Club is Thomas camoy of Belgium here’s the first page of the competitors in this is the jumping order at each of the heights that the athletes will choose to come in at the bar is due to be set at 2 m 15 for our opening jumps wait and see if all of the
Competitors try the early Heights that completes the 12-man lineup Shelby MC will be the last to Go progression of the bar 215 then up to 220 224 228 31 34 and 36 if we need to get there but the athletes so far this season have been performing the best performers so far this season on the World list in the 233 region so the arena Falls silent at the
Moment as we get ready for the start of the relay and The Cone is about to be removed for our first competitor at this opening height of 2 m 15 which will be Olive doruk as I mentioned a personal bestest already this year set at the popular
High jump meeting in Slovakia the bank bitka meeting well rank number 16 been performing in the high 220s mostly this year and Cod is away the jump clock is running we’re about to get underway in the men’s high jump final here at the world Athletics indoor championships Glasgow 24 with his opening height of 2 m 15 for Doruk and no bother gets one under the belt nice and early just having a look at the uh the scorecard that’s coming up on our computer here it does look like the only man who’s passing at this early height is the defending Champion Wang of Korea everybody else at the moment scheduled
To take on this height and Yan stfa of the Czech Republic one of the small number of athletes who will approach from the left hand side we’ll go [Applause] next the officials doing a a great job out there in a very no the arena to communicate with each other particularly as Great Britain Northern Ireland are in action on the track at the moment the volume in the arena is a little bit louder than it might be on average as we
See staa 22-year-old the 2021 European under 23 Champion but is opening attempted 2115 no took off too far away I think there just getting his strike pattern ironed out in the early Stages won’t see so much from this angle but we might see from a a side on angle he just seemed to launch himself from just a little bit too far away they’re coming down on the [Applause] bar so next to go will be Thomas caroy of Belgium his best this year as I mentioned 221 World ranked number 11 in the world Athletics rankings at this early height this performances so far this year Thomas cmoy 221 came in the meeting in hust pet
In Czech Republic which again is another of those meetings that attracts the very best of the men’s High jumpers caroy just waiting at the moment for the cone to be removed Belgium have had a successful championships as well with Alexander Doom a slightly surprising winner of the
Men’s 400 m is maybe not that surprising to him and his team but maybe those who were expecting kaston barholm of Norway to win that event Alexander Doom catching him on the line so still just waiting at the moment out there the cone is still down I think the officials are just
Waiting for the Relay to conclude here because the arena is extremely noisy I’m not sure they can communicate with each other that easily out there so the arena noise will now calm down as Great Britain and Northern Ireland’s women in the 4×400 M Heats come across the line
In first place to qualify for the final later and with that conclusion of the relay we do now get the cona away for Thomas Carmo after his patience in the shake up for medal today no doubt about it I will have to improve significantly on his season’s best to somewhere nearer
What he’s capable of 215 he also so tickles it off with his opening Attempt so caroy joins stfa in failing of this first height next to go will be the Evergreen Donald Thomas of Bahamas at 39 years of age the 20 seven world champion outdoors and here we are 17 years later still competing in World Championships and still clearing 2 m 15 with his opening
Effort says he’s still hungry he’s still believes he can go and win an Olympic medal later on in the year does Donald Thomas still trains fulltime he’s based in the Alabama in the US now self coaches himself with a bit of property business I think on on the side as well
One of a six-person Bahamian team as you can see some of the great stats that we’ll be able to bring to you over the course of this high jump Edo Rivera of Mexico one of the more experienced in the field 33 years of age been struggling to hit some of his better
Form it’s taken him to 231 his personal bestest goes back 3 years here he goes with his opening height of 25 no problem for the Mexican he’s one of three Mexican athletes here taking part there was a bit of disappointment for uzel Muno actually in the shot put who finished
Well down the field when possibly a live chance of getting Mexico medal we’ll see how Rivera the second of the Mexican field Athletes so we got three athletes clear and heish kerr the Commonwealth Games champion last time he competed in a major championships here in the UK at Birmingham 2022 very solid Start again New Zealand really have had a good championships Tom Walsh a good friend of heish K taking the silver medal in the men’s shot put completing 10 years of Medal success for New Zealand zby Hobbs ran two national records in their relatively small 10 person team as well in the
Women’s 60 M akamatsu of Japan twice the Asian indoor Champion including this year actually as well 2 m 30 his best coming Outdoors last summer in his homeland in Tokyo he is jumper number seven to attempt this H with four clears so far and woo the defending Champion the one to pass Taking his time running his jump clock down to about 15 seconds attacks it tickles it but it stays On he’s catching it with his cares got maximum five jumps left in the trip JP final for the championship of the world Jack at the moment outside of the medals so no major alarms so far Andre protsenko became the 12th person in history to clear 2 m and 40 cm going
Back to 2014 10 years ago was when he hit his Peak but as you can see there still World ranked number 12 some 10 years later goes here goes protsenko the 35y looking to join doruk his teammate over this early Bart again took off way too far away
There we see that again from in front of the bed you see the distance that he didn’t get close to the bar let’s put it that Way United States we will see Vernon Turner of the USA the NCAA champion from 2022 first one to engage the crowd here who are looking for things to get involved in here goes Vernon Turner his first Global championships gave a little bit of a wriggle didn’t he over the bar but he
Got over with a bit of a glance and ver Turner so we’re getting towards the end of this first Round Norbert kilki of Poland World ranked number eight 225 this year but in solid form that came in his homeand of Holland in woods and no kobelski gave that the biggest clatter we’ve seen so far in the maxim J so we know so there you can see the list of
The six athletes who have cleared so far woo has passed all those without the distance next to them have failed so far we have one more athlete to complete their first attempts at 2 m 15 and it’s this man Shelby mccuan of USA who said his
Lifetime best of 233 at the meeting in h pets here in Europe in the Czech Republic last month carrying the US hopes and a very good start for Shelby mccuan confidence booster doesn’t matter how good of form you’ve been in when you come to a world championships and you’re
Looking to settle yourself down getting over your first bar is always a very useful way to do That so the uh attempts will move on to number two now here goes stepa straight in with his second attempt and that’s much better from the Czech Republic athlete there we go first bar cleared for him as well don’t forget if you’re new to maybe watching high jump which probably if you’re watching
This dedicated high jump stream maybe you’re not but for those for the benefit of those who are sometimes early failures can come back to count against you later on because an athletes are tied at a certain bar height then uh the number of failures on their card are taken into
Account to split them so failing an early height of 215 can be costly if you are going to be in the medal shake Up so step over at the second time of asking there are three more athletes who will have second attempts and the next one will be Thomas camoy of Belgium so TOS caroy in a little bit of early bother here with two failures at this early height of 2 m 15 this is the European indoor bronze medalist from the last two editions again not particularly close to that one as you can see There so caroy under pressure with his third attempt again it’s always uh worth having in the back of our mind that athletes may have some injury issues or similar that we’re not aware of but at the moment on the face value caroy disappointing proteno two-time Olympic finalist
Again he seemed to be a little bit uh taken off from quite a way away again that was closer than his first one but he’s another one who’s going to be under pressure with his third and final attempt at 2 minutes 15 the athlete who was the world bronze
Medalist in 2022 Outdoors behind Mrs aashim and woo European bronze medalist outdoors in 2022 in Munich the still who at list from these World indoor championships 10 years ago in Sook breno but with recent major games form to see him needing a third at 215 is somewhat of a surprise
Kobelski 225 as I mentioned his best performance of the year so far he’s already won his six successive polish indoor title and he’s going to need a third at 215 as well so this is what the world championships can do the competitive Arena the global stage the big Target of your winter
Could all of a sudden just start playing a few tricks with your mind with your Technique the tension in your body and kobelski also Under Pressure so we’re up to third attempts as you can see there those are the three athletes with the two x’s who have got
To get this to stay in the competition it will be a a big surprise to lose anybody at a the world championship field at this height but we’ve got three who are on the brink of It Thomas K has struggled at this height a couple of times already this year asking for the crowd to Bo to help him out here in the Arena Caro to keep his world indoor championships alive yes he does it it’s wobbling he seemed to come off a slightly shorter run there but he’s got it he’s just hobbling over slightly off the he’s hobbling actually away from uh you can see there some sort of
Strapping on his right ankle I think it’s clear that Thomas Carmo is not fully fit and that seems to be explaining why and that’s his his takeoff leg as well that he’s struggling with so well he’s pleased to still be in the competition from that point of view it’s
The first time we’ve seen of some physical discomfort from Thomas camoy but protsenko pro senko has dealt with so many clutch moments like this in this in his glittering career here’s another one yes protsenko gets it so digging deep into his experience there Andre protsenko clearly over that Bar lovely shots from our bar camera there to show you the clearance and the angle at which these athletes are getting over so kobelski has seen the two preceding him both clear and both survive in the competition kelki as Well and he does the same as well so quite a bit of sweat has been wiped from growls from those watching on of Ukrainian polish and Belgian supporting and you can see he’s giv that a bit of air much better from kobelski and now
The bar will move up to 2 m and 20 cm again looking at our computer I can see that Shelby mccuan of the USA has passed at this height of 2 m 20 so he’s obviously very happy with what he produced at 215 feels in a rhythm
Already and again at risk of adding failures to his card early on and wasting energy on Heights that he’s capable of achieving there’s Shelby mccuan happy to sit this round out so woo the defend leag Champion you to enter the competition at this sight there he is making his final
Preparations as we mentioned Ker’s only athlete in these championships carrying an entire nation’s expectations on his tall shoulders finished sixth actually Outdoors at the world championships in Budapest which was somewhat of a surprise he was in good form didn’t manage to make the podium in the world championships Outdoors but he is the
Highest ranked of the field we have here World ranked number four and woo on paper will be the favorite for this championships those among those looking to really push him all the way heish Kerr chasing his first Global gold medal has a Colm Games medal as we said a gold
Medal for those Nations who are involved in that it’s the biggest New Zealand team actually they’ve ever brought to a a world indoor championships with 10 athletes obviously the location around the world will have a big impact on that it’s quite a long track for New Zealand to
Glasgow so the clock is running at our new height of 2 m 20 and this is ALG dorik first to go with that season’s best and a new personal best of 2 m and 30 and doruk continues some very good early progress the 23 uh 22 year Old of course a silver medal for Ukraine already in the high jump competition with yaroslava mahu who had a great battle with Nicola olislagers of Australia mahu a perennial consistent Global medalist can Ukraine in the men’s high jump final continue that Yan stea of a very large Czech Republic team one
Of the largest teams actually there is here at these championships also in personal best form already this winter 2 m 30 this is 2 m 20 and a bit like it his previous height stfa will need a second Attempt so St will come back and now it’s time to see the defending Champion Wang hiok of Korea as we see World ranked number four which is the highest ranking of anybody in the field here Woo’s lifetime best performance is 2 m and 36 his season’s best performance
232 but in great form in the three competitions that he’s contested so far and the defending Champion opens with a solid clearance at 2 m 20 great sights there behind where the pack stands here at the Glasgow Arena morning sessions as we see again those fantastic stats that we’re able to bring you as part of our Innovative coverage here on the dedicated high jump stream Thomas Caro of Belgium he’s just out to correct his
Mind now let’s keep an eye on this right leg of his it’s got some strapping on it as we see him approach the bar he’s obviously got some issues out there taking three attempts to get over and again not looking comfortable at all the Belgian here it’s the way he comes off
The mat that gives us see just the idea that he’s not fully fit when you do come to a World Championships you do of course try and push through the pain we’ve seen athletes I saw in the 60 M hurdles yesterday aah Hobbs who was uh sorry the
60 m flat was really was limping very strongly and still tried to to contest it as we see Donald Thomas of Bahamas asking for the support from the arena still World ranked 13 this is his first competition of the winter by the way he hasn’t contested at all in 2024 And Donald Thomas only need the second attempt at 2 minutes 20 this is his seventh appearance at a world indoor championships his first was in 2010 there’s only three athletes who’ve made eight appearances so that’s how much of a part of History he is sat mayor Manuel Martinez and his compatriot actually
From the bah was Chris Brown have made eight appearances there only been two old athletes at a world indoor championships Dan him fito Donato and Kim Collins were both 41 when they contested Edgar Rivera Mexico two time IO American championship winner slipped down the world rankings
In recent times now World ranked 27 this is his first attempt with a bar at 220 clean card for Rivera so Far plenty of plenty of air for Rivera over that One three clear as we move next to heish ker of New Zealand bronze medal in the world indoor championships last Time Around in fact he shared that bronze medal last time and he is successfully over 2 m 20 as well shared the bronze with tberry back in Belgrade in 2022 in the event
That was won by Woo the takeoff distance fascinating to see how those vary between events and how between the athletes I should should say and how they correlate between failures and successes as we see akamatsu the Asian indoor champion who actually beat woo in the Asian indoor championships the only time he’s beaten him that was last
Year’s Asian indoor championships he won it again this year but woo wasn’t competing he has a 10.9 second 100 m as well which might be why we see him really attack this he does use his speed across the uh the Raceway and is not that one off Hamstrings just tickling that one off so akamatsu will need a second attempt at 220 so still four athletes clear next to be next will be protsenko after those three attempts to get over his opening height of 2 m 15 the last Ukrainian men’s Global gold was
From bdan B bondeno Back In 2013 the year before protsenko won his world indoor silver in suppot in Poland bar up at 220 after three attempts at 215 For that wasn’t close attemp so never got higher than the bar there so there are now five athletes who will need a second attempt at this height remember Shelby mccuan of the USA has passed at this height of 220 which means that Vernon Turner of
USA will be the next to go was just outside the top 12 on the rankings actually ver he only got into this competition after the late withdrawal of the German Tobias POA through injury the USA they do name reserves in their team and Vernon Turner was a benefit of
That and ver Turner goes clear the way the US team do their selection you have to finish in the top two in the national championships to be eligible for qualification but if you’re not if you don’t have the required entry standard which for this championships is 2 m 34
Which Vernon Turner doesn’t have then you are relying on being in the top 12 on the world rankings which Turner wasn’t he was just outside it but the as I say the withdrawal of Poa then the uh the field opened up one more place to
The next in the line and that was Vernon Turner kobelski of Poland three attempts for him at 215 this is 220 and settling into his rhythm despite giving it a bit of a NCH so first attempts complete Now kabil got looks like he’s got a bit of an issue as well is he okay there’s one or two then out there that are evidently struggling that we weren’t aware of as we see and sta now moving to second attempts at this second height of 2 m 20
Six athletes clear at the first time thoros wo Rivera ker Turner and Kobelski there we go sta very Good so he’s taken a warm-up attempt at both of the opening Heights but ster is cleared on the second first attempt at 490 in the so Thomas caroy to see how his body is uh his body is shaping up Here we just having a bit of a rest as you would not sure how effective those uh jackets are as dues but it’s doing the job for him so here’s Thomas caroy again trying to push the mental thoughts of any discomfort he might be into the back of his mind to
Try and achieve this bar at 220 No you almost probably see that it’s not quite clicking for Thomas K by the way he Landing is that was Landing in the same slightly awkward halfway house position on the mat every time can’t quite see it with W maybe just see that strapping on his right
Ankle there you can see it that black strapping which is what is causing them that problem Donald Thomas back he comes at 2 m 20 took a major championship medal actually won the Pan-American games bronze medal in Santiago at the back end of last season oh was closer than his first one but not close enough yet to leave the bar on at 2 m 20 Just going through some final uh preparations by the bar just working things out Donald Thomas still thinks very studiously about the uh the event just making a slight adjustment to his uh his marks actually the marks that he’s hitting on the floor as you can see just moving it ever so slightly
Wider to change his angle of Approach as we see akamatsu of Japan finished eighth in the world outdoor championships in Budapest his indoor best at 228 was set last year this is his second attempt with the bar at 2 m 20 he does like to take most of the time available to him do akamatsu again his
Jump clock down into the uh final 20 yard seconds nakamatsu will need a a third attempt at 2 m 20 as well quite a lot of focus on these high jump athletes around the arena there the only thing that is uh ongoing at the moment around the arena is the dapon pole vault
So all eyes on the field now for these athletes some of the field event finals have been very early in the morning the the triple jump and long jump finals very early in the morning a high jump just before midday local time pretty manageable start time
For these athletes great to have lots of focus on them as we see protsenko second attempt here at 220 So we have four athletes now including preno who are going to need a third attempt at this height again similar to his first attempt that one never really got higher than the bar taking it off with his backside so protsenko making pretty heavy weather of these early bars first will be
Seven athletes clear at 2 m 20 and four more to have third attempts with mchu having Passed Thomas Carmo asking for the crowd support he’ll get more of it now there’s not much happening on the track in terms of other events to distract our Spectators so bit more support for the high jumpers now here goes Caro to stay in oh was close but not enough and
That’s the end of the competition for Thomas caroy of Belgium with his clearance a shame when you can’t come and deliver yourself to a World Championships fully fit and ready to achieve your potential that’s obviously the case with Thomas Carmo but let’s hope he gets himself fit and firing for
Bigger challenges in terms of the Olympic Games later on in the summer Thomas kmo one of those who still needs to achieve the Olympic qualifying standard which is 2 m 33 by the end of June Donald Thomas 39 years of age seventh World indoor championships former world champion to stay in
It oh and the adjustment that he made to his takeoff area or his angle of approach nearly paid dividends but unfortunately all the way from the Bahamas or from the US where he’s based but representing Bahamas Donald Thomas also exits the competition so frustration for Thomas
Whose uh Teenage children I know will be watching on bya one method or the other says there have been his biggest Inspirations they think he’s a superhero they’ll be proud of him either way so akamatsu two-time Asian indoor Champion finishing eighth in the world outdoor Final in Budapest last
Summer seasonal form has only managed 219 so this would be a season’s best but his best is 230 so again these are even in a winter training block these are Heights that you’d expect atam Matsu to be Making oh similar to Donald Thomas was close but close is no good if the bar comes down aam Matsu departs the competition as well so we’ve lost three of our 12 already at the second Bar we move back to Andre preno next also on his third and final attempt handled the pressure of his third attempt at 2 m 15 the world bronze medalist from 2022 no oh so protsenko goes as well those last three attempts were all about as close as each other this is
Probably the closest oh no he gave it a bit of a bit of a bump agonizing for Andre preno of course you just don’t know do you with the uh the best of your career not behind you cuz you mean he won a World Outdoor bronze medalist two years
Ago but certainly achieved his some of his best success a little while back you just don’t know when your next opportunity of the World Championships may Be so we’ve lost four at that height we’ve lost caroy of Belgium we’ve lost Thomas of Bahamas we’ve lost akamatsu of Japan and we’ve lost Lo protsenko of Ukraine Donald Thomas just reflecting big hopes for Bahamas of a gold medal later on on the track with the new world record holder actually in
The women’s 60 M hurdles Devon Charlton so could still be a good day for Bahamas Ken mullings also going very well in the Hep tlon at the moment as well for Bahamas but unfortunately for Donald Thomas not to be his day not to be akamatsu’s day either or protsenko so Ukrainian hopes
Will rest now with Al doruk 13 years the junior of his teammate Andre Protsenko there he is so Daruk 230 season’s best he is in the midal shake up if all goes well the bar just being put up as you can see there to our next height of 2 m 24 it will then go up to 28 31 and 34 if you’re joining us lat if we get to that Point so we saw woo having a bit of a kip a short while ago he’s woken from his Slumber because there’s a bar to be cleared at 2 m 24 next to go Shelby mccuan who’s a little bit more rested having passed at that previous height so only one jump so far for
Shelby MCU on his world indoor Championship debut he’s been to three Outdoor World Championships Selby McAn and an Olympic games but this is his first time competing on a global stage indoors there’s Vernon Turner the second of the US athletes man from Oklahoma National us Collegiate silver
Medalist both indoors and out last year beaten by the Jamaican Romain Beckford he’s a very handy long jumper actually as well Vernon turner He’s a 764 long jumper which is just below world class would get you into a lot of uh a lot of decent fields that one in the long
Jump heish Kerr who last time he was in Scotland heish Kerr he went off on a bit of a golfing trick with Tom wolsh they big golfers him and the uh the shot put of Tom Wolf Walsh they’re aiming to get some golf in I think before they leave
Scotland on this particular trip there are plenty of courses to choose From so here we go then bar at 2 m 24 clean scorecard so far for OLG doruk the European under 23 silver medalist from last year eight athletes moving forward to this Height and dorik maintains his 100% record so far just looked a little bit tentative in the opening couple of strides of his uh of his run up there dorik again grazing with his hamstrings but the bounce was not enough to take the bar off and D
Shook with that as we see that takeoff distance of 1.26 M it will be Yan stefer to go next Who’s needed second attempt at both of his earlier Heights number three on the indoor list this year is Jan steer with his 2 B 30 clearance in Chet in the Czech Republic
Around about a month ago and Stef now engaging the crowd on the back straight the stands are still full down the back straights they’ve got the best view of both the pval and of the likes of stefa who is a left sided Approacher it’s definitely going well first bar is cleared first time One of the features of these championships as well as as most of the major championships are there’s been great support from the rest of the team to some of their athletes when they’re competing you see some of the the team kits and team tracksuits along with the coaching Robbie gartz former Global
Medalist of Great Britain he’s a former World indoor medalist now woo who really does love to direct the crowd the defending champion this is his first attempt at 2 m and 24 one of only two athletes in this field to actually achieve the qualifying Mark of 234 for these championships heish
Kerr was the other one oh oh No doesn’t not too many off at 224 woo so he’s well over it wasn’t he and then just a little bit of a nudge with the Achilles just not quite flicking those feet over as we move to Edgar Rivera the fourth Placer from the World Outdoor championships in 2017 based in Germany Edgar Rivera I said one of the uh very small number three athlete Mexican field fourth at the Pan-American games in Santiago Chile at the back end of last season he finished seventh in the last Edition in Belgrade he’s a national record holder Mexico indoors and out his
National indoor record of 230 actually goes back to 2 2017 but he did jump 227 last year to get within a bar of his National indoor record but not with that one at the moment at 224 think might take off this it with his
Arm oh he just got his arm over it in fact so first failure of the competition for Edgar Rivera Amish the man from Christ Church he won the first ever high jump gold for New Zealand at the Commonwealth Games he was also in Belgrade at the last World indoor championships he
Became the first New Zealander to win a global high jump medal with his shared bronze with tberry in 2022 usually got a smile on his face heish CT here he goes at 224 building his way into the competition very nicely heish Kurt to uh chat with his uh well he’s chat with Robbie gravat actually who’s part of the British coaching team am K working with a new coach actually James sandeland his former biome mechanics expert he’s now his out and out coach with Vernon Turner next to go also with a clean
Scorecard another one who’s going to make the most of this the crowd are there you seeing the crowd in the home straight there the back straight stands are pretty much full that’s the first failure of the competition for Vernon Turner who has a slightly unusual technique doesn’t he
The sort of flick of the legs at the last minute is not something you see from others almost like a bit of a hitch kick kind of style that you see sometimes from the horizontal Jumpers so V Turner 224 The beauty of modern technology these days you can have your own personal instant replay Nobert kelki three attempts at 215 first time clearance at 2 m and 20 this is 224 No still as you can see koboski we mentioned it earlier on but polish fans in the corner there part of his coaching team Too so kobelski looking to hold his body together as we see Shelby mccuan who passed at the previous height the US athlete of 2 m 20 very comfortable clearance at 2:15 here he goes at 224 for the first time another one who really has a lot of speed across the
Tarmac not tarmac indorses it but you know what I mean Turner with a smile there cleanly over the joint world leader with woo with their clearances of 2 m 33 so far all this Season 6.88 speed with that last step is one of those who one of the quicker ones across the ground here’s the defending Champion woo this is a second attempt for woo only four athletes clear those top four doruk ker mccuan and stfa the four who are Clear oh and woo a second time failure for the defense ending champion at 2 m 24 of course every every surface is different this is a brand new Mondo surface here at the Glasgow Arena that’s been laid specifically for this event of course the athletes have been out there warming up they’ve been uh had some competitive practice over the course of the uh buildup days to this Championship
As well lots of them have been training in various other Leisure facilities around the Glasgow area too but at the moment woo finding it difficult at 224 three more athletes have second attempts coming up the first of them is Edgar Rivera we’ve lost four athletes of you just joining us Thomas akamatsu caroy
And protsenko were already out with their triple failures at 220 five-time World Championship representative Outdoors Edgar Rivera nope again you don’t need to be a technical expert to see that it’s not Close he h that pretty much on the way Up so currently in fifth place in the live standings he’s obviously guaranteed a place in the top eight because he’s cleared a bar more than the the bottom four and that LE two are out of the Competition so Vernon Turner once again engaging the support of the crowd didn’t quite realize it was his turn actually in fact it’s the povs are engaging the uh engaging the crowd on the other side of the Arena I was expecting that to be Vernon Turner out a camera shot but he
Hadn’t even realized it was his go so second attempt for Turner 224 US national silver medalist giving it the full 360 engaging everybody who is still in the arena here plenty of Them yes stays on for burn and Turner is it’s an all action technique isn’t it over the bar it works for him I don’t know what technical coaches might say about that by uh wriggling the legs like you are it feels like there’s more moving parts to not the bar off but
As long as it stays on it doesn’t matter how you get over it effectively Norbert kilki of Poland second attempt 224 well the third best ranked athlete in this field no close again for kobelski he’s one of those who does have the Olympic qualifying standard already looking ahead to the summer
Poland have only ever taken one silver medal in this event in the past and Kel’s Fitness levels aren’t necessarily suggesting that it’s going to be easy for him to do that today so a very big attempt coming up here because this is the defending champion this is Wu sangok of Korea and
This is his third attempt at 2 m 24 he has to get this or he will be deposed as the world indoor champion Let Go the reaction tells you that is a s of relief but that is a sort of clearance that we would expect from woo great shots again from our bar cam there of how much he had to spare getting that speed right up there over 7 m/ second accelerating into the bar
And woo with that again those two failures at 224 we’ll wait and see if that comes back to cost woo he’s in sixth position at the moment so again two more athletes have got third and final attempts to stay in the competition here the first of them is edar Rivera the Mexican record Holder Close close but no for Rivera who exits the competition well it is an Elite field of 12 a small but select field a straight final no qualifying here at the world indoor championships purely on the basis of time in the indoor arena a three-day Championship so just isn’t timed up
Qualifying in a lot of these events as well and here we go with kobelski really digging deep first time we’ve seen him ask for the crowd support here mag it at 2115 needs to do it again at 224 third time yes kobelski digging really Deep So at that bar height we lost edar Rivera of Mexico getting in tight to the bar there as you can see less than one meter away from his takeoff compared to some of the other numbers we’ve been seeing there so we’ve lost Rivera and we are
Down to seven from our original field of 12 the bar will now move up to 2 m and 28 our officials going through the final Measurements nice bit of camaraderie between some of the athletes saw wo there applauding having a fist bump towards haish ker there’s stefa of the Czech Republic confirmation of 228 the next bar Height McAn seventh place from outdoors in Budapest he finished fifth actually in his native USA in the 2022 staging of the world championships in Eugene USA the silver medalist as a nation from the world outdoors with Javon Harrison who’s actually the current world ranked number one is Javon
Harrison and we now have the bar set the clock is running at 2 m 28 and our first man to attempt it once again first in the jumping order o doruk who has cleared 2 m 30 this Year that clean card is something that he will enjoy looking At first failure of the competition for Daruk Thor finished fourth at the European championships in 2022 in Munich won the national championships with an indor PB actually of 229 which he then improved to 230 as we move to Yan stefer of the Czech Republic seventh at the European championships his personal best Outdoors is 222 compared to his indoor personal
Best of 2 m 30 the athlete from pilson get one with real speed but it’s a failure at 228 for stfa as well so you’re expecting this Championship to be decided in the 230s region 231 with with the next tight so again these knocking it off at this height
Can be something that may come back to decide things the further on we go through the Competition so some heart stopping moments for fans of Korea at the last height of 230 where the defending Champion needed three to get over he finished just outside the medal podium in Tokyo in 2021 at the Olympics he finished off the podium at the world outdoors in Budapest
He’s been a successful indoor performer he’s looking to translate that Outdoors to the Olympic Games in Paris and he fouls at 228 of course he’ll have the likes of jamarco tambari mutesa bashim Javon Harrison among those by the time we get to the Olympic Games in Paris all being well and all getting
There fit and Firing but the well rank number four at the moment woo has a third failure on his Card heish KR the only athlete so far with a clean card apart from mchu of course who K’s had one more success with MCU having passed so again that would count in K’s Favor Amish K is looking really good [Applause] here enjoying watching himself at the moment amus ker looks ready and that is four out of four for the Kiway so only athlete clear so far at this height is heish KT which will have him top of the live standings So Turner you see HH K ago speaking to Robbie graat he took the silver medal in the 2016 World indoor championships in Portland Oregon but Turner 228 which would be a season’s best performance for him oh again that was a close for Turner he he will think that’s in there his
Season’s best performance of 225 came in winning the silver medal behind Shelby McAn at the US indoor championships in altitude conditions at Albuquerque in New Mexico Here Comes his personal replay service could have at least bought a a larger tablet couldn’t he rather make it and watch it on a front with his Coach it’s what said yeah it’s pretty close I’m going to try and clear it next Time so that’s how we stand at the moment with one athlete still to take their first attempt and it’s this man Nobert kabeli as they just recalibrating the uh equipment either substituting or uh just fixing up the end of the bar There I think Veron Turner gave it a bit of a clout so Uh section of the bar that uh rests on the uprights that scores in the officials an issue and that bar has been substituted Out so woo will need a second attempt shortly it’s not his go yet only one only two athletes have won more than one world indoor Championship gold medal the great Javier sotoor the world record holder and Stephen Holm we won four each won more than one world
Indoor goal which is what w is looking to attempt to do Shelby mccuan the last men’s global Title for the USA was just Williams in deu in 2011 at the World Outdoor championships that is something that Shelby mccuan is trying to change today the world rank number
Nine only needed three jumps actually to win the US championships ahead of Vern and Turner that man so far mccuan has only needed two the bar has been fixed I can tell you and he’s back on and norber kabeli the first or sorry the final athlete I should say to have
His first attempt at 2 m 28 European teams championship winner in 2021 his most recent performance was to clear 222 in tun which will be the host nation of the 2026 World indoor championships here he goes first attempt 228 overall waiting patiently first attemp so just two events going on in
The arena at the moment now towards the end of this morning session with an evening session the final session of these championships to come of course lead to kathon pval and this the men’s high jump final very welcome you are to our coverage wherever you’re joining us
Around the world Shelby mccuan wants the crowd support two jumps two clearances so far for the American bar at 2 m 28 he is the last man to attempt it for the first Time so after first round attempts we only have one athlete clear so far at 228 that is heish ker of New Zealand and that clearance at 228 has ker in the lead again if you’re new to high jump scoring wondering how they separating all those athletes who have the same clearance it is on countback the number of failures on the card so doruk and mccuan both have one failure on their
Card whereas stfa for example has three which is why he’s lower down in the order heish Kerr the leader a well bronze medal is the best that he has has managed so far clock is running for a second attempts for o doruk in as I mentioned won the national
Championships with his indoor PB jumped even further he performed much better in qualifying in the world outdoors in Budapest than he did in the actual final oh so a third attempt required for doruk just going back to that point he jumped 228 in the world outdoors in qualifying
In Budapest but only managed 220 in the Final in what were very very hot conditions in Budapest hot stifling the temperature was up in the mid 30° out in Hungary last summer a lot cooler here in Scotland I can tell you and of course we’re indoors as well steper is directing the crowd second attempt 2 m 28 Oh he Glides sephila he really does glide through the air couldn’t quite get his carves over that one so he’s got one more attempt [Applause] Robbie gatz in the background there with the Great Britain t-shirt on as I mentioned the silver medalist from the 2016 World indor Championships in Portland who’s part of the Great Britain coaching setup here we go then with the defending Champion woo second attempt the diamond League final winner
In Eugene Oregon the back end of last year the world silver medalist from Eugene as well 2022 he likes competing there but missed the podium at the Olympics missed the podium at the world championships in 2023 it it’s his title he’s not giving it up without a
Fight and he won’t need a pressure third attempt this time cuz he’s got over second time at 228 so he joins HH Kerr in clearing 228 woo in second place at the moment on countback little bit more volum in the Aran here we see those failures on the card compared to heish K who’s had four out of four so far Clearances Veron Turner second attempt coming at 2 me 28 that would be a significant season’s best as I mentioned he’s he’s got better with every competition this year his three competition he jumped 218 221 and then 225 the athlete from forly of the University of Oklahoma say a late entrance into the
Competition as a benefit of somebody else’s injury but looking to make the most of this nearly managed to get the whole Arena behind him here as the P vault in the Deon is on a slight pause not as close as his first attempt so one more left available for Turner two more have attempts to come at this height next will be Nobert kelki of Poland Shelby mccuan still to come with his second attempt at this height as well seven athletes remaining in this competition we started with 12 koboski as you can see couple of Struggles far away from Kobelski so two clear four more haven’t cleared it with two attempts Muran the last to have his second attempt has cleared 233 both indoors and out the athlete from Mississippi who used to flip off trucks and Hy Stacks apparently as a kid which uh his parents blame his athleticism in this particular event
On USA have won nine medals so far here in Glasgow in these championships four of them gold including the likes of Ellie sen Pierre Christian Coleman amongst others Ryan krower Shelby MCU looking to add his name to the US medal roster Bel second for the
USA as you see so many of the athletes doing just go through his final process talking it through in his head visualizing it all the way up to the bar and then let go yes Shelby MCU joins ker and woo clear 2 m 28 here we go he says pointing to his coaches
Supporters in the crowd on the back straight so third attempts to come there for four more athletes lovely comparison there with the leader heish Kerr Again part of the Innovative coverage brought to you as we see doruk to stay in the competition the European under 23 silver medalist from last summer been in great form over the course of the last few weeks jumping 2 m 30 he’s asking for Qui doruk is one of
Those who doesn’t want the crowd getting behind him heas said than done to quieten an Athletics Arena everyone wants to clap it’s the natural response the doruk knows what works for him Oh and he was very very close but it is the end of the competition for ol doruk of Ukraine and we are down to six he had a real opportunity of a medal as we see stefa with his odd shoes getting himself ready because he has the same thoughts probably here as
One of the young new arrivals on the global high jumping scene recent addition to the 2 me 30 Club the 22-year- old W getting himself ready he’s got himself a clearance already at 228 in the bag con still on at the moment for stfa waiting for the pole vault to execute
His their jump on the adjacent Runway because that is where steper is starting his approach from stepa directing the Crowd to stay in the world Indo high jump final Yan steer Czech Republic 228 at the third time again like dorer close close but not there so the two 22y olds backto back with narrow failures at 2 m 28 depart the competition and we are down very quickly to five five left
Kerr mchan and woo clear Turner and KOB Eli’s third attempts to come at the moment step in fifth position but a clearance here for either of the remaining two athletes will nudge him down a place clock is running for Vernon Turner of USA so Turner is uh he’s used up 15
Seconds of his jump clock already but he’s just going through a bit of early Rehearsal a minute is plenty of time for the athletes to get back and get it underway but you can see in the background the crowd even with just two events remaining in the Arena right engaged in these field events Vern and Turner with only 20 seconds left on his jump clock he doesn’t want to go these uh This Crowd dire doesn’t want to go on too long his jump clock goes red the yellow flag goes up for the official to tell him that
He’s into the last 15 seconds and here he goes third attempt to stay in not to be this time for Vernon Turner of USA the US national silver medalist and he departs the competition with a third failure and he is in sixth position one more to come at this height
With a third attempt at 2 m 28 so sixth as it stands for Turner can’t finish any lower than seventh depends on what happens with this kobelski jump coming up now already clear twice at third attempts kobelski at 2115 and at 224 con still down at the moment for nober kilki
Amish K sitting pretty at the moment or standing pretty at the moment with those four clearances the B will go up to 2 m 31 after this attempt by norber kobelski Shelby mccuan just Gathering himself to take on 2 m 31 next kobelski asking for the crowd support then for
This final attempt at 228 to stay in the competition oh again it’s so close it’s so close for kobelski who really has put in a brave battle out there with an seemingly injured right ankle kobelski joins dorik stfa and Turner in exiting at this Height so what that means is at the top of the standings there those top three names you can see with clearances at 228 we now know are three medalists but which order will they finish in Shelby mcira now is guaranteed the first Global medal for the USA heish ker is guaranteed a global
Medal we have two of the three medalists from Belgrade two years ago guaranteed to be in the top three here the bars moving up to 2 m 31 Heish Cur has looked the best so far woo had a wobble at 224 really that third and final Attempt confirmation then of that new height of 2 m 31 here in the men’s high jump final at the world Athletics indoor championships Glasgow 20 24 only the athletes will tell you how much knowing they’ve won a medal comes into their mind in this situation they’ll be watching their competitors one by one fail at third attempts they can do the math themselves they’ve got the scoreboards in the arena showing them the full
Scorecard to show you that there only three left there are only three medals so guaranteed to be a second medal for New Zealand of these championships after Tom Walsh’s silver in the shot foot woo will be the first to attempt this new height there of 2 m and 31 his world leading
Mark be beaten gold medals can never be taken away has a gold medal already to take back on the not short flight back to New Zealand not before he’s spit in a round of golf with Walsh though he shot putter at one of the Glorious Scottish courses up here close to Glasgow Shelby
MC posing for a few photos and getting the uh stars and the stripes handed to him for his celebratory photos very shortly Indeed position should as we head toward the event later so haish Ker’s second and final attempt at this height making a little run up adjustment the clock is now running for homish KT he set his oceani record at 234 in the slovack Republic on Valentine’s Day
Last year he would love to beat it here in Glasgow plenty of time 2 and a half minutes still on the jump clock you mentioned when they we are down to one competitor each one competitor left in the competition it’s 3 minutes between Jumps so heish K in a position he’s never been in before a world Champion the reversal of the placings from Belgrade woo took the Gold in Belgrade two years ago and ker took the BR bronze here in Glasgow Woo’s got the bronze K’s got the Gold there we go then make the most of this heish enjoy this Moment still are reckon three quarters full in the arena why wouldn’t you be smiling when you’re world champion for the crowning Glory at an oania record of 236 yeah yes hais K what a day in Glasgow world champion lifetime best oania record 2 m [Applause] 36 absolutely Sensational there is the benefit of not wasting those early rounds knocking the bar off and having to take two or three attempts to get over mest heghts he didn’t fail a bar until 234 and with that left in his legs he gets congratulations from another man
Who knows what it is to win a world indoor medal Robbie grabars and haish K at 2 m 36 with his final attempt let’s see if he’s going to go even higher he’s taking his bib off so I reckon he’s Not it’s a a hug the fact that hes Kerr’s taken his bib off and he’s got his flag I think that’s going to be the end of It let’s have a look at this 236 an Oceania record and he didn’t even touch it I mentioned in the runup to this he said I think 238 is on the cards for me this year well look at that that will tell you it definitely is a clean
Clearance at 2 m 36 it is the end of the competition congratulations all around for HH Kerr who’s left a right old mess on the floor but he won’t worry about that and great reward for The Spectators who stayed to celebrate the performance of Hamish Kerr WL the world leading performance absolutely
Sensational and what a statement from HH Kerr to some of those who aren’t doing indoors he’ll be watching this no doubt the tamber’s the bims amongst others the Javon Harrison that haish Kerr in a major championship is all of a sudden a contender for the top step of the podium
Not just any old medal there’s our silver medalist Shelby MC of the USA the pride of Mississippi great performance from him as well to win his first Global medal and woo who’s had a couple of disappointments up the World Championships outdoors and the Olympic Games but his medal winning form indoors
Continues he adds the bronze medal to the Gold that1 in Belgrade two years ago brilliant competition in the early stages one or two just falling below what they were capable of one or two struggling with a few injury issues as well but we saw a great women’s high jump competition between Nicola ois
Slagers and yaroslava mahui and like the women’s competition the gold medal goes to oania hly slers of Australia in the women’s and ker of New Zealand in the [Applause] Men’s I’m almost certain his good friend Tom Walsh will be in the arena somewhere Tom was in the arena last night watching on some of his TV te supporting his New Zealand teammates haven’t seen Tom wsh but I’m sure he’s somewhere lurking in the black and white of New Zealand brilliant performance from h k flag Flag brings us pretty much towards the end of the morning session here there is still some Decap action going on as we see and confirm the bronze medalist for ker as I mentioned right at the top the only athlete here at these championships representing Korea in Embrace between the two athletes [Applause]
