ONE REASON Why I WON’T Buy These Gorgeous NEW Ping Irons!

ONE REASON Why I WON’T Buy These Gorgeous NEW Ping Irons!

Okay I’m going to be brutally honest with this one early these new ping irons scare the Daylights out of me introducing the brand new for 2024 ping blueprint te irons now if you want an iron that looks well I’ll go ahead and say it it looked beautiful doesn’t it I

Think Simplicity really is the key with what Ping are trying to do here they do still have technology in there which we’re going to talk about in today’s video we’ll give them a test out here on the golf course and we’ll talk numbers which I’ve already done in the studio

But are a lot of people going to buy these just cuz they look so good I think they potentially will I have just reviewed the brand new ping blueprint s very impressed with those pretty forgiving very very workable and they feel gorgeous so how will these compare

Let’s find out and I suppose one of the first things I need to mention in this video is I think a lot of people will potentially go split set with these clubs I think a lot of people will go s in the long irons T in the short irons

And have a nice mish mash set now mish mash set try saying that fast and we’ll have a nice mixed bag set now these irons come in exactly the same Loft in both sets so it’s very easy to do so which I think is a very good idea from

Ping so people can have exactly what they want you will hear me talk about the looks of these clubs on more than one occasion in this video cuz I do believe that is the big talking point they look so good that felt very difficult to hit it

Looks tiny down at the ball the blade length is reduced it is one of the smallest blade lengths to be honest I’ve possibly ever seen and although it was a nice strike and nice Turf interaction you can see I’ve just caught that a little bit out of the toe um and that’s

Resulted in a compromised feel and also a compromised ball flight cuz with Mr Green this looks so small I know someone whose ought that felt so good though go on that could be really close right that felt delightful I can sort of I sort of get it I know someone

Who’s ordered a full set of these John and I couldn’t have them in the bag the blade length is that wait till we look at the four iron the the four iron you can see here looks tiny but I think there’s something to be said in that I

Think a lot of golfers sometimes play better with a shorter blade length with a smaller head because it makes you focus it actually might make you go to the range and work on your game a little bit more which if it does fair play to you everyone has their own forms of

Motivation can we draw one in with this Aon that might be another Mis green is one out of three okay cuz they do look really really good let’s go and see where they finished I’ll even clean them cuz they look that good and I think for me one of the big interesting talking

Points is I’ve spoken to a few people who’ tested these it already and found the numbers really good they found that that they went quite a long way they found the spin rates in a nice window way you can control the ball I just think about the Forgiveness element like

I’m not a pessimist golfer but I think about the worst case scenario and worst case scenario for me with that blade length is uh yeah it’s it’s the worst case scenario but I suppose then when that’s the best case scenario oh that’s so close isn’t it we didn’t have a hole

In one last year we had three the year before and none last year then that’s okay and actually if I look at where all these balls are finished front to back dispersion isn’t too bad that’s still flag High both those balls have gone pretty much the same distance as that

One one I just managed to get that one a little bit closer strike it out the middle and get it near the flag so this is going to be probably one of the most interesting tests I think I’ve done with irons and the numbers are going to be

Very interesting so make sure you stay tuned for those very interesting front to back yeah and now I also think what could be a very vital part of which golf clubs you end up with especially in this ping blueprint range could well be where you get fitted how you get fitted and when

You get fitted because hitting golf balls off a mat like this I’ve got the 6 ion here and this will probably be the fitting Club in most fitting sets six or a 7 ion I can’t remember which one it is with ping maybe it’s a seven but most

People can stand up there on a mat in a fitting maybe inside when you’ve just had a coffee and you’ve got another coffee coming uh and you’ve got brand new Prov ones and you’re hitting either into a screen or down a range from the range mat it’s a little bit different so

I think the 6 I am potentially could be the club that a lot of people go and try with their Pro or in American golf or Dick Sporting Goods or PJ TOUR Superstore and be like you know what I stood up there guys and I had the New

Ping blueprint ton in my hand the six iron I looked down at it it looked a little bit scary but then I don’t know I just I just started hitting it and it just felt it just felt really nice it launched really nice and high I managed

To turn it over it didn’t go left it didn’t really go right and for me it was really really enjoyable and I got really good numbers yeah we were off a mat but I don’t think that really makes a difference does it because let’s be fair I mean that felt

So good like side note that did feel really really good and then you might go and practice with them in the offseason at the driving range off a mat in the US you might not have mats as much as we do in the UK but here in the UK these are

Kind of a staple thing after probably November maybe even earlier than that and it does sort of lead you into a false sense of security cuz these These sixs are going really really to be honest crazy good crazy high probably going a nice distance cuz spin rate is not quite accurate because

You’re off a mat and sometimes things like that even when I’m testing my clubs I think I’m going to test that again with the wave outside on the turf because I’m not too sure if that spin rate is right and if to be honest I don’t know if I’ve duffed any of those

Or not really CU you do get a little bit more forgiveness but then one thing I will say is that 69 did feel spectacular even if it was off a mat so indoor data with these brand new ping blueprint ions and the 8on straight away even in here

Fills me with either excitement or dread I can’t tell which one but can we get a nice kind of 15055 number with these that’s the shot that makes you think you know what I could gain these really nice high fade beautiful strike felt very buttery and that is a 151

Carry finishing at 156 spinning at 7 and a half thousand so that’s quite a good spin rate for me with an a I sometimes do have a little bit lower end spin how consistent can we be with these clubs don’t do this James I always do

This when you’re inside you kind of lull your fencer 155 on the nose spinning at seven very very it’s almost easy in here and this is one of the points I’ve made outside when you start going and getting fitted and this is what you go through you kind of

Have a little bit of a Purple Patch inside you can low yourself into thinking oh I could gain these that was towy and that’s got 157 maybe there is a little bit more forgiveness than what I’ve kind of given these credit for this is only the eight iron so this is the

Iron that maybe people would split set and have in this T head stop it that feels really good that’s performing really nicely as well and for a club that looks this good it’s got 160 yards okay on to the six I’m not going to talk to you any more about this

Blade length because it is quite frankly just tiny Ah that’s the one that’s the one that brings you back down to earth that’s a 69 it wasn’t a shank it was just he and that’s only gone 157 these are the these are the honest ones that we uh

Yeah that’s the one you hit after a uh Healy one 180 numbers are okay that was just a pull though to bonish 192 total and that’s the shot that is gorgeous that’s a really nice penetrating ball flight and that one 185 1 195 spinning at 4 and

1/2 you just have to be on the money with these you have to be on the nose now the interesting thing about a set of irons is that it is just that set of irons and it has to work for you throughout the full set of irons so when

It comes to the pitching wedge for me a pitching wedge is usually around a 130 to 135 Club sometimes a power one might be a 140 but very rarely and I get really annoyed if I start missing the Green from that distance and yes T Pros do sometimes miss the Green from that

Distance you’re not always going to hit the Green from that distance but I feel like you’ve almost done the hard work you’ve maybe hit the good drive or you’ve got yourself back in play Now’s the Time where you don’t want to be too attacking but you want to make sure you

Don’t compound a mistake or just make a mistake so from this distance I want something that’s going to perform that might have to be I mean this does look gorgeous down at the golf ball I’m going to admit I put this on screen now for you it just looks stunning I love how

The heel is a little bit higher than maybe some other irons so the whole head looks a little bit more rounded so as you go down the set they do look stunning do the perform nicely right that’s as good as that’s as good as it’s going to feel that’s that

Is really really nice and that is quite close actually as well Turf interaction wise very very nice pitching wedge it does feel rather spectacular it’s moving quite a lot in the air actually it’s a little bit probably more movement than I would usually have on a pitching wedge but

Then it’s a very very small Sleek looking head Turf interaction is very nice even when you take a bit of a slug like that so let’s talk elephant in the room and when I say elephant in the room I don’t mean something big and glaring cuz this 4on is neither big nor glaring

It’s actually quite small and beautiful but it is an elephant in the room because I mentioned right at the start of this video it looks tiny I think that’s going to appeal to a very small population of golfers but it is going to appeal to a population of golfers so

We’ll test it and we’ll try it I think even some of the world’s best players this would give the heie jbiz and you’ve probably seen that I think Lou Owen had these in the bag and I think Tony fale tried them I’m not sure if they’re in

There but if I put my best swing on this it will go 210 yards maybe 215 it will feel fantastic and I will feel like the best golfer in the world for a split second impact if it doesn’t go well yeah yeah we’ll we’ll not go there

For now we’ll try and stay confident over this one right that was okay that was a little bit Healy I’ve not had much Turf interaction it’s probably gone around 200 I’m quite happy with that to be honest that was pretty good I think if I

Was playing with a card in my hand and I was already a little bit anxious and stressed because that’s how I get when I’m competing not that I ever compete anymore really but I think I’d be my swing wouldn’t be as free flowing it wouldn’t be as fluid it wouldn’t really

Be as confident I’d want to almost kind of nudge this down there that was good that’s the shot that you have to be careful of in fittings cuz if you hit that one and go right John full set in the bag please thank you very much I don’t know I don’t know you’ve

Got to be careful can we hit another good one another good one and really we should just be on tour shouldn’t we what about a nice low Stinger right I think the pleasure element is a totally different talking point I think everyone should have played with blades at once in their life

And maybe have a set for Sundays and things like that would I want to game this club no but that’s me that’s very subjective maybe you would want to guys thank you so much for watching I really hope you’ve enjoyed that if you have smash that subscribe button below and

Apart from that I’ll see you all at exactly the same time tomorrow I might as go and put this in my office cuz it does look good

  1. Just getting back to golf. This channel has been watched to death for 2 weeks. Brilliant content James

  2. I’m just saying, I’ve seen these clubs in store, I’ve held them in my hands, James is not giving enough credit to the beauty of these clubs. I honestly don’t think I’ve ever seen a more beautiful set of irons in my life. These clubs make me want to spend $2000 on them and then get lessons till I’m worthy of gaming them. Go look at them with your own eyes. Pictures and video do not do these clubs justice. Superintendent John knows. Superintendent John is a man of integrity and taste. The score you will shoot plays second fiddle to the beauty in your golf bag. Go to the store and look at them, hold them in your hands, you will see.

  3. Another great video. However, I’m assuming that most of the clubs reviewed on this channel have been gifted by manufacturers ( for legitimate exposure etc). My point is that James’s willingness to actually buy clubs might be skewed compared to those of us who have bought all our clubs. Do you think your perspective has been significantly altered James?

  4. You're not wrong about blade length. I played OS irons because I hadn't played in years. Accuracy was not good. I switched back to a blade, and I hit everything so much better. Shooters theory: aim small miss small.

  5. Tried the S and T recently, and the dispersion and feel were so much better than my i210s. They just helped me really “slow down” the tempo of my swing. Unfortunately, I was losing a club length’s distance. As much as I enjoyed hitting them, the drop in distance compared to my gamers is just too much.

  6. Golf ⛳ is a process of adjustment. If you select more forgiving clubs it makes adjustments more difficult because they're less precise. making identifying mistakes more difficult.

  7. I’m a 8-10 handicap and clubs like these while they look beautiful they are simply not for players even at my handicap, I love my Ping G430.

  8. Ping is making some great irons. I don’t like the chunky monkey “anybody can play golf” irons. I love the I230s. The Blueprints are beautiful. I don’t think they look too scary.

  9. I really wanna try the blue print s. I plat t100s now. I think I could combo the blueprint s to 7i and go i230 6i-4i

  10. I own these 4-PW. I definitely agree they can be a little intimidating, but I don't see any further penalty than any other irons in this category. They are almost the exact same size as my Miura MC502s just thinner soles. I have hit them all over the face, and I think they are better than most people would expect. That being said I snagged a pair of the Takomo Copper 301 combo sets that sold last week, so I will checking those out also.. they are also an incredible looking set.

  11. I don’t know why you would buy these clubs? Great looking? Yes. Quality irons? Yes. They are also $1500 minimum. If you are a typical amateur golfer, even a good player, just go order some Tacomos. Let’s see….$650 vs $1500…hmmm. It just simply doesn’t make any sense for an amateur golfer, good player or not, to not consider the direct to consumer clubs. You’re just throwing your money away.

  12. The new King of understated plain, a real players-player's iron met for like .01 percent of the golfing population, lol! Hey, if you think you can play these on your C game day then by all means…..
I personally like the S version, sort of a continuation of the s55, or a forged s55. I just like Ping cast irons, what they were all about.

  13. I haven’t hit the new blueprint models. But if they are anything like the original blueprint then they have to be at the top of my list for greatest looking and feeling clubs ever. And I’ve hit them all pretty much.
With respect to forgiveness and playability “if you were to play in tournaments”? How many golfers play tournaments? And btw Cool Clubs with their robot testing reported that the original blueprint were the most consistent and forgiving blades they had tested.
So For me the solution I came to was to have two sets of irons I rotate. One game improvement set and one aspirational set.
Sometimes I even mix the sets and have a contest between game improvement and aspirational. So much fun to nail that blueprint 4 iron right next to my Mizuno jpx 923 hm pro 4 iron. That’s why in love to play.

  14. James you should know that yes it does matter if you’re hitting off mats vs. turf. Mats are super forgiving and you can never hit it but so fat because the club will still find a way to hit the back of the ball.

  15. Not forgiving enough for me. When I upgrade my G400’s I’ll probably go for the new i530’s when they’re released.

  16. James, you don’t play blades so you would find them difficult. How does Chris play with them as he likes blades…just a good humored comment. 😅😅

  17. I've ordered MP-20 HMB and T200 irons. Both were resold within 1 month of purchase. I even got a set of Bridgestone J15 CBs which I used for about 3 months. All have fallen back to my Titleist 712 MB/CB combo, that I paid $250 for, which has since been reshafted with DG AMT X100 shafts…that came out of the T200. (I took $100 off the price and he gave me the shafts back. Score.).
Yes, they don't go far when you miss hit them, but they're super consistent when you don't. All three other sets I'd get these random flyers that would have no spin and go 10 yards further and I'd be off the back of the green. And I could still miss hit a short one with them so my front to back dispersion was ridiculously unpredictable.
