Welcome to the official YouTube channel for the Colin coward podcast go on hit the Subscribe button there you go right down there if you want to be among the first to hear my weekly takes NFL college football more right there you know M McCarthy doesn’t work

For me you know how you know how like Russell Wilson got smaller quarterbacks drafted the opposite the inverse could be true where a smaller quarterback fails and people are like whoa whoa whoa when I watch McCarthy he weighs about 200 lb he feels yeah Max he just feels

Too slight I watched Bryce young and I’m like he just doesn’t look the part JJ McCarthy looks like a little taller version of Bryce young where he’s just not thick through the hips it’s like he looks slight like he’s gonna have to really to get to 202 you know you start

Watching Josh Allen on Sunday night and you start watching these these star quarterbacks like they carry 230 235 Manning Brady even Aaron Rogers is like 227 and he looks slender so if you’re if you’re battling to stay above 200 and he’s athletic but he’s not hyper athletic he’s not Kyler Murray he’s not

Making people Miss I don’t think McCarthy to me is like a third round quarterback I I don’t really get it totally agree I mean all this hype about him being a top 10 Prospect is insanity to me Insanity to me to me he looks like a second day player for sure

And a guy that can’t play right away in the NFL one he hasn’t been to play like that in college well in the NFL you have to make throws on third down which they try to avoid at all costs look at the way they played tonight they tried and

They have and you can make the argument well that’s how they play I think they’re a little uncomfortable with having to lean on him where Washington’s the opposite they have to lean on their quarterback and as he’s off they’re screwed where they don’t have to but I’m

With you he obviously has a live arm and he’s a good athlete but to me the frame very thin and I I under no circumstances could I take him in the first round over what he’s done in college doesn’t mean he can’t develop overtime ideally to me

He’s drafted on the second day gets to kind of sit get bigger and kind of progress you know Jimmy garoa a lot of players they get drafted on the second day don’t have to play right away maybe you go to a better situation you get behind you know a guy that’s already a

Starter and you kind of work your way in but this this talk about him being a high first round pick I I I think that’s a little bit of the media you know college football hype machine yeah I think we’re going to have Caleb Williams uh Drake May Jaden Dani

Feel like top 10 bow Knicks will be somewhere like 11 to 16 I think I saw Bo play twice live um there’s a little Drew Brees high accuracy uh he’s athletic he’s pretty cut he’s more athletic than people think but he doesn’t feel like a top six s Pick oh

  1. You're sleeping on JJ. From a skill standpoint, there's nothing he can't do. Also, he's only 20 years old. Drake Maye is 21, Caleb Williams is 22, and Jayden Daniels is 23. Taking a different QB because they are a little fatter is a braindead argument imo. Whatever school gets JJ is going to be extremely lucky. Michigan doesn't go undefeated and win the National Championship without JJ. He's really hard to defend.

  2. Not saying McCarthy is a top ten pick or anything but he’s 5 inches taller than Bryce young and more athletic, cowherd says this about anyone with an athletic build, he said the same thing about the boss’s and chase young… and he has shown his whole college career that he can show up in big moments. To say they’re uncomfortable on third down with him is a joke… this narrative that they can’t rely on him didn’t start til the 2023 Penn state game where Michigans run game and defense were so dominant it would have hurt them more to throw the ball. Jj is 75% completion percentage and over 200 qbr on third downs so this video just shows these two have no idea what they’re talking about.

Great defenses fail when their offenses can’t keep them off the field. Last year in the TCU game it became a shoot out(by the way he threw for 343 yards and two tds) shoot out means the defense is constantly running on and off the field tired. It seems after that game harbaugh decided they’re going to keep the ball on the ground and grind anyone in there way to dust. Simply put they have an identity and it doesn’t matter if they have the greatest qb to ever throw a football, they’re going to keep it on the ground.

if you really watched jj’s film you’ll see that every game he will have a handful of throws where you just go, “wow, he can put the ball anywhere he wants it” he regularly will lace a missile through three defenders and over a referees shoulder into a narrow window where only his receiver can get it.

I think jj not going early first round will be a blessing. Less pressure to succeed early, he’ll probably end up on a better team, he has an elite arm and he’s more athletic than he gets credit for, he makes great decisions with the ball as well. It wouldn’t surprise me if he was one of the most successful quarterbacks that comes out of the upcoming draft.

  3. JJ honestly could benefit from another year in college he has NFL level talent, but I don't think he's a 1st round pick he needs to develop more.

  4. Caleb Williams and Michael Penix can’t take the beating in the NFL. Drake Maye is best QB in draft. Bo. Nix is 30 years old

  5. If I was the Lions or some team like that with a QB I would draft McCarthy in the second and take a chance on him and have him sit for 2 or 3 years.

  6. As much as I love Colin and 3 & Out, these guys also said Washington's offense would be too much for Michigan's defense.
JJ will rise during the draft parade; as always he needs to go to a team that develops players well, and there are few of those, and they don't need qb's: Baltimore, Miami, San Fran, Rams.

  7. Some very smart NFL guys are comparing Mccarthy to a more athletic Drew Brees. The way he processes and can throw into tight windows. Never thought about this comp but it makes total sense. He may be headed to Denver.

  8. My prediction: JJ is not ready for NFL yet. Michigan wolverines won the national championship because defense and running back. JJ will be in NFL not for long, 5 years or so.

  9. It’s scary to draft a qb that has to have a mental health coach on the sideline. Js. With that said he will still get drafted in the 2nd round. No doubt. Probably wearing a falcon on his helmet.

  10. He’d benefit for getting drafted later. He can go to a good organization that can groom him.

  11. Colin is wrong about the weight. You do NOT have to be a hunk to play quarterback. You can, but it has nothing to do with the skills that make a great or even a good quarterback. And no, Middlekauff is wrong about J.J. not being ready to play in the pros. For God's sake, there i no power 5 football program in the country which fields a more NFL style offense than Jim Harbaugh's Michigan did. That is what it was known for. So, you have to be ignorant about Michigan's style of play, or just ignore it, in order to knock J.J. for not being ready to play in an NFL style offense! Middlekauff thinks whether Michigan liked to throw on 3rd down is more important than the fact that their entire approach was to play an NFL style offense. So, you see, this one aspect of play calling, for Middlekauff, is more important than the entire offensive approach. I'm sorry, but that's a stupid argument, missing the entire forest because you don't like one tree. And aside from that, all you get from Colin is not arguments but ATTITUDE. When J.J. gets picked in the first round I wonder if Middlekauff will come back on and say, hey, I was full of it.

  12. Do you really think if he’s sitting at the end of the 1st round, San Fran won’t take him as an improvement over Brock Purdy?

  13. Wait to see how wrong you guys are. J.J. is 20 years old 6'3+ and will be a solid 235 by the 2025 season. He will be a top 5 QB by 2027 or sooner.

  14. Yeah I'm guessing you felt dumb watching the combine today seeing how big JJ actually is. Kid looks pretty stout to me my guy
