Hello there and you’re very welcome along to another episode of the football P I’ve got Patty Andrew and James adun who beside me again James I’d like to put it on the record that you got one prediction right last weekend you know what it

Was um Ross com no you said to be a load of golds in cow Park and and that there was way more chances as well King Khan wow what a performance yeah no and it’s been pleasantly surprised at how well double uh it’s a great result for him obviously

Uh performance- wise it thought was very good obviously but for the king most certainly he kind of he was hinting at it the week before against Ross Comon he’ seven points he was staying on the Square and doubl were getting the ball into him as fast as humanly possible

Which is obviously to to his play to his strengths and I thought Saturday night again uh it was an exceptional performance um there was lots of positives for Dublin uh but that the return to for of Khan at that level because remember if we’re being honest

And I think Khan himself towards the end of the last season he probably wasn’t at his Peak performance-wise um and dou still managed to win the alland Khan and not just KH we kind of go into it more depth uh individual performances and the team performance

But Khan at that level is a completely different dimension to this doubling attack um he’s been used in the most efficient way I’m sure he enjoys the way he’s being used as well and we seen on Saturday night what he can do against like Foley is one of the one of the top

Defenders in the game um and C just seems to be he’s in a really good space at the minute that confidence that ede seems to be back in his play and the team around him are really playing to a strengths as well so it was a very very

Satisfying night for dou supporters yeah James um take your carry Jersey off for a second how good is it to watch Conor Kalen in full flight as a GIC football fan it is it is a trait to be fair I must say he is a super super player and

You know one thing that I always think of of top forwards they can operate in areas of little to no space and Thrive like some forwards they need a lot of space to be able to make a run and can they need to see a lot of space for

Their brain to work efficiently do you know what I mean whereas the top top players KH especially he his brain activity when it’s very tight and congested is just so dangerous and it was it was actually when it when it hit me the most was for his third goal when

There was when fenon got it to Fenton got anyway brought it back in I forget who slipped it to him but I thought bugler slipped it to him yeah I think it was F bugler was it and then and then buger slipped at him but Jason

Just switched off was it yeah Jason just switched off for a second because it was so tight he thought there’s no danger here I know where Khan is the ball is there we’re fine but Khan is just a step ahead and just gets the step in on goal

And then finishes it when Jason couldn’t get back I just thought that his his sharpness when there’s no space is so dangerous reminding me of those goals when he broke true Patty against terona Mayo when he when he first broke true that that type of goal getting at the

Top of the D true to Heart of the defense and yeah and it comes back to to where where is he most dangerous where can Dublin get the ball where he’s going to do the most damage so there’s definitely a team element to bit that cohesion and attack which I think has

Been much better from Dublin at the start of this season um but you does it matter who’s 13 and 15 yeah and we get to that it does um the sharpness Jimmy you said that’s the key that he has the perfect physique for this he is so

Powerful we seen him do this in hurand probably to even more of an extent where he’s so direct and he has that low Center gravity and unbelievable stength he is so strong so difficult to shake off but if you look towards the end of last season and even the Manan game from

A month ago the opening game of The League where he probably was in a sharp that that comes with confidence like that he he always has the physique he’s strong he’s fast he’s powerful he’s direct his mentality but when you’re confidence you you notice it’s like you

See those things you do you you’re like this is on you’re telling you’re backing yourself whereas if you’re a little bit off or you have knocks and diggles or you’re just not really playing well you hesitate yeah and when Khan doesn’t hesitate and that’s when he’s so so

Sharp those tight spaces to him I bet you that feels like a huge gap you know and that’s that’s the difference of confidence you can see that where there’s no doubt there’s no hesitation from him whatsoever it’s I’m on here I’m back on myself and Saturday was a

Brilliant example of that and it’s that sharpness that confidence that he has in his game and not just any forward when they’re like that not that it’s easy but but it feel it comes a lot easier to get get in those convert those scoring chances and Saturday was a perfect example of that

For KH I it wasn’t just Khan and I had what aan for Maris would describe as the best vantage point in Crow Park PTY you might agree tier seven Press Box looking down and I got to see the entire Dublin forwards in unison like what stood out

To me most was actually Patty Small and yeah just the voracious hunger of the man that he was just like he actually forced to turn over from one of Ryan’s kickouts that nearly turned into another goal uh he scored two brilliant points in the first half third and the second

Bugler was on fire Kenny was really playing well really really proactive that chemistry seemed to exist what talk to me about the chemistry and the makeup of the front six because you would have played in loads of different variations yeah and this is if you look towards the

End of last season Dublin for forward line was cost L Khan and basale um and I would say they there are three players who like to stay inside and are all Direct in their own way they’re all out andout scores what the other night you the half forward line of Scully uh bugler

And Ross McGary and then Kieran Khan and Patty Small so Kieran naturally drifts out so that gives a little bit more space to Khan he’s the Ultimate Team player and Patty Small you’re right he works his for Corner forward the work rate of that guy his power his Pace his

Attitude and try to get the ball back very similar to Paul Manion in that regard where he’s probably as important in a defensive setup and and I think the safer Corner forward but he supplements if you’re on a full forward line and you’re a killer like con is having

Someone like Patty Small and the way he plays and approaches forward play is a brilliant compliment to to an outout scorer like KH paty doesn’t really mind if he doesn’t score 10 points Kieran naturally is going to drift out and be that type of playmaker and you’re right

The the other positive for Dublin I thought bugler was exceptional on the transition I think he was a key element I think Jack o’ Conor references Kerry were wiped in the middle third and I thought bugler was exceptional and N Scully who to be fair has been in and

Out of the team and he will be very frustrated and sure D he was frustrated with him and dou supporters are looking and going Scully has so much talent and he probably hadn’t reached the height of his Allstar year A couple of years ago but I thought Saturday night he was

Exceptional as well work great link play again he’s such a key cog in a forward line that’s cohesive so one the Personnel probably the other five forwards are happy enough to let someone like Khan be the main man H that’s probably slightly different with costlo and bascal who are still exceptional

Players but in terms of we’re talking about that slickness up front um I thought that worked really well so the setup around them I thought the form of individual players is a massive Plus for Desi Farrell um I thought Kerry couldn’t deal with that middle third and we’ll

Get into to carry now in a minute or two but you’re right the environment around KH and that cohesion really really helped him it’s very difficult for for a guy to score a hatrick at this level purely on his own Instinct you need to of course have the talent and the the

Skills that Khan has but the creation of space the work rate of the other forwards around them and just the cohesion in the whole Dublin attack that all plays at the con in the form that he’s in and the biggest thing lads they are kicking the ball

Into them they everyone is on the same page it’s like get this ball into them and there’s more space because Ken’s drifting out naturally Patty Small is doing over and back the runs off the ball that creates more space and that’s the everyone’s on the same page you see

It in the double players body language that middle third their first option is to scan in yeah definitely that directness has definitely come back to the H pass and the Really lateral play of maybe 18 months ago where where doubl were really struggling and it seemed a

Bit flat they flipped that on his head it’s it’s interesting to see that it’s risks first how far can we get this ball inside because we have him in there and their space and that helped create Khan obviously did work finishing it but the environment around the cohesion and that

Attack your spot on was was a massive Plus for Desi far and double James can we Linger on that chemistry for a minute because it’s going to feed some of the conversation later on when we get to other attacking units throughout your career whether it be at Club level

College County there’s probably been times where it’s happened naturally or been seamless with some of the players around you or is it always something that has to be worked on because it’s actually funny enough Paul Galvin picked this out as well he didn’t feel like the bascal Costo KH uh chemistry suited KH

Last year so jam what what would your read be on chemistry amongst forwards I think a lot of the time it’s more natural than you’d then you’d realize I don’t think the top fellas need need to go into a room and talk you do this this you do that or they need

That much time to to work on it it’s like they have a mutual appreciation of what each other are good at and what the other person can do for each other like I think you can kind of over overanalyze that a bit sometimes you just need to to

Work on or just kind of work on different combinations of fellas and see who naturally clicks like of all even when you talk about like Strikers in the prip they always say we didn’t really talk about it it was just a natural a natural on that shimmy you’re spot on

Because you look at those six double and forwards none of them are being asked to do like their a game what they’re all naturally good at is what they were doing on Saturday night like you’re not Patty Small naturally plays that way he wouldn’t have to be told we need to show

Really hard we need to drop you don’t need to tell K unle Kenny we want you to come out create that space and be a link player that is their aame so they’re not sacrificing they’re not Desi Farrell isn’t sitting there all week with them going you need to do this this this

Because Khan is going to be there they all natur they might some sort of framework but that’s that’s all their natural game and that’s why I agree Jimmy it’s not a case the D York and Andy Cole it just happened because it’s they just compliment each other their

Actual styles of play compliment each other and KH was the beneficiary of them but Khan Khan was sharp as anything against Ros Coman as well I could tell that there was a couple times he got the ball turned over the back boom no messing around and it’s like it was like

Just something clicked with him the last couple of weeks and the last day he was absolutely unplayable but that is I reckon that’s the best I’ve seen Dublin play in a long time now you could say kry were hopeless I mean it’s not it’s not unfair to say that Carri had an

Absolute M first half did not get up to the pitch of it when we were doing our predictions last week and we said who’d win I thought carry will want this more and we’ll dig out a result and we’ll win but that wasn’t the case Dublin showed

So much desire so much intensity they’re tackling their defending was awesome and carry were completely standoffish and did not get to that that Tempo and then Dublin won both kickouts comfortably like I thought they did one very clever thing but I couldn’t believe the carry got caught with it was when they were

Taking the kick out doublin went into a lovely um 444 no on their kick they went into the cluster or a hudler whatever everyone I couldn’t believe car went around the cluster right and then everyone is expecting if you’re say you’re a forward and the the kick out

Team goes into cluster you expecting the cluster to shoot in every different direction and then you you follow but the cluster stayed in the cluster and your man andin had two massive channels to hit and Carri were so naive to it and then Dublin were getting the kick out off sauntering down

The field and putting it over the barar without being touched I just couldn’t believe it kry had so much work on the kickoff but you know this is kind I was leaving cow Park I chat the couple ads after like the kickout is massively important but and Dublin on their own

Kick out and on the opposition kick out it was a massive massive Focus for teams and and I know Kerry placed this emphasis on it as well particularly against Dublin I couldn’t believe how naive Kerry were with that it was just so easy and you’re just thinking k a

Troll r at this like they’re not that bad Jacko Conor knows like they’re roach to that kickout cluster is one of the most slam dunk kickouts every team does it there’s a way to play against that and kry were just it was way too easy it just looked wrong and that had me

Thinking going K don’t give a about this that’s what it looked like there’s no way come Championship carry will be as naive on the kick out I just I think they had no work I Hest think they had no work done in even they work on it

It’s so obvious that what they were doing was wrong like they’ve experienced the only explanation it’s the only explanation it was like they had no voice there because kilan B is New D yeah okay and they just couldn’t no it’s not not their fault at all but you

Have to very much work as a unit and they did oh yeah totally and Dublin Dublin pissed out I don’t think Dublin could believe how easy that was they couldn’t there was honestly there was one time the hanling kicked it to to his left hand side and it was for a mer and

Over the bear in the space of about three seconds it was same move no cont Shane Ryan had must happened four times is desperately sprinting back 60 y cuz he tried to join a press that was disjointed and the ball goes at the other end of the field it kind of

Created a sense of panic and Chaos in car’s game up until that third quarter they were if your kick out is right it gives you so much control over the whole game yeah you just you’re I don’t think they have a lot done on that I think Dublin won six of six of

Carries and they they turned them over a couple times but I think if you can win your own kick out it guarantees you possession it guarantees you to play the way you want to play for that for that period of time and if you can put pressure on the opposition it makes them

Uncomfortable so you’re Los both of them if you’re losing both of them you have no it affects everything because it means you can’t tackle as a unit like there was a couple of times that doublin had the ball and they were just hand passing it and a couple of carry fillers

Were trying their balls off to get it back sprinting but they were just they were like dogs chasing a tennis ball you know it was over and back because they didn’t have that that kind of unity because they were all over the place from from the kickouts it was just it

Was just off a little bit I think it can be fixed but it was just so off the last kickouts are Jacko con will know that and there’s experienced players in there like carry do a lot of work against Dublin’s kickouts because they know how critical

It is on Dublin’s side I want to give serious praise here for doubling go 444 against Shane RS kick him Shane Roy’s excellent goalkeeper and I remember we’ve played car loads of times and had serious trouble getting Steals on Shane R’s kick out doublin push basically 12 players inside Carry’s half really

Really aggressive and I’m sitting there and I’m in the halfway line I’m looking in that’s an unbelievably ballsy approach to take against any team but particularly against Kerry and I look to the left and in Dublin’s half is Shaun Shay and David Clifford man on man one

Of the markers his own Merchant who’s about three foot tall and he’s Man Mark at David Clifford the other marker is Tio clany who’s played twice for Dublin ever and they are left two on two with two of the best forwards in the game that is an unbelievably risky approach to take how

Many teams are willing to play that percentage play against Kerry or against Dublin and I have said this how many episodes are this show if we don’t have I’d say we’re up on 12 20 now Patty a lot and since day one I have said this

Beating the room and people give me lip about this you cannot win the biggest prizes playing conservatively conservative you you might win a Provincial Championship you might win an hell burn cup with Longford but if you’re going to win the all arand you have to attack and be brave and car and

Dublin to their credit play that way they are in no way interested in anything other than Sam McGuire and that approach from Dublin on yes it’s a league game but it just shows a mentality from Desi Farrell who’s finally getting a little bit of credit that he deserves off the back of win

Last but to take that approach I I personally I’m looking going oh my God merch oneon-one with Clifford tio clany hasn’t played at this level and he’s Merk and sha Shay but that’s Double’s attitude will’ll deal with and they get caught in one of the plays Shane a

Breaks over beyond the press and kry are essentially nearly in on goal but that mentality we are attacking we don’t care yeah David Clifford’s unbelievable but we’re backing our Defender to D that approach the mentality that’s why Dublin and kry have it as well kry will go and

Attack every game and that is why I’d still have them and yeah kri K were bad the other night where that’s going to sit in the grand schem of things come the all Ireland Series in three or four months time is kind of irrelevant but it just shows the

Mentality at how of Dublin to take that approach against one of the most dangerous teams in the country that snapshot shows where Dublin’s head is at and I think that was one of the most pleasing things yeah James before I ask you how Owen merchin defined the laws of

Physics in that man ameran job and Clifford I would like to say that Clifford probably should have squared one goal chance that he put wide he blazed two other goal chances over the be we could have had one hattick against another at the weekend mhm but what did

You make it that bravery that risk from Dublin to do that I was shocked at the at the matchup but the thing is when you’re amking Clifford and Clifford did didn’t have his best head last day far from it missed a couple of chances but

If you if you put someone kind of big and Burly on Clifford he’s too sharpened and plays like a small man he’ll he’ll toast him and if you put someone small and Nimble on him he’s too big and strong so like you have to have kind of a hybrid for for Clifford but

They tried merching on him it was a risk and I think the Clifford did have the beating of him he had a couple of goal chances but car shooting was just off the conversion the difference in conversion between kry and Dublin Dublin was so clinical Carri would just that bit off it but

Carot the first 13 shots the only shot in this was from Khan tomby we said this last week they were unbelievably propagate in front the goal against Ross cin the week before really poor particularly in that first half and I do I’ve been in played in those games

Before without a doubt that would have been addressed when they were reviewing that game bad shots wrong players taking shots bad areas of the pitch I knew Dublin’s conversion rate would be a lot better this week did I expect it to be um as as clinical as it was in the first

Half but that was another positive that you could see okay what happened against Russ common what lessons can be learned and how quickly can the Improvement be implemented and that again is credit to the coaches and for the players to kind of take that on Patty Small did not have

A very good game against Ross Comon and what about that bounce back and that’s he was exceptional the other night and the positive from Dublin side yes okay K was exceptional Fenton dominated Midfield but it is those guys like say maybe around they’re not the front liners but par small bugler

Scully getting back to it Teo clany another big game for him that experience like if you were Desi far looking in they going they’re they’re massive posi we know what Khan can do we know what Fanta can do but all of a sudden the so-called Supporting Cast they’re really

Really stepping up their game as well so um well this weekend Lads we are taking a little trip down to clery football Patty you’re covering terrone carry with me on Sunday terrone B better I’m looking forward to that game now I have to say so to move on from Dublin kryy on Saturday

Night just put on the record like called the terrone a be Mayo I don’t know what you boys predicted but we’ll just leave it at that terrone James turned it on and in the first half and in in in the first point of the game we saw Derk

Hanavan uh go into H ferle Boland and Sam Kalan who must have had four hands and four legs Hitting off canovan dragging him pulling him kicking him uh trying to stop him and canovan rolled and and somehow ducked and got through and put the ball over the bear brilliant

Performance but he was on his own in the first half James until a certain man came on at halftime and we saw an exhibition of shooting from one Darren McCurry in that second half yeah I thought McCurry was outstanding and McCurry made he did that thing that excellent players do he made Canan

Better just by being there they had some great interactions couple of little passes between each other they both did the right thing every time but mccurry’s class second half especially the point he swung with the outside of his outside left two of them oh but when he came on

The difference inquality between Tyrone and Mayo was stack like Mayo do not have any combination close to what Tyrone had are you talking chemistry here yeah I’m talking chemistry I’m talking ability like they were class like you’re talking top top level players here marar is not

Even sharp yet but you could just tell he can play the game at a higher level than the average or the vast majority and Mayo just don’t have that quality that like they’re they’re doing everything right there huffing and puffing but there’s just not that class

That you need at the highest level and as soon as McCurry came on he improved Canan the two of them had a great relationship and they just class eight shots eight points 100% accuracy and one second half football for Darren McCurry yeah that says it all that says

It all like but the J thing is sometimes you can you can kind of look at what canan’s not doing or what he is doing he was better just by McCurry being on the field you know and that’s you can just tell the fellas are top players when

That happens they didn’t have to to work too hard at it together they were there you made a great point last week Jimmy and I remember it cuz you don’t have many of them but this was definitely a stand up one time no I already but the F about Mayo

That mayo and used that that phrase huffing and puffing and I used it last week watching the the gway game as well do Mayo have a player in the top 10 players in the country I thought was it such a fast I was like Jesus actually think about that because they’re great

Team you probably had three or four k l Conor at his Peak likes said Patty dark and Higgins L at his Peak as well and and they don’t just thinking could you make a case for any of to be the top 10 and they don’t they have good

Players they’re honest players fgo bow and gets a couple of lovely scores he he’s been better and he’s kind of making a claim for his play MC’s team r d who is a brilliant forward but is he at the level of of a canovan or even a Mur in

Top form I don’t think he is and that’s ultimately the challenge for for Mayo they have lots of good things but do they have any great things and this is the the anomaly with with terrone if you look through that terrone team and this is why they could be bloody frustrating

I’m sure their own supporters I’m sure the players are frustrated themselves they’ve got a really good goalkeeper they’ve got good Defenders hampy mckernan um Peter Hart is a good transition player Kilpatrick is a really effective Midfield I don’t like this trying to play further up the pitch played him out Midfield with Brian

Kennedy that’s a really really solid Midfield and you’ve got two guys inside in canovan I’d say one of the top five players in the game and McCurry you go there with Canan yeah I think so I I I I think mcc’s I think mcc’s an excellent excellent H so far but but canovan

Is Canan is exceptional like that point the difference is he has the go trip maybe this remember that smells we’ve all seen that video of Peter canan’s greatest K yeah and he’s getting absolutely hopped off Club games and he’s rolling and he doesn’t matter he somehow scores that

Score that you started with with Canan at Sam Khan you’re like I was like oh my God I’ve seen that I’ve seen that score you’re dad in it for 20 years that’s how like if you look at that truth from terone lands they have a lot of ingredients they have X Factor players

That probably Mayo don’t have but the issue with terrone is the inconsistencies around it the kind of atmosphere around the team has been a little bit funky for the last couple of years and when they don’t have that edge in their play and be nasty bastards like

We’ve said before they’re too easy to play against but but if you’re talking to me whose ceiling is higher who has more potential as a team if everything goes right I i’ put to around ahead of May but I wouldn’t put them there yet but potential wise particularly with

Those two guys inside got some turnaround from you know no no no that’s g a few weeks ago but but they were absolutely awful a few weeks ago and that’s the big massive question mark with thron is they’re inconsistent and they have the raw materials to be at

Top team but when their attitude is off they are so ordinary they’re so bad and we’ve seen that more than their a game we even seen it on Saturday night the first half wasn’t great second half they blow Mayo away so I’m not saying tone

Have the answers yet on the back of one half of football but their sailing their potential is HED male can I ask you a question on that and James I’m not going to ask you this one because it’s not applicable yet but Patty that and it’s

Clear as day where he inher did it from that Rough and Tumble durability the robustness the balance yeah derck hanaman has got it in the jeans if we Hugo could inherit one trait from your football career what would you like oh uh I don’t know give us

Team play team play I had now magic like are you going to instill that in Hugo from a young age cuz dck must be must have that’s what i’ been telling them don’t be a little B youo um no we’re kind of in all seriousness you could see that

Even from last season season before he wins balls he’s a let we said this he’s a ball winner despite being slice now he wins ball I was at the game really stuck of me against West maid where Throne got out of jail last year up in Brey Park in

The the round robin section he was exceptional but he was there were lumping balls in and he’s holding ads off and he’s win it and he’s a small guy you know that’s having that mentality The Bravery around it we know he has the technical skills we said it last year

Like remember toron lost by about 40 points to carry and the early quarterfinal and one of the biggest things I was playing the goal watching in the first half the forward was they had no cohesion McCurry was not good that day Rory Canan and darck Canan had individual moments of exence which they

Know they have but they weren’t playing we’re talking about Dublin a couple of minutes ago that cohesiveness of front and it might be the case that there’s no point in having six silky for forwards cuz they don’t play together you need who can compliment who who what shape

Can we play that’s going to get the best out of this but if Terron get that right that’s what I’m saying they have I will put Canan in that Brack I think he is that good already and what a what a sidekick to have in McCurry unbelievable

James if you were to build a forward I have a feeling you’d start with the hands you’ve always talked about that just the import being able to win your own ball isn’t it yeah first touch I think is massively important because if you if you’re amking the tightest fellas

And you want to get as much primary ball in the golden Zone like around the D from a kick pass you might only get one or two of those in a in a championship mind in a game you might get one or two of those passes on the money to create a
