At the bottom of the hour, HoF NFL writer Charean Williams joined the program to talk Aggie football, Aggie NFL free agents and more. The second hour kicked off with TexAgs basketball correspondent Justin Lanham as he recapped the road loss to Tennessee and previewed the Ags matchup with South Carolina. At the bottom of the hour, Texas A&M head women’s basketball coach Joni Taylor called in to preview Thursday’s matchup with the Lady Vols. At the top of the final hour, Tom Hart of the SEC Network joined the show to talk Aggie hoops, SEC basketball and more. The bottom of the hour heard Pounding the Rock with David Sandhop as he recapped the loss against the Volunteers and looked ahead to the Maroon and White’s matchup with the 18th-ranked Gamecocks.

Player but it was pretty well known that he was now playing to uh uh for the NFL okay and did not want to get hurt I think I know you’re talking about and there was another guy that played the same position that just played played great all the
Time but was you know not as old as you know and blue Coller would have meant all right then let’s play the guy that really wants to play right instead of the guy that has been at one time established but maybe not given 100% effort anymore you think you know who I’m

Combine because there’s some questions about yeah it’s more about the medical and and the interviews I think than anything else the actual testing part at least for the the top guys I mean you know now we’ve seen guys obviously rise and fall based on their numbers here and
And it’s often been a mistake if you go back even to Mike molah my first combine you know he put on a show and it ended up being one of the top picks and obviously a lot of people don’t even know Mike mola’s name um that’s what he’s known for is being a
Workout Warrior and you put on the tape and and you saw that he probably wasn’t going to be a very good player and he wasn’t and didn’t last long with the Eagles so you know you gota you got to use your eyes when you watch the tape
More the game tape more than what they do here not put as much stock into having said all that you know I think for guys in in those second to Priority free agent range it’s important and it’s important to work out well here and
Show uh that you can you can put up the good numbers that you can do the onfield drills very well so I think it’s important for those types of guys to actually work out work out well but for top guys it’s more medical you know Michael pennick for instance his biggest
Thing here is going to be the medical testing how does how do those knees look how does that come out how do they judge him um medically you know what do the doctors say more than anything else that he does uh on the field whether he throws or not talking to Shireen
Williams Shireen what which Aggie you think can really help their stock this week is are th those evaluations ongoing does somebody seem like they they can be a riser this week I think they all can but you know you look enen and I I think discussed
This last week or the week before about Cooper you know I think he has a chance to propel himself into the first round that’s you know you can go from from a high second round pick to a first round pick I you know if you put on a show
Here he did really well at the Senior Bowl and that helped him and I think he can really help himself and and maybe get into that first round if he can put on a good good show here uh for the scouts this week but all of them like
There are no top 10 no-brainer pick so they’re all gonna work out if they’re healthy and they all have a chance to to rise up the draft board based on what they do here it’s my understanding that uh neither Jaden Daniels nor Caleb Williams are throwing or doing anything
There Drake May is um to your knowledge are all the other quarterbacks actually participating and uh in your opinion should the Dallas Cowboys use a early pick like a top three pick on a quarterback um yes it they have all indicated that they are going to throw
The other quarterback so I think we’ll see that I do not think they should use an early pick on a quarterback that’s why he traded for Tre Lance and they haven’t seen enough of tre Lance we’re going to see in the preseason what Tre Lance can do how much of this offense
He’s learned uh but that’s why they traded the fourth round pick for for Tre Lance to possibly be their quarterback in the future so they want another year with Tre Lance see what he can do now having said all that you could pick a you could draft a quarterback every
Single year and I’d be fine with that and teams that used to do that the Packers were one of them and then they would trade those quarterbacks those quarterbacks would become pretty good players and play well in the preseason and they to get trade value for them so
I’m never opposed to drafting a quarterback I just don’t know that they should draft one early in this draft but if you if you get one in that four five six range as as a prospect I am not opposed to that at all Shireen when we were texting yesterday you you mentioned
A bunch of Aggie free agents there in the NFL uh give us some of the names some of the big ones yeah I put up my uh our top 100 uh went up today and uh of course the the big one is Justin matab BK he’s number
Five on our list among all the free agents uh I would expect the Ravens to franchise tag him if they can’t sign him to a long-term deal but I you know they’re hoping to sign him to a long-term deal but they only have until next week to do that um before having to
Apply the tag and then they can keep negotiating after that until July to try to get that deal done but he’s one there’s quite a few on here um I and I I regret that we never had um Germaine alumor as one of our players of
The week because he had a really great year for the Raiders last year moving to right tackle he’s 74 on our left and I think he’s going to see uh some interest in in Frey well Josh Reynolds is is 87 um you know he had those drops in the
NFC Championship Game and he’s proved himself to be a really good two or three receiver uh for teams and I know the Lions want to resign him and he may end up staying there but I think he’ll have an opportunity in free agency to to get
A pretty good deal and then Ryan tanah Hill is a free agent an interesting one you know he’s had the injury history hasn’t played very well in a couple of years I don’t think he’s he’s going to be highly highly paid I think it’ll be an incentive Laden contract but it’s
Gonna be interesting to see if he gets a chance to to get a starting job to compete for a starting job with as some team because you know there’s 32 teams and you know you start looking at top quarterbacks there’s probably half the teams that would like to upgrade a
Quarterback or don’t have a quarterback and some of those are going to be in the draft some of those are going to be you know signing kurk cousins or or Baker Mayfield the Bucks probably resign Baker Mayfield but they’re still G to leave a lot of teams looking for a quarterback
So there’s going to be some quarterback needy teams that that are going to have interest in in Ryan tany Hill he might be the most interesting free agent in this entire free agency and Mike Evans as well right and Mike Evans Mike how did I forget
Mike Evans he’s also in our top 10 um I don’t expect him to resign with the Buccaneers I think he’ll end up elsewhere and uh we’ll we’ll see where that is but I think he ends up with a nice third contract for him and is gonna get paid again Shireen uh Dan Campbell’s

Different things in each game you can pinpoint different things but uh to me it’s just the struggles offensively uh just feel like they’ve gotten a little a little worse and and obviously I think part of that is because too I think teams you know you get further and
Further into conference play and teams just start to figure figure you out more um and so they get more film on you and and kind of see your Tendencies and things like that and so I think our Tendencies are are I feel like are pretty easy to guard you know we we
Don’t have a whole lot of guys that we rely on to score the ball uh We’ve we’ve got a couple of guys I feel like and so when you shut those OP down I feel like it’s it’s a it’s an easy way to to get a victory Justin how much of this was
Predictable and this is just spitballing here it hit my hit my mind a moment ago couple years ago in 2021 this team had similar offensive had a similar offensive look when they were losing right then they turned the keys over to Quinton Jackson and it became a
One-man show last year I don’t think it was a oneman show but when way Taylor was super hot he carry them and then they became extremely hard to to guard but that offense has really been that since the Q Jackson run it’s been a guy who you know can attack the rim in
One-on-one basketball and again this year you got two guys that can do it obviously boots has been there the the last couple years when he’s on he’s on but it becomes all right just take away the oneman show and make them beat you elsewhere and and I’m wondering if if we
If some of this could have been predicted because of the way they play their basketball yeah I would say so um and it’s it’s it is predicted the further you get along in the season because you are who you are and so you are who you
Put on film and so what you’re putting on film is is who you are and so um I think it’s predicted in that way um and look you know teams uh I’m watching the uh I’m I’m rewatching the ANM Tennessee game last night and I’m noticing the
Backside help uh something you tell your your your players not to do is what Tennessee was doing but it’s just because um we can’t score the ball um on the backside and what I mean by that is we have they have five guys with their head pointed towards Wade Taylor or
Pointed towards boots and that you want you want your defensive players to have their head on a swivel because they’re looking around and seeing what’s on the back side but right now teams aren’t having to care about what’s on the back side they’re just saying hey put put
Ever 10 eyes on Whoever has the ball that’s way Taylor boots Put 10 eyes on him and just know that that Ball’s probably not going to leave his hand and if it does we’ll live with the result of a skip to the backside and a shot from
Back there and so I think that’s just what teams are realizing hey let’s just stack it’s kind of like in football you stack the box right if if teams running in basketball it’s like hey load to the ball make them skip the ball and make Jace Carter make Hayden make whoever’s
On the backside make them make threes and uh once they start doing that they’ll they’ll change but we haven’t been able to do do anything about that there’s a lot of pressure on those guards weigh and Boots um the last couple games they have I mean really
During this four game losing streak they haven’t been at their best but really these last couple they’re averaging what 11 12 and a half points a game what is what is different yeah I I think just that I think um you know teams are saying you
Know hey we’re going to put second and third level Defenders on these guys we we’re going to try to make sure that boots doesn’t get to his left hand you know we know how lethal he is whenever he does get to his left hand and um you
Know Hey listen we’re not going to foul Wade Taylor uh we’re just going to contest his shots and be vertical and make him have to make tough shots and um again on that second and third level Defender and so um I think something that that’s tough I think boots is the
Only one that I would say that I feel like finishes extremely well around the rim he can make kind of those circus type shots around the rim and he finishes really well around the rim you know Wade has to shoot more of his floater and stuff like that but honestly
Whenever you’ve got second and third level Defenders loading to the ball it’s really hard to even get to your to your floater because you can’t really get paint touches and so I think that that’s been really tough for our for our guards you’ve coached before and I’m going to
Ask Tom shuu tomorrow some of the same kind of line of thinking but I know it’s not as simple as I make it so with all respect to the coaching staff I struggle with the amount of three point point shots this team shoots I also recognize
That might be the only way they get a shot off with the way teams are covering them help me understand though a team that shoots 27% from three shoots over 33s in a game like I just I don’t know what other options they have I’m being
Very that that might be the way to go about it but I I take it all the way back to the Penn State game last year like why are we shooting threes when we’re not that good of a three-point shooting team we’re a hot three-point shooting team help me understand how
They can get some shots off that aren’t necessarily three-point shots well you got you got to play transition basketball you got to play faster um and you know some of these other teams like you look at the Alabama of the world the Kies and and they do it
Now they also shoot uh you know a high percent Kentucky shoots a high percentage of Threes um and makes a high percentage of Threes so um but they also play faster and so to me I think that’s the deal you just got to play faster you
Got to try to get out and run because look if if boots and Wade if if if the defense is setting up and and and you know loading to the ball as much as they are now and not allowing weade and boots to get downhill well then you got to try
To create opportunities before the defense gets set um and so how do you do that you try to capitalize off of steals off of turnovers and just get in transition and go go go um look there’s no other way around it otherwise you’re going to play half court basketball and
That’s just not the style of basketball that we want to play right now I just I I I don’t understand it uh from probably the same same way you don’t understand it I I don’t understand you know wanting to play half court basketball and rely on a high volume of Threes it just
Doesn’t make sense talking to Justin Lam here on texags radio another thing that I’ve noticed um I think it was the Tennessee game for sure I saw it in the Kentucky game but to that point you made there Justin like boots was attacking before the defense could set and that
Forces some fouls like if you wait till the defense is set they’re going to have a wall built around that the paint and it’s going to be impossible to get there and I feel like sometimes it looks erratic uh when Wade and boots are just going a 100 miles an hour downhill but
It was very effective yeah and I think what’s good too is like okay if we if we are going to shoot thre something that you got to think about too is whenever you’re attacking in transition defenses are kind of told to Sprint back and and and protect the paint first and then play
Out and so if they’re sprinting back to the paint and you’re attacking the paint well then when you do fan it out you’re going to have a much more open look than what we’re going to have in a half court offense you know um and so I I think
That that’s another you know giving our guys okay if we are going to shoot those threes let’s try to get more open looks than contested looks and I think in the half court because we dribble the ball to death it kills me to I mean we’ll just pound the ball to death just
Waiting for something to happen and the defense isn’t isn’t having to work um and so to me getting in transition getting downhill getting paint touches and then kicking out hopefully getting more you know uncontested looks than contested what do practices look like down the stretch as you’re getting closer to conference tournament NCAA
Tournament hopefully but it’s it’s a long shot at this point but hopefully they can get their way back into it what do these practices look like yeah I think the you know I think the agies are in a little bit different position than than what you want to be
At this time of the year um you know a lot of times uh practices are going a little bit shorter this time of year you’re trying to save your legs a little bit more uh you’re focusing on just like the finer details you’re not looking at the big picture as much anymore you’ve
Kind of you kind of honed in on everything and so you’re just kind of tweaking stuff here and there um but unfortunately these these I would say you know next 10 to 12 practices however many more that they have left until the till the conference tournament um are
Are big because you still have a lot of work to do and so um at this point in the year you don’t Coast is not the word you don’t want to Coast at this time of year but you just want to fine-tune stuff and unfortunately right now I
Don’t know what there is to fine-tune because there’s not much right now in this this these past two weeks that we’re doing it you know extremely well and so right now it’s almost like hey we got to figure out a a way to win these next four games and probably do
Something a little bit different than what we’ve been doing um and uh and so these practices probably are going to look a little bit different than some teams across the country that already feel like maybe they’ve punched their ticket to the dance talking to Justin Lam Justin another thing so offense has
Been a problem but maybe a bigger problem is their identity of being a really good defensive team like Tennessee now they’re a good team they’re going to shoot well but like 52% like that to to me some of the defensive what are you seeing defensively that maybe we haven’t seen when they’re at
Their best yeah I thought Tennessee again like I said watching it back last night I thought Tennessee um kind of push the ball a little bit and we weren’t there’s a couple plays that I didn’t feel like we sprinted back and transition I mean the the margin of error is so small in
College basketball when you’re not sprinting back in transition when you’re not getting to help like you’re supposed to I mean it’s the smallest detail you don’t hedge hard enough on a ball screen when you’re supposed to hedge you’re late to a ball screen uh you’re not staying attached to your Defender I mean
You could name all the things and you’re not if you’re not doing those things all it takes is just a half a second to be off and A team’s going to get a good look uh Dalton connect I felt like he was able to move freely we weren’t
Bumping him we weren’t making it hard for him um and and and to me um Tennessee they’re gonna they’re going to be able to clip a lot of those uh those video clips from last game and make a highlight tape I think they had 10 to 12
Dunks um and that to me was just embarrassing to see how many just highlight type plays that they had um and and I I don’t want to say that it’s it’s not that we’re playing hard but there just you just got to fine-tune the small details when when you’re not sprinting
Back in transition and and doing some of the things like I said I mean um you know people you know people can um take advantage of that how much of what we’re seeing is physical like physical offensive limitations how much of it right now during this stretch is here in
The mind in the brain you know I think there probably is some of that that’s hard to overcome when you’re on a losing you know stretch like this uh that’s definitely hard to overcome it’s real quick to uh get you know get beat down and that’s why you
Know you mentioned earlier about the practices that that was something that I always found really hard as a coach is you have that fine line of man we just lost four games do we get after it hardcore right now or do they need a little bit of more positivity you know
Do they what’s you know what’s going on and and unfortunately in today’s day and age there’s more you know it’s more of a mental game I feel like than than used to you know used to back in the day a team loses four games you’re just going to get back
And say hey we got to we got to practice harder well now because of how you know I feel like the the types of kids you’re coaching these days and things like that I feel like some of it is a mental game and so you’ve got to you got to try to
Figure that piece out a little bit who’s got to step up their game obviously we want to see boots and Wade get back to what they do and that makes a huge difference right but is there somebody else like um you know I think J Carter’s played well recently unfortunately it’s
Been because you know a couple blowouts to out of the last three games who who do you think needs to step up to be able to get this team back on track yeah I mean I would like to see um and this is not a knock on them to say
That they haven’t been but I would just like to see them maybe get to the next level and continue to elevate and that’s just Solomon and Anderson um just kind of be the the bash Brothers that we need them to be you know just kind of uh that
Energy and um you you know that that’s the thing about this team I just sometimes you look out there and you just are like hey like where’s somebody that’s going to you know light to fire under our guys you know and and um I think that that can be Solomon and
Anderson but I I would say if if there’s two people or that I would like to see kind of elevate their game over the next four four games is uh is Solomon and Anderson and I I think that they’re capable of that you know they’ve shown
It at spurts and so I I definitely think they’re capable with that so I’m looking at Anderson and um especially in the Tennessee game usually like I think he did so well during a big stretch of the year that it set like an unfair expectation for what like most college
Athletes are not going to give you college basketball players are not going to give you 14 to 16 rebounds in a game Anderson was doing it routinely outside of the Arkansas game and he did okay against bamama with his 12 boards but he had eight against Tennessee uh but
Wasn’t providing any offense there was a stretch where he was providing double doubles um and it just shows that if weight is off if booze is off and Andy ain’t carrying some kind of offensive load which we didn’t even think was possible before the season started then
Where are they going to get points yeah yeah you know I feel like um I don’t know what the deal is with Henry I you know I feel like and I’m kind of going off on a side note here but I I I do feel like we need to see what we saw
From Henry at the beginning of the year and you know there was a stretch in time where it felt like he was a little injured you know he’s coming off the bench and and stuff like that and so I just don’t know how much of that is
Still you know Weighing on him or you know what what that looks like but um he’s definitely a guy that I feel like too we’ve got to we got to get a little bit more out of him I mean you think about it some of our best games are you
Know obviously when Wade and when Wade and boots are playing well but when Solomon’s chipping in eight points and Anderson’s chipping in six points and and Henry has 12 points I mean we I feel like we’re really hard to to beat when when and that’s that’s tough to say too
Because that’s saying hey five guys have really got to be on their game but um unfortunately with the way that we play offense that’s just what it’s got to be and and we’ve got to have Solomon and Anderson shiing in well I’ll push back a little bit on Henry I think recently
He’s his numbers are significantly better uh but the problem I’m seeing with him and the whole team is free throws right in his last uh what is it 18 free throws he’s hit nine of them right he’s been 50% from the free throw line the last couple games blowouts that
Doesn’t matter but we’ve seen so many games that come down to the wire with this team but offensively 13 12 12 and N so he’s he’s starting to get closer back to what but if weight and Boots aren’t giving you 20 each then he’s got to be
Closer to the 15 to 20 right yeah absolutely he does um and uh you know he when like you said getting to the free throw line I think sometimes that’s tough because when when they almost feel like an empty possession or you feel like it’s a turnover because
You’re missing shots at the free throw line I mean that’s tough too and so a lot of the times we do feel like we have a positive we get to the free throw line we get fouled um and then you feel like you just go empty from the free throw
Line and that can’t happen so let’s make a case like make a case for this team not not for the committee but for what the resume could look like if they figure a couple things out I’m not saying like do they have to win out in
Your eyes do they can they what is it four games left can they you know win three like what do you think I think they got to win out I really do um the the tough thing is we don’t have besides the South Carolina game at home um I
Don’t know that we have do we have another quad a q1 on the schedule I don’t think so but Mississippi state’s playing at a pretty high level recently that’s right so um yeah so to me I feel like you’ve got to win out um you definitely got to take care of South
Carolina um at home and then um I wish we had a Florida left on the schedule or somebody like that you know um that could again kind of boost the resume but um I I don’t think that that’s the case and so the only other thing that’s tough
Too is sometimes I feel like uh you don’t really get rewarded for winning conference games you know like or Conference tournament games is what I mean um and so um to me that’s I I feel like you’ve got to win these next four games and and then obviously you’ve got
To do some work in the conference tournament but sometimes I feel like those get a little bit more overlooked than than the regular season well if you if you went out you’re 10 and8 right would that be 10 and eight am I right am I doing the math right 10 yeah you’re in
The tournament right like Nick put put the standings up um and let’s take a look at the standings if you don’t mind because like if eight to nine teams make the uh make the tournament and at this point I don’t know if eight or nine teams are going to get in the tournament
But if you get to Nine and Nine you’re going to be one of the top nine teams in the SEC uh the thing that’s going to hold you back is this recent stretch right it’s certainly going to hold you back but if you’re at 9- n if people are
Talking about Mississippi State making the tournament at 9- n you probably beat Mississippi State yep yeah I agree so if we if we win out are you saying you think that we’ll be in the top what did you say you think we’ll be in the top what uh if you win
Out you’ll be in the top eight yeah you’ll be in the top and if you go nine and N you still might be in the top eight it’s just going to depend who the other teams are because you do have a you split with LSU um and you kuy’s not
Going to be nine and N I guess Mississippi State in that world more than likely you beat Mississippi State so if there is a tie there um you you’ve got that Mississippi State at 8 and six is looking like they’re going to be even better than you know they’re probably
Going to be at least a 10- win team yeah I I know that looking at lardy’s predictions which whatever you want to say there but like he keeps going back and forth between seven and eight teams of what he thinks is going to get into
The SEC tournament so I really um yeah I think you have to win out for sure to to get to that eighth if we’re going to be that eighth and last team that gets in from the SEC tournament nobody likes this question because you don’t want to
Go on record I don’t want to go on record but if you you had to guess right now do they make the tournament I’m going to say yes I’m going to say we win out and I’m going to say that yes we’re going to make the
Tournament wow I don’t know I’m be I’m gonna be positive I think they can get the Nine and Nine I do I think they can get the Nine and Nine they can right they can get the 10 they can get to 10 and eight but I think nine and N is
Attainable and then they’re going to need some help in the tournament to get in yeah I I’m I’m you know what’s funny I I like our how we match up against South Carolina the one game that I’m worried about I know people are going to say you know Mississippi state is
Playing well and they are um but I think the one that I’m a little worried about again is Old Miss oh yeah I think that I’m I’m a little worried about that one they have so much length um they were able to block a lot of our shots and and

Would just like to say that we all know it’s pretty much common knowledge now that they’ve won their last three games against teams ranked inside the top six that was number six Tennessee number six Kentucky this season and then number two Alabama to end last season but you may
Be wondering Luke South Carolina isn’t ranked in the top six they’re ranked 20th yeah tell me more well I’ve got an encouraging stat for you against any ranked teams ranked 1 through 25 Texas A&M has won their last five home games that’s just within the last two years on
Top of those three top six wins they also beat number 15 Tennessee and number 23 Missouri and I don’t really have anything else to say other than it’s a home game against a ranked opponent A&M has won the last five regardless of how the season is going and I think they’re
Going to get up for this South Carolina game South Carolina is a good team they’re not playing to the level that they were to start SEC play but nonetheless they’re a good team I just still think that Texas A&M is going to show up for this one power and
Positivity Luke you see how much better you feel about yourself after saying I just manifest I manifest talking me back in yeah like I think we’re all in I think we’re going to like I we might win by 31 points we better we I hope we

Down recently Joanie uh how are things and how do we get back on track hey how are you um yeah up and down would be it I think that’s what happens when you lose your point guard who is also 17 points a game and so we’ve you know been trying to figure
Figure things out without and that’s what we’ve got to continue to do we were able to do that at home versus Arkansas um and then went on the road and played a really stingy defense in Auburn has pressured us and just it bothered us all
Day long so so we were off yesterday and we’ll get back at it today we got two more games to finish things out and we’ve got to you know figure that out without India Rogers we had Justin Lam who used to coach uh on the program earlier and he’s like sometimes at the
End of the season the right methodology depending on the on on the uh veterans on the team is to take some time off right like not necessarily days off but like get your body right how much of that is is in play for your team right now well you know what’s challenging is
Our buys this year came in the first weeks of January back to back and so we had our by- weeks in and we gave them a ton of time off because we knew we were going to be looking at a grind of the end of the year last week was also a
Three- game schedule for us during the week and so it’s kind of the schule schedule we were handed where we are now we we modify as we need to that’s why our strength and conditioning coaches and our trainers are so good for us because they they manag load and we’re
Able to modify players based on their load based on their minutes to try to take care of them and make sure they’re feeling as good as possible talking to Janie Taylor here on Tex aags radio what’s the the latest with India how’s she doing she had surgery last Tuesday um
She has been doing really well in rehab and so um we are hoping that we will see her again at some point this season when that is I don’t know well that’s uh at least there’s there’s a hope there’s still a hope for that that to be the
Case how do you corre how do you clean up the turnovers obviously not having your point guard there it’s going to but 29 against Auburn that that that was obviously not a number you wanted to see no not at all because Auburn is a team
Who you know can SLE to score If you defend at a high level but we gave them points off of turnovers and and points in transition and that was directly related to um careless mistakes we were making you know everybody has injuries so having an injury is not an excuse the
Timing about our just isn’t good to lose your point guard at the end of the year when you are also trying to close out a season to put yourself in position to be in the NCA tournament to have good seating in the SEC tournament and now you’re having to adjust without you know
A FYE senior who is the reason why you don’t turn the ball over and also you have to make up 17 points a game so the hill we climb right but it’s it’s a hill everybody climbs at some point I think for us we’ve got to be better about um
Getting to spots faster our point guards had a lot of heat on in Sunday and at times we didn’t um Sprint to screens and get things set up as as as quickly as we could have so it’s a shared responsibility to answer your question our point guards have got to be better
Um and then our our other players have got to get open and they’ve got to be open when they’re supposed to be open and take some heat off of our Le guard excuse me for asking the talk show host of me just wants to know I know you have
To focus on Tennessee uh the next game at hand but how much of the conversations are about the NCAA tournament or is that not even something you worry about at this point well you don’t if you don’t take care of Tennessee and Alabama and have to run the tournament there is no
Conversation about the N tournament so again like is it in your mind sure it’s not anything we talk about with our team because for our team it’s what’s in front of us because you’ve got to handle what’s in front of us to to get there
You know we’re not in a position to say hey we’re in so these games determine feating we’re trying to get in you know last time I looked we were the last four in and that was before our game on Sunday so I don’t know where that puts
Us now are we on the bubble are we out you know are we in the playin game um but for us and our team it’s what’s in front of us and that’s how this team handles information best and that’s how we have approached things with them every team’s different we’ve focused a
Little bit on some of the struggles but what about recently that maybe you’ve liked what are some things that you’ve seen on the court you’re like all right I see where we’re going here yeah I think defensively we stepped up the last couple of games we’ve held
You know even in our loss to Vanderbilt they had 49 points you know offensively is where we’ve got to get some things going and figured out it’s the same thing against the Arkansas team that is the third um highest uh points per game in our league go to Auburn and and do
Well defensely so our defense has continuing to stand which is something that I’m excited about I think we’ve done a good job of getting our um sending people to the was a problem for us earlier in the year and I think we’ve done a good job of addressing that not
Letting people get to the free throw line at the rate in which they were um prior prior to the start of the SEC season I also think you know we’ve got some players back soay came back and was a huge boost for us offensively against Arkansas and so again getting a good
Flow um with some of our um bench players that could knock down some shots and open things up for us is vital in these last couple of games as well what is your methodology in game for not allowing one bad quar to become two bad quarters like and making sure that
Players have a short-term memory it’s something we talk about every single day in practice it’s not anything that you can wait until the moment comes and think you have a solution for us it’s not something that you’re constantly talking about so we have catchphrases we have sayings we
Have things that hopefully snap us out of what just happened and can move us in the right direction sometimes that happens faster than others depending on the person or if it’s a team thing um but that we all know those mantras we all know those things it is just you
Know repeated quotes and monsters that are constantly talked about in the film room in practice and in games and so those are the things that we go to and then we we really believe in trying to get to neutral in the sense of like let’s not get too high whether we had a
Really good quarter or let’s not get too low like what’s the next best thing we can do what’s right in front of that’s the next best thing we can do and that’s what we try to focus on sometimes it works better than others Janny get us ready for Tennessee a team you had
Success with early the earlier this season there at Reed Arena a tough matchup I know that was one of those games where I think it was the third quarter you you all got super hot talk a little bit about that maybe it was the end of the second quarter excuse me but
Regardless talk about the match up with Tennessee well the first thing I’ll say is they’re a totally different team now than they were when we played in the fourth game of the season in January um they’ve got a first round draft pick Ria Jackson their 66 post player Tomar key
Who only played 14 minutes when they came to College Station and Reed Arena is now back in the starting lineup I’m not sure if our F’s familiar but she had blood clots in her lungs last year and to sit out all of last year so when we
Saw them here she was just getting herself back in shape and in the flow and now she’s over claiming at the game and so we’ve got to figure out how to maneuver her and get her away from the basket to open up some scoring opportunities for us they shoot it

Next level is there is there is there a motivation guy out there for you maybe that’s my problem I don’t have a motivational guy I don’t have somebody that I turn I’m like man it’s been a tough stretch let me pull up this video that always

Problem is the offense as inconsistent as it’s been all season long now your top two scores last few games haven’t been really that effective what what is going on with Wade’s game huh well I think just my opinion I think the fact that it’s coaches have figured out it’s
Pretty easy to scheme against A&M’s offense you know what’s coming you know there’s going to be a high post screen and they’re going to allow you know Wade and in Boots to kind of navigate and create and uh you know the you Tennessee just if you look at from the First
Tennessee game to the second Tennessee game they allowed Wade man- on man going to the to the hole last Saturday they were just blanked him and being physical with him and just really and you know by the second half Wade wasn’t even trying to to go to the to the rim yeah usually
When you run an offense like that you have a a sharpshooter sitting out there so if they have to come and help like Tennessee was kick it out knocks down to three you have to make a choice well there’s no choice right now stop Wade Taylor Whoever has the ball between

Much of that are we missing cuz I mean they are getting into the half court set and we know this is not a great scoring team in the half court set you know again most coaches will tell you if you’re not scoring in the half court you
Got to push the ball and try to up the tempo and get you know shoot before their defense is set up and you know I haven’t really seen that lately but the other you know the other T thing about it is the defenses always seem like
They’re back knowing we got to stop them they’re they’re giving up maybe some offensive rebound SS just to make sure they don’t let A&M score in transition because that’s the only way they can score yeah and I think to me uh what a buzz Williams team has done in the past
They were very good in live ball turnovers which creates the fast breaks they aren’t getting live ball turnovers for whatever reason and uh that is leading to the fact that the fast break points just aren’t there let let’s you know again this just popped into my head
So you know typically Buzz this year played a much tougher pre-conference schedule before Christmas so he wasn’t able to use the bench as much maybe legs aren’t where they are usually are at this time of year you hate to say it but it happens and and uh because of the way
They have to play defense to try to create those turnovers and and stop scoring you know maybe it’s just the fact that they don’t have the legs anymore because those guys played so many more minutes pre- Christmas due to the fact with the conference what the
Committee has told us for two years it’s the whole body of work and I wholeheartedly agree with that I know Tom kind of insinuated that maybe that buzz has lost the team I don’t think he’s lost the team mentally I do think it may be a legs issue and on the things
You talked about but also when there’s so much mental and physical Focus that Wade and boots have on every possession that takes a toll I mean they they can’t take uh a possession off and let somebody else create they they have the ball in their hands 90% of the time
So how do they get Henry who’s played better recently get him back to the Henry that we saw at the beginning of the Season who was routinely giving you a double double and and higher points I I wish I knew I mean I remember back in
I guess the first year Henry was here when they kind of made their run through the SEC tournament he was basically playing the five at that time in the tournament and really had a a good tournament and so I think Henry is still trying to figure out what his role is
Sometimes game to game possession to possession is he supposed to be down low he supposed to bring his guy out out front I I think Henry’s probably best with his back to the basket even though he is a little smaller but I think with his his bulk he’s able to make some
Things happen down there yeah I think and I noticed this in the Tennessee game there were long stretches of time in the offensive set where there was nobody in the lane no defensive player no offensive player and there’s absolutely no low post pressure there’s no Inside
Out game at all and uh and if that’s the case uh you know there there’s not a whole lot that a big man can do especially someone who’s six seven and a half and that goes back to like you said they’re trying to penetrate so they’re clearing out the lane you know because
We’re not an entry pass team and like you said then kick it back out or anything so guys I’ve harped on this for over a year it’s about a year too many three-point shots I I I recognize like sometimes this the only way this team is
Going to get a shot off but they’re not a three-point shooting team yet they shoot a lot of Threes so like you’ve coached like do you see why they’re doing it you know I I can only say this I’m I’m still a big proponent I watch a
Lot of games and I don’t understand you know we we go to take the three they they defend it we get around we get penetration we get the nice little 10- foot jump shot that’s wide open but we continue to go to the goal I mean it’s
Just the basketball today I think is either you’re taking the three or you’re getting to the goal well we they’re letting us take the three because we’re that’s the shot we’re doing they’re giving us so I think that’s why it’s because it’s the open shot yeah and I I
Think it goes back to philosophy and makeup of of the roster and I think that’s something and and I know we’re not yet talking about the off season but there needs to be at least some uh analysis of how do you want to game plan
Do you want to go with the 67 68 guys that are quick on their feet that position L basketball or do you want to get a little more length and I think that’s part of the issue because there’s no low poost presence there’s no threat
Of a low poost presence is that in the end uh and then when they’re blanketing weight in in Boots there is no other option at the at the end of the shot clock it’s like hot potato who has the ball at the end okay you know heave up
The three-pointer right so I think that’s uh especially see at the SEC is that L the opponent’s length is really affected uh A&M on offens it’s uh one of the things I’ve noticed is the team doesn’t seem as connected I’m not saying um mentality wise but on the court
They’re not as connected uh and the physicality hasn’t been there recently either um you know as far as connected I I think part of part part of that is probably the disappointment you know it seems people aren’t as close when they’re not being successful a and so
Maybe that’s part of it maybe there is a little more sniping in the in the locker room we don’t know we’ll never know you know but I don’t I I just see there’s been times Wade’s facial expression used to never change I’ve seen more like Point not you know going out but like
Trying to be frustration I guess is the word I’m seeing on faces than I think I ever remember even when they weren’t winning the the years before this yeah uh I I think it’s just it’s a frustration that uh they’re having a hard time finding success and I think to
Me when I look back on it is that uh there’s not enough ball handlers on this team and I know if you look uh you know Bryce Lindsay is supposed to be someone that was going to help in that in that manner uh I don’t think there’s any
Freshmen that have contributed uh this year some of that was by Design they brought in some guys that were going to red shirt and they knew they were because they had a veteran lineup but still um you know you’ve got two ball handlers on this team and that’s it but
You know going back to that my question is and I I stole this from Billy and Dalton came in at 8 this morning so I talked to them a little bit do you really red shirt anymore in basketball because if you’re red shirting a guy he’s probably there’s a good chance he’s
Leaving no matter how much they like it because they think no matter what you tell kids coming in they think they’re the ones that’s the is the answer hop I think to that point I do think Buzz recruits typically a different kind of guy that they kind of know what they’re
Signing up for uh that could change is Success that needs to be followed by success and they’re not having the success this year that that usually happens with yeah well I think in regard to a couple of those freshmen it was by Design they came in some of those guys
Were early graduates that came came in and so I think that they wanted to get them integrated into how they did things so when June came around they’d be ready to hit the gr ground running at least mentally but but but you know it’s you know there there’s so many moving Parts
In basketball now well in all college sports is that what do you do do you do you hit the transfer portal hard and go old do you try to develop players well and like you said if you try to develop players if they get frustrated do they
Leave and it’s it is a hard it is a hard hard job to it’s everything is in flux yeah it’s just difficult when you recruit a kid no matter how much you tell them hey look you know you’re going to be sitting behind this kid you know
They’ve always played I mean that’s the reason they’ve been told and all a sudden they’re actually coming and sitting I don’t think there’s one kid that’ll tell you he shouldn’t be on the floor more than he is is you know is not it it’ll be interesting to see just in
College basketball in general coming up because uh this next year is the last covid year the last year of the last guys that can filter through and then you’re going to start seeing teams getting younger and it’ll be interesting to see how that transitions but that’s a

And it’s a big if I mean they’ve lost four in a row what does a victory tomorrow do for the way you look at the rest of the season well if they if they win uh I think uh you’re you’re I mean they’re not out of the woods by any shot
I kind of see these last games are really tossup games the the the more difficult games are at home yeah and uh well none of them are easy but they’re they’re they’re certainly winnable games they’re it’s not a Alabama or a Tennessee or an Auburn those are games
You can win and so I look at it is they’ve just got to get right mentally physically and get back to you know their style of basketball and get on a roll I I don’t think it’s anything that I think there’s an opponent out there that can stop
Them they will stop themselves these last four games you know I just want to see some Smiles on their faces they see seem to play better when they’re having fun and going back to connection and having fun with each other out there and and uh it’s been a grind for them and
You’re right they just have to have some success and a win tomorrow certainly I think most importantly they got to look at that win total if they were looking to go beyond you know and so it went and that helps that tremendously is tomorrow a must win if they’re going to make the
Tournament do they have to win tomorrow yes I mean they’re out of Runway right uh I mean I know that a lot of people are talking N9 and N uh that they’re at least in the discussion because of their non-conference strength of schedule but
I mean if you if you lose five in a row and then the last three games are tossup games it’s hard to to to at at least realistically think that they’re going to magically turn it around on the road and win three in a row but the committee
Has already told us that eight games in a row doesn’t matter winning you know so again to me we would like to think that but we know once they get in their room they’re well they’ve Lo they lost six games in a row in the middle you know
And so you would like it they they can’t afford to lose or it better be come down that they look very good and lose at the end on the road if they win four in a row right let’s say they get the 10 wins does that you think get them in the
Tournament for sure yes yeah no question you feel that way but I still think there’s a and maybe I got my my maroon glasses even though I you know not a true Aggie you know there’s a biased against I just I don’t know if they’re upset that buzz wrote that letter two
Years ago or whatever else but I just still think that that committee has something against that well I think uh on the Counterpoint to that SEC has pretty good standing this year it’s pretty strong this year and so there most people projecting uh anywhere from seven to
Nine uh spots and A&M if they can win these last four I think definitely puts them up there because their strength of schedule is so much greater than Old Miss Mississippi State those type of teams that they’re will be battling for those spots who has to step up we know
Wade has to step up we know boots has to step up but for those guys to step up I feel like somebody else has to be a real offensive threat well you know quietly over the last even though we’ve been through a losing streak quietly Jace
Carter has uh and to me and I’ve mentioned this before on the show is that the key to Jace Carter is getting him open shots and Rhythm and the s that they’ve done that which they’ve done a few times in the last four games he’s making them I think he’s made multiple
Threes in his last four or five games and he’s shooting over 40% in that time so uh he’s certainly someone that’s that’s come on uh but the key is is that you got to get weade and boots to be able to create enough to kick out so
He’s open you know we talked about him earlier I think since you took Jace I’m going say Henry you need Anderson and and solo to do what they do defensively and rebounding and then Henry’s got to step up and get get some points for us you think if they win tomorrow just for
The locker room all right here we go let’s finish strong just one game can make that much of a difference uh you know with this team I don’t know because every game is such a grind yeah I mean it’s it comes down to the last possession or two uh almost
Every game other than Tennessee and Alabama and um and I think you know Buzz has this mentality of hey I don’t care what happened last week I don’t care what’s going to happen next week we’re going to grind for this game so I don’t know uh it’s hard to say you know I’m
Going to say there’s pressure on them for these four games but there was pressure on them almost every game in conference last year you know so they’re accustomed to this and so maybe this pressure is just going to be you know do they relax between games we don’t know
But they seemed ready to play last year and I have confidence Buzz will get them ready this year yeah you know and if you want to look for some optimism uh against South Carolina you know South Carolina you they lost by 40 points on
The road to Auburn a week and a half ago and they’re coming off we’ve talked about the schedule this is their back to their second of back-to-back Road games so we’ll see maybe A&M can catch a break on this the way the schedule’s lined up
