I like the idea of AEW what I was hearing before it started, and I really wanted to like it a lot but then not only did I think it was all problems in modern wrestling rolled up into one, but you had people there in positions that they wouldnât be in if they were in other companies so that hurts credibility. But it was OK because Cody was there and we kind of trusted Cody but the main problems are Tony doesnât understand wrestling like he thinks he does. Great your dadâs rich you can buy your way on television you can buy lights and cameras you can buy a wrestling ring. You can set up a payroll for all these wrestlers. Youâve got the one thing to do all that which is the main thing most startup companies donât have.
WWF and WCW just werenât two things two billionaires created overnight. They were smaller territories for decades, and they became the two best territories, the best workers that knew how to get over that had worked across all the other territories finally the ones that were in their prime in the 80s ended up in those two companies. And then those wrestlers taught the next generation, and the next generation hit the greatest Boom period in pro wrestling history. Ted Turner loses control of Turner broadcasting in the new owners donât want WCW so they sell it and in return Vince McMahon doesnât feel like he hast to try anymore.
but yeah, thereâs more to it than just being able to afford all those things to be a national wrestling promotion. Thereâs very little wrestling psychology and thereâs very little good workers today. Thereâs lots of athletic workers that can do a lot of flippy stuff but theyâre not storytellers they canât get the crowd to forget about the part of the show where theyâre supposed to chant this and sing that and just tell a story and just have them in the palm of their hands.
That, and their number one gimmick was that they werenât WWE, because WWE was led by the tyrant Vince McMahon, who had lost touch. Well, Vince McMahonâs gone now and right now I see more people in WWE and Codyâs story than the other show where John Moxley is having a backyard wrestling match and edge is wondering why the fuck he ever signed to this outlaw mud show in the first place.
Well, the problem is Tony doesnât know what to do. For Dave to sit there and say that Tonyâs acting like everything is fine when there is a housefire behind him part of that Daveâs fault. Daveâs the one that sat there and jerks off to this AEW shit since the company started and kept telling Tony everything he was doing was great even though itâs poor storylines itâs matches for the sake of matches field with moves for the sake of moves. Yes, it was great when it first came on TNT but itâs only real weapon was that they werenât WWE it was a place for anti-WWE fans but they werenât AEW fans they just wanted to support AEW to spite WWE thatâs going to take you so far. The rest of this is just being booked like an independent show somewhere anywhere in the country where thereâs 40 people watching except this is run by a billionaire who has the money to get on television
If I ran that promotion I would play smaller places so it looks like ECW with the fans right on top of the action. 2,000-6,000 capacity crowds. I prefer ECWâs lower production also. Walking through a curtain is badass. Iâm past pyro in rock music and wrestling. Itâs been overdone.
