Contradicts that and says the Phillies haven’t talked to Blake Snell at all and in this piece that Todd zy put out they were also mention in that was also mentioned the exact same thing that sources said Snell and mountgomery are unlikely the Phillies have expressed little to no interest in Snell
Throughout free agency even on a short-term deal one reason as we talked about yesterday as we all know is they would lose draft picks and international bonus pull money because he’s attached to a qualifying offer and I read that and I think nothing is impossible even despite the fact that we keep hearing

Uh it was it was a long story and I read it last night while watching TV he tried to rank and he only used hundred plus million doll contracts uh so it’s more the modern era of baseball uh he tried to pinpoint the best pound for dooll pitching contract of every hundred
Million pitcher ever and the four finalist he came up with was Zack Wheeler’s last contract uh the ma Scherzer Nationals contract where he was signed for seven years and basically was a two-time Sai Young winner in those seven years won a World Series uh they he was paid big bucks uh
But a tremendous contract uh Garrick Cole’s current contract with the New York Yankees and Justin Verlander Tigers contract from 2013 to 2019 uh so to put it in perspective Justin Verlander was seven years 180 million uh the Garrett Cole contract is 9 years 324 million Max
Sher was 7 years 210 million and he says 5 years $118 million Zack Wheeler deal uh most agree that sherzer was the best because to sa Youngs his numbers were ridiculous best war in baseball uh finished second in the sa young once third twice like he
Was just all seven years of it was spectacular uh and most agree that was probably the best pitching perform performance but what was interesting that Jason did was he broke it down uh in uh the case for wheeler he basically had it come down to Scherzer versus
Wheeler he talked to John Middleton he talked to a lot of people in the know and he broke it down by uh hold on I’m trying to find the exact wording as it is a very long story uh the length of the deal compared to value uh in in
Basically war and when you do it that way Zack Wheeler is the best contract in baseball history history of pitchers over100 million um so like you know we’ve always kind of said it like one of the best Phillies deals ever you know tremendous value for the Phillies well Jason took
It a step further and broke it down into basically a win share per money spent and Zack Wheeler he made the case while maybe not the best and most dominant pitcher was the best actual value on a contract yeah it was pretty fascinating and honestly it’s wild because you know
As the more that comes out the more we realize just how historic this deal is you know we all had been talking about getting an extension done for Zach wheeler the need to lock him in this season not allowing him to get into free agency next year and not only did the
Phillies do that and do it before the season even started with 23 days left before you know opening day in addition to that you gave him a historic extension now his contract on so many different levels whether it’s top 10 in aav and all Major League Baseball
History or best for pitchers or best in Phillies history to me that even speaks volumes that the little things okay they waited until Monday because he was on paternity leave and didn’t return back to playing it until Saturday and gave him a couple extra days they made sure
That not only we’re going to lock you in early we’re going to lock you in early on a contract that shows you how much we value you as our Ace and as the future you know the guy for the future so these are the types of things that it’s like
Wow it’s it’s got to make you feel good and it’s got got to make you that much more excited and and confident and we know Zach spoke about how much he loves it here that makes you love it even more that your team your Club has that much
Belief in you that they’re willing to give you one of the best deals ever yeah most the most expensive extension in MLB history and Tyler here’s where it breaks down dollars per win above replacement Zack Wheeler number one on the list at 3.9 million Max Scherzer came in at 4.7
Million per war Verlander was five million per war and Garrick Cole is 6.1 million per war so can a uh can a pitcher who signed a contract and opted out halfway through count to that that list because there’s a guy who signed a six-year deal back in 2013 opted out
After three years and signed somewhere else but in those three years was 51 and 15 posted a 2.3 ra struck out 555 and had a 1.27 whip what years this was 13 through six uh 13 through 15 opted out after the 15th season and then signed a new

Had the same issue last year at the start of the Season where he wasn’t able to be playing until May in his debut May 4th well here we are in 2024 and Justin Verlander yet again he’s doing well but we’re running out of days and won’t be

Phillies are banging on uh and Rich pointed this out in his newsletter and I had read something similar somewhere yesterday uh at age 34 to put in comparison to where Zack Wheeler is compared to some other Phillies Legends at age 34 this is the amount of innings
Pitched so the Phillies are kind of banking on he is not your typical 34y old starting pitcher with wear and tear on the body like a lot of these guys are Roy Halliday at age 34 had pitched 2900 Innings Roy Roy Oswalt had pitched 2700 Innings Cliff Lee 2200 Innings plus
College Zack Wheeler and as rich said very patriotic of him only had 1776 Innings so that’s I mean significantly almost 1,200 less Innings pitched than Roy Halliday at the same age so I thought that was uh pretty important to note there when you’re talking about a a mid3 pitcher uh all

Is one of the most polarizing Phillies ever because his numbers on baseball reference are eye popping I’m TR to cut you off I’m going to let you finish oh wow she kaneed me just to throw this out there because we’re doing of all time but we’re doing during their career with
The Phillies correct looking at their um so it’s anybody and this there’s no time limit just their best years with the Phillies for their specific position and there are guys that have played multiple positions but we’re factoring in where we felt like their career was at its
Best yes uh and continue Taylor Bryce Harper is a weird one because we’ve known him now as a right fielder up until now but he’s going to be a first baseman going forward so if we do this again in eight years we’ll probably have Bryce in our top three Phillies first
Baseman of all time but currently we kind of went with right field for Bryce Harper uh so number three kicking us off on the list uh you could make the case that he deserves to be one or two based off of numbers alone a lot of people
That watched him play um kind of ha hated his Lac ofical defense and he wasn’t a mud dog and he wouldn’t run into walls uh he was one of those guys Renee I’m sure you’ve encountered these people in your playing careers that just makes every he almost looks I don’t want
To say lazy but it comes so easy to them that it’s just like effortless and Bobby abrau to me was like uh an overhated on person for some reason his numbers are spectacular uh and here here’s the graphics nine years with the Phillies 2400 career games Jimmy Rollins is best
Man in his wedding Bobby basball was tremendous wow what an idiot on that graphic who put two different numbers of home runs what an idiot so the 195 and the 288 obviously are two very different things yes what’s the first one the 288 is his career the
195 is how many he hit with the philes so there’s his slash line with the Phillies 303 416 and a 513 uh just incredible numbers 814 RBI he stole bases on top of it and he hit 300 or better six times uh a gold glove which I know people uh kind of would
Give him [ __ ] for uh that he didn’t run into walls he had a cannon for an arm he could steal bases he could hit for power he could get on base Bobby AB was an awesome player he was was he was and he was a guy uh as an Allstar as you talked
About that Gold Glove somebody that was one of the best deals that the Phillies were able to make in that trade in 97 uh to be able to bring in Bobby Abu because he had so much that he added on both sides of the ball and in his time with
The Phillies cemented himself as a right fielder that you have to include in this conversation the numbers alone are great but as you mentioned it was the fact that he did make it effortless he didn’t he had in his in his best Gams at his Peak uh the ability to really change the
Game and so Bobby Abu uh the stuff that you when you look back on what he’s been able to accomplish uh whether it was the 2005 Home Run Derby or you know being a Silver Slugger whatever it was Bobby AB BR was was fun to watch he was
Absolutely um just a great competitor regardless of what you think so I think solid number three as a philly uh Bobby [ __ ] yeah Tyler and I know you you know were pushing for him to almost be higher I think I would and I think the further you get away from Bobby Bru’s playing
Career especially with it’s time with the Phillies because if we’re being honest like he had a decent couple of years in New York La started to fall off and then it was kind of over for him from there be the bulk of his career was with the Phillies the further you get
Away from Bobby AB Bru’s tenure with the Phillies the more I think you appreciate how good Bobby Abu actually was and John Foley I think put in our group chat I think the the response he had was criminally underrated yeah I agree like we said six times hitting over 300 had
40 or more doubles five times 348 total doubles I mean it’s this guy was really quite good and I think there was that era of Phillies baseball it was still like vet baseball it was still like machismo like bravado tough guy fans and they didn’t like you said they didn’t

Said for look I know in Philadelphia here we want effort and we want Aaron Rowan running into the wall and risking it all there is something to be said for being smart with yeah balls off the wall and yeah Bobby wouldn’t dive into the wall but he would try to play the angles
Pretty well and he did have a cannon of an arm so you know he did have that one gold glove but he’s a career 60 War player uh Bobby Abra was number three on our list uh but you could certainly make the case and Mopar good luck with the
Knee draining sir yes good luck um but Bobby AB is awesome all right now the number two guy I think eclipses Bobby abrau it’s a shorter time period he’s going to be playing a new position going forward uh but I think what he’s shown you in the postseason and winning an MVP
Award here I think it’s safe to say even in four years some of it missed with time in the field we can put Bryce Harper uh as the second best right fielder uh of all time and and look when you’re doing this at the end of his
Career if he played right field for the entirety of his contract he’d probably easily be number one uh but it’s been five years you know three of in a half of which were in the field um he’s got an MVP he’s awesome he is the team uh
You know he’s been an Allstar he’s tremendous he’s one of the faces of baseball Bryce Harper number two yeah I know people in the chat are mentioning Jason worth but uh looking at those stats again Tyler if you can just flash those up again Bryce Harper stats from
2019 in his five years with the Phillies 581 games his numbers 284 395 536 splits with 591 hits 122 of those home runs has had uh 144 doubles 360 RBI 3 87 runs 58 stolen bases and of course that 2021 NL MVP as well as being a two-time Allstar
For Bryce Harper it’s it’s hard because as we were talking about with even comparing Roy and Zach he’s still playing now so we don’t have the full picture and we know he’s obviously going to be a first baseman moving forward but the way that um Bryce Harper at right
Field really what and how he’s been with the team in the previous years the last five seasons that absolutely what he’s accomplished and how he’s helped his team getting to the World Series getting you know obviously last year was first baseman so we don’t count that as much
With the NLCS run but he has changed the tides of the Phillies the playoff drought ends getting you know being a top team in the league that’s he might be the most significant signing in Philly’s history honestly I think it’s hard because it’s still he’s still in
The midst of his career we know he’s changing uh positions to be a first keep him in right field I don’t know if you can keep him yeah if we’re talking about the past do you think Bryce Harper is a good baseball play yeah he’s okay um
He’s all right uh so here’s the thing I think the longevity at the position because we’re talking about at the position sure keeps him from moving up this list and quite frankly I probably would have put him at two behind a br I would have gone Harper 2 and AAU or har
Har three and a I think the impact of Bryce on the team plus playoff success all certainly fair I think the the the small sample size of the position so like if you just strictly said to me pick a player Bryce Harper Bobby [ __ ] I’m picking Bryce Harper if you said to me
Pick a Phillies right fielder and use the entirety of the sample size in which they played the position I’m gonna take Bobby Abu but to put the one at three and the one at two I think you could you know if you want to flip the coin and
Pick either one that’s totally fine I think just the longevity for me outweighs and yes Harper wins the MVP I think Abo’s top MVP finish was like 12 or 14 maybe um but regardless um yeah it was 12 and it was wasn’t even with the Phillies his top with the Phillies was
14 um two really good baseball players one I think we value properly and one we don’t value enough yeah I think the other part of this to keep in mind for you guys that are watching and I know Chris you’re mentioning and I’m assuming you’re talking about uh Bryce hands down
One of the top 10 players in team history Bryce is one of the top top players to ever wear a Phillies Jersey but because he just moved to first base as we’re going through our depth chart you can’t put him as a top first baseman
You know as hard as it is to talk him as a top right fielder you absolutely cannot have him as a top first baseman he hasn’t played a full season at years so right in eight years it’s a different conversation but right now we cannot and
You can’t put together a list with a depth chart of the all-time best Phillies and not have Bryce Harper on there so without a doubt he’s he has to find his way into that depth chart um the two versus three is one of those things that like you said Tyler there
Are so many reasons you can argue either side but he definitely should be top three and I know Jason worth again was mentioned probably number four on this list if he play if he had played a little longer here I think he uh could have weasel in
