After all…I’m Semi-Retired, Talking about Hockey with YOU!!!

[Laughter] is frustration on the power play mounting and that’s goes hand inand with what Bob was alluding to there and I I wanted to show you first of all not it’s I’m not speaking specifically about the the power play here uh and it’s something that’s been coming up on on

Social media quite a bit and it’s circulated mostly around a comment that was made by uh Grant mcag uh where he said you can see the Slavs starting to get frustrated with mat he just doesn’t want to feed him on the power play even though it’s often his best option when

We look at we we look at the situation coach uh let’s talk a little bit about about the power play because that’s one area that we have seen some improvement from the beginning of the year which is a good sign and I think a lot of it has

To do with the fact that they solidified their number one line and they also started to play some of the players on the on the correct uh spots in terms of uh their 131 or or or sometimes the the the whole umbrella concept that they’re utilizing what you’re seeing a lot of

Times and you know Justified or not I just wanted to sort of open up this conversation and see what you think uh I’ll throw in my two cents worth as well and most importantly let’s see what the chat thinks and if whether they’re seeing the same things but clearly

You’re starting to see that there is some some tension between slavoski and maton that sort of reached the new Peak um frustration has has sort of been ongoing now is that frustration generated towards these two individuals or is it generated towards the fact that the PowerPlay maybe hasn’t worked at the

Clip that they would like it to uh be uhic icient that so yesterday we saw as the as the match progressed um that you know at one point there there was a a point where Sosi afterwards was very sort of ticked off as he was going back

To the bench and he slammed to stick again it’s not the first time that we’ve seen that with him I I think as an aside this is one area that I think the management sort of has to address like I like passion in a player as well as in a

Coach but when it becomes too persistent and we were seeing it with Bedard a little bit earlier in the year what before his injury we seen it with a couple of other players as well Pinto just recently as well in Ottawa you know now a little bit more so with Sosi uh

With them getting upset and smashing their stick against the boards again the passion is good but it has to be tapered I I think that that’s where having people uh that are veterans on the team have to sort of step in as leaders and sort of you know take that player aside

And sort of uh you know calm him down and sort of bring them into into the proper perspective of what what they’re supposed to be doing and that the frustration only tends to increase if you get too overly invested in it so you need to remain calm in these cases and

Not let the tension override you does it actually happen I don’t know I it’s it’s difficult for me to say coach I if you’re looking at it just from an objective perspective you do see that mat does tend to favor the left side a little bit more which is where you’ll

Find usually um coal and you’ll find also uh Suzuki uh on on those two sides I do see that part of it and I see a little bit less focus on the right hand side which is where Sosi is is sort of playing and he’s seing that frustration because I think

Other teams the defense that’s on at the time the penalty killing unit that’s on is sort sort of cheating and cheating to their right which is to our left if if you’re uh from looking at the play from mat’s point of view uh so what’s happening is he’s seing I have a

Clear-cut shot here and I’m not getting the pass from mat now mat is is you know I mean he’s not a stupid player he’s he’s the best we have at that position right now let’s let’s call a spade a spade I mean I think that he does a a

Decent job right now on the power play is it ideal no I think we could still get better and maybe that’s in the form of of a Hudson or Logan meu as they come in into the system and into the fold but for now this is what we have and I think

That there has to be a little bit more understanding to sort of uh make sure that this this sort of situation is sort of alleviated uh it’s something that I think U Martin St Louie has to sort of look at a little bit and in some way

Shape or form needs to address with if not with the players because maybe there’s nothing happening then definitely with the the media right because uh sometimes whether they’re doing it for sensationalism they’re trying to highlight this and make an issue out of something that may or may

Not be true we also forget sometimes you know slavoski is still very young player and a lot of times when the puck goes to his side he does turn it over from time to time and so that could figure into the reason why you might see two or

Three passes to the left side versus the right side where does this take us and sort of where where do we want to put this I mean I’ve seen an improvement in the in in the power play overall uh even though they’re still towards the bottom of the league I think they’re they’re

Around uh just around 18 and a half% if I’m not mistaken but it’s an improvement from where they were at the beginning of the year and that to me spells efficiency to a certain degree or at least Improvement maybe not efficiency but improvement from what they were at and I I I think

That overall it’s something that we should keep our eyes open to but uh I don’t know how much of a making it such a big case sometimes and and here we are making it the headline of the night sometimes is is frustrating on the players it’s frustrating on hearing

Different opinions that are floating out there I don’t know thanks for watching another AB Daily News video of the day with the hockey coach your Cod friendship but before we leave guys we invite you don’t forget please to click on the like subscribe to the hin show

And leave us a comments about this episode and of course remember you add greatness inside of you I

  1. It has been clear for awhile now, that Matheson continues to move the puck to the side Caufield and Slick Nick are on. Slaf can be wide open and he continues to look him off.

  2. I have been saying this for over a month its not only Mathersson its Cole Caufeild aswell and its been going on befor Slavskovsky did his one-timer goal a while back .

  3. I'm pretty sure there's no drama other than one that has been created by McCagg. Slaf has been a top line player for like 3 months. It makes sense that Matheson is leaning more on our veteran captain and leading scorer and a proven trigger man like Caufield. Give it a little time…not to mention the PP is working relatively fine as it is.

  4. It's interesting, I hope the Canadians can bring up 2 of the defense from Laval as soon as Laval season is over or they want to import university players to Laval,.but is the best one even allowed in to the NHL yet. ?? From what I've seen they have a powerplay point in the making down there.

  5. It's the Coaches fault.
They have no idea how to enter the zone on the PP and what's worse they always do the same thing.
Pass back to Suzuki and hope he doesn't lose it at the blue line…
    Lmao.
They have the most goals scored on them during PP…
They keep doing the sane thing…
Lose the puck at the blue line and they are off to the races.
THIS IS ON ST LOUIS AND GORTON FOR NOT KNOWING.
WHO IN THEIR RIGHT MIND HIRES
    A LEADER/COACH WITH NO EXPERIENCE?
He doesn't give much credit the coaching profession if he thinks no experience is a qualification.
The whole lot of them need to be fired.

  6. There is no drama 🙂 But I think that was with Slaf from beginning, even if he was in perfect position to pass, the players pass to nonsense position and Habs lost the puck, but now also the Suzuki started passing to Slaf more and more and you see great results, becouse they realised how good he is, the same realised the opnents so they defend him during powerplay with two players so Matheson have to pass to other players, but belive me more Slaf goals and assist from Slaf will come, greatings from Slaf and Habs fan from Slovakia 🙂

  7. waaaaay too much speculation here. Trying to create stories that don't exists so you have something to talk about. thumbs down on this one

  8. Let's see, hockey players on a team that's not going to the playoffs,… 😄
    Smile boys!

they still have to put on their monkey suits and give you a good show.. 👯‍♂️👯‍♀️👯

they're not allowed to be pissed?
You're going to overanalyze and micromanage that also?

This has been a tough season for this team, they don't need babysitters or people using the word "appropriate"

There's more coming out about why hockey players don't want to play in Montreal. Because of the fans

and you're just playing into that with this.

    C'mon

    Dont turn into spittin chicklets…
    🙄

  9. Well, you are not the only one , who had noticed that!!! I dont think its kind of tension, maybe just selfish act, as you mentioned, he is not stupid, so its higher probability to get point if he passes to Suzuki or Caufield

  10. I noticed it too and was wondering WTH. Many times Matheson should have passed to Slaf and he didn't. GREAT POINT

  11. There is no gray zone. It has been obvious and infuriating. Either it's part of the set plays and Slaf is somehow not aware of, which is a very long shot?? Either Matheson has very little vision which is also a very long shot, or Matheson has zero confidence in Slaf and is afraid of turnovers. This has to be addressed asap between both players and the coach because it could become an issue. I totally understand Slafs frustrations. I sometimes feel like throwing the controller on my TV lol.
