Putting the new Kirkland golf ball head to head with the previous model to see if there’s been any improvement in speed, spin or durability.

A few months ago I made a video about the Kirkland golf ball the one available at Costco version two which would have been the commonly available one you know last year um basically Cole’s notes it’s a pretty good ball not the most durable spins a lot if you’re someone that needs

Spin yeah not bad not a bad ball if you’re someone that keeps the ball for three or four rounds cuz you never lose them maybe not the best choice but for the money kind of hard to beat there is a new ball version three ball that came

Out and the claim is that it has improved how has it improved um let’s find out let’s just make a pretty No Frills No Nonsense video I’m going to hit some shots um 54° wedge here we’ll hit some seven irons we’ll hit some drivers let’s see what’s different um

Spinning off the wedges is not a bad thing so that’s certainly not something I need to change all that much I would like to see it still spin off the wedges seven iron I’d love to see it come down quite a bit probably about a club worth

Of Spin and then off the driver it was still a spinny ball so if they’ve reduced the spin off the driver great if after hitting it for 15 minutes it isn’t mangled the way that the the previous model ball would be how be great as well

54° wedge this is the V2 ball let’s hit a couple yeah that spins holy moly so 12,000 spin off of you know a pretty smooth 54 degree wedge it’s a lot uh it’s a lot but again is spin off the wedges a negative no it certainly is not

Version three let’s see um I will say one more thing I would like to have as a bonus would be a little bit better feel um that thing kind of feels like a hollow shell and sounds kind of weird interesting Struck it pretty similar launch angle pretty similar spin

Pretty similar I swung a tiny bit faster that’s why I carried a few yards further nothing wrong with that it’s still got a little bit of that Kirkland feel um it’s got a little bit of that hollow shell clicky feel but it’s not bad you know what it’s not bad

I don’t think the balls change much off the wedges that’s what I think maybe they didn’t intend for it to but this seems like it’s exactly the same okay I’m going to hit a couple more with the version two let’s just confirm but kind of getting the exact same numbers 29 launch 12,000

Spin yeah the new one feels a little bit better it’s not by much um they have the same char characteristic but I do think the new one feels a little bit more solid that thing yeah it sounds it sounds like it’s Hollow it’s weird I don’t think much has changed off the

Wedge which is not bad here’s where I expect and hope to see a difference seven iron uh let’s start with the version two ball I’m expecting to see a seven iron spin in the in the 7000s which for the majority of uh the golfing public it’s not something that’s all that desirable

8,000 okay I underestimated spoke too soon that’s a lot of spin I just swung my seven iron at 103 mph so yeah would I like it to go further than 183 I would if you’re watching this and you’re like I can’t get any spin on my irons I need

More spin on my irons fantastic U it does that and we already knew that so it’s a spinning ball new ball if you spin a th less I will be very happy oh new ball here okay that’s pretty sweet um couple things exact same swing speed exact same uh delivered Loft so

Basically I hit the ball with the same amount of impact Loft on both of those shots which is kind of important um if you’re comparing balls you kind of need to make sure you compare similar strikes similar Lofts just so you don’t skew the numbers so so I think those are two

Pretty similar swings yes I did draw the second one a tiny bit more but it definitely spins less a little spinni on that one might have to go back and forth a couple times it definitely seems like it’s less it’s not a low spin Ball by any means but it should be

Less that struck well 7200 okay this kind of right now is what I get when I hit a prov1x going back to version two here let me see if I can make a similar swing pulled that a bit still spun more interesting I will say it feels a little

Better when you get to the seven r than the wedge but yeah okay we’re pretty confident this is an 8,000 spin kind of guy okay let’s go back to version three we’ve kind of seen that 8,000 spin is pretty much the the version two’s average it’s pretty well there 74 okay

Yeah maybe it’s not a full thousand it might be closer to you know 600 RPMs or so difference hit well left the face a bit open but it’s pretty good yeah okay so here’s what I think after going back and forth a number of times being super

Picky with the face angle and the strike and the Loft and everything I would say it is 6 to 800 RPMs lower in spin off the 7even hour if you play a Kirkland ball and you like it for the spin I think it still spins a lot more than

Most balls do it’s still a high spin Ball but it’s a little bit more uh on the planet now this Kirkland version 2 I found still spun a lot off the big stick um so if they’ve reduced that a little bit that would be a nice Improvement I’d like to see something appreciably

Different there just going to have to be really picky on the strike location with this let’s see what we see let hit really centered okay good it took me a few shots um the first three to be honest were a little toe and a little bit high in the face that’s the

First one that was like dead center and it spins a bit more than I know what my driver would spin with like a Prov one um so delivered LOF 17 hitting up on a couple degrees uh strike was right in the middle my driver with my ball I

Think that would be like 24 2500 spin so again this is not a surprise we already knew this this ball off the driver spins quite a lot more uh several hundred RPMs not ideal for reference here’s me hitting the same driver with a Titus prov1 spins about 500 100 RPMs Less on

The same strike here’s the V3 ball it’s pretty centered I think yeah 26 okay that’s interesting the strike was really good The Loft was the same that 17 Loft we talked about I will say I drew it a little extra so that’s pretty middled there that’s pretty centered it’s kind

Of similar it’s kind of similar nine launch just under 3,000 yeah that’s hit well I hate to say it Kirkland fans but off the driver I think it’s very very similar but you can see how sensitive in general a spin rate is going to be to

Strike location and face angle so is it maybe a tiny bit lower spin off the driver maybe but it’s probably not not all that much different just a tiny bit um the the seven iron was a little bit more significant um and the wedge was

About the same okay so to this point I’m just having a look at both balls in terms of the condition uh we didn’t hit a lot of wedges at the beginning I would say both balls are already showing some pretty significant um cover damage just from

The few wedges that we hit so at the moment they are both equally uh getting wrecked I wouldn’t say one looks better than the other let’s hit a bunch of these they got 58 degree wedge you know really tear some uh little spinny wedges and let’s hit a few with each and see

How they hold up and 90 yard shot that thing is moving lot of spin lot of spin that’s got a lot of spin too 98 how we looking ball oh boy oh boy oh boy oh oh goodness yeah these are brand new sm10 as well so I’m really I’m really

Punishing this ball okay version two is in bad shape it’s looking bad version three are you any better I didn’t mean to swing that hard but sry version three abused you a bit try to keep it to 90 yards that’s better oh boy that’s a little low launch High spin one okay

Say laid the abuse on both of these you know what the version three looks noticeably better they’ve both been scuffed by pretty much every one of those shots uh the the cover’s been left on the face of my wedge uh quite a bit but actual like

Fibers of of cover and ball are like peeling up and off the version two that’s not happening on the version 3 again it doesn’t look great but it doesn’t look terrible considering I just you know took it to a task with a brand new 58 degree wedge with very sharp

Grooves version three is less mangled it isn’t nearly as bad um the ball here in my right hand which is the new one I would still play this maybe for a couple more holes this guy here if you really cared about you know the aerodynamics of

The flight of your shot uh that would probably need to be retired already

  1. The kirkland ball is the perfect preview to when they roll back our balls..basically,we'll be all hitting kirkland balls by 2028…at a much higher cost im assuming..😅spinny balls are not for the majority of amateurs..shrinking in the game in my opinion..

  2. Backward hat wearing Matty is HIM! Loving the content you've been putting out on here and on Instagram!

  3. really good test, Matt, Thanks a bunch.
Question: do you do loft and lie adjustments at Liberty?

  4. I tried the v3 and it felt too firm, low, and spinny. I switched to buying vice pros from lostgolfballs and it’s a significant upgrade (for me) for essentially the same price

  5. Glad to see this, I assume this ball is much better suited to the average Costco customer not swinging 120mph

  6. Good stuff, and basically what I found also. Did you find that you also lost ball speed off the driver as well?? I grabbed a box when I first saw them and really hoped they would be much better, but they're still not a great choice for a high spin player. I really wish someone would make high compression 2 piece balls again, like they did in the 80s and 90s.

  7. All things considered, the Kirkland balls are new to the game and like most anything else, with input from the community and some time, they will most likely improve over the years. Hard to compare something brand new to the game relatively speaking to an established ball like the Pro V 1 that's had years head start. Give it a couple more iterations and you'll have a solid contender.

  8. Would you mind reviewing the new Bridgestone tour b x? Would be interesting to see how much they’ve changed it considering it’s tigers new ball

  9. Your 7 iron results may be more in line with driver results (reduced spin) for guys who aren't so fast? 107 mph on 7 iron is far from average!

  10. It’s a pile of junk! Thanks for the review if cost is a concern for you guys and you want good balls maxfli tour dicks sporting goods

  11. This is a really good video. With today's economy, those Kirkys are a really tempting proposition. They seem to offer 90% of the ProV's performance but at 25% of the cost. I'd love to see a similar comparison but with the Kirkys vs a similarly priced ball! Again, this video was excellent

  12. awesome video Matt, would love to see a more direct comparison to the prov1 as well in terms of durability
