Padres’ Ha-Seong Kim on moving to shortstop and his conversation with Xander Bogaerts

Padres’ Ha-Seong Kim on moving back to shortstop and his conversation with Xander Bogaerts on the decision.

Hang I know yesterday Mike Schult mentioned that you would be the permanent new short stop and and Zer bogar is move in a second just your your thoughts on that move I didn’t really expect that at all um that news coming from Mr sh yesterday but um I think it’s a really big

Motivation for me to uh play my uh original position at shortstop and I think I’ll need to work harder to put in a better performance than I did um in the previous seasons was that conversation like with with Xander Bogart I know he mentioned that that I

Mean that you were a great short stop and he has all the respect in the world for you to move to that position Yeah I think Xander was very nice about it and he he was very well open to uh the idea of moving to second base I’m really grateful for that as well and I think to myself if I was in Xander’s shoes would have have made this uh same

Choice so I have really high praise for him I have a lot of respect for him making that decision as well so I think I just need to put in a good performance at shortstop now you played a lot of second base before but when you came

Back from the WBC last year to play after you played shortstop what was the biggest adjustment just getting used to playing second base every day For yeah always felt comfortable playing um short stop it’s all it’s a position that I’ve played throughout my career since I was a little kid so it feels like home um playing there but at the same time um I know there’s great other great players around um in this in this organization

So uh I just had to uh play in a position for the team and I’ll play as I said before I’ll play wherever the team needs me to so I’m grateful for the opportunity to play shorts stop this season
