From undrafted to Super Bowl Champ to NFL head coach, Antonio Pierce is the new face of the legendary Raiders and he’s bringing his own flair and style to coaching. From his mother’s impact to his influence as a player and now in a new leadership role ready for his biggest challenge yet.

While in Vegas for Super Bowl, Ryan, Channing and Fred sit with their good friend and newly hired NFL head coach and the man rebranding Vegas’ biggest attraction- the Raiders.

When Antonio Pierce received the late October night call from Mark Davis, it took him three different times to answer. At the time, The Raiders seemed to be falling apart, on a slippery streak, dropping games and losing the locker room which spurred some massive changes within the organization.

Parlaying his locker room leadership and unique life experiences, Pierce was able to reunite the players, the team and everyone in the building focusing on a common goal of winning together and unity, which landed him the interim head coach in a surprise move.

The inner-city only child had always leaned on one person, his mother who passed a few months earlier before he became into his next challenge…Pierce shares a personal moment with the guys that while while he waited for the official news of his hire, he took a moment of quietness outside reflecting on his life and how far he’s come and ended up looking up on the sky seeing two shooting stars, reminding him of his mother and minutes later found out that he was being named Head Coach.

Immediately the vibe changed in Vegas, and the Raiders seemed to start straightening out their previous issues. Josh Jacobs was getting positive yards, Davante Adams was making 50-50 catches and Maxx Crosby sparked a new fire amongst his teammates from attacking QBs with more fuel to smoking cigars celebrating a new energy for the black and silver.

Although the off season has been filled with a lot of changes, trying to find the right people for coordinators, find a quarterback to build around and make sure everyone is in step from the janitors to the cafeteria workers to the coaches to the players…being accountable and responsive to the plan forward. Pierce lets us in on his motivation, what keeps him grounded and how he is able to be a friend to his players but an enforcer when it’s time.

The blueprint is laid out, Pierce is committed to getting the Raiders back to a Super Bowl and already have won a Lombardi trophy as a player is now looking to be a world champion as a coach too.

Boy rolling new regime let’s go ahead and get started and when I walked in that building day one like everybody else which I would expect I checked my ego at the door my past didn’t matter I wanted to learn people I wanted to get to know

People I wanted people to get to know me I wanted to feel the building right so you walk in to be honest the first person I’ve run into max Crosby what up AP and Boom full en like whoa what is this I’ve never felt so

Much energy in my life from a player out the gate in offseason in February I’m like what are you doing here at 6:00 a.m. oh me I work out every day that’s where this is routine damn that’s different watch the dude Bounce Around watch his routine go over there to cafeteria you introduce

Yourself you go throughout the building and as time goes on you really integrate yourself amongst the whole team players staff front office held to janitor you know what I mean just kind of get to know everybody like what do you do what’s going on with you what’s up with your life just general

Conversation and then you know as a former player when things come up during the season don’t matter what side of ball you on guys go to who they’re comfortable with talking to who could I open up with hey Fred T man what’s going on with you

Man you good like hey I got this issue going on with know back home we had those conversations then let’s fast forward to 2023 we’re in West Virginia by the play the bills it’s me Jason Simmons Devonte Adams having a conversation on the sideline it’s a damn mistake I don’t

Know why I asked so Tay looked at me he said do you think any of these coaches can whoop your ass I said what like like what are we talking about like we about to play the bill like what like you mean like fighting he’s like yeah like you know do they

with you like not on that level like no I don’t think they’ll even try it you know what I mean and T said I mean I was looking at you from afar just wondering like if they yelled and talked to Devon to AP like that what would he

Do I said well they they wouldn’t do it you know what I mean I’m like it’s a respect Factor cuz I don’t do that to anybody else I don’t disrespect talk down on anybody I was weak too fast forward we playing the Bears we’re about to play

The Bears and um we just won a game the week prior and we’re going to the game it’s like man we got to win this game this would be a great opportunity for us to propel ourselves get three wins in a row and we’re going up against a backup

Quarterback old lons banged up second stream running backs in and we get our ass kicked I’m like oh my God it was like one of those ass kicks you like oh this this is not good Fellas like you know what I mean like we’re not supposed

To lose this game like this to this team like right they were on the bricks of going One Direction after the game in I’m I’m I did on my normal deal got out of the locker room I’m by the buses and and we kind of had like a little group set like

This and guys are just talking like man this I’m not doing this no more I ain’t getting down with how we how we coach how we talk to players how we interact with one another I’m like damn okay so I’m you know I’m trying to put the fire

Out like no man look we good team we got to stick together and guys like no man this I’m not having fun I won’t play ball no more now I’m talking about some of our star players fast forward to October 26 me and Josh McDaniels have a

Meeting around 6:30 to 7:30 in the morning and he’s telling me that you need to have a team meeting with the team and he’s like man we need to we need to air this bad boy out and see what’s going on CU we playing Detroit Lions on Monday Night

Football he says he I’m I’m going talk about accountability yeah that’s good yeah that’s we need we need accountability and trust and I want the players to do the same I said oo that ain’t about to happen I said this that it ain’t going down like that he’s like

No what you mean he said I said no CU they’re in a bad place right now so we talked about it further and he he said no you know what I’m going to go in there a couple other guys I know got some stuff to say we going to hash

Everything out man we walked in a room he did exactly what he started off doing and then that blew up boom I said oh my God and I’ve never heard players talk about coaches like that about each other like that so direct so bluntly

Honest it was it was so neat it was so much buildup amongst the players that they just had to release it so Josh had asked what I speak on behalf of both the coaches and I said probably as a former player because I I said I

Feel what’s going on so I got there and I kind of just you know did my spill man I just was talking in front of the team and I could see everybody was like this I said oh I got the eyes Okay so I kind of went in out hey

Man that’s what you doing you can’t play like that you gotta play harder for T like what we doing that’s not how we get down coaches we got to call it we we work this all week during practice then we get in the game

We don’t want to call it we got to call that call it man don’t be afraid that’s why we rep it you get paid to make those plays shann RC you get you get paid to make that check that’s your job because our jobs as coaches to put

You in position to make those plays right so we have one of those real heart to hearts and then boom we in man fast forward four days later boom we get our ass kicked again God damn 14:30 National TV God and then you can see it coming man

And around 4:00 that day I’m actually I’m sitting working on some stuff getting ready for the next week the Giants and I get a call from Mark Davis well it says Davis Mark sh I’m like that’s a telemarker put the phone down I don’t know who this is

Well you know the name not saved Apple just give you the name just pop up with all cap I’m like I don’t know a Davis Mark I think it’s a bank boom hit me again click then the next one come through and it’s from Sandra but that one I kind of like

I saw the it was so many names you know Sandra Morgan Doug okay cool I know what this is hey a can you come upstairs God damn I shouldn’t have said nothing in that meeting they going fire me I a even call a place and we go upstairs and Mark you

Know says he’s going to make a change and he’s like you know I’ve heard from people in the building outside the building that you can you can get out you can get us out of this mess and I’m going to name you the interim head coach

So I went up there thinking one thing about to get fired didn’t hit me with this I said boom all right here we go what’s up and we really go into a hour hour and a half conversation about myself my background how I got here who

I am what I believe in how I see football being played you know what I mean and at the end he’s like yeah I feel good about this so what we doing he like I’ll let you know in the little bit don’t say nothing I got to go back downstairs

Okay so I sit there we working you know Josh gets the call I guess at some point from Mark Davis he lets us know and um man I’m the interim head coach and it’s 12:30 at night on a Tuesday we got ready in four five hours Tuesday on a

Tuesday God yeah so I say uh hold on we got to have a staff meeting before this team meeting news news got out everybody’s you know hit me I can’t respond so first be like okay what do I do what do you do so I get with champ

Kelly who’s inter head the interal GM at the time and um like all right look let’s get up there let’s rally the staff let’s get everybody together boom so we get there at 6 o00 tell the staff look you know obviously we made some changes this what we’re doing champ AP we run

And thing together hey we lock arms if you don’t want to lock arms go ahead and walk out the door all the staff said no we good we lock up team meeting about an hour later go down there tell the players exactly what we about do accountability trust passion Poise Pride

Play for one another trust one another trust the process believe in one another more importantly boys let’s have fun let’s have fun let’s make football fun again we work our ass off to celebrate on Sundays and hear that those magic words see you Wednesday that’s what I want to do the

Runs bring it back we did that for an hour straight training camp I said man we need to get that aggression out we need to get that anger out we got to get back to playing physical football style of football and I went to all of them I

Said y’all just got to trust what I’m trying to do and trusted one another and let’s do it together no more outside noise though no more whisper no more clicks no more gossip no more high school man let’s let’s be grown ass men in this bad boy if AP up my

Work sort of I believed that was on work though more importantly and I had to make sure everybody in that building believed in that and that was that was something that just didn’t happen in 24 hours those that was all those conversations that we had for 22 months

That I was a linebacker coach and just the trust that they had in me that they knew I wasn’t going to them it’s black and white it’s not that is a tough guy a a from the hood I’m just a real ass dude and I try to do right I

Just want to do right by right people you know what I mean and when you do that it makes the game simple and it makes it easier to relate to people bro like now you’re a head coach of an NFL team and you’re like yeah well I’m just

Right bro it couldn’t have been like that it couldn’t have been that easy what was that pressure what was that like you said yeah and I got up and we went the meeting it couldn’t have been that bro I didn’t I didn’t feel pressure cuz I went to

My my human reaction I went really to to my football instincts of what and how I thought the game should be played how it should be presented to players how we should talk to one another in the building the respect factor that was needed and that was all addressed and I

Laid it out very clear very slow and I don’t really talk for long periods of time it’s almost like sound bites I get my point I stick and move because we get we don’t want to hear that for a long guys especially now man these dudes got three four phones two

IPads and a computer they’re doing all that while I’m talking and giving a demonstration about goddamn inside Zone you know like like did you hear me I got you bro you never looked up but it’s on the iPad and everything else so when you say the pressure no I wasn’t pressure but

Cuz like my whole life has been pressure you know I made it known like I grew up in inner city Los Angeles I grew up where gang bang it was every corner that you walked to go to school every color was active silver and black was showing up because that was neutral really

Amongst the gangs so like that was pressure that was the real to get home yeah to get home you know what I mean like and then the cool part about of you know most of my friends was like man we just go play ball and then that’s

Where football comes into it so that was always the relief vow you I mean that was the way that you and we all know that that was a way for us to get out I didn’t care about nothing else be honest when I was younger but football knew I

Had to go to school cuz we had to do that CU that’s the only way they play football but I knew what my first love was and I said it before football never cheated on me m it’s always there whenever I need I can just I can go pick

Up that football don’t talk back don’t argue with me you know what I mean no opinions no opinion no emotion don’t get mad yeah so pressure bro it’s like it’s what you do it’s inside of you and this what I always say like you know we’ve won championships amongst us in

Here like not everybody’s a champion there you go not everybody’s a champion yeah he go I I know that’s a very it’s a very sensitive subject it’s not sens because you said we’ve all won championships I mean we’ve all played football at some level not everybody here has won the championship of our

Sport so just when you when you say we’ve all won championships AP you know been a long time I know you don’t really have that sensitive bone in your body right but just for these two talking about this it’s crazy that KP is called me now but no I won a college uh

National that’s I’m saying won it felt good then in that moment so I kind of know what you guys you you going to put me on the island huh hey bro you on your own high school nothing po Warner nothing all I have is All State all SEC

All americ but as a team I ain’t win a goddamn thing he’s won fishing tournaments but listen since since we we talking about pressure though AP most interim coaches don’t really succeed like it’s rare that you see a guy go from being an interim to actually become the guy right you

Went five and four in your that’s just your interim coach campaign and let’s call it the honeymoon phase right we understand fans fan bases uh ownership like the pressure kicks in if there is such a thing next year the expectations right all coaches want to make the Super

Bowl every coach head coaches assistant coaches Etc what are your realistic expectations for you know next season and and and and getting the guys together and making sure you guys are successful regardless of yeah and we talked about this a lot during that nwe period of just I call it winning stamina

It’s hard in this league to you say wins I know you thinking wins and losses I’m talking about in everything we do right how we attack the day how we walk in the building what’s our mindset is a purpose like I don’t care what happened yesterday I don’t care about your past

None of that matters to me it’s like what what are we doing now what are you doing today to help us win and whatever is doing if it’s in OTAs and we just we can’t be out to be physical but we get the best opportunity we can from

A mental standpoint right or boom it’s it’s phase one and and all we doing is got that 30 minute session where you can just talk about ball that we go there with a purpose because I told you like this real quick like if you don’t want

To be there and you got going on in your mind if I don’t got you mentally emotionally physically and spiritually then just stay home so when you say how do you start to build that pressure is it’s the way you built the culture what I know we have now is we

Got guys that want to be in the building no need to rush out of there they’re not looking over their shoulder they’re not worried about if I’m checking what time they got there what time they left they know they can go there and get their work done and I trust that they’re going

There with a purpose the honeymoon is over the honeymoon was over at the first game to be honest cuz that was an emotional win but then we did against the Jets okay then we lost two then we got shut out at home but then we

Went up and put up and broke a franchise record with 63 then we beat the Chiefs on Christmas day that was pressure then we had a playoff game that kind of must-win game to get in the playoffs we didn’t do that then you got to finish

The game the right way because we had nothing to play for everybody packed the U calls so how I set the tone how I set the coach what I told these guys the last game before Denver was like listen Wednesday boom got up there 700 a.m. hey next Wednesday your checks

Come granted but if you don’t want to be here and you got going on you want to pack get in the U-Haul you got flights to the Bahamas or wherever you cool to leave champ you good you going to pay them yeah AP they good hey coaches hey if you got something going

On you got you want to be at another organization hey you good champ you gonna pay him cool but if you sit your ass in this chair we rolling and we gonna play this game like we got another game cuz I said what we do in the first game in 2024 is what

Everybody’s gonna see and what they expect from the Raiders going forward and just go back and watch that Broncos game watch all these boys played nobody’s woring about being injured nobody’s woring about offseason surgeries dudes out there hunting dudes was blocking dudes was running with intent so there is no pressure

There’s nothing that we worry about as far as the wins and losses that’s going to take care of ourselves cuz you’re starting to create a culture where that’s the only thing that’s accepted now are we going to go undefeated Fredy hell no I don’t know I don’t think so

But how we attack everything and our purpose and everything is going to be that of like oh like you got to deal with us when we walk in when the Raiders walk in when they walks in you going to feel me and if I don’t feel you

We don’t work and that’s simple and that makes his really easy now as we go forward putting together a staff and bringing in players someone texted to me a couple days ago and it hit me so I just said I decided to save it and I titled it in my notes greatness fight

Says do the work every day you have to do something you don’t want to do every day challenge yourself to be uncomfortable push past apathy and laziness and fear the battle is between who you are now who you want to be and where you want to go fight for your

Greatness today that’s a message I think that would resonate with you know your guys and whether they watching the show or not man I think that’s exactly what you were speaking to yeah what I liked about you said there is like being comfortable being uncomfortable stepping on

Toes living on the edge never jumping right with all this that you feel in the room right now we we not undisciplined we ain’t a bunch of like thugs black coach former player Weare earrings rolling a low rider did that for 20 years you just now watching yeah but everything

Still a level of respect ma tell you know there’s a certain level for effort I mean t can tell you I called him out several times during the season before the head coaching hell yeah hey you the best T you’re the best receiver in the NFL hell yeah AP well

And you need to show up this Sunday Max you’re the best D in football well Goddamn Patrick Mahomes need to fill you every play so like there is no hiding there is no great it’s not like I go call uh Malcolm Co out I go call the

Practice squad go I’m going to the top dogs I’m going to my guys with the capes on my superheroes that’s why I call them those are my superheroes those the ones that are different makers right those are the ones that change the game and if you can’t address and talk to them first

I wouldn’t even be sitting in this position and that’s why I’m sitting in this position because of the respect that we have for one another and understanding that we were cool I’m still cool but I’m the head coach if you’re late you get a you get a you get

Were just going to battle say I don’t want the tag to be there now he’s he’s our guy and that’s what it was when Mark Davis made that decision that’s our guy and it’s my job to make sure I continue that same level consistency and if you

Know me well enough you know I’m not going to change I really don’t money doesn’t change me Fame doesn’t change me I’m already a success story but I’m just writing more and more like I told our players like the first thing I did too should have started at the beginning

With this I gave him a blank sheet of paper what you want to write because the books is going to keep rolling the chapters keep rolling A just got a new blank sheet start scribbling start writing change the page hit it again until I’m in the tell I’m

In the ground 6 feet deep I’m still writing I know you you know different than a lot of other people from the outside uh one of my favorite people and I know obviously she was your favorite person was your mom you mentioned being uncomfortable your mother could make

People uncomfortable but if she loved you you felt that as much as anything U you’re the only child um that was you know I’ve been around you your best friend um the way you took care of her the way she took care of you how much have you thought about her during this

Phone call I was outside for about two three hours I was waiting on Mark to tell me I got the job like Twitter knew about it before I did like officially even though I know he talked about me but uh yeah I mean I went outside the facility it’s pitch black everybody had

Already left the building man I ain’t going to lie this was a damn mistake I go upstairs I mean I go outside I’m looking up shooting stars like come on bro like seriously two of them cool and there’s one of those moments you’re like you know tell I ain’t the most

Know I watch the difference I watched Josh Jacobs not get the ball and not get yards and then get the ball and get yards I watch the team play differently defensively so now going forward right you’re in a situation it’s going to be be hard to draft a quarterback why cuz

Little like interest as far as if they want to make that move well what if it’s not the draft well you got to go through free agency worst case scenario which is off what you’re going off of we’re with a o conell won five games with him what

Happens if we get this kid a whole offseason like we giv the head coach an opportunity to grow and learn cuz he played his ass off the last five games absolutely did he played better than a lot of guys that got drafted in rounds one two and

Three for the most part you can say oh was against this it’s still the National Football League yep the kids scored 63 points the kid went through multiple games without turning the ball over and too after getting shut out he rebounded as well team and the quarterback just a response

Resilience right mental toughness not blinking went in there I wasn’t going to make a quarterback change just cuz Minnesota did it don’t mean I had to do it if I sit there and say f t you my back and because you have a bad game I flip you flip out and put another

Running back in what does that say about me my word is not my bond when I said if you’re my star linebacker because you miss a couple tackles I I I pull out on you that’s not right we’re all allowed to have bad days AP had some bad

Days but that’s what I think the difference about this team going forward is not going to change because we’re just getting started we believe in one another there’s accountability there’s trust we got dudes that want to work we’re in February we got 15 to 20 players in the building still we got

Coaches that want to sit in every interview of offensive coordinators that we’re interviewing we got guys that are bought in they’re going to do whatever it takes to win so what does it look like going forward the show and ponytail like I said was over yeah that that

First game when you say what most in head coaches week one I get it week two you get it week three in week nine it’s the same if it’s the same for nine weeks what are we saying right there are some guys that been with organizations for four or five years and

Didn’t do the same thing for nine straight weeks of how they played how it looked the effort the passion the love the pride the Poise playing for one another wins or losses okay I get it but how we made it look was the same each and every week you asked me that earlier

Winning consistency winning stamina doing it over and over again and not being tired of doing it we’re chasing the ultimate goal there’s going to be one winner and 31 losers this year I don’t care that these two teams in one’s going to win all the rest of us are

Losers hell yeah that happens every year Y and we’re going to chase that until we can be the one team that’s holding Lombardy so here’s what’s different right you went from linebacker coach in two seasons here to interim head coach and now the head coach you get to hire

People and you got to interview people this has been a very interesting hiring cycle for sure and at one point I was like okay the Raiders got Cliff Kingsbury that’s going to that is going to be their offensive coordinator then I go to sleep and I

Wake up and I’m like well they ain’t got Cliff No More how does news just break before certain conversations are had or how does that whole process work for you it has to be difficult as well because you are working to build the staff you’re having to ask can you speak to certain

Coaches but you feel like you’ve got one piece and now all of a sudden that piece goes away yeah well National Football League NFL not for long so you’re right I thought we had a guy but not for long hold on tell you put pen and paper man that’s the one

Thing I learned no different than us in free agency right got team are recruiting you things are going on listen M Johnson pretty good I guess he can still I think he can still dish it out a little bit if I’m losing the magic okay with that right and then at the end

Of the day listen man if it’s not meant to be it’s not meant to be that’s fine the good thing about that process what you talked about Ryan is that we interviewed 11 candidates all different type of coaches in different styles Dam where’s ap2 I wanted to gain

Knowledge you got one opportunity to get this right the first time if you’re fortunate you get a second time but I want to hear all the different philosophies from Office of coordinators their teaching methods their process how they get along what’s culture like to them how do they get along with each

Other how do they adjust what happens when we got adversity and I tell you I don’t want to see you throw the ball again till I tell you how you respond right office cour they don’t hear that but that happened that was a real story

How do you respond to that not only what does I here I had eight of our other assistant coaches in there to go through the process with me that’s also professional development which we don’t do coaches have to be coach just like players have to be coach does that make

Sense we there’s levels of development and for me the interesting part of this whole process is that don’t get caught in an emotional wave or get caught with what you read on the news social media they’re not going to dictate to what and how we make

Decisions but what I did get a better understanding of is that always have a backup plan and be prepared if it doesn’t your plan a doesn’t go and fall and it happens to fall through and that happened to be the case but Plan B and C wasn’t bad either now had really great

Options had some great come in here and talk to us the best and the most important part about that whole process for me was there was people that was reaching out I’m talking about very highly qualified individuals and I felt honored that they wanted to work for the Raiders in

AP that also let us know that we’re going in the right direction because if this was a show or a circus don’t want to be a part of it right but we got people that want to be a part of it and I wanted somebody that wanted to be next

To myself Patrick Graham Tom McMahon like look it’s the four horsemen and whatever qu back we go with we going out there we whooping ass but the style of play is important to me you can still throw the ball and be physical yeah how’s that if I throw a receiver

Screen right now somebody got a block you can whoop that corner’s ass if we throw the ball there’s five linear seven blockers six seven blockers they can still whoop ass up front to give this guy time but then when you get to that third and fourth quarter you say pound

Game the way we said we going to call it strategically and with the game plan and stay on script and if we need to adjust let’s be able to adjust and that goes for all our coordinators and they have Pure Freedom to call whatever they want

Your coordinators because the biggest fight now you get into is the special teams coach I don’t want six wide receivers cuz five and six don’t play special teams they ain’t no good I want I want the fourth and fifth linebacker or the fourth and sixth uh corner of

Safety so now you managing those people but when I think when you look at it you say okay what does it take to beat the Kansas City Chiefs and that’s my job along with the coordinators that we say collectively we do this and we go

Through it and we come with a plan on Monday Tuesday we present it what we go through Wednesday that’s what we rolling with and if we need to make adjustments we will but this is one thing I’m gonna keep going back to if you believe in

Your process and you believe in the way that You’ gone throughout throughout the week and you have the ability to adjust and you understand that you’re going to have to make settle um adjustments and movements throughout the game you can live with it I can live with my decisions if I go in

There I’m just playing craps and I’m just rolling a dice and I don’t know what number about to H that’s totally different but it’s not that kind of crapshoot and I think I’ll say this like being part of a winning team and a winning organization prior when I was a

Her could she get everybody in the business department into the team room holds about 250 plus she said AP give me about 45 minutes so me and Jack Kelly as we’re going through she text us we’re ready didn’t know what to expect came through the back door she introduced us they all cool
