Sports Nightly, presented by the NDOT Highway Safety Office with Greg Sharpe & Jessica Coody, live from our ✨brand new✨ studio in East Memorial Stadium. 6-8pm CT, M-F!

Good evening. I’m Camden Cohn and our sports ticker is brought to you by the 1890 initiative. Earlier today, the Nebraska softball team completed a doubleheader down in Puerto Vallarta against Duke and Long Beach State. In the first game against the Blue Devils, Duke prevailed 6 to 1 thanks to a near perfect game

From pitcher Jayla Wright. Nebraska’s one hit came in the final inning, a Billy Andrews home run and the second game of the day against Long Beach State. The Huskers started off hot with a run in the first four, more in the third and two more in the fifth, and route to

A 7 to 2 win. Here’s Nate Rohrer with the final call. Two outs, runner at second. Kinney brings it in. Becker swings lines it to third where it’s caught by gray to end the game, and Nebraska does win it by a final score of 7 to 2. The Nebraska softball will be back

In action tomorrow against Utah Valley at 10:30 a.m. central. You can listen to the game via the Huskers app or huskers.com. It’s senior night at the Bob Devaney Sports Center, is the fourth ranked Nebraska wrestling team. Hosts. Number nine Michigan. The Huskers will honor seniors Nash Hut maker Payton Robb and Brandon Van

Tassel after the competition. The duel just started and can be watched on the Big Ten Network. The Nebraska track and field team is down in Fayetteville, Arkansas to compete in the Tyson Invitational. Athletes from 35 different schools are competing in the event. Results and more information are available@huskers.com. Finally some college football news.

Ohio State is set to hire UCLA coach Chip Kelly as their new offensive coordinator. Kelly is expected expected to replace Bill O’Brien, who was named head coach at Boston College. Remind you to buckle up and put the phone down. Son goes off the bounce, goes behind her back, works foul line Potts for three. Top of the key. You betcha. Natalie Potts, the Big Ten Freshman of the week with a triple. Getting a hand on it was Juwan Gary, Wiltshire

You all made it to another weekend. Congratulations. And you’re ready for a big Super Bowl weekend. Big parties coming up Sunday. We got big basketball games here in Lincoln tomorrow and Sunday. But are you a big Super Bowl party person? No, not really. I mean I’ve done it. I haven’t

Done. It. You know, I just like to be somewhere where I can hear you know, everything that’s going on because say what you will. I know that this is kind of a touchy subject right now, but, um, you know, I kind of like all the hoopla that surrounds it. And watching

The halftime show and commercials. Commercials all of that kind of stuff. And so it’s certainly a time where I think, um, you know, you can tune in to all, like, sometimes I just mute it or go do something else, but this is the time that I like to watch all that kind

Of stuff, because the Chiefs are in it, I will be I’m not going to have a big party because I want to lock into the game. If the Chiefs weren’t in it, I would have a lot more people over and do that and not be as locked in. But you said

It though. What a fun weekend. I mean, yeah, this is a big weekend. A couple of well, you got wrestling going on right now. You got a couple home basketball games to a big ones for both teams. And so it should be fun. Yeah. You go to the women’s game at Iowa and

Then you can head home party all day Sunday Super Sunday. We’re going to hear from Fred Hoiberg here in Liberty at a press conference today. It’s a big game for the Huskers. Their margin for error is shrunk a little bit with the two losses this week. I was checking out

Some of the Bracketologists today. Jerry Paulman CBS sports.com has them in is one of the last four in uh decourcey uh from Fox sports has them as an 11 seed and then Leonardi at ESPN got him as a ten seed. So they got to start winning games. And I think they

Know that I kind of could see send some stress on coach Hoiberg’s face today at the press conference. We’ll play some of those clips coming up here in just a little bit. Husker softball is now got three games in the books. They won the final game today over

Long Beach State. Nate Rohr is going to join us from Puerto Vallarta in our number two to kind of talk about the three games. Jordy Ball went down with an apparent leg injury last night early in the game. Did not play today. I saw her jogging toward the end of last

Night, so I don’t know that it’s that severe, but I’m sure they’re being very, very cautious. And as they should be. And she was in full uniform today and my dad and I were actually watching real close. We were out, rebounded a couple times, but in the handshake

Line it didn’t look like she was limping at all either. So hopefully it was just kind of a scare. And just be be cautious because yeah, you you need her for the long haul. Long season So Nate will give us an update on all of that coming up in our

Number two. Also So we’ll put a bow on the girls and women’s sports day. Just a few more interviews from the other night at the Hawks Championship Center. We’ll hear from those in our number two as well. And we want to hear from you. 402413 2400 if you have a call

Or a text, the phone number works for both parties. Texting or calling. We’d love to get you on the program here tonight. Maybe you got a Super Bowl pick. I may even go through some of the prop bets. Those are kind of fun to look at. Oh yeah, some of those prop

Bets, you know, like how long is the national anthem going to be those type of things? That’s hilarious to follow because people are so like so mad when they’re like, man, why’d you hold that note so long? Or, you know, that’s that’s great. So we’re going to have some fun

With that a little bit later on. Camden had this in the ticker. What a crazy day in college football. Chip Kelly quitting at UCLA. Going to go to Ohio State as an offensive coordinator. Chip’s name had popped up in the last week about some NFL jobs. He obviously wanted out of there.

I mean, and now he’s gone, he’s left. Yeah, well, think about how how much his name was mentioned as being on the hot seat. And they it’s not like they were awful. You know, they had a couple pretty successful years and but I probably just dealing with the drama and then

The recruiting part of it and I don’t know, I would think that probably for someone like that maybe wants to just go be a play caller and not have to deal with the headaches of everything else of being a head coach at this time. And I bring

That up on the show because the short list does include Tony White. Of course he’s going to. That’s going to happen every time there’s a college football, particularly in California. Yes. Yeah, that’s kind of home base for him. And I, I got to believe that he might have some interest in

That. That’s kind of his home territory. See there’s tons of players out there. So I remember Coach Rhule said that his advice to Tony was go to a place that is pretty easy to recruit to. Well, that would that box is checked there with that program and kind of, uh,

Well, not kind of a really bad time for that to be open. No kidding. And then so now the portal will go back open for the UCLA players. The players at UCLA. And they had some talent there. They do, you know, especially on the defensive side of the ball. But

Then now here comes some more dominoes. Like think about the when it happened with Nick Saban. Saban how many dominoes fell. And now potentially going to see some more dominoes falling. And then you think about okay so say it’s a say it’s a coordinator at this time . You’re getting close to

Spring ball. Then you got to replace find find one. You’re going to do that fits the what what you already have in place. The players and coaches. Well if I were Tony White I would kick the tires on it because that’s that’s kind of where I’ve got a lot of hooks out

There. Yes they have a been a great program like, but like you said, they haven’t been awful. They’ve been okay. Not awesome, but okay. But we’ll we’ll follow that. Also PJ flex name is being thrown out there as a possible for that job. So that could put that boat out

There to that Pacific Ocean. And you know he’s the kind of guy that’s dealt being in a pro market in many apalis. So he’s kind of used to kind of gliding under the radar a little bit I would bet, you know. Yes, it’s kind of a glamorous kind of job

Because of the title and being in LA. But boy they their fans are they don’t show up. They don’t. It’s empty stadiums. I got to I don’t know what their nil support is like. And so, so um, you know, I just go back to when I was working with

Oklahoma and we went out there and played and it was dominated by OU fans, and that’s going to continue to be the case here with these fan bases now in the Big Ten, going out to California, because these these schools only get maybe one time, one trip out to the West

Coast, don’t you think? And these are loyal fan bases, not just Nebraska and Nebraska will flood the Rose Bowl, but other programs like Iowa, Minnesota. There will be teams that travel well to California that it’s still not going to be even. It’s not like they have a daunting home field advantage

Either. They just they don’t have the kind of support either. I think USC’s maybe grown a little bit, but even theirs is down, I think, from the first year that Lincoln was there. Yeah So we’ll follow that again. I don’t know that Tony White would be at the top

Of their list, but I bet he’s on their list at some point in time. And Husker fans, please, if he does kind of pursue this, don’t be mad at him. I mean, it’s a chance to be a head coach in the Big Ten. I mean, he ought to look at this thing

Yeah. And it’s there’s a big difference between being a defensive coordinator at USC than being a head coach at UCLA. Yes So you know, the yes that, you know, didn’t work out with the USC thing when he was in that kind of conversation. But this is a different opportunity. And he can be

Picky. That’s that’s a luxury that he has now is that he can be picky. And so if he. He can even go through the process continuing to get that experience of interviewing for a head job and, and going through that process, and then utilize it for to continue to

Set him up for the future as he continues. Because this is just one of many, many, many, as long as he stays here, every job that’s opening, whether it be a high defensive coordinator or a head coach, I feel like his name probably very well could be mentioned. He’s so

Impressive. Yeah, he just is. Brett McMurphy is saying that PJ might be the number one candidate at USC. Go Oh, I think so. Yeah, I think so. So that’s an it. But it’s just weird. What is today February 9th. Yeah that’s what I’m saying. The timing we’re we’re

Like in a lot of schools a lot of programs start spring ball in less than a month. Yes I know Nebraska is not starting until after spring break, but there are programs that do start before spring break. And so you’re now really close to a month or less than to spring

Ball. And then that again, those dominoes that will fall because of this, it just it can cause some headaches for some programs right now. Well, we’ll we’ll follow it even the LA times, they put out their short list and Tony White was on that list. He’s got ties to that

Program. That’s why just some of it makes sense. But we’ll we’ll continue to follow that. Also the college football world today Boston College whose head coach left to go to the NFL to be a coordinator in the NFL, Bill O’Brien is going to be the head coach at BC. So he leaves.

So you got Chip Kelly going to be with his protege Ryan Day. Ryan Day was on chip staff when they were at New Hampshire. Or one of those places back east. Now he’s going to work for Ryan Day as the offensive coordinator. And Bill O’Brien, who’s pinball between pro ball

Being in the college game, will now go to Boston College. Two weird things happen on in early February, right. But has the salary been released? No. I wonder what it compares from head coach at UCLA to the offensive coordinator. I don’t know, probably it’s got to well, it’s got to be less.

Yeah. But it’s still got to be pretty pretty good. I mean he probably two mill for offensive coordinator Ohio State. Yeah probably I mean what’s sap makes one seven here I think so at least two mill. He was making more than that as a head coach at UCLA but less

Headaches less headaches. And kind of doing he’s a really good play caller. He sure is. He’s a really great offensive mind. And so and we play them Huskers will play the Buckeyes next year. So they’re gonna but that is a weird move. Yes it is. You don’t see people leave

A head coaching job to take a coordinator in college. You just don’t see it just makes you wonder what’s going on at UCLA that he no longer wanted to lead there. Or what if it was more so, just kind of what we’ve talked about with Nick Saban, just maybe the way that

College sports is going, maybe it’s less fun to be a head coach or more stressful and want to go back to just being the play caller and the offensive coordinator. I don’t know, it just that’s a fascinating move for sure. Well, it’s interesting timing as we’ve said, so just bizarre.

You never know what you’re going to get when you wake up in the morning. Something something different could happen. So uh, we’ll follow that. But two, two big moves in college football today. Uh, Huskers, nothing major around the Husker program other than Tony White’s name. Kind of popping up. Uh, on on that

Radar list. All right, uh, Husker softball, the Jordy Ball last night looks like it’s okay . Uh, we’ll get the update from Nate today. Really important, I think, for them to win that final game today over Long Beach. Uh they got shut down by Duke in the earlier match up.

But you want to get down there, get that first win under your belt sooner than later. And I know they’re probably not thrilled with the way this trip has gone so far. But a big win today to kind of finish finish out the day they play one more game tomorrow. Utah Valley.

They’ll be a big uh favorite in that one. All right. Looks like the Huskers dropped the 125 match right I know they they won it. They came came back. Oh was it a forfeit because I know that it wasn’t. Wow Oh wow. Because he came back because he

Was down like five one. Yeah he was down five one. And you and I got in a discussion and weren’t able to watch. So yeah Huskers won. That’s a big win for Caleb Smith. That’s a bit of an upset over that because I think that I think Augustine

The Augustine is ranked I think he was fifth and he’s been a guy that’s competed at nationals for several years now. He’s a guy that, you know those those players are athletes that have been around for four years. And he’s like, gosh, I feel like they’ve been here for ten years. He seems

One. He’s one of those guys. So kind of like Yanni. At 149 from Yale, where he was from. Yeah, but that’s a big win. We were thinking, oh, that might be a match. That. Yeah, that the Huskers dropped. But then I guess they came back. We’ll have to see the highlights

Here. And now Jacob Vandy is at 133. Is up one zero on the number four wrestler in the country Michigan beat Iowa in a duel last week. Huge upset. So this is a Michigan program that’s got some momentum behind them. We’ll keep track of that as we make our way through the

Not going to have many Friday shows from here until about the end of May because of baseball is about ready to start, which will knock us off a lot of Fridays. So for those of you who love the party shows, they’re not many of them left for a while. Does it feel like

It’s time for baseball? It does not. Even though we were commenting right before the show started, it was still kind of daylight out there, which is great. The days are getting a little longer and it’s been a little warmer. Yeah, yeah yeah yeah. You go play golf or

Anything today. Go hit the golf ball. No I didn’t yeah I watched softball all day. Oh you did. Yeah I bought I caved and bought the flow package. Yeah. Because you can watch them all this weekend I knew my dad was going to be here. He’s probably going to want to

Watch. Oh, you. He loves watching all softball. And not just, you know, the teams that he follows. He’ll he’ll watch it all day. But then also they’re on flow next weekend too. So I thought well two weekends. Yeah Yeah. So you can knock out kill you know a

Couple birds. So I was like I’ll just get the month pass and bite the bullet. So yeah I watched both both games. Wow. Okay. I got outside, took did some walks with the dogs and did some. Went to had a nice lunch somewhere in town. I don’t want to give a free plug.

So I’m not going to say where I had lunch. Can’t do that. They’re not an advertiser with us so not going to give them a free plug. So that’s good. Uh, all right, Fred Hoiberg around the lunch time was a meeting with the media today. They had a practice to get ready for

Tomorrow’s matchup with Michigan. And by the way Nebraska nine point favorite in that game at home tomorrow. This has been a tough stretch. We’ve talked about it where Nebraska played three out of four on the road. Started with Maryland, came home, got the big upset over Wisconsin, and

Then the two trips to Illinois to play the Illini and the Wildcats. And then you got Michigan tomorrow all in a fairly short amount of time. Here’s the coach talking about this stretch. Yeah. Our guys you know, I think you saw it in the game the other night. I

Thought we did play tired. And you know finally we found a way to pull back into the game late in the second half. And you know it’s been a really, really tough stretch. We knew that. We knew this was going to be as tough a four game stretch as we

Had with those three road games in Wisconsin at home, and then finishing off the tough stretch with Michigan tomorrow and you know, we finally get the bye week. I think we’re the last team in the league to get it. And you know we just got to find a way to get through it.

Tomorrow. We’re playing a team that’s coming off of their best game. I thought from start to finish of the season, uh, Michigan has played 12 games in the league. They’ve had the lead at halftime in ten of them. And in one of them that they didn’t have a lead. They

Were down one to Illinois. The only game that, you know, really, they were, uh, in a tough position was at Purdue, which pretty much everybody when they go to Purdue is in that situation. So it’s a team, uh, you know, it’s going to be playing with confidence after

Finding a way to beat a very good Wisconsin team. And we got to come out of the gate strong. It’s going to be very important in this one is to get off to a good start. And then and then hopefully you know, play the way we’re supposed to. And do

What the do the things that make us successful for 40 minutes. Yeah. You cannot allow Michigan to have some confidence. Right. You got to have a good start and not just a good start to both halves really. And but they’ve done pretty good at that at home.

You know it’s kind of been on the road where they haven’t got off to the best start. But you know definitely got to get out. You cannot let a team like Michigan build some confidence here. And got to get the crowd involved early because certainly they’ve been a huge

Factor kind of due to Michigan, what northwestern did in Nebraska where they kind of put them in a hole early. And you climbing up hill do that same thing tomorrow. I think they’ll they’ll be fine. All right. What about Michigan? It’s been a weird year. Juwan Howard a

Lot of people think it’s kind of maybe toward the end of his tenure there at Michigan and some people transfer out of the program, including Hunter Dickinson, who ended up at Kansas, uh, and now is a Jayhawk. What about this Michigan team? Here’s the coach. Physical city, I mean,

And I guess he could probably say that about most teams in this league, but it’s another team that’s over 30% on offensive rebound percentage. And you just got to find a way to compete on the glass because they’re coming. They come every possession to the glass and we

Have to make first contact. If not you know obviously we’re not athletic and long enough to get those balls when we don’t make first contact. You know, the other thing is we got to we got to find a way to generate some extra possessions. And, you know, we’ve been, you know,

Under five the last two games on the offensive rebounds. And that’s another reason, you know Josiah and I talked to him about this. You know played the other night without a rebound. That can’t happen. You know when we play a bigger lineup like that you know rink didn’t rebound great the other night.

Our guards have to get in and join the fight and find a way to help. When that thing goes up and get the long ones. With analytics, you know, those long shots equal long rebounds. And our guards have to get in there. Our bigs are locked up with some monsters in there. So

Our guards have to do a better job of attacking the glass as well. He’s he’s on that mantra isn’t he, about rebounding and turnovers. Those are the two big things. So that that was pretty much what he I think is focused on for this one tomorrow. Well that’s been the

Issue when they don’t win games. One of those areas have been really bad. Yeah. Even if you just clean it up a little bit you know I mean but and think about the margin of some of their losses. I mean yes, there were some that were pretty out of hand, but there

Were a couple that they very well Rutgers and Illinois had. They maybe not turned it over a few more times or maybe didn’t give up so many offensive rebounds. Um, for so or maybe kind of cause or created another possession for themselves by getting an offensive rebound. So, you know

, it’s something that he continues to say that this team has to do. And I think we’ve seen it now on their losses. A lot of times it’s one of those two things that that were really out of hand for the Huskers. It’s crazy, but it’s a big time barometer for this

Team and just if you’re at the game tomorrow or you’re listening to Kent and Jake, just kind of keep listening for those rebound totals and those turnover totals probably tells you how the team’s doing. All right Juwan Gary is back. Uh missed those three games back. Got in the starting lineup the

Other night. Played really well. Did foul out late in the game. The coach was asked what’s it been like and what has he seen from Juwan since he’s been back from the injury Yeah he’s doing good. He you know obviously we’ve been playing him a lot of minutes.

It hurt when he fouled out the other night, but you know the one thing you know Juwan is going to bring every time he steps on the floor is energy. And you know physicality and versatility I’ve liked him guarding on the perimeter. He’s he’s a very good perimeter defender. He moves his feet

Well and obviously has the ability to guard against bigger guys as well as I talked to him about he’s got to get back to that junkyard dog offensive rebounding mentality and get after it and go generate some extra possessions for us, especially when we’re not making shots at a high clip.

Yeah. He just it’s a game changer when Juwan Gary gets some of those offensive rebounds, those big offensive rebounds. And so um I don’t know if how healthy he feels if he is back to 100% pretty good. Yeah it looks like it. But I know you know a lot of a couple

Of those guys are not. And so they’re just trying to fight through it. But those are those are some of the things that I think, um, you know, in some of these games you miss a little bit is, is some of those big offensive rebounds where he’s flying out of nowhere and

Giving this team a second chance. It just it’s amazing how much momentum it gives a team when you do get those big offensive rebounds and then you’re able to score and get a put back off of it. Would you say he’s the most athletic guy on the team? Probably, yeah, I

Would think so. Maybe Eli Rice is pretty athletic. Um, but he’s just still he’s still growing. You know, he’s still he’s just a freshman. Yeah. It’s a pup against a yeah, a dog. Um, matter. Yeah, he might be, but we just haven’t seen him. Yeah. He’s he’s just so

Green basketball wise. But if you just talk in terms of just, like, straight athleticism, well, I just you just kind of sense a different kind of an athlete out there. When Juwan’s playing and playing well. And so Huskers need him to be good. If you pulled up the men’s

Standings right now in the Big Ten, the bottom two teams Ohio State and Michigan, how about that? They are 13 and 14th. So Michigan’s the opponent tomorrow. The coach was asked about the depth of the league. Pretty good answer here from Fred. Yeah I mean listen teams in our league are are playing

Start to finish. They’re playing really well right now. And you know Penn State’s rolling right now with with with another big win for them last night over Iowa. You know Minnesota’s got it going right now I mean start top to bottom this this league is very dangerous. So if you’re not

Ready to go when that ball goes up and when you lace them up you’re going to get you’re going to get knocked off. I don’t care who you’re playing. You know that’s obviously shown with a win within the top of the league a week ago. And Michigan knocks him off. And

Then played a great game. So we’re going to have to be on our A game the rest of the way. We got what seven games left. And every one of them is incredibly important. And you know one at a time. But we got to be on our A game if we’re

Going to have a chance to play in the postseason. If the season ended right now, of course it doesn’t. Nebraska would be the nine seed, but but a win or two and they might jump to about five. It’s that yeah it is packed. I mean it is jumbled up there in the middle.

So that’s where every win is critical. And you’ve got to win the ones you’re supposed to win. Right. And so yeah, it’s anything can happen at this point. Certainly would like to have the first by I don’t know about a double by. Weren’t you guys having that conversation

The other day. I need that win in the second round. If you don’t play it you can’t win it. If you’re not. I think actually, I think the loss the other night to northwestern might have pinched Nebraska out of one of the top four. That may have made it really hard

For them to get to the top four, but we’ll see seven games to go. So quite a few games we’re just seeing, anything can happen. Yeah. You know there’s teams that it’s just so hard for teams. We’ve seen to go in on the road and but hopefully

At this point the thing that I guess a little bit for me is if, if Michigan stays at the bottom, that at least Nebraska gets to play them at the end of the season two on the road, that maybe that won’t be as challenging if they’re kind of got their dobbers down because

They’re at the bottom of the pack and not a lot to play for at that point. We’re getting some questions in the chat about Blaise Keita, but he has every time Blaise kind of gets close, I think he has a setback. That foot just is not cooperating. After the surgery

That he had in the off season. And also I think you get to some point where maybe you want to try to save him for next year. If he can’t, if he can’t go 100, he’s got another year left. Bring him back next season at this point, what what

Does it do? I mean, he’s not in game shape. No. So even if he can get work himself to where he can even provide you’re you’re just. Is it worth it to just get a few minutes from him off the bench at this point? Because he’s still, from what

It sounds like, a ways away from being able to play significant minutes, he just has had some several setbacks as the season has gone on where they’re kind of going, okay, I think he’s close and then kind of reinjured it in practice and then it’s kind of back to

Square one for him. I’m sure he’s frustrated, you know? I know he’d love to be out there playing right now and then it’s too now you’ve got kind of a rhythm going on. How does he fit I don’t know, I just I don’t know if that’s the right

Move at this point to be able to. Yeah, certainly you would have liked to have that depth, but I think you would have liked to have him back back in January. Right. You know, not not kind of here as you’re towards the downhill slide of, of the season and certainly the

Big Ten as well. So I just I don’t and you don’t want to push it either. If he’s going to continue to have setbacks, you don’t want to throw him out there. Because at this point if he plays it’s the years burn, right? So I wish there was a

Rule, right? Like the football rule 3 or 4 games. Five games. Such a luxury. Because I mean, even like a guy like Marquis Buford who was injured, but then he still got to play at the end of the season because he had to work back from an injury. So you know, you’re

Still able to have those four games with those, with that guy, with him or whoever it might be, and utilize that redshirt year for the next year. I wish yeah, I wish there was something, but I don’t know how you would even how would you even do it with basketball

Well, football’s kind of a third of the season. Couldn’t it be 7 or 8 games and save your year? I mean, why not move it at the beginning or the end? Yeah. Wherever you play it, crypto King wants to know, Greg, what happens if the Huskers win the rest of their

Games? They be the national champions. Very simple. All right. Contact 8112 days before you dig to protect your underground utilities and yourself. If it’s free, it’s easy. It’s the law. 402 413 2400. If you want to fire off a call or a text, we’re back with more. Next, get ready to rule

Broadcast center, sponsored by Acres, the Midwest Premiere John Deere dealer supplying the equipment and service to advance agriculture and much more. Acres solutions for every field. Greg Sharp, Jessica Cootie with you on a Friday night. Kind of wish we were at the Devaney Center. Yeah, it is rocking out there right now.

She had done the show live out there. I’m not sure we could have talked. We’ve been so Huskers have won all three matches. Terrific matches. All three of them. Yeah. They’ve been they’ve been close. Come from behind wins for a couple of guys. Um but they’ve been showing pans of the atmosphere

And it is packed in there. It is um certainly a great crowd for Senior Night, but it looks like the Huskers have got some big time momentum and a couple of these wins already were upsets. They were I don’t think um, I think the guy that Jacob van de Bie was ranked pretty

High and then Brock Hardy just won in a pretty thrilling finish to the match. You’ve got the number one wrestler in his weight class, Ridge Lovett, out there right now against the guy who’s ranked sixth in the country, and Austin. Look, he’s about to get a pen. He got near

Four near fall points there. I mean, fans are on their feet as we’re watching some coverage from BTN here inside the studio. So senior night last home match and you’ve got Peyton Rob who will wrestle next is a senior. This will be the last time he wrestles at the Devaney Center. And Nash

Technically is a senior as well, so he’ll be his last time to wrestle you. Why Why is he I don’t know, why would that be? I wonder if it’s because. Okay I don’t know if the Covid year has anything to do with it, but usually you have you know,

There’s been athletes that have played four years of one sport and then played another sport for their fifth year. You can play five years, but so like there was a tennis player at OU that played four years and then played her fifth year, she played basketball. There’s a volleyball player that did that

As well that played four years of volleyball and then played their fifth year of basketball. So. I don’t know if it’s how that count is because he’s this is only his one year wrestling. So I don’t know if it’s because of the Covid year. Could be could be. I was surprised when

I heard that too because he has, I think, two years left of football eligibility, doesn’t he. Because Ty Ty I think is in definitely his last one. Ty Robinson. But I thought Nash had two two years left. So we’ll keep you posted on the wrestling Ridge is dominate up seven nothing late first

Period. He almost got a tech a fall earlier in in period one didn’t quite accomplish that Doug in Norfolk on our text line said getting back to Chip Kelly, the TV talking heads think that there’s so much stress and being the head coach now that that’s why you got

Guys like Saban and Coach K retiring the coach wants to spend time on other things more than coaching. If you’re the OC , you don’t have a lot of the head coaching headaches. You’re sitting in there in a room and diagraming plays. That’s probably perfect. That’s kind of what I was thinking. You

Know, he’s getting towards the latter end of his career, not wanting to deal with all the headaches of having to raise the Nil money and the transfer portal and all of that. But you know, he he’s proven that he can be in charge of great offenses everywhere that he’s

Been. And so, you know, he can just kind of maybe just manage that, not have to worry about as much as the other stuff could be by the way, I pulled it up. So 2020 was Nash’s first year. It was Covid, then 2021 was freshman, sophomore, junior. So this will be his

Last year in football. Yeah, for both he and Ty. Yeah. And you know I think I talked to the big dog about this. But Nash has got to be on some pro scouts radars right. The way he played this past fall. And it’s going to be too I mean, just

Now that he’s lost some weight and I, I’ve got a nutrition podcast coming out with Kristin Coggin, the director of Football Nutrition. And this is not part of the interview, but we were talking about Nash and she was just saying how great that he’s handled everything and how he’s just. So it’s just

Been really unbelievable how he’s managed both and he’s not missed anything with football. He’s still early on time, doing everything he needs to do. But I asked her about the weight and she said no, he’s done it the right way. And so he’s and he is a guy that he can still

Eat. You know, for some of those wrestlers, you have to do, some of them can’t eat at all, depending on how. But for him, he can still eat. So it’s not like he’s starving himself to maintain the weight. But um, so he was able to do it really

Healthy. But she said it won’t be a problem for him to just put it back on. But all that being said, it will be interesting to see how he plays at the lighter weight, right? Because now you have you you have on film what he did at the heavyweight. Now let’s see what

He can do. A little bit lighter, which we’ve heard Tony White say that he’d like for him to do that role as well. Yeah. And even pot rose made the comment that I think Nash played at about 330 last fall. He had to get to 285 to

Wrestle. It’s a lot. Yeah but I think the football coaches would like him in that 300 range. They think he might be a little bit quicker and still have the he’s so strong. He’s as strong as a bull. Yeah. And she said I mean that’s what she’s like. It won’t be a

Problem for him to get back up to that kind of ideal weight. So um yeah I can’t wait to see how he’s so athletic. Right? I mean, when you were gone, I was doing one of the shows with Coach Hoiberg and they had announced the dunk contest, and he Coach Hoiberg was like,

Well, is Nash. Nash in it because I mean but he’s just a you know he’s he’s an athlete. Yes he is. And so just he was joking obviously. But you know just the way that are they going to do that I don’t know I don’t know got canceled.

Remember I’m not sure what happened with that. Did the did did the head coach Nix it I wonder if he did. I have no idea. I have no I haven’t heard anything. I just know that it was happening and then it wasn’t happening. But Nash is a really good athlete and so

That’s what I you know, now that he’s got a little bit a little bit of a lighter load, we’ll see how that athleticism really comes to fruition here. I don’t I would have loved to have seen like Heinrich Haarberg in that dunk contest. Yeah. Because I think he’s he

Won. He won the, um, team. That’s right. Competition last year when they did that, the Husker Olympics or whatever it was that it was called. Yeah. So yeah, that got kind of halted. I wonder if the head coach got involved in that deal moving forward. Uh, Mark in

Omaha says, why is Miss Clark meaning Caitlin Clark? Uh, making appearances in the Nebraska Hy-Vee and Nebraska’s nil needs to step up. Even if I . Hy-Vee is an Iowa based company, I was in a Hy-Vee the other day here in Lincoln and saw they had like a life size

Poster of her. She’s a big spokesperson for Hy-Vee. And yes, Hy-Vee is located in their home. Headquarters is in Des Moines. Why is it trickled over to here? I don’t know, but it is kind of awkward when you walk your like a black. Did you take your black marker and draw

Out like a black on her security camera? On it, and I didn’t want to get caught. Voice of the Huskers caught defacing Caden Clark at the Hy-Vee in Lincoln. Oh, they want to make that headline. I’m sure my dad was asking me too when, um, I thought the team

Would get in, but I guess they’re here now. They probably won’t be here till tomorrow. So what was that about that they’re doing? Said that asking would she be making it? Oh, I see why is your cut out at the hives? I thought she was making an appearance. No, no, no, but

I remember last year at the their team hotel, it was just flooded with with some of the fans there trying to meet her, get her autograph. I don’t think she’s going to get the record. She scored 27 last night, so she would need 39. Yeah, that’s a we were watching

Real close. Um, so that would be a challenge. But she’s been she’s capable of doing it. She is. But um, that’s that’s a little bit more challenging than if it was like 25. I would think they would want their next game after Nebraska is at home. I would think they’d want

To do it. Yeah, I and I would think she would want to do it at home. I think so too. But it’s also go to is going to be really interesting to watch how she manages it, because, you know, Kelsey Plum said, talked about how when it was getting

Closer for her, it was like every you know, they had a they had a stat tracker on the broadcast last night. They did countdown counting down. They used to do that with Trae Young. They would have like a Trae Young stat tracker. And it’s just a lot of pressure to

Deal with. And that’s what Kelsey has told her. Like, hey, when you get closer it’s like every point and they’re just watching everything. So it’s just kind of a lot to manage. And Kaitlin can score in bunches. But still, the closer you get, it can probably you can probably start feeling the

Magnitude of it. They had a girl go for 47 last night that, um, the, uh, Stuckey was the girl she she played really well against Nebraska, too. Man. That’s where we were having that conversation. What do you do against Iowa? Do you just. And it looked like Penn State

Originally was going to try to take the other ones out of it, and then they changed their and just tried to lock in on Caitlin Clark. And then that’s what opens up there. That’s a hard team to guard. But if you can score with them, I don’t think they’re great defensively. They’ll they’ll

Get they want the ball back. Yeah. So do what you want. We want the ball back sometimes Caitlin play. She kind of plays the lead defense. Sometimes So if you can score with them you you can certainly have a chance. And then you just get a few stops when you can. But

They are hard to stop. Guess what’s happening at the men’s game tomorrow. What eight putt for a Porsche for a Porsche and Drew Swanson from Broken Bow has been chosen as tomorrow’s contestant for a putt for a Porsche out of for Porsche of Omaha. If Andrew makes that

Putt, the full court putt at halftime, he’s going to win a 2024 Porsche, making you could be the next contestant in one of the remaining games. For information and get the official rules, go to huskers.com/putt. That is so exciting. When they do that, it is. It’s hard. That thing’s a

Little bitty hole, but how the heck do you do that? Let’s get a make. They’ve been close. There’s been a couple close people have hit the boards. You know Jake had a couple of pointers for the last time he did when he was on. He he’s watched it closely. He can kind

Of see. So we need to maybe go back and listen to that. But he thinks he’s got the recipe for how you make it. I’m sure he does. Ridge just dominated by the way 11 four win for Ridge Huskers have not lost a match up 12 zero. Great start.

Acres solutions for every field for 02413 2400, the number to be part of the program tonight. It’s a wrestling doubleheader

On BTN tonight. The Huskers and Michigan in a huge crowd and now have kind of a wide shot of Devaney looks pretty big and then right after it’s Penn State Iowa that’s going to be a monster match tonight. You like college wrestling BTN play spee tonight. Absolutely. Pete and

Rob about to go and the guy he’s wrestling is pretty good too. Will Lou and is the number ten wrestler in the country. So that’ll be another good good match. You know in Nash it’s a obviously because people know him because of football. But but this guy right here Peyton

Rob is a guy that really deserves to be celebrated tonight. What a career. You know. And just everything he’s been through. But he’s just been such a huge part of this program. And this is a guy that battled through a lot to get to where he is. And so, um, yeah,

It should be a special night for him. So has that big wrap on that that left leg, doesn’t he, that he probably, probably permanently will be there for him. Husker Mark in Iowa was that Greg’s joke of the week? Lmao Oh go big Red. You had uh,

I gave you a ten on that in the chat. We didn’t like Kohl’s last night. We didn’t get it. I don’t think my dad had to explain it to me when we got it. So once it was explained, it wasn’t any better. Yeah, well, I got a little bit like

It was lighter, but yeah, it was not his best effort. I didn’t think it was funny even when it was explained to me. I think. I think that was the general consensus from the text line and the chat room. By the way, your mom’s back in the

Chat room that I was going on here. Yeah. Sherry. Uh, you know, she said that, uh, her and Crypto King are besties now, so she had to come back and say hi to everybody. Uh, crypto. He’s a managing the whole thing inside there. Oh, yeah? Well, she. So I’m

Surprised she even knew how to log in and chat on YouTube. Um, I was really impressed by that. But So the reason why she got on is because during Amy’s show last night, she talked about how her mom was her role model, and she played six on six. I

Was like, my mom played six on six and she can’t shoot a lick. And so she said she felt like she needed to get on and defend herself. So that’s why she got on last night. She watches a lot. They listen a lot, but that’s the first time I’ve ever

Seen her in the chat. So she’s hooked now, I guess that’s, you know, once you once you enter, you can enter or you can’t leave. That’s kind of why you like the Hotel California. What does it take to be a part of the OGS at this point? They

Have to vote on you, I think, and they’re very strict. They’re very tough voting bloc, uh, that is in there. So strict criteria. Yeah, there sure are So tomorrow that men’s game 530 late afternoons tip kind of an unusual tip time at PBA for the Huskers in Michigan. 430 for

Pregame coverage here on the air. And the women play at one on Sunday at 1230 for pregame coverage. That’s perfect time. You can go to that. Or if you don’t have tickets, you can’t get there because it’s already sold out. But if you got tickets, you can go to the game

Plenty of time to get home and watch the Super Bowl. Uh, kick off. Are you looking forward to usher? Are you an usher fan? He’s the halftime act. I am. I think he’ll he’ll be a good performer. I think he’ll, you know, because he dances and all that. He’s got some good hits

That I think are pretty generational. And you think about a Super Bowl halftime performer. What is an artist that really appeals to a lot of different generations of, of listeners. And he’s kind of a guy that has hit a lot of different age groups. You know, uh, Camden Usher guy. Yeah, I’d

Say so. He’s got, like you said, a lot of classic hits. I mean, I think pretty much anybody under the age of 60 probably knows a couple of usher songs. Yeah, yeah. Which that’s good. You kind of want that. There all kinds of stuff been going on after the 40

Niners. Were not happy with their practice facility, they thought they got the short end of the strip there. And then I guess somebody pulled the fire alarm in their hotel a couple nights ago. So everybody had to get up and move. And they really met him about that too.

So some honorary chief again did you try to make that happen? I have not been to Las Vegas in six months, so it was not me. I was not not out there for that. They also announced the hall of Fame class coming up for the next year. Uh, for

Canton. They do that during the Super Bowl week. It’s a class of a lot of guys that played quite a while ago. Steve McMichael is in there. You’ve got Randy. Uh uh, grandsire is in there for the former Denver Broncos. So there’s some older guys that made the Hall of

Fame, uh, for the National Football League. Uh, but that’s a that’s quite a cool thing they do that the week of the Super Bowl, and they have all those guys out there who are up for it. They know they’re kind of in the market for that. What a quick hour Peyton Rob down

Around the team. She left, uh, in the second inning of last night’s game and did not play today. What’s the latest on Jordi? Yeah, I think Rhonda Revelle and this coaching staff and the athletic training staff is going to be very conservative with her. Uh, Jordi did not play in either

Game today, but she was fully suited up. She went through warm ups. I found it interesting that. Um, when the team went through its full pregame routine, uh, before the Duke game, uh, Rhonda Revelle had all the other pitchers out in front of the dugout and Jordi Ball was right there, uh,

With Caitlin Olenski and with Sarah Harness, um, and Elisa Golfin. And they were taking ground balls. She was throwing them ground balls. So Jordi participated in pregame warm ups. I think it’s unlikely that she’ll play tomorrow. And I think this Husker coaching staff and athletic training staff, uh, uh, just wants to

Get her back to Lincoln and get a full evaluation on where she is. Uh, check on that leg. It’s her right leg. Uh, the leg that she plants with, um, I actually, I beg your pardon? It be the left leg, uh, that she plants with. So that’s a leg

That takes on a lot of force and so, um, they, they want to make sure that’s right before we go much farther in the season. Uh, and so, like I said, don’t expect to see Jordi tomorrow. Um, but there’s not a whole lot of information about the Long terme prognosis. And

There probably won’t be until, uh, the early part of next week . How many text messages did you get asking about what her status is? Oh, I got a few. I got a few. I had friends asking about it and a couple of tweets. And, you know, obviously she this would be a

Monument loss for Nebraska softball. She’s been the driver of the uptick in interest and expectations. Um, she’s an elite pitcher. I kind of struggled last night, uh, even before the injury, Washington was just making contact on everything. I don’t know how they were able to foul off some

Of those pitches, but they were to their immense credit. Um but, you know, Jordy Ball on this team makes it a team that has very realistic aspirations of winning a regional hosting a regional, winning a super regional, going to Oklahoma City. Those aspirations take a pretty big hit. If she can’t go

But I I’ll be interested to hear what we hear this week because cause like I said, having been around the team, uh, the setup of this tournament is such that you, you walk to your games, the resort is only a few blocks away, uh, from the ballpark. And Jordy has walked, uh, to

And from the ballpark. And so I would think that if there was a real, real big concern, um, that she wouldn’t be doing that. But also, Jordy is very tough, and you always have questions. Well, maybe you don’t feel something. Or maybe there’s something that’s not bothering you now, but we have

To go back and check and look at the MRI. You know, it’s such a highly anticipated debut outside of the injury, what was your perspective of kind of her the lead up for her, how she approached it were there any nerves? Could you tell she’s excited just again making her

Debut with the Huskers, the team she grew up watching, her hometown team just I guess, just what was her demeanor like before she took the field for the first time with Nebraska? Well, near as I could tell, uh, she seemed pretty normal. Pretty uh, focused, locked in.

Uh, I think she generally does a pretty good job of controlling her emotions. But I will say that you know, there were a couple of warm up pitches that went back to the to the backstop. So I think she was very excited about the opportunity to be, uh, to

Compete with the Huskers. And, um, you know, so I think the excitement level was a little high. Um, but she really worked to try and control it. And unfortunately, Washington was just a really tough opponent. I was surprised at how well that lineup that had lost a lot of

People from last year was able to hang in against her. Nina had to be nice to see the bats come alive in the Long Beach State game. It only had three hits in the first two games. What about the offensive approach? What did you see? Did they change anything for the

Long Beach State game? You know I don’t know that they changed much of anything. I think they were able to barrel up some balls. Um you wonder how how helpful it was that Billy Andrews hit that home run in the seventh inning of the Duke game? Uh, yes. That meant you

Had to go six innings without much of anything, without anything at all, really. Uh, but that gave the team a little bit of confidence and belief that they could hit. And I think that carried over into the long Beach game. Uh, it was a little step down in competition, but I mean, Long

Beach was a NCAA AA regional team and had one of the best pitching staffs, uh, in the Big West Conference, their conference and Nebraska faced their best pitcher. So it’s not like they just had a batting practice pitcher out there. But uh, I think maybe taking a step down in competition, uh, maybe

Facing a pitcher, maybe a little more in their weight class right now helps. Uh, it it’s generally tough for Nebraska to make that adjustment. Uh, from practice to games that first week, it seems like, uh, that that adjustments a little bumpier, uh, for Nebraska than most teams. And maybe we saw that

Kind of manifest itself and that slow start. Yeah. I was going to ask you just you know, again, you think about this is the first time they’re seeing this kind of weather being outside the, the, the struggles that they had, being able to practice outside with so much

Snow here, how much can that, you know, play an effect. And maybe finding a rhythm here out of the gate for a softball team. Yeah, I think it’s historic really hurt Nebraska that that early season adjustment to the difference in conditions hitting outside hitting in sunlight and then at

Night time, I think Rhonda Revelle pointed that out as one thing that really benefited Ruby Mellon and made her fairly difficult to pick up. On Thursday night from Washington. Uh, but I think just the overall picture of going outside and playing and playing on the dirt, not just on turf,

Um, it’s an adjustment. And it tends to be a bumpy one for Nebraska. So that’s the bad news. The good news is this is a Nebraska team that has quite a few opportunities against rank top, uh, ranked opposition in, uh, the they’ll have more opportunity to build an RPI,

Resume, pick up some big time wins and also Nebraska tends to get better as the season goes along. An example Rhonda Revelle used was the 2013 season. Nebraska’s most recent trip to the women’s college World Series. The Huskers faced Oregon week three, so not even week one. Week three. The ducks

Hammered the Huskers at the Mary Nutter Tournament. And of course, that year in Super Regionals, Nebraska went out to Eugene, won two out of three, and really could have won the second game, too. So it’s one of those deals. Rhonda really underlined the idea that it’s not how you start, it’s how you

Finish. And especially for a team that faces some geographic disadvantages. As Nebraska does. I think that’s something they can hold on to. Hey, if you’re the Duke pitcher and you’ve got what’s on the line and you’re you’re you’re about to face Billy Andrews, how much is that? The last batter that

You want to face with what’s on the line? Yeah. No that that’s, uh, that’s definitely a bad matchup for you. Uh, especially, you know, you’ve got an All American. And that’s one thing that, you know, is underrated about the softball. Perfect game. Obviously the baseball perfect game. You have

To go through two more innings and they’re rarer because the balance of the game is so swung toward the hitters. It’s certainly more of a hitters game than softball is. The softball has started to drift that way, but the one thing about the softball perfect game that that makes it really tough

, uh, beyond just the general nature of the achievement is you’re sitting there, the finish line, the promised land within reach. But you’ve got to go through the best hitters. And especially where Nebraska tends to put the best hitters right at top. Um, you know that that’s a Heartbreak Hill type

Deal when you’re trying to finish a marathon and it’s a little hill that turns into a really big hill. And, uh, it was good that Billy was able to come through in that spot and, and at least give Nebraska a run. And like I said, I think it was something that gave them

A little momentum and a little belief heading into the Long Beach game. Well, tomorrow you’ve wrap it up, Utah Valley. They’re playing Washington right now. In fact, I think it’s four three Huskies in the third. What do you know about the final opponent for the Huskers down there tomorrow?

Well Utah Valley has had a tough start to this tournament. Uh Oklahoma dominated them on Thursday. Uh, then earlier today. They um Utah Valley was a runner I guess, uh, before the Huskers, uh, face before the Huskers played Thursday. Utah Valley got run ruled by Iowa State. Uh, so it. I think

It’s safe and fair to say they are the weakest of the four teams. Uh, that Nebraska has played. But I mean, they’re hanging in there against Washington and so they have a little something, uh, in their back pocket. But, uh, you hope that Nebraska is going in with some confidence and some belief

After the win today. What about pitching left for tomorrow? I know both harness and Kenny have appeared a couple of times. What do you think the coach Revelle will do with on In the Circle tomorrow? You know, I wouldn’t be surprised if Sarah Harness goes again just because Kenny, uh, started

The game against Duke and then pitched the second half. Uh against long Beach. So I would I would not be surprised if Sarah Harness started. I would be even less surprised to see Kaitlyn Canning at some point. In fact, I would bet on seeing Kenny at some point, maybe even

More strongly than than harness getting the start. But you know, it could be a situation where you give all three of the pitchers that are healthy, that you expect to have in your rotation. Harness Kenny. Uh, and, uh, and the left hander, uh, for the Huskers. Olenski Caitlin Olenski. Uh, maybe you

Give them one time through the order. Um, but there are some possibilities there. I I they could start. Caitlin Kenny as well and just try to win the game early and lock the thing up. I don’t think Kenny’s workload today precludes her from throwing tomorrow, especially when the Huskers

Don’t play until next Friday, so she’ll have plenty of rest. All right, I got some rapid fire questions for you from the guys in the chat. All right. Who’s your pick for the Super Bowl? Chiefs. The Chiefs you got the Chiefs. All right. Um yes. Who is your pick for

Freshman of the year. Early pick for freshman of the year for the softball team. Freshman of the year for the softball team I think Sammy say it well Sammy Bland has started and has looked okay. I’m going to say Emerson Coke though. Uh, power hitting, uh, first baseman and

Pitcher. I think I would be surprised if they use her much as a pitcher. Uh, but as a first baseman, as a power hitter, I think there are some real possibilities there. So I think cope is going to be the freshman of the year before it’s all said and done. All

Right. How nice is the pool there? It’s nice. I’ve walked past it a couple of times. I haven’t been in it yet. Uh, but we play early tomorrow and, uh, I will be able to relax by the pool a little bit after that. All right, buddy? Hey, I know

You love softball. You know, in a couple of hours, Washington and Oklahoma are matching up. You’re going to go back over and watch it, aren’t you? Oh, you know, I would love to, but I. I want to get ready for my game. I’ll sure game track it.

And uh, I’ll have an ear on, uh, on Jessica’s old pal Chris Plank. Yeah Down here for, uh, for Oklahoma radio. But I don’t know that I’ll make the trip back. Although I suppose I could, uh, but I think I’ll stay here, load up on some food, and, uh, keep an ear on

The radio. Matt Smith will go with you. He’ll walk over there with you. Yeah. You know, it wouldn’t shock me if Matt’s sitting there listening to it, too. So uh, we’ll probably be texting each other back and forth, and we’ll probably be, you know, here in the same resort. It’s funny, uh,

Actually, if I really wanted to write by the elevators, you can look out and see into the ballpark. So, I mean, it’s not quite the Wrigley Field field rooftops. It’s not that good a view, but, you know, I could take I could take the phone and listen to sooner softball radio

With Chris Plank and have my binoculars out there. And I think people would get a little worried about me, but I could watch the game and I’d be right by my room. We got this creep in the lobby. He’s got binoculars. He’s looking out over the people. What’s going on? Call security. Softball

Time, time. Coach Manning is so funny to watch. He’s like, I love him. He’s he’s like making the moves. It’s like dance shadow dancing, right? Shadow boxing almost. I wish the camera was on you. You doing that? Uh, Huskers have not lost a match yet. Up 15 zero. The

Team, period. I was going to say this, but we ran out of time during the break. I think this is their best duel of the season. It’s been fun so far from start to where it is now, just a complete performance and everybody kind of being at their best and kind of peaking.

That’s what you want. It’s the same thing with every other sport. You want to start peaking at this time and kind of putting things together. And uh, I would say Michigan was a good match up here tonight. So the fact that they’re doing what they’re doing right now,

That’s certainly, uh, is a good sign for the Huskers. People that are they’re getting their money’s worth because these matches, Ridge kind of dominated his the other ones have all been just right down to the end. In fact, even had a coach’s challenge in the Peyton Rob match thinking that the

Michigan restaurant might have got a nearfall, but they waved it off. And so Peyton won 2 to 1 in that. All right, um, you had some interviews from the other night that we didn’t get on on Wednesday night. We want to go back and pick off a couple of those. Yeah, just

Such a special day. National girls, Women in Sports day and they had the event at the Hawks Championship Center, where they had every women’s athletic program represented except for softball, because they’re in Puerto Vallarta. But athletes from all those programs are there, and they welcomed in young girls from the community

To come in and get active and they had a lot of fun, cool stations. And so I had a chance to catch up with Asia Hall. Right. That’s where we’re going. First, Asia Hall from Nebraska women’s gymnastics. Well how special was this event to be able to be a part of it

For you guys to all get to come together and, you know, again, on National Girls and Women in Sports Day, honestly, it was amazing to see all the little kids out here, the little girls. It was amazing to like show them what it looks like for us women out here in the

Sports. It was fun. You guys had quite the popular event, uh, station over here with with gymnastics. How what were you guys doing? And tell us about your station. Yes. We just had the panel mats out for everybody. Everybody wanted to show us their somersaults and cartwheels, and we showed them

A couple flips, too. So you and as a team, you guys all came together. Why was it important for you guys to be out here together to do this event? Yes It’s important we make sure to do most events together as a team. It’s important to us and

Our coach to make sure we get these experiences together about national Girls and Women in Sports Day and celebrate just the growth of women’s sports and inspiring the next generation. What does it mean to you? Honestly, it’s amazing. I have a younger sister as well and it’s honestly awesome to

Watch the little kids grow and support us because we did the same when we were younger, and you guys have a ton of people that show up to your meets and watching the stands, you know how important is it to remember that there’s always eyes watching and to inspire the

Next generation? Honestly, it’s what keeps us going, knowing that we’re inspiring the next generation and knowing that there’s little ones coming up after us. So you’re not just your team, but just for Husker women’s athletics to come together like that. What does that mean to you guys as athletes that you can all

Support each other and do something like this? Honestly, it’s amazing watching everybody come together, especially us women. Um, we don’t get to do this very often, especially getting to be together. So it’s really awesome. It’s the way that Husker Nation supports and want to come to an event like

That, you know? What does that mean to you guys as athletes? That it’s every sport, every women’s sport that they get behind and want to support? Yes, the Husker fans will show out for anything. So honestly, it’s amazing to see how many people actually take their time

Out of their day to come out and see, especially us women knowing there’s not, um, all sports here, just the women’s sports. So it’s really cool to see how many people actually do come out. All right. You guys are coming off a big win. Uh, how much? Uh how good was that

For you guys to come together and win that one at Iowa? Honestly, it was amazing. We knew going in that we were fully prepared to for this meet and to beat Iowa, but actually going in it was a little nerve wracking. But we knew we had

It. So there’s a lot of talent, a lot of depth on this team, and it’s just kind of a process throughout a season. On how much do you feel like, you know, you guys are continuing to build, and how important is that throughout the course of a gymnastics season? Yes,

Honestly, just taking it day by day, making sure we’re all staying healthy inside and outside the gym. But really taking it day by day. One step at a time. All right, you guys are on the road this weekend, but back at home next weekend, February 17th. You know, we

Talk about a crowd and the support. What does that do for you guys. How does that feel? You guys at home. Yes. Feeling the energy and the at home arena of the Huskers is honestly amazing. It’s what really keeps us going. Like the energy of the Husker crowd is

Like nothing else. All right. Appreciate your time. Thank you . Uh, this women’s gymnastics team has shown some, some signs of being really impressive so far this season. And they got the big win at Iowa. They’re on the road this weekend, but then they’re back at home on the

17th. But they’ve been they’ve been fun to watch in Asia. Hall is a big part of that lineup there at Maryland tomorrow. And then Penn State comes here for the pink meat on Saturday the 17th at night, 7:00. And again, if you’ve not been to one, they are fantastic. So much fun to

Watch. Okay. You also caught up with somebody that represents soccer. Absolutely. So Sadie Waite, who she’s been on the program before, she’s so, so fantastic to talk to. But she was uh, great with the kids and participating in the station there for Nebraska soccer. But you know, also just the

Perspective on their season overall. So here’s my conversation with Sadie Waite here with Sadie Waite from Nebraska Women’s soccer. How cool is this to see you guys all coming together in the turnout and get to get to have an event like this on National Girls and Women in Sports Day.

It’s an amazing event. It’s so cool. Where does everyone walk through the doors? We got super excited. It’s awesome to see everyone come out and enjoy it How much fun are you having with the kids? Teaching them some soccer. What are you guys doing? What’s this station entail? So we’re actually doing

A little bit of dribbling here, a little bit of shooting. We actually have some pros. It seems like in a little juggling circle, but yeah, we’re just getting a little bit of it all over here. You know, when you talk about getting girls involved in sports and maybe

Seeing what they could be in the future, how important is an event like this? Oh, I was just saying to these guys like this is all I wanted to do when I was a little girl growing up and watching all these amazing athletes. So it’s really cool

That we can give a little taste of all the UNL sports. But yeah, it’s pretty cool. I think it’s just so neat the way that you guys every sports here except for softball. But we’ll let them slide. They’re traveling to compete, right. But just the way you guys come

Together for an event like that, what does that mean to you to be a part of something like this? Yeah. It’s such a strong community. The school, the university as a whole. But all the girls sports especially, it’s so cool. And everyone was supporting each other no matter how we’re

Doing. So it’s pretty amazing. You know, what is Nashville Girls and Women in Sports Day mean to you? Just seeing all the girls be out here. It just shows how much women’s sports are growing all over and just have a whole day to celebrate. It is it’s just awesome to see

Everything come together. What about your perspective of just the way that this community and everybody got behind to support your your team this year and Elite Eight appearance and how people were so behind you guys the entire ride. So beyond grateful. I know when I was talking to you before, it makes

All the difference. Having everybody come out and support you and I know when the volleyball girls were on their big run to the whole state was behind them. So awesome fan base, great support. You’ve had some time now, but how special was last season and what you guys were able to accomplish?

Yeah, amazing. I can’t even describe it. It was so cool to be a part of that. And to be on such a big run with an awesome team was, yeah, very cool. You know, you’re coming back just a sophomore. You’ll be a junior next year. There’s a lot of

Talent coming back to you. What did you guys learn and take away that maybe can fuel you guys here? As you head into January, before you get start getting ready for another season? Yeah, we’ve already talked about it in the spring of just how hard we work as a

Team and how kind of the culture of our team really separates us. So I think carrying that into next season will definitely be a big game changer. You know, it’s been it was cool to hear just like all the coaches talk about watching you guys. And but again, just

The success of an entire athletics department, how much does that fuel every sport? Just being able to support and feed off of what everybody’s doing? Oh yeah. And we’re so such a supportive little community here at the university. And like I was saying, and no matter kind of how we’re doing, everybody is

Cheering everybody on. So yeah very cool. Awesome. Well you got some future Husker soccer stars out here today. Yes we definitely do. Awesome. Appreciate your time. Thank you so much. Uh she’s great. Um, you know, again, just such a cool event. And the athletes are. Were so great. It’s one

Thing just to show up and sign autographs, but to interact and really, we got a couple texts about it during Amy’s show, too, of, um, you know, people that took their daughters out there and how much they enjoyed it. But, you know, the asking Sadie about some of the returners that were coming

Back, they hadn’t been to the NCAA tournament and won and went on a run like that. And so I think you lose Eleanor Dale. But they do have a lot of talent coming back that I think they can build off after having that experience going to the Elite Eight, they will have a

Couple of spring matches. They have not been announced yet, but they do have a couple of different spring matches that are coming up. So once those get announced, we’ll certainly pass those on to you as well. And that’s I mean, in the grand scheme of things like soccer,

How you doing that is big for the athletic director Cup. Right. Don’t they count for a lot of points. They do. Yeah. It really helped in the fall Nebraska obviously with volleyball in the national title game and soccer making the elite eight. It was a big thing for that. All right.

402413 2400 Huskers up 18 to nothing in the dual as the Huskers won the 165 double. Wilson now wrestling at 174 against the third ranked wrestler in the country. And it’s scoreless after one period, so we’ll keep an eye on the action out at the Devaney Center. We’re back with more

Dealer supplying the equipment and service to advance agriculture and much more. Acres solutions for every field. Greg Sharp, Jessica Cootie with you Friday night. Huskers just dropped their first match of the night out at the Devaney Center. Bubba Wilson beating in 174. Lenny Pinto about to take the mat out

There. So three matches to go. Huskers have already won the duel. They can’t be beat now in the duel, so it’s a huge win. I’m kind of with Jessica. I think it might be their most impressive performance of the year, and they’ve had some good ones so far. Art in Los Angeles

Wants us to explain the run rule in softball. Well, if somebody’s ahead by eight or more runs after the fifth inning, the game is called. And so that unfortunately happened in Nebraska last night. They trailed eight to nothing to Washington when Nebraska batted in the top of the fifth. So

That’s the run rule in softball. Seven inning games compared to the baseball’s nine. But they do have. The run rule in effect. And I think a couple of games in that tournament have been affected by the run rule. So that took care of that. Here’s a interesting tweet that just

Came out. Um, we’re not listening. We’re just watching the wrestling duel. But Terrance Knighton said, did these Big Ten commentators graduate from Michigan? So they must be oh, he every Michigan little bias in their coverage, huh. So he put it out there I don’t know the guy calling the

Matches actually used to work at Iowa. He now is at Virginia Tech. But BTN still uses him for some matches. I do not know the color analyst, so. But the guy I know, the play by play guy does not have a relationship. I’m sure I’ll have to go back and listen to

Spring football ticket update for a little over 40,000 tickets were sold this week to the spring game. I kind of thought we would get to 50 in week one. We didn’t quite make that. I think a lot of people, Jessica, kind of wait a few weeks out and they check the

Forecast. Yeah. Is it going to be a nice day? Then they’ll buy tickets and come rushing. Plus, once I think the team starts practice, that gets you thinking more about coming to the game. I think he’s right. Yeah, it’s hard to think, oh I got to get tickets right now

For a spring football game. It’s months away and it’s cold and we’re not. We got a couple pretty good basketball teams and started to think about it. Yeah, you’re just not thinking about that at this point in time. All right. Prop bets. We talked. We would mention a couple prop bets. Is Lenny

About ready to go? Well, it said four of the seven matches decided by one point. Wow That’s unbelievable. Yeah Uh, cryptos put a couple of the prop bets that are out there. Will a player propose to his girlfriend? There is a Kelsey Taylor Swift prop that out

There. Would he drop to a knee after the game? No, I think the money is that he won’t. But you can put a bet on that. How many times does Roger Goodell, the commissioner of the NFL, get shown on the screen that, well, the power go out. Remember the

Super Bowl? The power went out. Uh, so those are the kind of fun of off site bets. That you can make, uh, on the Super Bowl . What would you say about Roger Goodell showings? I’m surprised there’s not a Taylor Swift showings. If there’s many people, I’m sure there is. Oh,

I’m sure there probably is. Goodell twice now. He’ll be there for the trophy presentation. Does that count or is this I don’t know I’d have to look at the actual slide whether it just in game action or because he is there for the trophy presentation. And then there’s the national

Anthem. Right. How long it takes. Yep Um, is there something on the halftime show usually? Uh, link to that or we’ll say who will be the surprise? Because usually there’s a surprise performer that pops out with usher or whoever the Prime performer will be. So some of that gets

Thrown out there as well. You seem like, um, you’re a big usher fan. Like I like usher. Yeah I’m excited for the halftime. I think it would be a good show. That’s I think they’ve kind of realized there you got to get performers, right? Because he’s doing the national anthem. I don’t even

Know Camden. Do you know? I think it’s a country singer. You’ll be able to find it. It’s announced, but I think it’s a country singer. Uh, for that. But it’s Reba. Reba McIntyre. Okay. Oh, wow. Oh, yeah. Sam and Omaha’s color of Gatorade that gets dumped on the winning

Coach. Yeah, that. That’s a yell that you’re going yellow. Yeah, could be blue. Could be red. Could be. Yeah. Yellow No orange. There’s a bunch of different flavors. Have you ever drank the Gatorade that’s got the salt in it? Don’t like it? Not a big fan. I actually accidentally grabbed one of

Those one time. They usually have them by the bus when we’re getting on after football games . Yeah, make sure you don’t grab the mark ones. Yeah, that would be. It’d be a good idea. So those are the fun prop bets are pretty interesting to go

Do. And I would love to be in Vegas. Not I. Yeah obviously let it be at the game. I’m Those tickets are way out of my price range. But just to be in a sports book I think it would be really fun. So okay, you obviously you’re. Your hearts

With the Chiefs. Do you think they actually win it like I think they do. Yeah. Yeah What what has to happen. Well they have the better quarterback and I think that they’re playing better than the Niners. The Niners did not look really good against the Packers or the

Lions. They had to come from behind to win both those games. The Chiefs have had to win a Buffalo in Baltimore. I think they had a tougher path. I think they’re more well rounded. I think the Chiefs win. I saw a hilarious tweet the other day that said something about that. Um, you

Know, Jordan Spieth and Brock Purdy. We just keep telling we just keep saying they’re not very good. But yet all they do is keep winning. And that’s fair. Brock’s done a great job in their, uh, we should do we should make our own prop bet of how many times they show the

Purdy’s because they’ve been on a few times. And usually Chubb is kind of right behind Mom and dad. Yeah. Going crazy right there. How about his path after leaving Nebraska? He committed to San Jose State. And then that head coach took the Arizona. Job. So then he said

Wait a minute I came to play for him. Now he’s going to Nevada. Wild, crazy. I wish him well, I do too. You know, he’s such a he’s a great kid and but that’s where this craziness of opening back the portal back up when a coach leaves right. Who

Knows? Okay, so say UCLA hires another head. Coach. Then those dominoes just continue to fall, right? And it’s just I don’t I don’t think it’s good. Good for anybody that that’s how it is right now at this point I understand the logic of it, but I just I think it needs to

Needs to be tweaked a little bit. And I think all coaches in the country would agree with you. Just gets a little out of hand. All right. We’ve got winners and losers to dive into in the next segment. Woodhouse auto family. They are your trusted auto partner. 20 brands, 20 convenient sales and

Inside our Huskers Radio network broadcast center sponsored by Acres, the Midwest premiere John Deere dealer supplying the equipment and service to advance agriculture and much more. Acres solutions for every field. Lenny Pinto dominating at 184 for the Huskers. He’s up ten three. About to go to the

Third period at the Devaney Center. Oh I love this time of the show. The Winners and Losers segment. You want to lead us off? Sure. Okay so my winner of the week, we’ve talked about it a lot, but I just, you know, I just think it deserves all the praises. The

National Girls of Women in Sports Day event that was held here. And you know, all the women’s sports coming together. How great. Just seeing firsthand how great the student athletes were working with the kids. And it’s just so important to allow those kinds of opportunities because you never know what you might

Inspire or in that one event and kind of, again, just being those role models for these young girls. And it’s just there’s no better time than, than what we are in the present to be involved in women’s sports and to be women student athletes. But, you know, we

Continue to grow. So it’s just, you know, just continuing to do everything that we can to make things even better for the next generation. So I just I can’t say enough about the way that my Felder helped plan it. And then the student athletes that were all there on a, on a

Night, midweek night. Yeah. After teams that had played travel back like women’s basketball, women’s golf were all there and they both were traveling back and some teams were getting ready to go travel again. And just the way that they all showed up and showed out, it was. And the football

Team had some. Oh yeah. Yes. And bothering you. Yeah. They were they were helping sign people in. So Johnson and Johnson, um, they want to start a podcast. I actually offered them the headset and they wanted to. That’s not bad, Johnson. That’s kind of a cool sounding name for a podcast.

Yeah, right. So I told him I was like, well, we’ll see what we can do. So, uh, Emmett and Vermeer, they’re they’re great guys. But it was cool. They were great. They were interacting with the, you know, the fans coming in and they were awesome. There’s a number

Of the sack man was there. Um, James Williams. So there’s a lot of those guys that were out there helping and they were doing such a great job. It was just again, it was just showing the camaraderie of the Husker athletics department. It’s just it’s really there’s nothing

Like it for sure. Cool Um. My loser. I’ve got to. And she is one of the queens, but it’s got to go to Sheryl Swoopes. Yes She’s caused quite the uproar in in her take her very incorrect take on Caitlin Clark . And I know that we are not

Huge fans of Caitlin Clark around here in Nebraska, but she was just basically saying that Caitlin Clark’s record, if she breaks Kelsey Plum’s record, well, I guess not. If but when. It’s not legitimate because this is Caitlin’s Covid year, which she’s a true senior year. And so, again, it just

Stirring up just a huge controversy, but not giving credit to where credit is due. And Caitlin is going to smash it in like ten games before Kelsey there, there seemed like a little bitterness there, didn’t you take take that from that interview that she was bitter. That’s what a lot of

People kind of took away from it. And I think they did eventually circle back. But it’s just, you know, if you’re going to have a take on that, you should make sure that, you know, a strong take like that were Caitlin Clark, I, I’m sorry, but she’s the hottest

Name, not just in women’s college basketball, but you could argue in college basketball. No doubt she is. So if you’re going to have a take a hot take on someone like Caitlin Clark, you better make sure you have your facts straight. And so and I love Sheryl Swoopes. You know, she

Was one of those people for me. You look up and what she did for women’s basketball was huge. But that take this week was certainly where worthy of my weekly loser. Yeah. Okay Camden. All right. Um, for my winner. Um, I have CBS because they’re going to have over 100

Million people watching the Super Bowl. And they’re able to charge $7 million for a 32nd ad. Is that what it’s going for? Seven mil for 30? Yeah Wow, wow. And I did see you like two weeks ago. They’re sold out. So they’ve got a lot of business. Do we have some

Front runners for the best commercial? Well, usually it’s Doritos is Doritos is usually pretty good Pepsi. And I hear the Clydesdales are back for Budweiser. Oh I love that. They needed to bring them back. Yeah, yeah. Good. All right, that’s your winner. How about your loser? Um, I have former

Mets GM Billy Eppler. Eppler was suspended through the 2024 World Series by Commissioner Manfred after he directed the team to fabricate injuries to open roster spots. Wow. Wow. Okay bury those Mets right? For sure. That’s all right. To do that all right, my winner. I am going remember Damar Hamlin,

The young man that got hurt in the Buffalo Bills game a year or so ago? He and the bills and his his foundation chasing EMS along with the NFL and the American Heart Association, announced this week in Las Vegas that they are donating $100,000 to go purchase automatic external

Defibrillators, AEDs to put in high schools in the state of Nevada. That’s where the Nevada obviously hosting the Super Bowl this year, that will affect 47 schools are going to get these AEDs to put in there. What a great way to use his near tragic deal for a really

Good cause. And talk about saving lives. And hopefully you never have to use them. But if you do, if there is an instance where you do it, really does it, it it saves lives. Those matter. Seconds matter. Those minutes matter. And so that that is great. Especially because we’ve seen that we’ve

Seen those instances where unfortunate people have lost their lives because they couldn’t get to those that equipment fast enough. And so yeah, that’s I love that. That’s a great winner. Great deal. My loser. You’ll get a kick out of this because you’ve been to the Waste Management golf tournament before. Lucas

Glover, former US open champion , won a couple times last year on the PGA tour. Missed his tee time. He misread the text about what time he was to tee off. Got there too late. They kick you out, you’re gone. They don’t. They don’t give you. Okay, go join that group.

You’re done. Wow. He didn’t even get to play, so he missed out. How about that? I wonder if he was kind of partying too hard at the 16th hole. Maybe he. Maybe he did. Um, some other nominees from the chat. Rex Burkhead announcement of his retirement this week.

That’s a good one. And people want your mom because she’s joined the chat room. I know we’ll have to get her a login so she can come back and join him again. Also some the people that are salty about Dillon and the hole with Kirk Herbstreit and Paul Finebaum, that was my
