So if you want to shank the ball like a machine put something under your armpit  and try to keep it there this is the worst thing that can possibly happen to  your golf swing it is ripping you off of your Arc an absolute swing ripoff so if

You’re in lessons right now you’re struggling with distance you’re  struggling with contact and they’re saying that you’re over the top please  run okay because they have you focused on the wrong thing you C this can’t be  your target so if you’re coming over the top that means the golf Ball’s your

Target it doesn’t matter what you do back here technically if this continues  to be the target you’re in trouble so what we’re looking for is we want to  swing toward the target and I’m going to show you in this video that it’s

Impossible when you’ve got a proper task to a Target to be over the top or to be  off plane or to be offline please stay with us this is so  important so just to be clear in any How the trail elbow perform in the throw,

And how this relate to the golf swing throwing  motion that elbow is super wide so when I want to throw the ball down the range  here if I put something under my head cover I literally turn myself into T-Rex

So we’re looking for a lot of width back here and you’ll notice that flying elbow  turns into a leading elbow in a heartbeat that’s how we get that  catapult effect so when you look at a baseball piture we’re looking at this

Beautiful range of motion we’re going to have this big windup that’s very  relaxed and we need that freedom in the arms to be able to gun that  pitch it’s not by put you know trying to control the arm that we’re going to get  more control over the pitch the control comes from Full

Abandonment this appendage is connected to you beautifully through that shoulder  so if I’m just focused on throwing it to the Target notice there’s the flag stick  and I’m right next to that flag stick with my Thro so if we do the same thing  here and we take a a beautiful page from

That let me show you how well connected Determining the centre of your golf   swing to help you balance the swing your body is from the beginning so if  I’m going to con you know I’m going to cut some grass with one arm notice the

Center of that machine is my right shoulder socket and and you notice how  the club wants to cut grass right underneath that shoulder  socket so I take both hands put them together to take my grip the center of  that machine right now is right here underneath my sternal notch where the

Two clavicles connect to the rib cage now if I take some grass from here and I  want to send it towards my target  send send well notice I keep cutting grass right there from  the center of my stance forward so I really don’t have to worry about you

Know ball first then grass contact when I’m actually sending grass out there  towards my target that’s number one number two there are two pendulums in  the golf swing not one so for those of you who think okay my path and you’ve  got this

Convoluted connection ction as far as what path is path comes from the second  pendulum if I was chipping and putting I would be working my way around my main  pendulum point that we just talked about so I’m chipping everything is revolving  around that sternal notch I go Where the second pendulum

Operates in the golf swing further now my trail arm has to fold if  it doesn’t Fold It shoves me out of position as it folds it activates the  second pendulum that second pendulum is my wrist notice how my hands are staying

Right there between my knees and I’ve got this beautiful pendulum action that  bottoms out at the right place so one two if I go 2 one Watch What  Happens two one complete an utter whiff  so if you go ball then you’re unloading the second pendulum early and then the

Club starts coming up as it approaches the ball high ball flight thin ball  flight Scrapy contact fat contact Shanks you name it versus I’m  going over there so let’s say I’m going to take a page out of our one of our

Main core tasks throwing the club so if I was going to throw the club into this  curtain here notice Peak speed is out there and  not down here I’m not throwing the club at the ball I’m throwing the club at my

So if I do the same thing here I’m going The Kinetic chain description in slow   motion without a headcover under the armpit to set the club above the ball I’m going  to throw the club in the direction that is right of that intermediate Point here

We go throw so in slow motion you’ll notice my brain’s got to go to the  ground use the ground to get my body out of the way my hands come through first  then the shaft then the heel of the club collect the ball then the toe passes the

Heel as the ball is coming off the face and then the full release is over here  so if I release my energy in the direction I want to start it which is  just right edge of that in immediate Point Watch What

Happens throw the club so now the ball starts a little right draws back toward  the pin and there you have  it we’ve got this very accurate very powerful golf shot that does not need to  be babysat by a head cover AR under the

Armpit so as I go back what I’m looking for is full  width full width see that then it folds and hinges look at how far away my right  elbow is from my body now I’m going toward the target Watch What Happens the

Brain goes to the ground uses the ground to get my body out of the way look at my  elbow now it looks very close to my body doesn’t it well that’s because I’m  collecting the ball from there and releasing the ball over here so I need

This space here in front of me in order to get to that Target over there so if  I’m waiting for a pitch in baseball notice in baseball when I’m waiting for  a pitch my arms are out here in front of me and when I’m committing to the pitch

Watch What Happens my arms go even farther away  from me imagine if I put a head cover under that armpit now how am I going to  be able to get any kind of power behind that ball it’s the same thing in tennis

The only thing I could do in tennis would be a serve like this it doesn’t  make any sense because this action here is part of the human kinetic chain and  it’s I can’t tell you how important it is for you guys and I’m going to let you

In on a on a really cool secret so what we need to do now is really organize  your back swing so that we have this width and range of motion there’s a very  specific feel that you’re looking for so we can deliver out there so stay with us

I’m going to show you an amazing feel in that back swing that’s really going to  help you out so to create that effect How to organize your backswing for an   effortless golf swing and easy power that we want in that baseball swing  waiting for that pitch right there feeling that incredible engagement of

That kinetic chain what we want to do is  we want to go to your follow through and then from there let everything fall into  the back swing release into the back swing and you’re going to feel that when  the club releases you into the back swing it releases into a nice hinge and

That hinge is going to levitate the arms up the rib cage so it’s releasing up the  rib cage and you begin to feel a wonderful floating sensation so it’s  forward first release into a nice float and like Johnny Miller said at one point

We were talking about the X Factor swing theory about 30 years ago where they  talked about resist with the lower body try to coil the upper body against the  lower body and we’ve been demonstrating for the last 30 years that the human

Machine just isn’t made that way the rib cage and the pelvis are designed to move  together on top of your hips and that the spine is a it’s like Lego blocks on  top of each other it’s a l locked in mechanism to protect your spinal cord so

When I’m swinging back and through you’ll notice my rib cage and my pelvis  are moving together on top of my hips and my legs just look at what Bryce and  D shambo’s done in the last three years to open up his swing to get that extra

Power well he won the US Open with that you can’t win the US Open if you’re not  accurate so power power and accuracy come from this so what I’m looking for  is to create the widest most relaxed Arc An efficient arc that is accurate and that

Allows the kinetic chain to operate properly in both directions so I’ve got a back  swing that’s very relaxed and very  wide in the direction that I want the ball to go that’s two inside that would  not match right Edge that’s two outside that doesn’t match right

Edge that’s moving toward right Edge Edge and I’m very relaxed I keep going  I’m still relaxed so notice my stance is not too wide and my feet are towed open  if you look at how my leg hangs here my leg is hanging with my feet towed open

If I close my foot I feel like I’m using some muscle tension here in my hips to  close that if I relax it wants to pop open so I want to feel like both my legs  are slightly open and this is opening up my turn in the back swing more turn

Equals more width if I’m snapping a punch towards you notice my my punch is  moving in your direction however my body is turning at  at least 90° to allow that to happen otherwise I just get a peck full of

Bicep so I don’t want to crush my arms into me when I put put something under  my elbow or under my armpit I’m forcing the ark to collapse into me that’s the  last thing we want when my student says hey Sean I feel like I’m losing control

At the top of my back swing that’s when the choir is singing so to you when you  let this float and release in both directions you’re going to feel a  sensation of abandon of control however again everything is connected  and it makes beautiful circles so I’m looking for wide and

Relaxed and then deliver in the direction of my Target and that felt  extremely powerful and there’s my 180 yard seven  iron and it’s still on the green not as accurate as I want to but it’s still on  the green so nice

Setup feel the weight of my arms and How the technique works in practice  Club stay relaxed notice how my body’s got to turn with me stay  relaxed that’s tense and then if I turn now everything

Is stuck behind me how am I going to go to the Target now I have to come over  the top I’m going to have to make some modifications midswing in order to get  the ball to go in the direction that I want to now I have to

Interfere versus yeah that wants to go that  way yeah I let it go that way and there you have it sitting here  in Balance looking at my shot Landing right there in the center of my green  and again extremely powerful shot I’m at 180 yards carry with that seven iron

Once a more okay so get out of this control mode abandon  control observe as you swing back and through without stopping how relaxed you  Shawn summarizes the golf lesson are and you you’ll notice that when you  want to throw the club in the direction of the

Target everything will come back from the inside naturally so the brain goes  to the ground uses the ground to get the body out of the way and look at where my  hands are now there is no choice for the club head to come from the outside it

Can’t come from the outside it has to come from the inside  and you’ll notice it’s going to release through the arc and exit left that  happens all by itself you don’t have to think about that either all right so get  to it for more information please visit wisdom andolf premium.com for $9.95 a

  1. This is gold and can’t be emphasized enough, given the hundreds of other videos recommending the tucked right armpit. Speed killer, consistency killer and great way to get stuck. Not to mention it’s ALOT more fun to loosen up those shoulders and whip it using your approach ! My personal swing thought to get this is “high hands” at top, and feeling those lats stretch upward. Great stuff Shawn!

  2. Loved the beginning – made me laugh. Shawn I was wondering – what are your feelings on jumbomax grips? I'm in the process of trying them out. You often compare the golf swing to other sports / movements and almost all of them have a thicker handle. So on one hand I would think you would approve of the larger grips. However, I know you also have done extensive videos on grips and where the clubs should rest in your hands / fingers. Just curious what you think.

  3. I will never understand how you do not have more subscribers than you do. I have been watching you since the very beginning and can take what you say and your analogies and use them on my own. I am able to understand way more about the golf swing because you have simplified it in a way that makes sense to me. I have tried lessons and they say a lot of cool terms and throw a lot of drills at you, but nothing has been more easy for me to understand and utilize on the course than what you teach. The Arm Club unit and the throwing the club, all of it, just makes much more sense and is really easy to work with. I appreciate all of your hard work on these videos!

  4. Shawn, From what I have understood (Watching all the random youtube videos), the purpose of headcover drill is to rotate more and stay connected. You swing really well, but for amateur like me, thinking of ball throwing motion tends me to sway a lot laterally and if cannot time my return to the ball I shank it. Any thoughts?…

  5. Thanks as always Shawn! Ive been waiting all week for this one! I was wondering why you dont have the stickers on your clubs yet? I know younwent back to blades somewhat recently but i think it would be helpful to get the rest of the metrics. 180 carry with a 7 iron blade is HUGE! 💪

  6. Another brilliant video , you came recommended to me after 5 years of frustrating golf . For a 74 year old Brit , getting better every time I play .

  7. Hey Shawn, another awesome video…even though I am now using the Moe Norman swing method, I still find all your videos incredibly helpful. You are definitely, in my opinion, the best golf instructor out there, Bar none!!!!!!!

  8. Someone who has such a simple free swing with a raised right elbow is rocco mediate. I always was told not to raise the elbow. I started emulating his swing and started striping the ball then i see this id which confirmed what ive been doing sucks i wasted years doing it wring but feels great now

  9. Boy those were some deep inside upper cuts dropped on an industry stuck in the past in the start of this video. 🤣

  10. Shawn, Your backswing , rotates and loads around behind you to the left side, all is completed on the backswing ready to power up the pelvis . Pelvis drops and pops up . Vertical power . That's what it looks like ?

  11. Hey Shawn! Awesome vid, but have a question— Ive always been curious of your finishing position. Its very unique--watching Sav and Mu, I dont think they have that finish. It got me thinking- I dont think I have seen any videos specifically about that finishing position where your club is across the line. Is that something just specific to your swing? I dont think I have seen anyone with that club position at the end of the swing before so I am curious about it

  12. Shawn, this is a great instructional video. Loved the opening and you are correct. Ty
