Let’s do an outright winner let’s do a this is definitely kind of a long shot for an outright winner uh who did you pick and how did you discover how did you discover this guy is an interesting one deim Matsuyama takes the crown as another outright winner that we did not
Expect to see coming but this week we’ve got the Mexico open plenty of betting opportunities welcome to tea time I am Andy Lang from wagertalk.com being joined as always by Nick Borman from from wagertalk.com it is a very strange field and event that we have it’s always
Been a pretty weak field uh it’s always been the John ROM and Tony fow show now it’s just the Tony fow show and there’s just a lot of guys that most people probably don’t really know that well so Nick and I are here to break it down
We’re going to give you some DraftKings Darlings outright winner going to give you a finishing position and we’ll go over a couple names of players that can trip you up we’re going to get into everything but real quick Nick um what’s the mindset going into a tournament like
This from a betting perspective a lot of guys that we probably don’t know a whole lot about in terms of like just you look at their stats and does it really indicative of how they’re going to perform this week with such a weak weak field so what’s the mindset when we go
Into a tournament like this I think it’s for me anyway it’s uh whatever you’re using in the past you probably don’t weigh on it as much because you know every every other week we’re looking at guys that are like hey they’ve been you know 10 top 10 out of
Their last 12 starts or you know active stats that look like they’re doing very very well well if you look at the field this week aside from Tony feno and his aren’t even that strong to be honest you’re not going to see that consistency from this field because these are the
Guys that generally are the ones struggling to make the cuts and stuff like that so I take a lot of those statistics um over you know the the smaller or shorter sample sizes and kind of throw them out the window because as already is proven this year anybody
Could win but it doesn’t really matter here you’re not going to find guys that have really really strong assistance you’ll see guys that might have two or three top 25 finishes over the last 10 starts right but usually would dis we would discount those in a strong field
But in this field you can’t so my mindset is potential what’s a guy what has has this person shown that they can do are they doing it every week almost nobody in the field is gonna is going to be yes to that question but do they have
The ability to do it and if they do then I’m going to start to look at them and go you know what I don’t care that they have them in last week they missed the cut who cares two weeks ago they missed the cut who cares three weeks ago they
Finished top 10 all right this person can play this person can show up we have a limited course history so you can’t go back and say oh well they’ve played you know very well at this tournament over the years but my mindset is I’m looking for bigger numbers this week I’m looking
For guys that have potential not necessarily consistency because you’re not going to find it but basically don’t rule anyone out this week is really the best mindset to go into well let’s just get into the course it is a absolutely beautiful course uh it’s it’s there’s a lot of different
Things about it one of it is it’s it’s it’s hard to get to there’s just like basically one you know kind of golf cart Bridge uh and you’ll notice no homes you know around it this is not like a resort where there’s a big massive hotel or you
Know Resort next to it um it’s it’s kind of a little bit out in the middle of nowhere um there’s a lot of water uh is going to be in play on a lot of holes but really this is a bombers Paradise this is wide open Fairways they’ve got
Long par fives they’ve got long par fours it’s a little weird because they have five par 3es so the the the penalty for missing the Fairway is not that big so look for these guys to just swing I mean just let loose I think that’s why
You see guys like Cameron Champ who know who have terrible course history at almost everywhere else but just love playing here because you swing really really hard and even if the ball misses the Fairway a little bit there’s really not that much of a penalty so just avoid
The water um and it’s flat that’s the other thing it’s just not a lot of Contour to this course you’re not going to see a lot of downhill and uphills um the the greens are for the most part fairly flat so when I look at this
Course Nick it’s bomb the ball and just try and get good proximity to the hole so you can you know make a putt and I know that sounds like it is that you know that it is that way every single week but when you’ve got 600 plus yard
Par fivs and you’ve got several par fours that are over 500 yards the difference between these bombers that can hit it 330 340 yards and the guys that can only hit it 300 310 yards on this course it’s a big big difference so I think that’s why you’ve seen guys like
Uh you know PHA and Cameron Champ and some of these guys have success so uh whoever hits the ball long off the tea and whoever gets a hot putter is going to be is going to have a lot of success this week so I’m looking at uh distance off the tea I’m also
Looking at putting Strokes any takeaways that you have when we look at this course in this field well what I always like to do is take a look at the the tournament over the years and see the trends that the winners tend to prove true uh last week
We previewed four trends hii matama nailed all was in all four of them and of course comes comes from behind the win this year we only have two years of history and yeah Tony fow John ROM what do they have in common uh well first of all they were the betting favorites Rah
Was first both years and F was second last year so so much for looking at the long shots uh in this tournament history but yeah they clearly are the best players in the field but yes they are bombers uh one thing I’ll mention about fena you actually you actually brought
This up you said proximity to the hole oddly enough this course the last two years has ranked as the hardest and second hardest course on the PGA tour in terms of proximity to the hole meaning the average proximity on the approach shots was the furthest from the hole of
Any course on the PGA tour now the reason for that while you do see some low scores here and it’s mainly because you can’t get in the trouble off the te a lot of the second shots are from 175 yards and over uh and that’s that favors
Those long iron iron players but it also makes point of you know you’re not going to hit a lot of these really close you’re not hitting wedges or short irons in there you’re hitting a lot of long irons and maybe even for some guys you’re get into the hybrid or Fairway
Wood range so I’ll add you know maybe take a look at guys that have excelled in that statistic if you look at I’ll name a couple names Taylor pendrith he ranked sixth last season Andy from 175 to 200 yards a hoard who ranks second this season in that category and then of
Course there’s Tony Fen now from 200 to 225 yards he ranks number one last year and number four this year so yeah never mind maybe that doesn’t prove us anything on the long shots because he’s that’s clearly why he’s excelling at this at this venue but no I agree with
You it’s it’s length up the te is going to get you the shorter shot in most players are goingon to be hitting longer iron so any less Club you have is going to be a benefit uh but F now has proven that he’s one of the best long iron
Players out there uh so I don’t see you know a lot of a lot of chance that you know fow doesn’t play well this week just because it’s a weak downfield but he’s hard to bet you know at the price that he is to win this tournament Tony fow under 10 to
One I just I just can’t bet it myself but shot link is used this week Andy so that’s good we’ll have shot Strokes gain data all week long and maybe the best strategy on F now if you guys are interested in playing him is wait after
Round one or live bet him at some point if he’s not doing very well maybe you can get a better number on the guy yeah when you have a course where proximity the hold is hard if there’s only three or four guys that are hitting it close to the hole they’re going to
Pull away from the field cuz the harder the proximity of the hole is means the more guys are going to struggle so you get three or four guys that are you know playing well in that area of the game it’s just going to extend the leaders
And you’re going to see those guys pull ahead with the really low scores and the rest of the Field’s just going to struggle to keep up so let’s take a look at the total Strokes gain chart Nick you do a great job of this every single week
Some surprising names uh these are names that are not going to pop up normally every week on the total stroke game but we got to take a look at these guys and you know we got to take him serious because some of these guys are going to
End up on the leaderboard and you can get some really nice prices so walk us through some of these names and some of them that jump out to you yeah well this what has become an utterly useless graphic to start the 2024 season as we have no winners from
This graphic so far again I will point to the long-term results you can see it up at the top Now 50 of 94 of the last 94 tournaments so since it started 2022 over over half of the tour winners have been ranked in this top 10 so it is
Still a place I always like to start and I uh I write we write an article each week Andy preview in the tournament and the opening line of my article this week is uh if you’re not if you’re a casual golf fan the the one name you might
Recognize is right there at the very top aside from that you’re probably not going to recognize a lot of these names and these are not the names you’re used to seeing by any means in this top 10 graphic it’s funny last week’s graphic you know Sky sheffler led the way at
Like 2. eight and I think the 10th person was at like higher than Tony feno 1.5 or six so it shows you how much what level down these guys are over the last 12 months but you can see the list of course Tony fow the odds favorite is
Right there on the top po guard’s been playing very very well he’s next on the list uh Ryan Fox recent winner over in the DP World Tour uh a lot of guys that that’s where you’re going to find some if you’re paying attention to golf and
You’re watching the DP World Tour a guy like Thor Bjorn Olsen is is just got his tour card but he’s been playing very very well so don’t sleep on him Jake nap I put him as a notable he’s down at the very very bottom uh he just got a steart
Card as well corn fairy tour guy guy that has potential as I mentioned when you asked me that question earlier I’m looking for guys that have potential not necessarily past history uh but there’s your list uh the The Columns that you see I always like to mention this is 12
Months that’s how they’re ranked and sorted that I put in the last six months and the last three months because you just you’re looking you’re trying to avoid the trend like a JJ spawn has here where all right over the last 12 months he ranks number 10 but over the last
Three months he’s losing stroke so clearly in the short term he’s not playing very well um and then I mentioned Olen he’s actually number one in the field in the short term over the last three months so these are the names uh that rank in the top 10 Andy this
Week and I don’t know if we’ll hit the graphic this week and that just means I I swore like the the big strong fields that we were going to hit it so now that I’m saying it probably won’t be this week this probably will be the week absolutely absolutely uh guys if you’re
Enjoying the content please hit the like button and leave us a comment tell us who you like this week if ever there was a week to post a comment on your best long shot this is the week because it’s basically a field of long shot so leave
Us a comment tell us what you like for this week and also hit the bell and that way you get notified when all of our videos from wager talk.com are coming up this includes golf as well as daily breakdown videos NBA college basketball everything you need to build those Bank
Roles and make it a profitable week every week Nick I do players that can trip You Up Normally I have three but I’m only going to go with two this week as um so this segment it’s guys and I don’t want to just pick random guys and
Say I don’t think this guy’s going to play good and it’s a guy that’s missed the cut for the last four weeks these are players that I think are going to jump off the page for everybody to want to bet on and I’m just throwing a warning that just be careful this player
Can trip you up first I will start with Cameron Champ who is I mean if ever there was a a horse for the course it is Cameron champen this week he’s finished Sixth and eighth the last two years and Nick he has yet to make the cut in
2024 so if this is the ultimate do you believe in current form or do you believe in course history I like current form a lot more I know people are going to be focused on him his approach and putting numbers are just truly awful he is minus
2.09 Strokes gained approach in 2024 and minus 0.71 Strokes gain putting H listen I know why he succeeds here because he can hit the ball a mile off the te and normally that’s a big penalty because he doesn’t know where the ball’s going to
Land most of the time off the te but I you know is that going to equal success when he can’t hit approaches close and his putting is really bad I don’t know I know trying to find golfers to bet on this week is really hard I think everyone’s going to think oh Cameron
Champ I’ll use him I’ll use him in one and guns uh because when am I ever going to use him again I just cannot put my hard- earned money on a guy that is this bad on approaches this bad up huting and has yet to even make the cut in 2024 so
Cameron Champ I know will be a popular pick this week I would say be a little bit worried and then I know this is kind of a little bit easy but man Tony feno just worries me I know he loves this place finished one and two the last two
Years Nick his putting in 2024 is minus Z .70 that’s basically the same as Cameron Champ he’s six to one to win on DraftKings he has to finish top two uh to return value he has one finish better than 19th this year and if he putts like
This he’s not going to finish first or second again he’s gonna have to putt way better than he normally does I know he’s got those approaches from long distance which should help I know you know on paper he’s the best golfer in the field but
Such a short price I can’t invest in him um at top 10 he’s around even money and that includes the websites that pay out on Dead Heat rules so even if he ties you end up losing money so you have to pay such such a stiff price and this is
Nick this is the year of the underdog these are these guys coming out of nowhere to win outrights these favorites are not winning so I can’t invest in a big favorite in Tony F Fen out this week so Cameron Champ Tony F out those are my two players that can trip you up
We like to talk about finishing uh actually Let’s do an outright winner let’s do a this is definitely kind of a long shot for an outright winner uh who did you pick and how did you discover how did you discover this guy is an interesting one yeah uh I’m circling in on Michael
Kim this week and for those uh on X formally Twitter uh he is the best golf follow on Twitter I mean he he he posts you know pretty much daily on just what it’s like to be a PJ T player and things he’s working on a swing what like the
Travel around all the grinds that most players will go through not the elite but guys of his caliber he’s great so if you don’t follow on Twitter do so but I think he’s got a real shot to win this week Andy and and hear me out again what
Did I say in the beginning of the show it’s it’s about potential right you’re not going to find crazy statistics that jump off the page here but he arrives in pretty good form especially compared to this field he’s got four top 25 finishes in his last eight starts he did finish
As high as TI for six last month at the American Express his irons is what I like this week they’ve been solid he’s gained Strokes on approach in six straight measured events I say that because there was two events that he played in that weren’t measured so I
Guess I technically don’t know uh how he did with his irons those particular weeks but six straight measured events he also ranks sixth in this field and strokes gained approach over the last six months and again months excuse me and again we mentioned that’s important because this course has proven to be
Very difficult when it comes to proximity to the hole with nobody hitting it close here on average at least last few years that’s the case that also I believe puts a pre premium on putting and Kim is solid in that area as well Andy and I know you love looking
At putting statistics he ranks 13th in the field and strokes gain putting over the last six months so there isn’t much course history to look at obviously but he did play here last year he finished a respectable tie for 30th uh on the heels of both a strong short game and a hot
Putter so if he can add his irons this year which he is doing well right now and continue that Putter and maybe that short game that’s a recipe for success and I think it’s going to keep him in the mix uh again when you’re looking at these type
Of numbers I’m just looking for somebody that’s going to be in the mix on Sunday uh because we like those Sunday sweats but Michael Kim 60 to1 I think is actually pretty good uh long shot for us to to play this week love it yeah he is great uh just a
Great social media follow and yeah he’s he’s had some real good value on him you could have snagged some good prices on some head-to-head matchups and some props on him so Michael Kim is our outright winner I’m going to take a look at some Draft Kings Darlings Nick it’s a field
Of DraftKings Darlings it is it is I could just say anybody is a draftking starling in this one yeah so what we’re looking to do here is pick three players that are pretty low priced guys and we want to really just try and get them through to the weekend if they
Have a little bit of upside and uh play a little bit better than usual that’s an added bonus but really with these low price guys we’re just trying to get weekend points from them I will start with just low at 6,100 he has made the
Cut in all four of PGA events that he has played this year uh and he’s done it in better Fields than this one so you know if he’s doing it at tougher courses and tougher Fields I like him here the lack of distance off the tea is a little
Bit concerning but at this price I’m willing to roll the dice and just say you know at 6100 he’s probably not going to drive the ball long enough to put him in position to finish in the top 10 but I don’t need him to finish in the top 10
Just need to get through to the weekend so just lower at 6100 my first DraftKings darling up next Carson young uh he finished 15th here last year love that and he’s made the cut in three straight tournaments that’s good enough for me at 7,400 I love the 15th Place
Finish even he even if he’s just a tad worse than that at 7,400 if I get a top 25 finish from him uh this week I will be very very happy with that and then Alejandro I think tosy at 7,800 toasty or tosy at 7,800 so I apologize for uh
Butchering that one uh he’s made the cut in two out of three tournaments on tour this year and he loves this place he’s finished ninth and 10th in both times playing this tournament um if he can get remotely close even remotely close to the 10th Place finish like he did last
Year this is going to be a steal at 7800 so those are my DraftKings Darlings if you go to my profile page Andy Lang at wagertalk.com I’ve got a free dig digital download article that has my complete DraftKings lined up in there it’s got betting notes as well as the
Course and field breakdown as well so if you want to take advantage of that just a free download at wagertalk.com that is also where all of my plays can be found we only had one official play that uh got cashed last week one of them got
Voided I’ll sa that story for the end uh but we’re having a really really good golf year very low volume seven and three though uh coming off a two straight profitable week in a row so golf plays have been very good I’ve never had a losing season in golf at
Wager talk and we’re off and running in 20124 7 and three so far um and you’ll also get all plays if I have a crossport parlay which is a golf with uh you know another sport like UFC or soccer anything like that take advantage of that at uh wagertalk.com Andy LS profile
Page uh Nick why don’t you go ahead and tell everyone what you have up where we can find you at and then let’s get into a finishing position at a really nice price sure we got MLS season kicking off Wednesday night inter Miami Lion Messi
Of course on the field so still have our promo for the season uh you can grab the entire season right now for 179 we’re all of golf and MLS combined for 349 so we got a lot of golf left all the way through September and the MLS will go
Through December so a lot of action there and this week uh just some individual soccer plays going on we got champions league on Tuesday and Wednesday and Europa on Thursday plus the domestic leagues still in action as well so all those are available on my page at wagertalk.com uh Andy
Leaderboard bet I am looking at this week another name you your list that you just threw out there talk about guys you will have no idea who they are if you’re not somewhat of a golf follower uh I’m gonna throw another name out there Jake naap uh this one even for the golf
Followers is going to be a hard one to to to know because this is his first go route on the PGA tour he’s played on the corn fairy tour for several years uh and also on the Canadian tour so he’s been around professional golf but never here
On the big stage until this year again much of this suggestion suggestion is based on hype and potential he’s he’s got four starts so far on his PJ tour career he logged an impressive tie for third at Tory Pines in the Farmers Insurance open uh he also finished a
Respectable tie for 28th at the Waste Management Phoenix Open just two weeks ago he was one of the best on the corn fairy tour last year year over his final 11 starts he finished TI for 21st or better nine times out of 11 including six top 10s his skill set pretty simple
Bombs away the guy can simply smash it but while it’s obviously a short sample size on tour this year he actually is gaining Strokes in all four categories so far so he is well-rounded uh probably not ready to win just yet but I think as
He has done a little bit already I think he can make a run and at at least contend and who knows maybe maybe he’ll make a run to the outright but I think he can stay within that first or second page of the leaderboard so two to one on
Nap this week to finish top 20 I think is a is Great Value love it there uh great work and uh we listen Nick and I I we we probably both say golf is our number one favorite sport to hati cap it’s you know one of the sports that that brought us here
It’s kind of where we both started uh started our our professional gambling career Nick when MLS season starts is like me when Formula 1 season starts it’s just it it’s just so much fun and you’re so excited and I love hearing you talk about MLS because I can just see the
Twinkle in your eye and I can see how excited you are so absolutely take advantage of Nick borman’s MLS the the track record speaks for itself so uh I’m happy for you and excited for you for another great season at MLS yeah yeah absolutely um uh you want to talk a
Little uh Tiger Woods here uh before we wrap up here um we pretty much nailed it on on the show last week not to two to our own horns but but every single thing every single thing we said uh you know came to fruition what was your Takeaway
On Tiger’s performance you know I mean as as expected of course the first round that one round he completed you know he he he still got it in him right he showed flashes of Brilliance making several birdies throughout that round I think he had five uh in that first round
But the rust is there obviously he’s not g to be as crisp the things that he normally excelled at back in his day was as iron play and he was missing a lot of irons uh Missing greens and then unable to get up and down so nothing unexpected there obviously disappointment that he
Had a withdraw with back spasms and that’s a concern going forward I guess the positive take away is that you know it was some competitive golf reps right you can say looking back in the last few years where Augusta always seemed to be the first place he would Tee It Up that
At least we’re getting a little bit of golf in before that he’s expected to play I think it’s Bay Hill uh next so he’s got time to heal up and hopefully he can get some more competitive reps in but great to see him on the course you
Can see the fire is still in his eyes I hope he can make it through four rounds I mean at that point at this point that’s the the goal um but you know it’s going to be hard to to you can make money on the guy because as this ter
Approved there’s always going to be props on him um it’s just a matter of trying to get a gauge on how his form is but you’re right we nailed it pretty well and uh as a fan of his sad to see he wasn’t able to finish the tournament
I’m glad that we were able to cash a couple bets along the way I had round two tiger to shoot over 70 and a half and I was well on your well on my way to cashing that bet and the withdraw goes down as a void I am
Going to remember that one for a while not getting paid on round to Tiger over 70 half is a really really tough one uh just to swallow um but did cash a play I I got to tell you um the one play that I did have left that was a pretty easy
Cash was Gary Woodland versus Dunlap um Dunlap man do you know that guy do you know that guy has made one cut on the PJ tour and he won the tournament that is that is wild yeah that is feast or famine um but I got to tell you I watched a lot of
Gary Woodland he’s getting there Gary Woodland is a guy that I have he’s a guy that I have circled as he could be a nice head-to-head uh player coming up because obviously he was really bad to start the season coming off a brain surgery obviously but I noticed that a
Couple times on his missed Cuts he was just on the other side of missing the cut and at the Phoenix Open he had the horrible tea times where he had to play in the really really bad weather and so I think when you’re looking at Gary Woodland’s finish is you’re like oh miss
Cut Miss cut Miss cut he’s he’s not there uh it was a good cash on a guy that was a little bit undervalued Dunlap didn’t didn’t miss the cut so I’m gonna keep a close eye on Gary Woodland because I think they’re GNA put keep putting him up against guys that are not
Nearly as good as him and that was a tough four rounds to play he made it through wasn’t a great finish but made the cut in a stacked field so I will just throw that out there that I’m really hoping they keep giving us good head-to-head matchups with Gary Woodland
He keeps looking better and better and better each week so he’s the US Open winner Andy come on he’s got I know I know I know led the field in putting that week despite going into it outside of the top 100 one of the more amazing
Performances at a uh at a at a major but uh oh well well that’s going to do it for us guys uh Mexico open be real careful with your bank roles this is a tough tournament just remember you only need a couple bets to turn a profit if
You go one and0 that’s better than two and one uh depending on the juice so if you uh uh would like if you’re interested in our place go check out myself or Nick we are at wagertalk.com Nick is coming off an unbelievable season with a ton of outright winners uh
I’m off to a really nice start uh with two winning golf weekends in a row seven and three on Best Bets go and hit the like button leave us comment tell you uh tell us who you like good luck in our place we will see everyone next week on tea time
