Bowling coach of Multan Sultans firstly thank you so much for joining us here David uh you must be really proud with the way you saw the boys perform today in particular the spin Bowlers you’ve got fesel arram as well as Usama be they’ve been brilliant throughout the H
PSL so far they have’t yes it’s good to uh good to be here to speak to you and yeah really proud of the way uh they bowled OS has bowled really well as you say all the way through the tournament but for um for fasel to come in on on
Debut and to Bowl as maturely as he did um on a on a not a particularly helpful pitch for the Spinners um knowing that the um that they were going to look to get after him on debut needing needing to score at 10 plus and over for him to
To bowl so maturely I mean he took two wickets but had two three drop chances as as well so yeah really pleased with uh the way both of those guys P now you’ve had some experience in the Multan Cricket Academy in the past as well tell us a little more about that because
There is a bit of background all the hard work that sort of goes behind the scenes and then it culminates into a performance like this that we saw today yeah so uh Ali ttin who’s the the owner of The Sultans uh invited me to uh attend the spin camp in January 2020 uh
With a group of about 20 young Spinners and fasel arram was one of those young Spinners as a as a 16-year-old uh boy uh and now to see him uh progress through the ranks four years later to be uh debuting for the um for the team in the in the PSL is is
Fantastic but he’s got um he’s got great skills um a really simple action but a really mature head on his shoulders as well uh and I think as he gets stronger we’ll see him go from from strength to strength but great credit to Ali for setting up the academy uh I’m sure
Phasal is is just one of a few that will begin to filter through in the coming years vastly different of course the two spinners you’ve got the left arm wrist spinner and then the very tall usir what do you like about what he brings asir well the first thing I’d say is he’s
Been I think he’s 20 28 now and he’s got this really nice balance between I guess that the confidence that the experiences that he’s had obviously he’s played international cricket the experiences that he’s had give him a certain degree of confidence but he retains a real humility that that means that he’s just
Desperate to learn he’s this is the first time I’ve I’ve met with him and spoken with him and and he’s been really really keing to sort of tapping into the experiences that I’ve had and and Alex as well as the other spin balling coach so that that humility and desire to
Learn is great but his skills are good uh he balls a nice pace for 2020 Cricket he’s not afraid to take Pace off the ball when he needs to uh but can also go quite hard into that sort of back of length length uh that means that he’s
Quite difficult to get away we saw him um we saw him put under some pressure in that first over and then to return and get uh get six wickets is is is a great achievement and uh yeah he’s he’s done pretty well for himself so far but
Hopefully he’s got some uh some um some good experiences in to come in the future I noticed in your early days of the job at the ECB you had some time with Terry Jenner who coached one of the greatest of all time in Shane War Knowledge from him what did you sort of
Pick up in those early days when you were starting the job and and starting to coach spin Bowlers well I’m I’m I’m really glad you asked cuz I I give Terry Terry Jen a huge amount of credit all the time when I talk to uh talk to
Spinners the first thing I’d say that that Terry did he was the first coach that I came across that started to demystify spin bowling so everybody used to say in England you know it’s it’s it’s magical it’s a mystery you can either do it or you can’t do it and
Terry Jenner was the first person to first of all try that I came across at least that tried to break down the technique of bowling spin uh into a way that could help any spin bowler of any age and experience but he also tried to to present a coaching methodology that could enable
You to work with any any spinner to enable them to improve and I spent uh several years several years working with him I remember taking a 14-year-old Adel Rashid out to uh Adelaide to spend time with uh with TJ uh Terry introduced me to Shane war and I remember having an
Afternoon with him at the Rose Bowl uh one time but but he leaves a great legacy Terry a lot of uh a lot of the Modern Day spin balling coaches certainly in England are still working to um his methodology and some of the many the many technical points that he
Used to uh promote I think it’s great that you can pass some of that on to these young men as well I think it’s sort of it’s so valuable everybody talks about him so highly and what a great coach he was but the fact you can now
Pass it on some of the young Pakistan spin Bowlers is brilliant and it’s showing as well you know in just the way they’re performing uh today but overall you know Multan Sultans your experience so far with them because one thing that stands out about them is that they seem
Like a very well gelled unit you know overall everybody seems to be getting on with each other all smiles there’s a lot of energy and of course it helps if you’re winning right yes absolutely the the winning helps but it’s really interesting obviously because these players obviously there’s some local
Players but many of the players have come from overseas and have never been in the same dressing room at the same time together and suddenly you’re asking them to Jael as a unit and as a team um and credit must go to to Ali to Abdul as
Uh as coach but but also to rzan as Captain uh in making everybody feel very welcome uh and in developing a culture amongst the team that’s uh actually it’s team first um and so yeah great credit to to those guys they’ve certainly made me feel welcome um everybody feels um
You know a real privilege to be part of this unit and I think the performances that you’re seeing out on the field is a reflection of the way in which the team has gelled off the field is this is this the rban you see in the rec room or is
This just an onfield show oh no he’s like this he’s like this off off the field as well full of energy I mean I’ve listened to I’ve been fortunate to go onto the field for a couple of the Tactical breaks when perhaps we’ve been a little bit behind
The behind the eightball and yet his messages is constantly keep smiling keep entertaining keep believing uh keep delivering your best self keep being brave um and that’s what the players have have done again today yeah that’s what we saw from amair as well he specifically mentioned the fact that
After he got hit for those two sixes it was rzan who kept his nerves and sort of came to him and said that you know you got to believe in yourself which is why you know leadership plays such an important role but I’m just going to

Uh how things are fairing at this point in time well there you go Multan Sultans is the team to beat they’ve got 10 points and that’s why they’re sitting pretty on top of of the table whereas laal kanders are sitting at the bottom of the table lots of issues for them
Lots of concerns but for now I think Multan can really celebrate because they have been so consistent in their performances and that’s the key when you look at leagues when you look at League cricket kooki I mean it’s one thing to have a one-off good performance but to
Be able to replicate it in different games what have you liked about Multan Sultans just their confidence and the way that they go about playing their cricket I think Andy flow who was a coach for there for a long time has to take some credit as well obviously he’s
No longer with them at the moment and just all their back room staff the way that rzan leads from the front you just heard David Parsons talk about his positivity even when you get hit out the ground enjoy yourself smile on your face be brave but also how they deliver you
Know they just seem to have a method of getting runs on the board they’ve got some excellent Bowlers we we’ve seen half the squad not play tonight likes of David Willie D David Milan abas afredi um Chris Jordan hasn’t even played at the moment so they have got strength in
Depth and confidence is high of course it is doly uh the leaders that you see across uh across the cricketing fraternity who are rather docile and then you’ve got somebody like Muhammad riswan who’s not docile at all you know he’s quite busy behind the stumps and I
Mean what is it that one thing that stands out about him for you look I love rban I remember the question to him after was it a World Cup game or some somewhere went down with cramp and he was all over the place he was acting
Like it was going on and the question was asked afterwards and he just said sometimes it’s acting sometimes it’s cramp that is rzan that is him he has always sort of got a smile on his face he’s in the contest he he’s trying to make the game enjoyable and I think
That’s one of the great things about him um you see that I think he thoroughly enjoyed tonight running around the park not having the gloves on just putting himself in those areas those Pockets he probably doesn’t get he doesn’t get to do it very often at all I think it’s
Only the second time he hasn’t Wicked kept in an HB Pakistan Super League game so to me that was you know just rban enjoying himself tonight and having a great time he is a good leader uh and to be able to do that when you haven’t scored runs and he’ll be so bitterly
Disappointed got out to Shaheen as well because that’s a rivalry he would have looked forward to all day but it was a beauty of a delivery you get out for n you’ve still got to be up your team have got runs on the board you have to be the
Guy and he was that guy again so yeah I love his energy and his enthusiasm and um he’s just a good character to have in your team I think and he’s got somebody like Usman Khan at the top to be really giving him that start today short of 100
But uh you know that’s what you need from your top three when you’re looking at them to be able to score a big one convert those 50s uh that’s what you need to be in terms of setting that platform at the top for Multan in the PSL at the moment we’re seeing quality
Guys not the big names who are getting runs and obviously Usman khah is another one that just just sets his stall out to play all the way through this Innings he obviously would have wanted another 100 he’s got what the quickiest 100 in HB PSL history last year um at in pindy and
The way that he played s my you’d say he’s up there as well with this guy just two two guys who have come into PSL and are performing and when rzan goes as as dly has just said for for none you know you you need that experience and and you
Need that conf confidence and uh and you can see there he played all the way around played a beautiful Innings great great pitch to play on by the way them last three pitches that we’ve had here have been magnificent um but set the Innings a light and got them to a score
It was so difficult wasn’t it to to know who was going to be player of the match he a guy that’s you know I mean it was it was almost good enough to be a player of the match performance really that I know he got it we’re just having to go
Wack out here but he’s under more pressure now because he’s coming in as an overseas player yeah and that’s a big thing you you local player there’s you know seven eight of them at times in a side he’s now an overseas player he’s coming in under a bit more pressure to
Perform as an overseas paid player yes I know he’s only got the same trip as me you know it’s two and a bit hours from Dubai it’s fine not a long flight to come on but he’s an overseas player and he’s got to he’s got to do the job as
That and I was really impressed with his performance tonight I think he hits the ball as hard as anyone given that freedom and that sort of License to do what he does he can continue to do it did lore miss out on executing their plans I mean we know that the conditions
Were really good for batting but did they miss a trick I think they’ve missed a trick all tournament long I think they’ve just not put it together as a side uh big players not performing fak is a man at the top of the order obviously the loss of Harris Ralph the
Big loss of rashed Khan is is a massive loss you can’t fill that hole um I think also perhaps mixed messages of sending in left-handers in have to have a left hand right hand combination not bowling sakander razar enough not sending in Carlos brawe we can go on and on there’s
Reasons why they’re not performing and the players have to take responsibility for that you know you don’t go from being Champions and lose one play and all of a sudden you lose the first six games they’re not out of the competition of course they’re not but it’s tough to
Get into them playoffs from here and the players will be sitting in in that in that changing room now thinking okay we we’ve got to take responsibility here perhaps for plans tactics weren’t quite right we’ve been there in teams if you’re not performing you just have to
Be honest with yourself and say look we haven’t performed we’ve got to be able to turn this around and try and find a way to win because at the moment tactically personally uh they’re just not doing things that they should do now we’ve seen uh you know you’ve got
Finishers in different uh in all different franchises we saw rman Powell the other day the way he was hitting it out of the park and ifar Ed has been playing that role to Perfection for Multan Sultans 50y Mania Mania it’s been it’s R isn’t it it’s R it’s catching I
Don’t know why we’re all saying it Danny but look he’s just got the the power I’m I’m not sure why a half volley came after being hit in the head I really don’t it was Shaheen saying I’m really sorry you can have a half volley now to
Hit down the ground out of the park but he’s got what we call him the business big boy Power he he can clear any boundary in the world he strikes the ball so well he can hit offside just almost as well as he hits leg side he
Takes on the short ball uh he takes Pace as well as he takes Spin and when you’ve got that platform set that’s the thing molan Sultans we saw some numbers tonight again they lose the fewest wickets in those middle overs they set the Innings up for the back end they
Know what they’ve got in kushil in IFA if you know if guys have to go if at the back end they’ve got power to do that wasam Amir he’s no slouch with the long ball at the back end of the inning so they know what they have to do to set up
That last five six overs for those types of players and they do it they do it to Perfection they don’t lose wickets yes they go at just under eight and over so they not rocketing along in those middle stages but they set it up beautifully for those sorts of players and those
Sorts of finishing Innings and he’s done it again tonight and they’ve got Muhammad Ali as well who’s been taking heaps and heaps of wickets in the HB PSL so it’s a great combination just the balance of the side the balance of the side the fact that people are per Performing Well everybody’s taking
Wickets David Willie obviously didn’t play tonight he’s done well left arm swing Muhammad Ali you know usam mamir abas afredi you can go on and on with them they just seem to have every base covered and that’s why they’re top of the league and probably going to be
There towards the end of the competition if they play like that they are seriously going to take some stopping you mentioned it before Cori that that win will feel even better because of the players are head out the players they had missing only able to field two
