Will NFL teams REGRET passing on J.J. McCarthy in NFL draft? | NFL on FOX POD

All right Bruce one last one for you and I think it’s about what I think is maybe the most interesting Prospect in this draft and that is the quarterback of the reigning National champ Michigan Wolverines JJ McCarthy and I just I’m I’m so fascinated by the story here

Because I mean look the winning speaks for itself the talent speaks for itself but the debate comes in with what Michigan asked of its quarterback last year clearly he was good enough to win a National Championship but I also think there’s a lot of people that are say

Well I don’t know that the tape Stacks up with what some of these other prospects have done you’re as plugged in as anybody you see as much college football as anybody what do you make of of JJ McCarthy and where he might eventually wind up in this draft I like

JJ as a first round quarterback I don’t know if he’s a top 10 quarterback but the stuff that we’ve seen from him he’s a really good athlete he can really run he throws on the run really well that translates um he’s really competitive he is a good leader he has he’s a winner

You see that like I I think back to some of my experiences around him we did a lot of Michigan games I also you know wrote a lot about Michigan and I remembered in the 2022 season a few weeks before they were going to play Ohio State remember they beaten Ohio

State once at that point and it was in a snowy game and it was in an arbor and I remember JJ gave me a quote which was very confident about what they you know how the Rivalry had turned and how now that you know just going to keep going

To keep beating them down kind of thing and after I got the phone I was like that’s going to be bullet and board material and I was like I could see that blowing up in JJ’s face because the game was in Columbus and everybody was like

Here comes payback and last year was a fluke well what happened was Blake corm was hurt and Donovan Edwards even though he played and played really well he was banged up in the game was playing with the soft cast on his hand JJ made some

Big throws and led that team and they W on and won that game going away and they they’ve only Built off that I think you know he’s younger than some of these quarterbacks but I think he’s he had to do a lot of stuff that Michigan requires

Of its quarterback footwork wise that is not easy for a lot of guys to come in and learn all that they ask their quarterback to do in that offense I think he’s really smart the other thing that um you know will be interesting is from talking to some NFL coaches here in

Indie one concern I got from one of the guys was you know they think almost he throws every ball kind of the same where you’re wondering does he layer this can he do that there’s like a lot of different pitches that they sometimes want to see this particular coach was

Like I didn’t see enough of that so we’ll see where that goes I after you know seeing him for a couple of years and seeing his development and seeing kind of how he approaches this I think I think J.J McCarthy will be a good NFL quarterback I just don’t know if he’s

Going to be a good NFL quarterback if he you know lot so much depends on what the situation he goes into sure but I definely like him I think there’s a lot to like about him not just athletically but intangibles wise I think that’s what makes it so interesting too is Assuming

He’s not the number one or number two overall pick now the whole league is is up for grabs you know I mean any the Kansas City Chiefs obviously that’s where everybody goes when you talk about Patrick Mahomes and the infrastructure that was around him it’ll be fascinating

To see what caliber of Team winds up with JJ m what caliber of coaching staff I can’t wait to see it but just the the range of outcomes make it very interesting for Me

  1. Well, let’s look a TD stat from last season. In first 8 games he threw 18 tds. Then UM gets blasted for cheating. The next 7 games he throws 4 total TDs with MR Spyguy removed from the sidelines. Coincidence? I think not.

  2. He makes the plays needed to win, not pad his stat sheet. He takes what the defense gave him and when OSU went all in on stopping the run in '22 in Columbus after getting run over in '21, JJ passed for three long touchdowns and then ran in another. When Michigan needed a length of the field drive with just over 4 minutes left in the Rose Bowl, he led them down the field and threw the tying TD pass. You saw how the players on the team loved him and responded to his leadership. Arm strength, mobility, able to read defenses and use all of his offensive weapons. He is team first. He is a class act. What NFL franchise doesn't want that type of face to their team leading them towards championships? Absolutely they will regret not drafting him.

  3. Who cares? Most picks don’t work out anyway, meaning the teams don’t know what they’re saying about Caleb or JJ. So it doesn’t matter wherever and whenever he gets drafted. He will have to work hard and show them.

  4. JJ will prove to be the best QB in this class. He won 3 big 10 championships and a national. He didn't have any of the big name receivers some of the other guys had. He elevated the guys he had and proved he is a winner….

  5. Well let’s see, all he’s done is go UNDEFEATED in the same season he won the national title and he’s the THE BEST PLAYER IN COLLEGE FOOTBALL HISTORY BY FAR AS WELL so yes I KNOW teams will regret it if they pass on him.

  6. JJ will improve in the nfl more than any other qb in this class. He's got the brains and guts that these other guys don't possess.
