Something I’ve been noticing a lot with with gouie and we know with his um his injury uh prone his history that it’s it’s a bit of a concern you kind of wonder why is it that a player like that just keeps getting injured right and so

I I’ve went back I’ve tried to watch you know I’ve been really kind of focusing in on this for the last like maybe 10 15 games and what I’m really noticing is that more like it’s going to be natural that a defenseman sometimes is going to put themselves in a compromising or

Vulnerable position like when they’re you know retrieving a puck when they’re trying to eat a puck along the board or where they’re um you know circling around the net carrying the puck it’s going to happen right but what I’ve noticed compared and guys I invite everyone when you watch the next game

With uh with Montreal watch watch how gly defends and watch how sometimes he I won’t say that he’s completely horizontal you know but he’s not straight a lot like I always find that he’s very hunched over whether when it’s when he’s reaching for pucks um or when he’s controlling the puck sometimes he

Puts himself in really and listen it’s going to happen to a lot of players I’m not saying that other players don’t do this as well but I find that he puts himself very very often in vulnerable position so something that I’m a little concerned about if he’s going to be

Somebody that’s going to play a lot of top minutes he really needs to it’s kind of like what we talked about with slavoski last year about his awareness and being able to absorb hits and things like that it’s something that he I hope that the coaching staff is working with him on

Um you know I’m sure some some people will mention well it’s probably happening because he’s playing on the right it’s not his natural side but and you’re probably right like it’s probably something that uh happens a little bit more frequently because he’s not on his on on his left side but this is

Something that predates that I think like uh it’s something that I’ve noticed in his game for a long time even predating uh the time where he was playing on the right so just something to be you know kind of concerned about guys like with how much time Montreal

Spends in its own Zone and I’m sure we’ll talk about that at some point tonight coach like um last game against Columbus Columbus was just exploiting uh Montreal’s man-on-man system so much that you know you’re the defenseman it’s very very taxing on the defenseman having to skate around uh when you’re

Doing the manto man in the defense is having to go all the way to the blue line to to follow uh a player that’s that’s going up to the top of the of the of the zone and stuff like that he just needs to be more economical a little bit

More careful I believe in ghouly like um you know I I’ve talked about this before like I would be willing to trade Kad and ghouly if it was for the right package to get that top six forward that that we need um I’m not saying that I feel that

Way just because of this but it’s one element that that concerns me about his game you know the the the leaving himself a little bit vulnerable in these cases and and potentially kind of um ending up injured more often than we would like and I think overall his Puck

Touches his like when he’s going back to regroup and his um you know he’s not handling it as quickly as I’d like so I’m curious if you guys are seeing the same thing like um you know in particular it’s he’s reaching a lot putting himself in awkward positions or

Along the boards especially just not really protecting himself very well like are you guys noticing that um have you guys heard or coach like is there something that they could be doing to to coach him to to be a little bit more uh cautious and to be a little more

Straight when he’s kind of Defending like curious what you guys think about this one and now that your go yeah I was just gonna say I I I have noticed it with gly I I I think it’s uh something that needs to be addressed in

Terms of the even the way he takes it I think that that’s something that is very very few times is is is uh talked about uh there are ways that you can absorb hits in in a fashion where you know injuries are not as prevalent and I’m

Not seeing that with gouie so I think that that’s something that um either some of the coaches or even trainers uh in terms of his upper body uh strengthening uh has to address because otherwise he could find himself especially with that shoulder he could find himself into a lot of uh uh

Difficult situations in the future great Point um you know it’s an you know for me is like when I read this the first time I said oh I would be disagree with Marco about that until he talk about the body check is another aspect of the game a young age you need to

Learn as a defenseman so uh and to play the LD it play on the from the left to other side it’s it everything change right uh you on the back hands you’re not for hands anymore your children check is usually we said usually you go from the inside outside one you left

Wing so H left defenseman so you go back down to retrieve the park you’re going to look look on that side first right over the left shoulder and then you’re going to look on the right after that but now you become an RD now you have to

Turn around again you have to chck again so it’s an adaptation for him about that and I think for me it’s more about how he can become better behind the goal line it’s really where he need to improve more his game is physicality of the game and something it’s just that

Put is himself Escape at the right position that’s that with you body so it’s little bit half second one second but it’s so fast Marco that because sometime you just get you not get there so it’s a an that for him to get there also is a part of uh of the management

Your time on the ice uh how many second are you on the ice when you get the 30 second 40 second the 50 second right now what you have to you cannot have the same kind of uh your uh I would said your physical if the game is not the

Same you not at 100% now you may be at 80% 7% so it’s manage is time it’s play behind the go line one is a bit more fatigue everything like that and sometime you don’t have to hit you have to to the guy to try to to get hit it

Just put you sick at the right position and just bring the guy on the wall close the close the the the HP and that’s that s put the guy out of the parck and then you have the another one pick up the puck so it’s all those adapation for him

A young age and he play a t minute uh for 22 years old and he play guys again the opening the best players on the ice constantly every night whatever is Toronto mat Carolina with FL with backov it’s not matter he always there so it’s a part of his development is about his

Progression his Improvement but it’s a great point to talk about this is I think uh it’s looking about the details of the game right it’s easy to see the the highlights of the game or to see how you see the great pass and then the goal

And that’s it but when you watch the details of the game that’s a good comments about to see how Ki can improve the only I’ll be disagree with you Marco is I will not trade Ki at all I don’t see any defenseman better to Kaden k r

With the m Canadian I I don’t see that and a long term I don’t see anybody yet now you can talk about odson reaker Mayu you know those kind of play we did not see yet performing in the NHL we don’t know yet how they going to become but if you look

About already we COI JY Iris um you know those kind of young player they have right now and the when they came last season I think for me is really Ki is the best and who can play the 23 minute 24 minutes per night uh I

Don’t see any player right now for the monal Canadian it would be more like a um I would be War Mar become like a you know like a first PA ring uh but it could become a one B first bearing like the goer one a one B that would be my my

Concern about that now they trade ran Marco and because they knew they can get K under behind ranov so I would be I disagree when you trade him at this moment or right now but if you have someone really better uh and he can take those kind minute but he will if you

Need to add a good top six forward at minimum at top five in my opinion maybe top four but it could be the one could be sacrificed but right now I would not than King one minute to try Ken C okay so let me let me reiterate here right

So so again I I agree with everything you said like you know obviously he’s playing top minutes playing on his wrong side and everything else right I invite you to to again carefully watch it’s it’s yes there’s there’s parts of his game where obviously he’s needs to be

Better uh you know under the goal line and things like that like I alluded to like his retrievals and everything else right what concerns me though is his positioning on this how he positions his body often I find he puts himself in a very vulnerable position right so it’s

It’s it’s not like his hockey IQ and his positioning everything else I think are Le it just like I said when he’s playing if you compare him to other defenseman even on Montreal even on Montreal not just on other teams watch him like he’s his his body is is sometimes not that

Straight he’s always kind of like leaning over right and it’s just that and same thing when he’s along the boards his body position is is a little unsettling and I’m just concerned that if somebody in the coaching staff doesn’t address that he’s going to put himself in positions where he’s going to

Get injured a lot yeah because you’re just putting you’re like and I get it right it’s kind of like what Gallagher does sometimes when a when a player cares so much he’s going to reach right he’s going to kind of like overextend his body to kind of like get that little

Extra thing but with ghouly I think he puts himself in very vulnerable positions and it’s not just the times that he’s gotten injured but I I see him fall in very very awkward positions all the time and you know it’s one thing to fall and to take a hit and everything

Else but when you when you’re in when you put yourself and you’re you’re not positioning your body in the corre way I’m concerned it’s going to result I give you a name Marco if you bet you know he thought okay can you remember that can we go back again right but

Because I I was in Florida um egg blood when he start to play an NHL it was exactly like the the the way you talk about when cing like it was soft it was shaky it was not strong for his size right I that I believe it’s

6’4 yeah I think so right so for his stature he was really not there like he was got beat a lot of time uh not only by the speed by the physicality of the players and again it took him a couple of years so for me you’re right when you

Mentioned that but this is an adaptation at the game uh behind that I I always said one thing maybe is vulnerable for for his body but he’s still winning battle he still compete uh right there yeah yeah he very well but I can understand when you talk about the

Concern at this moment for me young age adaptation is it’s just uh going to get B better and better but when you talk for the when you talk the your last part of the headline I was definitely thinking about egg blood with this is and the young I Nate

Thompson Nate Thompson with alanders he took him two years before he become we now not said offensive side I’m talking about the defensive side and and guys defensively is hard it’s not easy uh and we gave him more Mak we gave him a lot more responsibilities at young age like

He is like he should be like he should be at least is only a second pair ring or a third pair ring to adapt and the style so he’s learning on the trenches but what you said you’re right I I agree with you but I would not trade K yeah

It’s you know what it is it’s something that’s very very correctable I think it just needs to be addressed and you notice that you’re right markco when he does go down a little bit and he’s not as vertical he loses his periphery viewing so he doesn’t know what’s coming

At him either at least he could prepare his body if if he sees a hit that he can avoid I think he’s focused more on on the play that’s going on and that’s a dangerous thing for uh for a defenseman because you really have to have eyes

That are wide and behind your head as well otherwise you could get injured very easily he’s an important player for us guys so I just invite everyone like when you’re watching the game try to pay attention to how uh you know how his body is positioned when he’s defending

And I’m sure you’ll notice that he’s he’s often he’s putting themselves in these awkward positions compared to kind of some other defenseman that you see and I think you’ll you’ll notice the same thing but is a very important asset for it for us like I’m not saying that I

Would prioritize trading gly I think again for an elite piece that would be very hard to find I would be willing to consider it but um I didn’t want to relate those two things necessarily that I’m not saying we should trade him because he’s going to get injured but

It’s it’s a you know something for sure it’s funny you talk about this because yesterday have a conversation with Roy about petta like sometime we we we spend time talking about the the player not going to be there by anyway the story behind that is at some point we turn

Around and we he he asked this question what we can do to get a top everything like that and I was said to you Mar after that is not in the position to trade any defenseman because they don’t know yet who they are and you take a risk if you

Trat one of them like C full game with mon Canadian and Detroit him they never watch Rand McDonald when he play an n and they just let it go so sometime I would say to you I think mon are one year at least one year to evaluate the

To be competitive and to move forward from that like uh we look at you know the whole in in the Canadians roster um you know has I I think it’s been clearly identified uh this year it’s it’s offensive lines two three and four right uh where the

Club uh has troubles right now and I I think that this is where Hugh’s most important work remains um you know on the first line of course with Suzuki and Coffield and slavoski uh right now they’re running uh an impressive uh 60 plus goals expected uh they’re also improving offensively

With Suzuki now flirting with a point per game Pace U and we’ll it’ll be interesting to see if he reaches that for this year that’s I mean that would be a a very nice milestone for him to set for himself if he hasn’t already and

See if he can obtain it um and I remain optimistic that he he will uh for this year uh The Defenders if we look at that they’re they’re not an issue in terms of offense uh as well like the the crew together uh I think are right now ranked

Third highest total in in the NHL behind only U Colorado and I believe Calgary is now in second uh in terms of uh contributions offensively especially with goals uh so that’s that’s also a positive on on their uh on their end um so like looking at forwards let’s say four through to

12 uh the Canadians uh it’s bad it Montreal has the worst goals goal totals in the entire league uh and it’s next season that the team I think needs to and will likely improve at least in this category and maybe hopefully end up at least in the Middle Ground of the NHL in

That category uh I think it’ll make a big difference once you get somebody like Kirby doc back into the fold uh new Hook was injured for quite a while if perhaps Joshua Rah stays at that at that spot and you may have launched your second line I’m not saying that will be

It but uh because a lot of things can happen along the way and I still think that maybe somebody like uh Kirby Doc is better suited on on the third line uh just to add a little bit more depth to that but uh he’s been doing very well

And I I I’ve enjoyed uh where he’s taken the helped take the team so far umby on the third line no sorry I meant uh Alex new hook my my my mistake thanks um you know you had a alongside all of this you had hopes for the future uh through you

Know prospects that they’ve acquired to date um somebody like uh you know the first name that comes to mind for me is somebody like an owan Beck who’s been uh absolutely heated up in in in s Sagen I think he’s a he’s going to be a solid smart defensive type of u center

Um you know ever since he went to the spirit he’s been on a a great a great Pace I think he’s got like uh he’s gone 12 games uh he’s got 24 points in his last 12 games and he’s currently on a 14o streak as well so that’s quite

Impressive again how does that translate to the NHL I mean only time will tell but if all these pieces that are sort of In Motion uh work out to your advantage into your favor you’re you’re you’re addressing some big needs right off the bat um from Hugh’s perspective I mean he

Has to look at it from this perspective and I I think it’s you know what defines success well it’s it’s sort of what he’s prepared so far and where opportunity will take him as well so it’s the old uh you know preparation and opportunity meet and I think that that’s the way

He’s looking at it as well like he’s looking at the fact that he’s got 23 picks uh in this year’s draft and next year’s uh draft together uh you know the cupboard is you know relatively um full with prospects of of which not all of them will be able to be

Signed and I know we’ve talked about it at length at times in terms of where they are in their in their development stage and and the fact that they’re going to have to probably package some of these uh prospects together to acquire or to fill in a hole that they

They currently have but it um you know and I think the mindset here has to change from rebuilding now to how how do we try to make winning a more consistent um prevalent way of of going about things and I don’t think even next year it’s out of the question for them

To be I mean you should always be thinking when you get into a season you know my goal is to make the playoffs that should be your base right there um and I don’t think that that’s unrealistic for them next year I don’t particularly think it will be next year

But I think they can be competitive enough to be in that conversation um you don’t the the important thing is you don’t want to consistently be in a situation where you’re losing games uh especially now that you’ve established like a young core that’s uh we’re seeing

What they’re capable of and this sort of leads to a consistent pattern of losing so it’s about the you know that whole culture that you’re trying to build and you don’t you never want to get into that stage where you’re thinking you know uh L is okay or uh this is where

We’re at so let’s accept it and that that creates apathy and and that doesn’t bode well for their future success um you know the current players that are on the team you know they don’t want to hear about uh you know the fact that they have 23 picks coming up over the

Next couple of years um or that somebody could possibly be taking over their their job on the team like they want to win they’re in Wind mode uh as they are right now um and we’re seeing that so I think therefore it has to the onus has

To be on Hughes he has to you know he has to get in a spot where uh he’s going to make things happen so that this summer uh he can either pull off something like a dock or a new hook kind of trade or he gets creative even in terms of

Um uh what does with those first two round picks this year I mean there’s some theories I have but uh I’m I’m not sure that that’s the direction will go but uh I’ll probably get into that in a different High U headliner down the road

At some point as we get closer to the draft um you know yesterday Hughes sort of hinted um at his draft plan if you think about it that TSN um interview that he had uh where he sort of hinted at the fact that uh he’s

GNA try to in the draft and we always say take the best athlete that’s there at the time of your pick but he said he might he might stray off that plan and actually go fur forward since he’s addressed the issue to be in that second

Third and fourth line so I I wouldn’t be surprised when you’re looking at guys like celebrini demidov Lindstrom um it’s going to be hard to probably get any one of those three uh especially if you’re somewhere around seven eight or ninth in in your uh pick but uh the defenseman

Are very good this year in the draft and I think that some of the teams depending on who those teams are they will be selecting defenseman which will allow some other uh guys like maybe Cole Eiserman or Berkeley Katon um or uh even hel to drop in in in the uh in the

Rankings a little bit and might you know land even ainla I think is is is a pretty good pick uh if you get it around uh the top 10 there um it’s it’s something that I I think that they have to try to accelerate this whole process

And I think that that’s their intent it’s not it’s not something that they’re going to be content with saying well let’s take you know three four years if you look at teams like Arizona uh coach and Marco like you know uh they show promise of course but they really

Experience in the NHL but mat and sard have as much experience and I would probably take mat and sard over um over sanheim and you know whoever that you know other than Walker like like yes they have a decent Decor but coach let’s be honest the reason well uh Sean coutu

Is probably the number reason one reason why that they’re making the playoffs this year compared to last year like and they have you know healthy a healthy roster right KY played more games um you know and they have um who’s the other guy that that came from Columbus I

Hard for a general manager uh can go to his owner and say you know what it’s it’s it’s pretty much impossible to rebuild to like collect assets and build through the draft and be competitive at the same time it’s just very hard to do it’s like torella and Brier are kind of

Making that a very hard argument U and it’s not like they have Elite goal ending either coach like they had decent goal tending it’s just a really solid team play right so I think with with the roster that Montreal has we looked at the top nine that they have even without

Making a big move this summer if you add Doc and you have a w now that’s in this top nine you’re not that far off you’re not that far off no no and that that that was the point I I think that pretty much they could have that second line

Going and and how they draft that forward this year if if it happens to be somebody if you should be fortunate get somebody like Lindstrom even Katan I think that they can they can start playing right away uh they’re that talented I think for the
