PXG Black Ops and Black Ops Tour 1 Review

In this review, we take a first look at the PXG Black Ops and Black Ops Tour 1 Drivers. Find out what makes these clubs stand out and whether they’re worth the investment for your game! #PXG #BlackOps #golf

I have in my hands the pxg Black Ops drivers I’ve got the Black Ops this one has a weight at the back heel and toe and I also have a Black Ops tour one which has a weight on the heel toe and right at the back now the first thing

That jumped out on me when I got these out of the box is that they are shiny this is a Gen 4 driver with that sort of like matte black finish and then we go into these bad boys that are really shiny on top I’m not quite convinced yet

As to whether I like that or don’t mind it I don’t know yet if the ball data is very healthy then I’ll probably get used to it but I’m going to kick things off with the Black Ops this is the one with the three weights that are quite wide

Apart we’ve got a much wider variance heel and toe on these weights and in the past that’s shown really good variance left to right when we put the heavier weight in the heel and the toe we get a good difference so I’ll do that in a

Separate video but we’ve got it at 9° on standard LT setting and I’ve got a stiff Cipher 56.0 and just to be inke keeping with the brand I’ve got pxg glove and the pxg extreme golf ball when I was ordering these drivers I did notice that the

Shaft choice is exactly the same as a last year’s model of driver there’s nothing new in the Spectrum and even in this Cipher shaft that we get as standard with no upcharge Callaway have’ got the cipher 2.0 so this is a new updated version of the shaft in the

Callaway but let’s give this a Bash I like the cphon 50 shaft cuz it’s got a little bit of extra movement a bit more Bend and release into the ball it’s also counterbalance so we’ve got a bit more weight up this end of the shaft which

Means that we can let the head be lighter and go through faster which helps hit it higher and lifter in general but without further ad du what does it do oh it’s got a nice big cracky noise to it felt pretty solid off the face first shot is 334 pretty straight that

Did make a lot of noise well that’s a good start h on this shiny detail we do get some like we do show up like discoloration so when you get some smudges on there you can see it in the light a lot more than you would on a matte finish head but if

You get your top and you give that a little scrub it comes out nice and shiny and looks SPI and span launch was good Back Spin was good efficiency 1.46 now that was high and on the toe so it’ be interesting to see how much ball speed I’ve lost on that

Strike we’re still doing all right we’re over 320 336 nice now in my initial testing I wasn’t overly impressed with this driver I think I might have HD it when I was a bit cold I was a little bit tired it was towards the end of the day

And I just put some tired swings on the ball and didn’t quite see any massive gains but the first two shots there are delightful so the efficiency has dropped to 1.42 so the ball has come off slower relative to the strike relative to the speed that I put into it and we’ve still

Got 303 carry which is very nice to see now I’ve got a feeling so from my initial tests I spent 10 15 minutes hitting them the spin was quite low on the flight the spin was quite low it did dip a little bit quicker than I would

Like the pxg golf ball is a higher spinning ball and that extra spin has maintained the flight so I think that these drivers are designed to be hit with with the pxg golf ball which might sound a bit funny but straight away it’s been decent and the strike off the face

Sounds a bit like a crack of thunder oh I’ve drop kicked it and that was most certainly not to the club okay got eight up on it still efficiency really good so the rebound off the face was nice one of the things they’re shouting about on these drivers is that

10K Moi so that really high movement of inertia when you hit the ball off center it’s not twisting and deflecting as much as other drivers might but it’s also there’s 5K limit left to right but we’ve also got the up and down moment of inertia that builds into that 10K

Overall and normally with the drivers that I’ve hit so far that are around that 10K Mark Ball speeds maintained very well and I have to say it feels like a very straight driver that one not quite so long but it’s still running out 315 nice on a medium good shot efficiency

1.46 so that is maintaining quite High I have looked at these Cipher 50 shafts in the past and compared them to the autoflex cuz I feel like you’ve got that extra little bit of Bend and release that helps launch the ball that a little bit faster little bit easier to get it

Airborne but without compromising too much stability there’re quite low torque towards the bottom and not overly heavy so that’s lovely all right one more of this and then I’m going to go to the tour one well that is a lot better than yesterday’s test just leaked out to the right a little

Bit didn’t quite release I’ve still got over 300 it’s all right spin crept up a little bit higher on that one cuz the face was more open I’m just going to hit one with the shrien Zar XV just to see if there’s a difference in anything

Dramatically if I do use a ball that’s not a pxg ball good contact on the face no it’s staying in the air fairly good uh I’ve pulled it about three yards 331 nice that head does feel super forgiving and quite straight I’ve hit one shot really offline there but that’s

Ultimately completely my fault the rest of them have actually stayed quite straight Testament to that extra forgiveness built into the head but let’s go into the pxg Black Ops tour 1 I’ve also got this in 9° the shaft I’ve got here is the tensi white in an xflex

65 G and I’ve done that because it’s a stiffer less twisty shaft to suit that Tor Speck head it is designed to launch lower spin lower and I’ve got a shaft that matches those Dynamics let’s get back to that pxg ball so this is the Black Ops driver and it’s got quite a

Big footprint on top of the clubs when it sits behind the ball if I then flick you to the Black Ops tour 1 it’s a much smaller profile it doesn’t have as much footprint behind that golf ball it looks a lot more Sleek but it will be

Interesting to see what happens when I play around with the big heavy weight at the back we’ve got one heavy weight in here I want to play around with that in the front in another video later on so do subscribe if you want to see

That big crack of a whip turning over a bit more a little bit less spinny bit more dippy efficiency 1.47 which is nice and healthy finished at 313 but 40 yards off line there we go a little bit straighter it’s getting out there 296 carry rocking up to 321 1.46 efficiency

I feel like these drivers have come alive since going to this pxg golf ball for what it’s worth I am finding this easier to turn over left could be sha combo could be anything but I’m not getting as much out of the tour one now I’ve hit a lot of

Golf clubs I’ve done a lot of reviews I feel like this driver wants me to hit a fade I feel like it wants me to play for a fade and I might get that sort of like low spinning fade that keeps going forward sometimes if you hit a fade it

Spins more if you hit a draw it spins less goes further so let’s hit a couple of them cuz that last one was 1,300 Back Spin which is by all means too low let’s go for that high fade feeling little bit off the heel so that’s going

To encourage it might get it to spin a bit more 2,700 okay bit more out the center of the face not quite fading 2,300 spin I feel like I’m having to work harder for the Black Ops tour one it doesn’t feel as forgiving by a long way

I’m having to adjust myself to match the club but I’m sure in a custom fitting with a pxg fitter you’ll be able to get into something that you don’t have to adjust to much easier but with the Black Ops driver the one that is more forgiving I could just te it up point

And shoot find the target this one needs a little bit more work so I will have a test with it I will have a proper play with it in a later video don’t forget to subscribe that is not drawing see you four left 314 so I’ve got that one dippy left one in

The Black Ops and if I take out the worst shot with the Black Ops tour first thing I want to look at is the peak height so the highest point the ball reaches with that one taken out cuz that is an an noral we’ve got 126 yards of peak height against

102 the Black Ops tour one is definitely lower so the Black Ops tour one being lower I did get more ball speed out of it so it’s faster off the face even though I’ve presented very similar speed speed from the club so this club speed

Is much faster the speed off the face is more efficient on average but it does just unlock that little bit of extra Pace off the club face launching lower spinning higher don’t forget the peak height was a lot lower as well so on a windy day it’s going to be very

Different 299 against 290 I would rather start with that forgiveness there in the Black Ops and then play around with the shafts The Loft settings the weight settings to fine-tune that I’m having to work too hard for that but that’s not to say it can’t work for people if you hit

The ball too high this will bring it down and again in a fitting you’ll go through the process of different shafts I’ll have a play around with a few on other videos and we’ll see if we can’t unlock a bit more but 325 average for the 9° stiff Black Ops straight off the

Bat no fitting no tweaking no adjusting I’ll take that and also that dispersion in that first driver is quite straight little drawer I turned over a few more with the tour one I have to work a bit harder to get that to work so there we

Have the two new drivers from pxg jump in the comments if you want to see different videos if you want to see about the shafts that you get in them if you want to see about the weight settings you get in them jump in the comments smash the like button and I’ll

See you on the next video

  1. Great review. I have the black ops driver. It’s very straight and great distance. It dies make a crack sound at impact. I liked the standard better also

  2. I have been waiting for a week for your review on PXG Black Ops drivers and BINGO – not only does your review land today, but also Ian on Tour Champion (Canadian site) did his driver playoff with Black Ops Tour VS Ping G430 Max 10K (PXG won in a landslide). These new PXG drivers are quickly establishing themselves as MONSTERS. I look forward to your follow-up videos on Black Ops. Meanwhile, hit 'em like you mean it!

  3. Great review 😊 How is the efficiency number calculated? How does the Black Ops and Tour compare with the Callaway Ai Smoke? Many Thanks

  4. I can’t hit my driver at all. I slice it so bad. Do you have a lesson or drill to hit the ball as far and straight as you?

  5. Always enjoy your detailed explanations pertaining to the subtle changes in angles, weighting, and torque. Other reviewers seem to dumb down their reviews but I like the "physics" part.
