Brees for giving us a a fun fan mention and for our next fan mention of the week we got 92 Center who saw us talking about making knives that’s right on last week’s episode uh we talked about it we brought up the show it’s been one of my
Favorites for a long time dude and we got a response from the man himself Mr Doug Mark kaida that’s right who the [ __ ] is that guy he’s one of the judges of for and fire he’s awesome oh nice we heard that you might have what it takes
To make it kill well if you and Travis ever want to battle it off outside of the field come on over to our Forge or invite you and maybe teach you how to be master bladesmiths and then find out if it will kill it will kill thought I enjoyed that I don’t know
What that meant though so the judges always test the knives or swords or whatever they’re having the bladesmith’s forg in the fire and Doug is always the one on the last one where he’s cutting into flesh usually some type of animal a pig or something like that sometimes it
Might be like gelatin mold yeah it should be so anyway it’s on TV should be a nice tell if uh it’s his job to tell if the weapon is able to Keel or not which is just how he pronounce his kill I think I just pictured a pig coming out

First one here from uh user Queen Liz 4352 yeah Queen Liz 4352 no dumb question can you explain what salary capf free agent means okay I can’t explain what that sentence means what does it mean when it’s reported that they are clearing salary cap space I’m going to need you
To explain it to me like I’m 5 years old because I’m completely confused well we can tell by the the way you just uh of you just phrased that first question that you really have no idea what’s going on my my assumption is that um you’re combining salary cap and free
Agent um in the same because because typically you clear up Sally cap space during free agency that might be the only kind of tie that I can think that they’re making here but um you want to take it Jason sure yeah so uh so I guess we’ll start with salary cap salary cap
In the NFL is each team has an amount that they’re allowed to pay players within a given year cap on it okay and that is what the salary cap is is the allotment of all the salaries for the players for the year cannot exceed that threshold I think this year it’s is it$
240 million that’s sh went up $30 million it did go up 30 but I don’t remember remember exactly what that cap is this year and there’s all sorts of it gets a little bit more complicated than that because there’s like guaranteed money signing bonuses signing bonuses are pro-rated over the length of the
Contract but for Simplicity purposes teams cannot H go beyond that spend limit of the salary cap within a given season yeah and that changes year over year and then what happens if they do if they do man I don’t even know you get reprimanded right I do know it’s got to
Be pretty strict because I feel like the NFL like in baseball there’s like a luxury tax right yeah or basketball basball basball everybody can kind of operate like a free freely like it’s a lot less of like a hard ceiling yeah it feels like football salary cap is more
Of like hey I don’t really think teams go over the salary cap or are allowed to so I don’t really know how that works I’m pretty sure teams go over and you get like deducted draft picks maybe stuff like that I don’t know I wish there was like an intern or somebody
Just kind of like spelling this out right now for us underneath so we didn’t look like a bunch of jokes but um yeah so we got let’s go back let’s go to free agency we got so a free agent I don’t really know if we’re talking about free agent a free agency
But a free agent is just somebody who’s not under contract uh Queen Liz it’s a player that is no longer under contract with a team uh so they are free to hit the market for all 32 teams to try and sign them when you’re under contract you’re not allowed to talk with other
Teams you are have an exclusive contract with the with the football club that you are assigned uh too so a free agent is just somebody who is not currently under contract free agency is a period that starts at the beginning of the league year uh and runs in perpetuity like I
Mean free agency is always kind of open I feel like yeah how does that work once the I don’t even know that’s not we’re diving into some stuff that we just do not know about anyway free agency starts at the leag year that’s why you’re seeing all of these contracts signed
Right now because all these players that were under contract are now free agents because as a new league year has started so they are now officially on the market uh to be signed by whomever whomever all right the NFL’s cap is a hard cap that teams have to stay under at all times
And the salary floor is also a hard floor I did know about this yeah penalties for violating or circumventing the cap regulations include fines of up to $5 million for each violation and cancelling of contracts and lost of draft picks yeah nice so you just can’t
Do it it’s not even an option well it is it it is an option you just get you get deducted money but I think they make you cancel contracts until you’re back under it nice if you go over it you get not only you get a slap on the wrist with $5
Million uh to these billion dollar organizations you also have to cancel contracts until you’re under the camp oh no we got to cancel more contracts oh 5 million the Flor though is actually interesting I think it’s up to you have to spend up to like 95 to 98% of the
Salary cap as a as a owner it’s more Nuance than that I think there’s like a fiveyear running total or something like that like the floor is like your fiveyear average of spending has to be within 88 or 90% of the salary camp or something like that something like that
So like within a year you can be lower but over five years you have to spend it’s something like that anyways I don’t know if that’s exactly right but I know there’s some [ __ ] weird with that uh and this so yeah Queen Liz I think we thoroughly made you more confused about
It than we started this is why we do no dumb questions so we can get to the bottom of how stupid me and Jason are yeah this is this is why Howie Roseman is uh highly successful because he understands every Nuance to the salary cap and he is using it to his Advantage

With an instrument in grade Hot Cross Buns Oh no you’re talking about a real instrument well no you started an instrument too you played Hot Cross Buns on a trumpet for a little bit you gave it up quick you got over it very I got forced to be in because everybody wants
To play the drums I feel like and the percussion you would have been a good drummer I would have been drumming the [ __ ] out of that thing but no I got I got forced to play something else you had already picked the coolest of the horns in the saxophone so and I didn’t
Want to be like you so I chose something else and I picked the little [ __ ] Miles Davis the little the little Sammy Davis no not Sammy Davis Jr is it no Louis Armstrong you thinking of a trumpet play Louis Armstrong if you’re talking about cool though you can’t
Leave out Miles Davis the birth of cool so yeah Travis uh picked up trumpet and got out of that fairly quickly did you do it in middle school or did you only Middle School when did you stop I stopped in 8th grade you only had to do
It for sixth and seventh I think I started with saxophone and played it all the way through high school I played in symphonic band in high school as well as I played in uh The jazzz Ensemble which at Cleveland Heights was pretty prestigious let me tell you yeah that
Was pretty sweet yeah I used to love going to those ones the orchester ones the the big like those ones were cool when it was the Jazz Ensemble I was all in on that I was like yeah I’ll go to this one I’ll show I’ll show up for this one
Watch Jason step up and [ __ ] just rip a solo rip a baritone sack solo electric no Mr Baker was uh the band director as well as the the uh Jazz Ensemble director and um man I uh I I tell people this all the time I really think playing band and playing music in
General um has allowed me to excel in sport and other things because as with anything I I encourage kids to play as many sports do as many extracurriculars as you can that you enjoy because you end up drawing things from each one of those that is unique and different
1,000% yeah with band in my opinion if you want to learn the importance and the value of practice nothing will teach you that more clearer than an instrument practice the first time you pick up that instrument and try to play anything you are going to be terrible but the more
You practice at it you will get good like it’s that simple it’s just so right in your face how much that affects how you play you also learn to like Tempo how you learn so like when you’re learning a song if you try and play at
Full speed you can’t do it right away so you what do you do you slow it down you walk through it you go through the fingerings you go through the notes and and you do the same thing in football like when you’re going with a route like
If you just try and run at full speed every single time no there’s a time to utilize Tempo there’s a time to like walk through it and hit every step technique yeah so I think that there’s a lot of carryover and band and a lot of
Things that people try and do and um it’s a lot of fun and I had a really really good teacher that I’ve kept in touch with throughout the years and Brett Baker it wouldn’t have been right to not thank him yeah I hear you on that
Because you taught me a lot I’ll tell you what I um I was never in music but I always felt like Mr Baker was kind of like hovering like looking over me because I was your little brother Cuz Mr Baker was a big football fan that he
Loved football he played football I mean it was yeah for sure he is a Steelers fan which we don’t hold that against him too much but I mean you were but you were you were a big Drome Bettis fan growing up so yeah that’s true but who wasn’t
Very true that’s the [ __ ] bust I mean Jason you also you picked up a lot of different instruments too we talked about the the drums and you outside the uh the lacr the girls lacrosse games and really really all height sports but well in Jazz Ensemble I had to play saxophone
And then on certain songs you would transition to like a bass clarinet and like jazz lab I started playing bone for a couple years for what maybe one year yeah I mean I wasn’t I didn’t get I could not do it again if I tried I don’t
Remember any of the notes or anything but it was just fun to mess around with that so I I like trying new instruments you know since I’ve been out of band in high school I’ve taught myself how to play guitar I’ve tried harmonica which dude Little Blues Traveler I can’t do that
Was um harmonica you remember that gr up dude you remember him I do not what I think he got he got one of us a harmonica for like our birthday or Christmas one day I vaguely remember that and we kind of just just had it around the house we never really
Actually played it I think instruments are fun to try and pick up and learn how to play and then you kind of fall into which ones you really like and I always wish I would have taken piano more seriously because that’s like one that’s it’s always nice when the piano’s there
And you can just sit down and start playing the keys impressive it’s impressive it is I wish I uh I wish I because that’s actually where I started in music in elementary school dad dad used to throw me in the piano lessons and I got decent I
Remember going to like my first recital and like hearing everyone clap for me because I’m a little [ __ ] kid and I just finished a song but it was just like it was so rewarding I was just like man I want like I like this feeling I

Guaranteed one-year contract of the top five average in that position group so if I wanted to if I they franchise tagged me they take the top five contracts uh that year for tight ends and it would be the accumulative right it’ be the average of all of them I
Think it’s the average if I’m not mistaken yeah yeah it’s the average of all of them and then I would get guaranteed that money that year it’s not in the players favor uh to do this in a sense because you want some like longevity and some security knowing that
You would have money coming in for the next couple years but it is a um it is a way to get paid uh top five of your uh position group um for a year and it kind of keeps you um on the team that you’re at so sometimes it can be a good
Situation sometimes it it can kind of I don’t know put guys in handcuffs but um yeah I’m not I don’t think I’m too big of a fan of the franchise Tech I feel like if a guy’s going to be a free agent just let him be a free agent but yeah it
Is a move that teams will utilize when a player is commanding top dollar and they’re about to be a free agent and the teams don’t want to for whatever reason commit long term it’s an easy way to kind of get somebody under contract for one season and um I’m pretty sure the
Franchise tag there’s two different tags right there’s the so there’s a franchise tag and what is the other one there is another one it’s the and the other one you don’t see used as often It’s usually the transition franchise tag so basically you can go out and see if you
Can get a better contract somewhere else or a higher contract and the team that you’re with can match that maybe yeah it has like right of first refusal or something like that yeah and I think that’s the one that larius uh got thrown on oh really to where yeah I’m pretty
Sure it’s an unrestricted franchise tag or something like that this we should have put this in no dumb questions cuz we’re a bunch of dumb asses nonexclusive so he got a nonexclusive I believe so got it there’s a nonexclusive tag there’s an exclusive tag and transition

About things give that reassurance to the young guys of of the road and uh and kind of the path you got to take to to keep getting better throughout the season that that’s that’s so much more valuable than you can even put in words man you want a good blend you want you
Want some veteran um experience within a locker room but that you also want Youth and you want excitement and you want those guys that are realizing their dreams for the first time in their careers and having a good blend of that in my opinion usually makes up the best
Locker room and they lost Fletch on the defensive line but being able to retain BG uh will be outstanding for that room and then there’s a lot of guys that have been waiting in the Rings in in the in the ranks to to be more vocal I mean and
Some of them already started doing that you know uh obviously on offensive line lane Johnson’s been there for a long time he’ll be able to step in more than you know for me and what I offered [ __ ] yeah you got Landon Dickerson and Jordan Mader coming into their own uh AJ Brown
You know there’s there’s a lot of guys and everybody leads in their own way and you know when you have a a great team they all figure out how to lean on each other for what they bring uh the most and um you know it’s it’s it’s awesome

Signing with Philadelphia how about this former Giants running back saquon Barkley has reached an agreement with the Philadelphia Eagles on a three-year 37.75 million contract 26 fully guaranteed that’s boyan we’ve seen firsthand his whole career how good he is playing the New York Giants uh and even playing at Penn
State in in state you know think this guy has been unbelievable everywhere he’s been dude he’s [ __ ] worldclass athlete man huge huge signing for Philadelphia and I’m happy for sequan because you know not the I’m not trying to talk trash in this I think you’re
You’re coming to a team that has had a legitimate offensive line established for a very long time and you haven’t come to coach who’s been there for a long time and they’ve had proven success with nearly every running back so you know saquan is entering a good situation
In Philadelphia social media has been uh non-stop uh saying Jason you sure you want to retire and I’m like yeah I’m I’m pretty positive even though uh you know a little bit upset how we waited till I retired to make a move like this but you
Know it’s fine uh it’ll it’ll work out great no I think listen I think when you add a weapon like this it’s only going to expand and the um the way you can attack a defense and this is a guy that you can do so much with man yeah we have
A great offensive line we can put you running backs in good situations and put them in these one-on-one spots you know DeAndre Swift did a great job of that last year so did M Sanders and uh I think saquan is going to do a pretty good job of that this year he’s gonna
He’s going to make that last guy either miss or make a tackle that’s going to extend it another few yards and that’s what you want out of these running backs you know the guys that can extend a play and make it an explosive or do something special uh when they get the opportunity
And this is one of those difference makers at the running back position that is is increasingly uh hard to find I feel like in the NFL dude the skill set in Philly the skill positions in Philly listen we got AJ Brown Devonte Smith Dallas gard it’s crazy you have pro bowlers at every
[ __ ] every starter on really every starter on that Philly offense is a pro bowler every single one of them you ain’t lying from the wide outs to the tight ends tight end to J Dude to the dude even the offensive line dude that’s what I’m saying the entire
