Wyndham Clark makes birdie FROM HERE at THE PLAYERS

In the third round of THE PLAYERS Championship 2024, Wyndham Clark calls on an official after sending his tee shot on the opening hole. Clark was looking to confirm whether his ball was plugged or not. The official ruled that his ball was not plugged and Clark was to play the ball as it laid. From there, Clark would dig it out and land his approach 5 feet from the cup to set up an opening birdie.

The PGA TOUR heads to Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida this week for the 50th anniversary of the THE PLAYERS Championship at TPC Sawgrass. Defending champion and World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler returns to TPC Sawgrass’ Stadium Course looking to become the first golfer to go back-to-back at THE PLAYERS after his impressive win last week at the Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard. This was his seventh victory on TOUR since the 2022 WM Phoenix Open. He has also claimed four top-10s across his five starts so far this season. Rory McIlroy will also be in the field this week. He is without a top-20 this season but will take confidence from his victory here in 2019. Viktor Hovland returns to TPC Sawgrass following two straight top-10 finishes at THE PLAYERS, including a solo third last season. Others to look out for are 2021 PLAYERS winner Justin Thomas, 2023 U.S Open champion Wyndham Clark, Hideki Matsuyama and Xander Schauffele.

Meantime back over to Clark Woody what’s going on over there well Windam Clark’s ball is sitting so far down he called Xander over to see if it was embedded in fact I think he’s going to call for a rules official to get a look at it it is

Way down there so uh tough to tell with this thick rough if it’s actually embedded or not but he’s going to call in an official to take a look John we never saw that ball bounce from the angle when when the ball landed it just went straight down most of the other

Balls we we at least saw a little hop yeah we’ve seen some bad lies of week but this is you can barely see the ball when you’re standing right over it so it wouldn’t surprise me at all if this actually plugged this is to the the

Players got the uh the ability to do this cuz you know they can call an official anytime they want you know if you see top yeah if if it gets through the ground yeah you got to have some indention through the through the surface of the ground to no bounce it

Looks like it is definitely plugged to me nothing hopped up there and that is a little lower area away from those Mounds came shortly out of it but still like so I mean you can look but my question is if it’s partially touching is it to in the plug yeah it’s

Got to be in so you wouldn’t say that no it’s definitely outside of it okay just make it sure yep no problem I think this rose up to people’s minds a little bit more back in 2021 Tory pin’s the Patrick Reed situation I bring in Mark du bobic who’s

Always with us to handle rules questions and issues Mark what are the conversation and the options there thank you Mike you saw Andrew Miller go in there in the conversation Kevin alluded to it it has to break the surface but what Andrew was talking to him about it

Broke the surface it just didn’t stay below the level of the surface of the ground so that doesn’t make it embedded it has to stay Below in that pitch mark pretty simple rule to follow that means it’s going to be difficult to dig out very far for Clark second yeah 132

Total and this is all strength you have no excuse no strength is the only thing that can dig this out and he’s got it out amazingly well for that H that ball was sitting see it’s going to sit L you could not see that ball guys literally

You can see about two dimples another great example we saw it at the ninth earlier this week the strength of Windam Clark to go down and get these watch how fast the club head stops once it gets in there look at that shaft look at a Turf

Go flying forward and we talked about how important it is to be a long hitter sometimes it’s really important to be a strong person too to be able to hit the shots like that and we’ve seen a number of them this week already from Lam Clark

I always thought it was so important to make a birdie after two good rounds early just to say okay I’m still in this mode this has been the most impressive part to me of his game the confidence the acceleration through it Pace he hit that ball into the hole thanks for

  1. I got $20 on Wyndham to win. Pays $1K. Which means he will be in the lead until the back nine on Sun when he will shoot +4.

  2. We already saw from last week how Wyndham is a seasoned pro at tamping down the grass and aggressively pushing down the sole of his club deep into the rough to improve his lie.
