16 schools teams from all around Sri Lanka will fight it out for the Sahara s7s title we have 24 games coming your way on day one of this tournament to kick things off we have Saha College taking on SAS College we have four groups the 16 16 teams that they have
Been divided into four groups with four teams each so uh this will certainly be a great uh tournament to kick off the schools rugby season for the year 2024 and to uh take you through the first few games of day one I have with me rashwan bar good morning rwan good morning
L it’s heading into a very uh memorable day for Ras and everyone at Zyra College this was the earlier pictures today morning at the opening ceremony all teams were there for that opening ceremony 16 teams divided into four groups well organized tournament schools from all over the island has come down
To the race course guest of honor Chief guests and this was the covered trophy brought in by the head prect of Zara College all teams will be playing for that cup the trophy want to start off this year with some silver where all those teams and again some momentum going into the schools
Rugby season for the SRA C we have a very special guest restaurant that is the rugby Shaman Mr Ka Al Dalai it’s a great honor to have such a great figure to be the chief guest of this SRA c7s so as I mentioned earlier coming

We’ve been talking about this yesterday sudar about the safety aspect because you get a team like Royal and they are very well conditioned there they have their supplements on board their players are well looked after and then you get teams like sangala who don’t have access to the same amount of resources and
Their players are not as conditioned and in situations like that you can have these injuries and sometimes maybe career ending injuries pretty early on in the season so um it is something that I think we need to look at in terms of supplementation and conditioning and making sure that players are pretty much
On the same level when they come out onto the pitch because how do you do that though is a different question yeah especially with 16 teams in the top division some of the teams you spoke about among the colleages who have gotten the promotion but the likes of
Science College who have been doing it for season after season in the top league and their spending power is not the same as some of these traditional rugby playing schools so of course we need to really strike a balance because like you said it could be a cending injury that uh comes
Across the other thing that really concerns me about the seven tournaments being played before the 15s sudar I mean we were both forward so we know what it’s like when you have to play sevens rugby and train for sevens rugby it’s not something we enjoy and when you are
Periodizing teams unless you have a really big Squad the training that you have to undergo for Seven’s rugby and then suddenly to be able to switch that up put on enough weight to play the 15th game is there really enough time and do we need to relook at how the school’s calendar
Structur yes I think you’re absolutely sport on that’s why some of the some of the bigger team teams have opted to leave out some of the most of their forwards out of these seven squads and um it it’s not never easy conditioning yourself to be a sevens player and come
15s you need a certain weight to play in your forwards uh you need you need that weight to try and dominate in the contact area and it’s not an easy thing to switch like that so because of that I think most of these bigger teams they’ve opted to keep their forward squads
Separately from the sevens so we might might not see the honest potential what these uh teams can put out I I do agree with you Shak but the only obstacle I believe with the restructure of the calendar is uh the dates when it comes to the exams because the exam cycle has
Really been changed due to the pandemic and various other bureaucratic reasons the moment we can get that sorted I think the school’s calendar will fall back into place well hopefully that can happen sooner rather than later because it’s plenty more to life and the lessons you learn in class and pass through
