of the Upper Midwest region, 30s left in the period as Zierden trying to switch, but on Dean doing a good job of covering from behind. 22 seconds left here in the first period and Dean with a big ride here in the first. He got the

Takedown early and now he’s racked up two minutes of riding time here in the first period. That’s a lot of riding time. A dominating performance from the get go to this point. As you know well known wrestling and things can turn around and turn around pretty quickly. That’s right. There’s three periods

Obviously that these two are going to wrestle barring some sort of early stoppage. So Zierden has got a lot of time that he can work here as he defers on the first choice. And then Dean’s going to go down to start the second, leading seven to nothing with a takedown and a

Turn in that first period for Moe and Dean. So the first period being three minutes long, Zierden won’t have to ride the most a minute and 15 seconds where it’s indeed gets the false start. Caution so he won’t have to ride a minute and 15 seconds to erase the riding time. But

Frankly, I think he’s got to be with a down seven zero. He’s got to be worried a little bit more about getting some takedowns on the board. You asked the question. I did, and I’ll give you the answer. The only loss for Morgan Dean in his career at Wartburg to Ben Kuczynski of

Wisconsin lacrosse and a duel at the National Duals two years ago down in Louisville, Kentucky. There you go. And Dean able to get away within 14 seconds. He still has over two minutes of advantage time, and he’s up to a major decision end of things. And that would force Douglas at

Heavyweight for Wisconsin lacrosse to get a major decision. Whatever and Dean does here, Douglas would have to do the same to tie Wartburg for that second place trophy. Right? So this has got big team implications, as you said, whatever. And Dean does, we need lacrosse is going to need

There’s no we in there. I’m not wrestling for either team. But lacrosse is going to need to match or better that in order to place ahead of Wartburg in the team championship. That Augsburg at this point has locked up and Dean with some power. Wow, that was a that was just straight

Through the defense of Zierden and plowed in with that double knocking into the mat and getting his three to go up 11 zero. As in, Dean continues to push the pace here in the 197 championship match in lacrosse, as the Dallas Texas native is made his way up to Wisconsin and

He’s looking to put himself on top of the podium for the second time. Oh well, look at the states that we have had as champions tonight. Rhode Island, Washington, North Carolina, new Jersey, Wisconsin, new Jersey, another Wisconsin champion, also another Wisconsin champion. So three from Wisconsin, two from

New Jersey and Dean trying to become the fifth different state, represented as a champion here in Division three wrestling. And you think of Division three as a primarily East coast, a primarily Midwest end of things. It’s a sport at the Division three level in wrestling that really attracts guys nationwide. That’s right. I

Mean, some of those things you mentioned states literally from east, from the far East coast to the far West coast and all parts in between as well. And now we’re going to go south, if indeed can indeed finish this one off as he is up 11 zero, he’ll add Dallas Texas to our

List of winners. Of course, Gabriel Zierden and his family right now saying no. Let’s add Albany, Minnesota to that list. He will have his chance on top here in the third. As in, Dean goes down. It wasn’t a yeah, I was going to say the caution will be assessed to zeroed in

There. There was a second whistle there that I didn’t hear but. 11 to nothing. And Dean you see the advantage time. He’s been on top for over half this match to this point. And Dean tries the switch there off the whistle. Can’t quite get it. Zierden bellies him out and will

Go to work on top. He’s going to need to score a lot of points on top to tie this one back up again. Two, three and four near fall available at this NCAA level. And Dean gets dinged for stalling. He gets a warning. So next one will be a point 130

Left here in the third period. Rowan Dean trying to defend his national title, try to become a four time collegiate All-American. And Gabriel Zierden has him buried into the mat right now. And Dean, not able to work himself up. But Zierden is going to need a lot

Of turns in order to get back in this. He’s going to need to start scoring stalling. And there’s the second stall warning in the first points of the match for Gabriel Zierden, it’s 11 to 1 now with 55 seconds left in the period, the Khyber Corner encouraging Zierden to keep

Working because he does have in Dean extended, he’s looking for to grab that far wrist so he can try some sort of tilt. I’m sure now he’s got the right hand of in Dean wrapped up and he’s working up top, not in to the crowd. Another stall call

Against Dean and now it’s an 11 to 2 match 25 seconds left in the period. Number two. 20s 19 seconds left in the period of boisterous crowd here in Wisconsin. The crowd is vehemently cheering. Gabriel Zierden in this one. Or maybe cheering against Moe and Dean, and he’ll get to the two point

Stall, but that’s going to be that as Moe and Dean of Wartburg is going to be at the top of the mountain for the second year in a row, 12 to 4 major decision and a two time NCAA champion, Rowan Dean, with the victory over Gabriel Zierden with the

Riding time advantage, it ends up being a major decision. So Michael Douglas of Uwl will have the task of having to. Major Tyler Kim no easy task. Tyler Kim from Augsburg to end up in a second place tie. Now, if he does something better than that, it could potentially be a second

Place finish for Uhl early on in this match. And Dean was definitely the aggressor. The way the third period ended caused the reaction from the fans, but early on, Moe went out and took care of business. That’s right, Moe came out firing early and racked up a big

Lead in the first and second, and then hung on in the third as Zierden tried to work his way back. But Moe and Dean, two time national champion here at Wartburg, comes all the way up from Dallas Texas to Iowa and gets his second national championship in a dominating

Fashion at 197 pounds. Let’s toss it over to Jason Bryant and Brian Hazzard for our 184 pound medalist here in lacrosse . LeTourneau. Elon. Olivet. And now going to 184 pounds. Are all American wrestlers presenting awards at JP Williams on the NCAA, finishing in eighth place from Ursinus. Max Barton. And seventh

Place from Oneonta State. Jack Ryan. Finishing in sixth place from Adrian Dillon Wellman. In fifth place from Alfred State Sean Malone. In fourth place from Vermont State University. Canceled it. Sampson Wilkins. In third place from Wisconsin Eau Claire. Niall Schoenfelder. Your runner up from Johnson and Wales , Ryan Devivo. And your 2024

NCAA Division three national champion at 184 pounds from Oxford, Findlay Slavik Osterman . Pittsburgh. Please turn and face your fans. Behind you. You can’t drive 55. Cal Poly Humboldt that Montana Rice and baby 80. Every. Oh! Oh oh, look at it together. Does that make you a ten football number in college

Champions? For the final time, break out those bombs as we’re set to wrestle for the championship at 285 pounds. Wearing the Randolph representing Augsburg two Baylor two for. Get. Last but definitely not least. We go to 285 Tyler Kim of what is now the national champion in Augsburg. The junior

Out of Burnsville, Minnesota, and another home town wrestler from Wisconsin. Lacrosse. The junior out of Belmont Abbey, Wisconsin. This is Michael Douglas. Now, if Michael Douglas gets a major here, Wisconsin lacrosse and Wartburg will tie for second. Anything above that Wisconsin lacrosse will finish second. Anything below that, it

Will be Wartburg the runner up and Wisconsin lacrosse finishing third. So still some random ramifications here at heavyweight. That’s right. And it all comes down to this as is normal. These these heavyweight competitors are used to ending the night as they do in most tournaments and duels. And so

This is nothing new. Michael Douglas, like you said, the junior out of Belmont, Wisconsin Belmont Abbey High School, a two time state place winner in Wisconsin, Tyler Kim from Apple Valley High School, a storied high school in Minnesota wrestling for many, many years. He was a one time state placer

For Apple Valley. Now he’s been a four time All American for Augsburg, three time placer, a trip to the finals as the and Michael Douglas, a two time All American for the Eagles and coach Malecek and talking to Tyler earlier today, he just appreciated being part of the history of not only Augsburg

Heavyweights, but Apple Valley heavyweights in years past. Because that list is a long one. It’s a long one and a storied one. Obviously, you know, Tyler Kim followed a wrestler that many people may have heard of, Gable Stevenson, who wrestled for the University of Minnesota Gophers and also for the United

States of America, winning a gold medal in the last Olympics. Kim getting to a leg of Douglas, trying to pull him back inside the mat, and he’s able to take him down to the mat and get the first three on the board. These two have met a few times this

Year. Let’s give a breakdown of what the match has looked like. Kim won the regional final a couple of weeks back as Douglas gets to his feet to make it three one. Kim won the regional final 5 to 1 in the dual meet on January 20th. Douglas won 6 to 2

In the regional final last year. Kim won by a pin in a minute. Three National Duals last year, Kim won 5 to 2, and in the Mike Drew invite down at Cornell on January 15th of 2002, Kim won by fall, so Kim with four wins or rather five wins over Douglas

And Douglas with only one and two of those wins have been by fall. So Douglas, the final finalist of the night for Wisconsin lacrosse. It’s been an excellent tournament for them, but Augsburg just a bit better. That’s right. You know lacrosse came to wrestle this weekend. They put four into the finals.

They haven’t been able to close the gap on Augsburg. They’re tied up with Wartburg right now. Looking to go ahead. But they need a win here in order to do that 33 one. The score with Kim on tap. Douglas is a kid that was eighth a year ago at the

National meet and talking to him earlier today, he wanted to wrestle in college but didn’t have a lot of options. He actually reached out to Dave Malecek of Wisconsin Lacrosse and look at him here in the national finals. Great choice by Dave. Obviously to bring him on board and to have him wrestle

For the Eagles. That’s the end of period number one. Kim finished third last year and fourth the year before in this tournament. So he’s looking again what we’ve seen a few times here tonight working their way up that podium. All Americans make your way to the seats Douglas told me earlier

Today he has a nearly identical twin. And I asked him, what’s a nearly identical twin? Well my brother, who is my identical twin, chose not to wrestle. So I have cauliflower ear and he doesn’t. So we’re not identical twins. It’s really just a gift to their parents so that they

Can tell the difference between the two, right? No, I in team, he’s helping everyone else out. So Kim able to get out with relative ease. And it’s A41 lead for Tyler Kim trying to put the exclamation point on a championship weekend for Augsburg. Either way, this one ends up somebody fan base is

Going to erupt. The Eagles of course going to be cheering another champion. If the if Douglas can pull off the win here against Kim. And of course the Augsburg fan is going to be cheering not just the national champion but also the culmination of another team title for the Aggies will be

Their 15th title every year since 1995. It’s been either Wartburg or Augsburg, and after this year it’ll be 1515 apiece. The last nine Wartburg or Augsburg team to win a title. Ithaca. Back in 1994, Ithaca had an All American. This year. It was the 40th straight year they’ve had an All American.

Right. What a what a great run for that program. Right? 40 years of all Americans. That’s impressive right there in and of itself. 45 seconds left here in period number two, the four one lead for Kim Douglas digging that underhook. It’s look he’s most likely looking for some

Sort of throw here. As you can see he’s trying to dig that left underhook and then step into Kim looking for the big move to tie it up. Kim doing a good job of fighting that off and just keeping a neutral position as we’re down to 20s left here in

The second. Tyler Kim with the 4 to 1 lead over Michael Douglas. Kim trying to pick up his 134th career win at Augsburg. In the second period comes to a close, with Kim leading 4 to 1. Douglas going to go down riding time nowhere near a factor yet. So an

Escape by Douglas again pulls him to within two and a takedown being worth three this year means a takedown would put him in the lead. So that’s what’s going through Douglas head. What Kim is, of course thinking is I can ride out myself to a national championship, so why

Not just end it on top that way? 4 to 1. The advantage for Kim Douglas trying to establish a base. Kim trying to put a leg in . Trying to lock something up. Up top 135 left here in period number three. And he’s 30s away from adding a point. But Douglas

Able to get away to make it four two and riding time not a factor. And he’s got a lot of time to work with here Darren. He’s got a minute 20 on the clock. He needs a takedown in order to take the lead. And he’s got a lot of time to work for

It. Let’s see what it is in every wrestling room in the country. They have a you’ve got one minute on the clock. It’s the third period. What’s your best takedown drill. That’s where Michael Douglas finds himself right now for the Lacrosse Eagles. What’s your best takedown. What’s your go to

Where. You know you can score. It’s time to whip that out of your back pocket and use it right here. 50s left here in the third period Douglas trying to get to a leg of Kim. He’s able to do so. Kim trying to fight hands. He’s able to do so. Nice

Job by Kim of circling away from that grip of Michael Douglas. Able to break it as he gets hit for a stall. Warning there. That’s the first one, so no point awarded. And frankly, Kim will give up another one and still be ahead four three with 30s left. But he does need to

Keep the pressure on here. Douglas trying to lock up up top 20s remaining. He reaches for a leg. He can’t get there. Douglas now looking for the big move with 15 seconds remaining here, Kim said his game plan was to trust his stuff and work it, and

He has so far to a 4 to 2 lead with five seconds on the clock. Douglas looking for the big move . He won’t be able to do it, and Kim puts an exclamation point on the weekend for Augsburg with a heavyweight title. Here at 285, he was third last year, he was

Fourth in 2022. Now he’s on the top of the podium for your national championship champion at 285 for the Augsburg Ortgies is Tyler Kim. 4 to 2 of the win for Tyler Kim on Michael Douglas of Wisconsin Lynn Wisconsin-La Crosse and Tyler Kim is your national champion here at 285

Pounds. As we wrap up what has been a fantastic weekend of wrestling here in lacrosse. Dennis, it was great from the start. We watched some amazing matches yesterday throughout the whole day. This morning semifinal round was electric. This building has been great. The fan base showed up to watch

UW lacrosse finish in a third place, but in a hunt for a title which you could feel in this crowd, all day long, the anticipation of that title hunt Augsburg ends up pulling it off. In the end. Wartburg takes second. But what a great job we saw. Like you said, a lot of

Diverse diversity in the field in terms of schools, in terms of states represented all the way across the board, from from one end of the country to the other. We saw it all here. Some great wrestling in the finals. Darren, it’s been my pleasure working side by side with you again here

In lacrosse. Take us out of here. No doubt about it. 13 different schools represented tonight in the finals. 25 represented in the semifinals. D3 wrestling is a very, very healthy shape. Augsburg wins the title again, but the gap between Augsburg and Wartburg and everybody else is definitely closing. And it’s making for a

  1. They should have D2 champs face D3 champs and winner faces D1 champ for an overall national champion. I guarantee there are people at the lower level who have D1 talent but couldn’t go for whatever reasons (financial, academics, etc)

  2. Great job with this tournament! Great crowd and really good wrestling. Once upon a time D2 and D3 champions qualified to the big tournament. Carlton Haselrig from Pitt-Johnstown was a 4 time D2 champ and 2 time D1 champion!
