This time on Quest for the open we travel to America hello delm I fix my swing and play my first comp of the Year hey everyone welcome down to episode two of quest for the open and you find us in beautiful amazing incredible California and we got an absolutely jam-packed episode this week

So we’re actually over here to take part in the good good desert open it’s taking on the very best YouTubers in the world but we’re starting here in California because we’ve been doing some Club fitting we’ve been filming at some beautiful courses such as here at aviar

I mean talk about club houses by the way that is absolutely Elite now before we play in this comp which is going to be my first comp of the year playing against some of the very best golfers on YouTube and Beyond I wanted to make sure

That I had my bag in full working order so the fittings that we’ve gone through I first of all wanted to make sure that my driver was tuned to Perfection so first up we went to Ping which bad shot were you driver uh again like last year SL okay

Yeah going that way but again I’m just trying to trying to neutralize path so much now that there have been a few left screen in get golfers coming they got big slices or big PS and and hooks and they’ve gone and bought a driver off eBay and stuck a different shaft in the

Head or Classics putting a really thick grip on it it’s going to throw the swing weight of that driver out and it’ll lead you to kind of Clues as to why they’re going to start hitting those bad shots so let’s do this this is just basically um standard swing weight D5 okay

Just flatten it a little bit possibly how’s that shaft feel yeah feels feels good but kind maybe just thinking it’s like normal anyway so yeah just it one more on right let’s have a little look then so we know from Attack angle and ball speed what your launch and spin

Should be so you’re 98% efficient okay so your Optimum so this is your what you’re doing this is your Optimum so you if you launched it half a degree higher you would only gain two yards so you are dialed in with that 98% efficient really

Good so what I would maybe do if you see a lot of those shots going a little bit too far left i’ probably let’s just put that in a flat position yeah and just and see if that just calms that amount of movement down little launches up a

Little spins down a little little bit more on the up G you another another seven yards cool yeah when you hit 300 plus another seven yards is it’s all right so yeah drive went to slightly flat and one degree down so 8° and so far it is definitely my best club in the

Bag went to the kingdom and we got fitted for Fairway woods so if you not checked out that video make sure you do so now but also whilst we were there I had a ball fitting now late last year I did a massive comparison of all the best

Premium balls in golf and I found that the tp5 suited my game the best from Taylor Maid so I thought while we’re at the Kingdom and while we had access to all these amazing intelligent wonderful people they could tell me if I’d made the right choice and it was interesting all right

Take a couple shots make sure that the quad’s working we’ll make sure that our trackman systems all dialed in and then we’ll kind of start working through it uh right where we um if you could go I scary to say it if you go right at that

First track man unit on the pole there oh right okay yeah cool obviously if you uh if you hit it right in the middle of the unit it’s going to be a really short fitting for me though okay don’t oh that’s all right so these are you want to label

These uh five we’ll just label them five and x and then this is pitching wedge and we’ll we’ll get started we’re all good to go you notice the feel difference there between the two yeah just that slight slight F extra firmness but that might just be because I’m not contacting the

Earth as much so so I mean from what I’m seeing it’s probably what you saw tunior testing little lower spin obviously probably a little bit firmer feel yeah we gained a lot of spin on the X but we want to do that without giving up anything on the driver right cuz you

Probably remember back in like 19 r x was it was a low spin in my head more than in reality that’s still still a thing in my mind so if I’m hitting an X and I’m going around the greens I’m like is it is it really going enough yeah so

Yeah and that’s what we try to do here so like with the five you’re you had one you know less than ideal shot there so we’ll throw we’ll throw that one out for the numbers uh my drive be more spin than that yeah so like 9850 right 9,300

For okay so like we’re still getting spin I don’t think there’s any at least in our testing pitching wedge is not the club where you’re going to be too worried about 9,300 is enough spin coming back yeah yeah um so that’s why I said we’ll move up through the bag we’ll

Do seven iron and 75 gives a real indication of like how do you as a player how much spin do you generate how does that how does that affect you know your ball flight we got a nice we turn the breeze on for you right into you so

You can really do stress test here you’re going to be honest it’s not going to make you feel very good about your carry distance but well so on on my trackman data this is the system we have 10 Radars looking uh on your last shot

157 157 it is accurate to 8 in so I do tend to trust this track van system some people say 8 in is quite a lot this some do it depends what industry you’re in you know yeah yeah so I mean we’re seeing lower spin yeah we’re also seeing a little bit

Of ball speed which is the whole idea right of the X and then the big thing though for you is that you have enough speed right you’re not like not fighting for Speed the pitching wedge and the Seven were really similar yeah that five

Iron mean is kind of having me lean X so I think we do driver that will kind of be the full exaggeration of like that performance you’re going to notice the biggest difference on their long iron s your driver and then around the green fast that’s quite fast 26 what 26 I

Can’t fat these so I’m feeling a bit more confident yeah but that’s 75 B what what’s your normal boss speed uh it’s got 170 I creep it a bit higher at times but 75 was 755 this is different it’s sunny I mean sure actually I think it’s cuz you did

The run that’s why you got that ball speed thank you thank you thank yeah holy what do you see spin is this C you expect spin wise for this ball that was like 26 28 should be that’s a little bit higher than what I’ve been seeing so it’s also higher

Ball speed than like what you said it’s so high I say that’s higher than Rory it’s his right now Jake what was that spin spin was 2750 that’s it yeah it’s a much better fly it’s a much better flag so so that one on mine just went

274 which I know short but you’re again in uphill into the win the best one you got with a five was 53 right okay and so I mean that’s a club and a half shorter shot in by the way the back look at the back look at the back look at that back

Look at that bag is that not the sexiest bag you’ve ever seen in your life if you’re into like leaves I’ve also been trying to take advantage of this weather by getting some practicing which I desperately need I’m going to be having a lesson off the me and my golf boys so

Pier and Andy and I’m also going to be playing my first round with those clubs at somewhere called the farm so it’s going to be an action packed few days before we head across the desert to Arizona to take on this competition I’m really really excited to get going the

Way I’m striking it slightly nervous cuz there’s going to be a lot of fans I’m sure it’ll be fine gives us all the data and numbers this is now going to get everything more more synced up we swing back you do a really good job of turning your hips here but then

They kind of stop about here could we get nearer 40° of hip rotation and now we got his hands more around his head cracked it he’s cracked it now honestly I’m so happy Peter Finch good thank you guess I’ll stick it in in okay we are about to embark on what

I just absolutely love the desert when we finally got to Arizona I decided to try and do a little bit more exercise which ended in me pulling my Cal which isn’t very useful uh it is feeling a little bit better though by the time we got to Rolling Hills grass clippings the

Practice round was underway and the weather was absolutely horrendous it was wet it was cold and it didn’t put me in the best frame of mind for the event but we battled on and took as much information in as we could so right here for a practice round I am soaked I am

Freezing but I’m trying to take in as much as humanly possible were you filmed me before little bit honestly it was so good because to Arizona I’m not packed a pair of pants so annoyed but nice little coures actually quite tricky these greens are awesome watch this roll as it goes

You see that roong how you feeling um all right actually um actually get a decent night’s sleep um looking forward to the event maybe slightly nervous now practice round yesterday was decent um me and Troy I think we’re finding our form like by the end of that round I was hit some really

Really good iron shots following the lesson I had with pi and Andy made my golf and trot is like actually being quite positive which is a nice surprise I think he had a lesson with Martin Chuck and Martin Chuck was like just G him a little shoulder rub and told him

Easy however the next hole was a par 4 and I loaded up with the driver and managed to hit it well a long long way into the desert but we’ll gloss over that because my wonderful partner Chris Trot he hit it up by the green side I

Actually hit a really good chip and even though it was preferred lies the grass was very fluffy around the greens it wasn’t very confidence inspiring however a much needed birdie was picked up on this hole if we didn’t birdie that then we would have lost a lot of ground early sh Pete

That hole and what we felt at this moment as a few of our competitors had made a fast start is that we were slipping behind and it’s very difficult to try and regain confidence when you have that sensation we kept leaving ourselves these puts as well from about

20 to 25 ft and it’s only going to be under 10% of the best Putters in the world on the PG J tour will hold this type of put yes we had two goes at it but realistically we needed to be closer or just start haing Jordan Spees style

Of buts there was a hole in one prize available on the n a beautiful Rolex um unfortunately my left wrist is still bare so that should give you an indication of how good our t- shots were we managed to get a par but game compared to the rest of the field we

Were slipping behind now this little Par Four on the 10th absolutely essential that we got a birdie we hit a couple of good t- shots a little bit short of the green and I hit an okay chip which Chase past the pin a little bit I missed the P

So it was down to trotty to try and secure the birdie and what a beautiful man he is slotted into the hole and off we walk can we get two birdies in a row okay so that was a birdie which is good um we need to birdie literally every

Single hole and then I think we’re currently tied the leaders I’ve been a scoreboard Watcher I don’t know if that’s a good thing or a bad thing what it does mean though is this is need to go close this this needs to go in and I fancy it nice

Shot what do you got in the bag you got a 50 you got a 4 you got a 50 I was 2 some cash now sure we win there you go how you good yeah yeah anywhere you want spot you got me showing my gray hair and everything that’s crazy the reason why

What there was there was a ball like two feet all right ped off yeah so basic rules are I hit uh Willie wilcox’s ball obviously uh as you do and I don’t do anything with my ball it’s just where it is but where Will’s ball was hit he gets to replace it so

So it was at this point where we realized that we weren’t going to win but we did want to put in a good performance and maybe clamber up into second place again a couple of 20 Footers here just slid by The Edge and we were not exactly relegated but we

Were put into joint third place with a good batch of other golfers I think overall we were slightly frustrated cuz we felt like we left so many shots out there which is easy to say in a scramble and everyone probably felt the same but boy oh boy there was a real chance of

Here of digging deep and coming home with the wi but as the first comp of the year goes I was satisfied with how I handled the nerves and there were lots of positives to take but also a lot of learnings okay so couple days later and

6 million flights uh some lost clubs and a fantastic amount of jet lag we are back in the UK reflecting on that event it was a fantastic experience we’ve actually just sat down recorded a podcast on the ru court if you’ve not listened to the ru Court golf podcast

Relaxed I felt so that’s a positive some of the negatives definitely from a mindset point of view uh thinking through shots getting a real clear pre-shot routine that’s not quite there yet I have been working on that in the background but with pre-shot routine with anything to do with the

Psychological game it’s just about consistency and repetition and it can get a bit dull it can get a bit boring but it’s just about keep on doing it keep on doing it keep on doing it and you know this year is all about trying these things I’ve not done before so I’m
