Hello there Adam Basel jet here founder of scratch Golf Academy today let’s look at strategies for hitting accurate iron shots lots to say but we key on two of the most important elements and we’ll start with the thing that sets it all up so simply put the two features that will

Allow you to be a consistent iron player or solid contact you probably already knew that and secondly Club face control through impact people tend when I give them golf lessons to way overestimate the importance of their swing path it is important and underestimate the importance of Club face control if your

Swing path is a little bit off but your Club face control and your contact are good you’re all set so let’s check it out but first what’s the thing that sets up the ability to do this so a simple back swing really sets you up to have more control through impact we’ll talk

About that outside just momentarily if you look at my back swing hitting a ball in the Learning Center body angle very consistent if you were to look say it’s starting position and ending position of hands a very clean straight line just not a lot of wasted energy there there’s

An old Aaron badley you can see his head’s pretty still his arms are pretty stable nice wrist coock just balanced and simple let’s look at why that’s important and how you can do it it’s not an easy game you may have noticed that you’ve got a small sweet

Spot here clubs traveling a great distance your subconscious is very busy in those couple of seconds it’s pretty amazing what the subconscious can do but I’m telling you if your body’s out of B balance maybe your relationship to the ball is bad with your pivot or something like

That or the club is out of balance the face is off you have a fraction of a second to time while that up and make contact and your subconscious is just not it’s just too busy to consistently control the key impact conditions so let’s have a quick look some simple back

Swing tips and checkpoints for you so if you can get that you’re ready for what we’ll do later in the video which is some impact stuff so first of two areas is the body pivot it really isn’t difficult if you’ll get the club out of your hands get a good

Posture get in front of a mirror you just need to Pivot so that your rib cage swivels and your head stays still not that difficult in theory it’s difficult for people a lot of times though if they’re hitting balls at full speed the club’s going all over the place Etc so

Check in a mirror is my head pretty centered as I go back is it fairly stable that requires that you’re pivoting perpendicular to your body angle invest a few seconds regularly in front of a mirror to get good at that let’s look at the arms and how they

Would relate to the pivot okay now let’s build the arm swing in there it is pretty simple put your hands together like so you can try it right where you’re at the beginning this big triangle formed by my arms and across my shoulders just stays intact it’s not

Rigid but it’s structured at least till I get a little bit by this Trail leg at that point the trail arm and wrist start to fold a little bit so at that point if we go to say Midway back you’re arms will look about level if you’re doing it

Right when you look in a mirror now you’ve got tilt but the fact that this has folded some levels that back out you do not want to see the trail arms stuck up against you like this you don’t want to see a big straight stiff look so as

You put the club in there it’s pretty simple get to there start to fold the wrist and arm and you’ll see your arms pretty level with some hinge in the back swing about a vertical amount of hinge and at the end of the back swing that

Trail arm should be about a right angle so here we go arms about level roughly a right angle with some wrist coock you may say well that’s easy for you to say try it right there in front of you it’s fairly easy to do you really really can

Do this if you’ll get the club out of your hands regularly invest a little bit of time into your game and just get good at that a minute a day will add up you can do this stuff let’s look at the downswing so first element of really consistent iron play is solid contact

Let’s look at a couple of views of that number one and this is a lot easier to do from a good back swing of course is is the club coming what I would call from the side of your body more down the target line most people it’s much more

Out in front of them it’s coming down too much as I’ll show you in a moment the downward hit is only a result of forward pressure in the shaft in a good swing not of hitting down so get a shaft on the ground make some small swings and

Practice this nice little semicircle run up to the ball and the sense that the B the club stays nice and level for a while down the Target line let’s have a look from the front if you like this video subscribe I hope you would hit the

Bell You’ be notified every time a new video is coming your way okay we’re coming in at a good angle can we make a solid hit can we apply pressure to the ball think about it this way tour players all hit the ball solidly pretty much all the time and

They all hit it fairly fast certainly some part of than others they’ve got a good strike what dissipates for them on a bad day’s directional control to one degree or another so you really got to map in the good angle of attack and a solid hit before you’re really going to

Get great at directional control so take anything firm here’s the drill I want you to do I’m going to stick an alignment Rod could be the T box could be the bottom of your golf bag make a an impact position or make an address position and just create an impact I

Feel pressure forward I feel my hips turned I what I really feel is I feel my core allowing me to apply pressure to the golf ball or in this case the stick you’ll notice as well that your arms firm up when you do that now a couple of

Cautions when you do this don’t put the hands way forward or move your body back just press a little bit turn your hips a bit feel tension here or feel engagement and pressure in your arms and once you felt that just go over to the side and make some little shots keep duplicating

That make that a regular part of your practice okay to work on Club face the final element here’s the thing I want you to do get a rod on the ground again I’ll just move it over a bit practice on a small scale where the face is a little

Closed or it’s a little open then hit a couple of shots and remember this we don’t want unstable Clon arms through the ball the difference is the heel a little more ahead of the toe for the if if you’re hooking it or coming in where the toes a little more turned down the

Face is a little more Del lofted if you’re fading it not chaotic arm motion again small scale practice each a bit figure out the feel that works for you let me just encourage you for a minute you can do this stuff if you will invest

In that back swing make it simple do the little bit of work at home it takes to start to develop good habits and scale back and do some of these small shots on the Range to start start to sort your impact out I’ve talked gol for 40 years

If there was just some Pat shortcut I’d tell it to you but you’ve got to put a little bit of work in intelligent work best of [Applause] Luck
