So welcome to 2024 PGA show we’re here at demo day with Jose miraflor who is the uh vice president of marketing for cob Golf and head of architecture as well oh Fair yeah thanks for that give you the full the full long title so who
Here to go through some of the some of the techs involved in the the woods and the irons for Cobra golf this year so you know multiple things a changed with the heads this year and I think um the the drivers the drivers in particular there really different sound but there’s
A lot of different aspects to the heads this year for me well you know everybody wants a great feeling driver so we have a frequency we try and hit as a Target and this year we’ve really knocked it out of the park I think they sound super
Solid super soft at the same time we’re proud of that they kind of sound old school yeah a little bit yeah like I think Ricky calls it like a baseball bat a solid wood sound which is great right um the technologies that we’re bringing to the market this year are pretty easy
To understand the first one’s very visible right it’s Advanced aerodynamics if you look at these drivers you’ll notice really soft lines around the perimeter of the face you’ll notice that the back of the driver sweeps up dramatically on the ls and even has a tall Crown so that is the keys to
Aerodynamics that our aerodynamics just help us to um introduce and shape the drivers this year um and that’s that’s step one it’s Progressive so if if you’re a better player you’re going to play the LS which has the most arrow in fact there’s an 8 Dee in the line that
If you’re fast enough that has the most Arrow we’ve ever put into a driver seriously low speed MH uh low spin for sure right and then as you progress through um the the driver heads the X has the arrow from last year and this is
The model that I think a lot of people want to use and then the max there is the one that has the lowest CG so has less Arrow but it’s more about getting the ball up in the the air helping you to create more forgiveness it’s our most
Forgiving driver and also the most draw biased driver and I think one thing just to go on to to where you’re talking about the lowest CG being the lowest arrow that sweeping up at the back that helps it’s like like your F1 cars it’s helping the air to flow over the over
The heads as efficiently as possible that roundness on the Leading Edge it’s creating as smooth as surfaces as we can to get that air flow right you know your arrow very good that’s that’s great yeah so you know the first part is the face most important but then you want to keep
That air flow adhering to the head as much as possible reducing your drag and to your point raising the AFT of the driver is much like on F1 cars you see them and even sports cars of today they all have that that rear diffuser area to help you
Out and some of that’s come from I mean the ability to move that weight around has come from that that new carbon carbon Crown rather than titanium yeah so we have a lot of carbon fiber on this head it helps us save weight we also have a power Bridge system inside which
Position positions the CG forward for Speed on the ls and x and then we remove it on the max to be able to push all the weight to the back to add that forgiveness to add that draw bias so that power bridge waiting is a another
Technology and then the final one is our AI face you know people talk about their faces ours is made super light it’s also a forge face that we curve so it actually welds underneath the driver adding a good amount of flexion to the face um and we use that so those three
Technologies aerodynamic the power bridge waiting and the poers shell face really work together to give you the sound and the distance that your guys are going to get from the dark speed drivers this year and and one of the aspects that um that goes with the face
On the driver and the Fairway through is the it’s call an L face so that’s where the the face wraps into the sole and that bits critical to the FL face flexion yeah the lcff face is is one of a kind we’re the only company to use it
We CAU we took it from our irons which have a lot of distance and speed that that El cup allows us to forge a larger area allows us to make that area thin and it flexes with the body to give us more trampoline effect and that because
It doesn’t require a bond at the bottom it’s another area where you can actually you can control the way that whole yeah piece of material Works rather than having a bond that you absolutely absolutely you can make it thinner and you can control it even though it’s
Around the corner it allows you to create more flexion and speed I mean certainly we we’ve just got these into the studio before we came out and I think the um one this the spin across all the models um as you say the sounds really noticeable I think that’s
Something that that if anyone gets to test them you’re really going to notice it’s a totally different note to drivers any driver that I can remember for a long time yeah um but as with coob the speed’s always good and I think AET performed really well last year um but
Maybe didn’t quite get the the traction they probably deserved but I think the Acoustics and the experience of hitting this I think there’s there’s some great some great performance in these and the looks I mean when you when you visualize dark speed in your head you’re going to
Visualize a dark Moody lack of a better term murdered out driver kids say today right so this this this is a really blackon black it’s a satin carbon fiber Crown satin carbon fiber sole with some highlights of gloss black really cool um with and that’s the ls it’s black the X
Features the same satin and and you know black highlights but has a couple blue pieces to it and then the max the one you’re holding has red so like people who play shafts today black for low blue for medium red for high making it easy for people to choose the Sha choose the
Driver and you know we’re using shafts that match it this is the link uh uh Link Blue this is the link white and I think you have the Hazardous red all these shafts are made to partner with the head to hit it low to hit it medium
Or to hit a high I think the addition of some extra weight options for controlling the launch and the spin as well I think that’s also just the extra versatility of the models this year yeah that’s new for this year as well and thanks for remembering that when we made
The power bridge this year we were able to make a 10 GS lighter the engineers reimagined what it could be didn’t sacrifice any CG locations or anything like that but since we save that amount of weight we’re able to make a new weight position in the ls in the back so
If it’s too low of spin for you you can make it more forgiving or add a little bit of spin by putting the weight in the back and on the X last year we had a lot of tour players putting hot milk in the front or lead tape they wanted this to
Just spin a little bit less now we have a weight position there to really help them find the right tuning for the driver head they’re looking for and I’d expect the X to have quite a bit of tour play this year just because of where the flight c
F um you and Ferguson he plays an X um in the AO jet I think he switched directly into the X into dark speed so I think you’re going to see a lot more tour players because there’s two choices for you a more compact Head super low
Spin or a more standard head size that has a forgiveness in it that’s a little bit higher too so let’s move on a little bit to I so a lot of that text incorporates into the into the fairway wood as well yes and this year we have a brand new
Fairway wood that we’re excited to talk to you about let’s how about you hold this one um I’ll get the other ones out so in the Fairway woods they match the drivers and their names so you have the ls I have the X and I have the Max and as you
Can see by the waiting stories they’re the same as the drivers with the exception of the X we don’t have a midwe position cuz it didn’t make any changes when we moved it forward but you know these Fairy Woods are really nice the one you’re holding is special it’s our
First titanium fairway wood so when you use titanium you’re able to save a lot of weight you’re able to make your wall thicknesses thinner around the body so it’s going to flex more like a driver and how awesome is that right but when you save all that weight you have to put
It back into the head some of our competitors have used steel on on the sole plate this year we’ve used T tungsten so those two front weights are two tungsten pieces they’re 15 G each so that’s 30 gr right there and in behind them inside welded on are two more
Tungston uh plates they they wear weigh a total of 38 gram so imagine all that tungsten weighing forward right next to the bridge this is a rocket it’s going to help you to launch it higher spin it less and it’s just going to go I’ve seen
This we been testing back home before we came out and this thing is low spin yeah I seriously I think but I think the fairways for the drivers have always been very strong for me the fairways this year um uh they’ve really up their game a lot I think’ just done a few
Shots on the range with the with the X and that that really picks the ball up really well this does it does and if you struggle at all to get the ball up in the air this this Max is a little lower profile helps you to feel like and look
Like you can get under that ball easily and so has a really low CG to help that type of golf I think across the models as well the the so shape the the club head really seats well that’s one of the key things with Fairways where um at on
Drivers to a point people when they put them down they don’t want it kind of rolling up really sit behind our Engineers have figured out we call it a Smart Pad we haven’t called it out in many years but each driver in each Fairway has a a square centimeter area
Here where it sits flat no matter what setting you put it on cuzz normally if you put more Loft it gets hooked if you take the Loft away it gets open no it always sits Square yeah and that’s that’s a true key for our success with adjustability and the hle is that the
Heads look the same all the time I think that’s a really particular point with the with the fairways oh for sure thank you for that all right so then uh I think irons the next next one in particular I think we really ought to focus on with the uh dark speed
Irons cuz the the forg Tech forg de X and the and the forg nbcb tour carryover yes so new for 2024 with the dark speed family are the dark speed irons you’re holding the standard I’m holding the on length what people should notice right away it’s a hollow iron right allows us
To do some cool things and when you see when you hear dark speed you don’t expect an iron that’s Chrome or or satin this one is a a dark a dark polish here it has a nice dark look to it um and it’s beautiful I think right um when we
Make a iron Hollow it allows us to tune the sound you you kind of like the sound of the driver have you hit the iron because these sound super soft as yet know but we’ll do it very short they sound really soft and that was one of
Our focuses this year to make a game improvement iron soft when we pull game improvement golfers what’s the first thing they want you would think distance but they know these irons are all long now now they’re asking for feel now they’re asking for accuracy and workability so we made it with feel if
You chop this iron in half you would see inside is a foam we use it’s a it’s a it’s a microspheres foam and when you inject it into the head and put the head into oven it expands and takes up every nook and cranny and then it hardens it
Actually is a pretty hard feeling substance when it’s done when it’s cured but when you hit the head the head will Flex in one frequency and the one node and the foam will will Flex in another node thereby damping all the vibrations or the harsh sound which is key when you
Have a hollow iron you can do that um the other technology inside like the driver is a power bra there’s a 70 G piece of weight that is just about free floating in that head it only welds onto the back and it doesn’t touch the face doesn’t touch the toe doesn’t touch the
Heel doesn’t even touch the back except for the post that it sits on and that allows the whole phas to flex like a metal wood and that’s what we’re doing we’re bringing metalwood technology to our irons to add distance to add launch um we have a poers shell phas just like
The driver that gives us the largest face we’ve ever forged um and it gives us the flexion and the launch that we need so it it really is set up like a metalwood um but it has Loft on it gives you distance control um so we’re really
Excited about it it comes in two ways one you have one there that’s the standard variable length and we’re still doing the one length um it’s still a good piece of our business it is a little good piece of your guys business in Europe as well um and we continue to
Support it because we know that the customers who find it have been looking for a cure for their game and it’s a great one Jose thank you so much for your time insightful as always it’s my pleasure really grateful for that and look forward to you is all coming in to
Test it out in the studio very very soon

Most forgiving driver this yr by far is the QI by Taylormade ,, really great for high handicaps.
great video, and overview of COBRA line, nice to see all of the bag done in one sitting, and to know you can get irons and drivers/woods from the same manufacturer, keeping the feel consistent.
one question Simon, with these clubs, who are they aimed at, and for more beginner golfers, or the 'first try' of the brand, what line do you recommend?
A bunch of fancy words that all mean that you will still slice the ball 🤣.
