So it’s Danny flexen here for seconds out theyd like to be joined by my good friend and until recently uh super middleweight Contender John Ryder John how you doing mate I’m good mate I’m good enjoying retired life um yeah just adjusting yeah it’s been a little while
Now since you decided to hang up the gloves we didn’t talk on that week in particular so you probably we’ve been asked a lot of these questions before but what was it that finally convinced you it was time to walk away from the SP
Eff to get up off my B four times I think no listen I think um I think this was always I think around this age for me was was going to be the cut off point um obviously thought I had a lot more left than I actually did and I think the
The Canelo fight took a lot out of me um and the m fight was just a step too far did you get any idea in Camp that maybe it was starting to go a bit no not really I um Camp started off world then we we moved to the states in
Early January and listen it was it was hard to adjust but we was all finding it hard to adjust to the time zone um the Gym’s hot out there it’s tough to tough to get used to and just you put it down to just the the the camp just
Getting to and just being tired and being every bit of 35 a.m. so just put it to that but yeah I think in the ring listen take nothing away from gear he was he was good that night he he made the necessary changes um I didn’t think he’d be as good as he
Was and he was he was very good so what convinced you that it was TW to go rather than just a bad night at the office um you can put Canelo down to a bad night the office like things not going right um You can’t have two of them in a
Road do I mean I I wanted to go out a level I’ve been operating at and I was lucky enough to get the Mong fight after the Cano defeat and that that was keeping at that level that I’ve been operating that and for me now it doesn’t
Make sense to be be dropping down levels and be and be getting beaten up did you have it in your head if this fight doesn’t go my way it will be time to go or was it after the fight it just kind of came to you straight away right
Now as the time to go no listen in the buildup it was Win Lose or Draw again it was as as fight week was getting close it was like this this could be it Win Lose or Draw wow so yeah it was um it’s tough being away from home obviously young
Family missed them um it’s a kind of not people not many people admit up to but it’s it’s tough being away from your family especially over the Christmas period in the gym sping Christmas day but listen we we do that it’s the ulate sacrifice in this sport how hard is it
For you who’s grown up in the sport to to have come so close to a world title and then have to retire having not finally won it listen I think boxing is one of them Sports where people are never never truly satisfied I was with
Joe Cino in Dubai last week and um he he’s obviously a two-time world champion and he wants what I’ve had the big fights and I wanted what he got the world titles but listen was um we I’ve been lucky enough to to fight for two ining World titles win both of them um
Thought for the world title on two occasions one I was unfortunate and the other one I lost to a pound-for-pound great is it a bit of a comfort the unfortunate one obviously it was horrendous at the time when the decision went against you against Callum Smith
But now you’ve retired is it a bit of a comfort because you can always say to yourself look I should have been a world champion that night most people think that it isn’t it isn’t because I mean you can get that line and it can be
Your the thing you go back to and I suppose feel yourself with Dread and just really really eat up at you but I’m I’m past it now I’m I’m satisfied with what I went on to to go and do and win another injury more title and put myself
In line for for Canelo yeah do you feel you got absolutely everything you could out of the potential you had at the start uh yeah I feel like I got more out of boxing than boxing go out of me um I think that’s always the wor with boxing
You can stay involved too long and and boxing that ultimately does end up taking more from you but I feel like I’ve had great people around me um end of my career I had the best team right around me possibly with Tony Dan Charlie um Sam doing all the the massage the car
Prac and staff and even Paddy with the the pr stuff and it was just a great team and the plan from what I heard at the time when you retired was to help Tony out in the gym and stuff is that still the case that’s still the case
Yeah I’ve been in my first week back this week I’ve done two days solid um and I’m enjoying it bit of pads um from the training side it’s nice it’s um it’s it’s not eating up my whole day um I’m able to I was away last week my family
It was nice just to be present in the holiday and not worried about what’s next and just enjoy my time ultimately we saw Kevin Mitchell do this are you going to be training out of that gym and eventually have your own stable Fighters uh listen at the moment it’s
It’s time to assist Tony and learn from him and and pick his brains and go from there but I mean I’ve got no real plans to go and open my own gym and whatnot but I’m happy where I am at the moment and happy to learn on the job and what
Else will you be spending the majority of your time doing obviously you have time with your family and helping Tony but what what are the other projects what else you got on the agenda burping and fighting mate have you’re not done that for the last 20 years then
In yeah know um no just keep busy um obviously enjoy family time um might start playing a bit more golf because I’m always missing out on these these golf days with the boys and they’re playing golf after training so I might start a bit going to the driving range
And practicing a bit and yeah honing my skills good stuff any kind of Ambitions outside of boxing like stuff that you’ve never been able to do because you’ve been in the sport yeah I’m thinking about starting a boxing channel to blast you out the water what are you going to call it I
Don’t know second’s best or something second best there you go start with that got off the ground is it you’ve W the White Flag already that’s it um did want to talk to you as well we’ve saw recently Canelo your old friend old foe whichever way you want to
Look at it he’s left apparently PBC once again yeah to rejoin with another friend of yours in Eddie Hearn what did you make of all that you know he signed a three fight deal he’s had one fight with them and they come back again apparently um it’s obviously happy Freddy happy for
Canelo um makes good sense it’s obviously it’s a shame it’s not worked out at PBC and the the fights haven’t materialized but yeah I think um they had a good work relationship and I’m glad to see it continue do you think there’s anyone out there that beats Canelo at Super
Middleway um I thought it might have been Ben Ben aidz easy yeah bidz yeah I thought it might have been Benz but obviously talking about him moving up to 175 now um and I think that’s smart I think he can compete with the likes of bivel and BBV
I think they’ll be great fights imagine him against pbv that’ll be an absolute shootout I don’t think he’s got the best out of himself for for a period of years now making the the 168 limit so I think you’re going to see a a real Mexican monster at 175 now and talking of
Mexican monster it’s widely speculated that Canelo will take his famous made of four date CCO Deo against Jamie Mia ha Mia apologies ha yeah yeah good old ha um you know both of them very well you thought both of them in recent times how do you kind of weigh that one
Up um I think it’s a Canelo win for me I don’t think it’d be an easy fight um but I think it’s a it’s a fight can can win a win pretty handily I don’t know if you’ll get him out of there but Mia’s tough he’s got a good chin um he’s
Fit and he he throws a lot of shots but I think canelo’s that bit too smart um they’ll just come down to the miles the clock for Canelo I believe do you think it’s come too early potentially for M or do you think even at his potential if he
Reaches it he still wouldn’t be can um listen he’s 43 fights in there I mean how much more does he need to do um I think Canelo is just a a oneoff um obvious not oneoff but he’s he’s he’s one of the kind he’s in a league of his
Own and I think he’ll he’ll get the bit between his tee for this fight and it’s it’s a great fight for Mexico other names that have been mentioned for Canelo potentially in September you’ve got Edgar banga Chris Eubank Jr at one point uh Terrence Crawford of course
Coming up from welterweight do you see any of them or anyone else out there I haven’t mentioned giving Canelo a test at 168 uh probably the best out of them for the for the test obviously the weight difference in him and Terence Crawford is ridiculous and there there’s
No I if it makes any sense whatsoever I think Eubank could have moments um I think he’s ultimately probably too small as well um never was a big 168 Fighter um and I think banga is a big fight for the Puerto Rican Mexican Connection um
I’m sure that i’ do well um but I mean it’s a good performance in Banger the weekend but not on the level of Canelo so if Canelo stays at 168 in your view does he only lose when he gets old I think it’s just yeah just what
He’s got left in the tank and I think he he seems to think he’s got another five years left in him so he he knows better than the rest of us but I think um you don’t know until it’s too late after in boxing and I found out that
Way yeah well it’s fair enough um yeah talking of Canelo was he the best you fought in your career um yeah I’d say he is yeah I mean I thought Billy Joe was technically so naturally gifted um Danny Jacobs um they’re all world class opposition operators um Canelo was there
Yeah I mean he doesn’t achieve what he’s achieved in the sport by by luck he’s he’s worked hard he’s grafted hard and he’s he’s done things to hard way at times he’s took his knots and come out from defeat and he is where he is for a reason who hit the
Hardest um sery kitki wow okay that GE that GE whack fair enough sure there’s a few few Brits can V for that as well I power yeah he can really whack yeah what was your proudest moment proudest moment um winning in Vegas was good um but listen getting up
And fighting against canel walking that ring in front of all the Mexicans cheering for me was was a great feeling as well and aside from the Callum Smith decision because you had no influence on that any regrets um no no listen like I said I got more
From boxing it got from me um I’ve met some of the best people from in boxing and some real lifelong friends I mean fill your head with fill your ego up um yeah i’ met some of the best people um I can go up and down the country I can go
Around the world and speak to people from what I’ve met him boxing and arranged to meet him and be be shown around so I’m fortunate in that way um but yes it’s been a great experience now you have retired would you like to do more obviously you were
Joking I hope about setting up another video channel but would you like to do more TV stuff like Punda tree and that kind of thing yeah that’d be nice I’d like to become um I like Edis the sack Frank Smith and become he number two um you good at making
T don’t know n am I good at making tea am I good at making tea no useless silence silence says it all I’m very good at ordering on delivery though just don’t insult any Builders and you’ve got a shot it good on you no but seriously would
You like to do that for like sky or theone or whoever because you got good for the game haven’t you yeah done a bit of um done a bit of the commentary for the nextg show the other day on the early before the Bell fights and yeah I
Enjoyed it so just like a fighter you’ve got to progress now from beyond the bell to you know the undercard of the main TV show and then eventually Main Event that’s it that’s it mate and we’ve gone from uh the old box station Studio doing the old uh appearance of Miranda car we
On Internet TV so yeah baby steps sport was it sports tonight live was that what it was called oh I can’t remember it was a long time ago was it it was a long time ago I had dark air then dark yeah is mate really appreciate not just today but just
Covering your career generally it’s been an absolute pleasure boxing news obviously originally and and now it seconds out never a dull moment bit of banter as well loved it that’s it mate yep much appreciated no thank you mate up the Flex pest I’m glad you brought us back down
To earth there it getting bit too emotional yeah I it’s getting a bit emotional a you yeah I was tearing up not anymore appreciate it mate and yeah let’s keep in touch no definitely cheers Mate

There are a lot of people who believe Crawford can best Canelo. Mainly deluded yanks might I add. At 160 he has a slim chance, at 168 he has virtually no chance against Canelo.
Mainly the we Wuz Kangs believe Crawford can win delusional asf
🧢🧢
Respect everyone opinion but he no expert and his boxing iQ is not that high to truly understand the sport
If Crawford had a chance then he would’ve moved up on classes. Stop it guys please. 😂
Canelo would stomp Crawford….
Great interview, nice one.
Crawford would smash canelo
Canelo pretty much ended this Gladiator's career Much respect to him but he took a beating in that fight
Crawford is a dominant fighter at 147…but anybody who thinks Alvarez has faded so much that cant land consistently on Crawford…is biased beyond reality. Crawford is a dawg..he lives in the pocket…he gets hit and hurt..but his skill and firepower get him out of losing fights as often as not. Against Alvarez Crawfords power advantage is gone ..in no small part due to Alvrez's chin and defensive skills
at the moment nobody can beat Canelo,,,,he is too good and smart
The Crawford fan boys are the most stupid ppl today in boxing… Crawford run away from GGG, Lara, Virgil, Floyd and many more… He fought only Uber drivers, and he is old looking for Canelo's Child-support.
Credit to Eddie, spending so much time with a guy who's done with career and has nothing to gain. Don't see any other peomoter doing that. If I was a fighter he would be my promoter my whole career. He is the best…
Crawford does make no sense but this is how far Canelo has fallen by reducing the people he can have big fights with by avoiding certain people. Either way, Canelo v Crawford is a mega fight PPV & hype wise.
There have been MUCH worse fighters who somehow managed to win world titles. I can think of several. John Ryder was unfortunate enough to face an all-time great in Canelo; and a budding superstar in Jaime Munguia. Nothing to be ashamed of. He's gettig out at the right time. No need for him to be a stepping stone.
I would install Canelo as a 2-or-3 to 1 favorite over Jaime Munguia if they signed for the fight…but no more than that. Munguia has a great chin, A/A- power, and is six years younger than Canelo. A Munguia win would not surprise me.
He's made millions..invested a now enjoying Life.
Look… Ryder at least got the big fights and made money in the process, I think that is a great thing and now he can be a comentator and make additional money in boxing – What is more inportant in life?
lol, Crawford got hurt and knocked down by a mean machine at 147!!!! you want him to go up 3 to 4 for weight classes to run away and survive. weight classes exist for a reason please Canelo would put Old Man Crawford on life support.
