Last week we learned that the Disc Golf Pro Tour would not be using UDisc Live as its digital scores and statistics provider for the upcoming 2024 season and will instead develop their own platform, in collaboration with the PDGA, hosted on DGPT.com. We discussed the implications of this move and the motivating factors for both the DGPT and UDisc that may have influenced their decision.

Hello everyone it’s Chris Clark with dis golf. law the disolf pro tour is parting ways with udis for the 2024 season and will transition to a new technology service provider for recording and displaying live scores and competition statistics for the 2024 season the new platform will be powered by the PDGA
Technology committee which now includes the team from stat Mando the popular disc golf statistics platform that was recently acquired by the PDGA a basic version of the new live scoring platform will be available beginning at the dgpt regular season and will be hosted on dgpt tocom this is big news for multiple
Reasons of course the departure of udisk is significant udisk had been involved with the pro tour since 2016 as the core live scoring and statistics technology provider at dgpt events their partnership produced stat categories and terminology that have now become cemented in disc golf language and
Culture such as Circle one and circle 2 udisk live was also one of the most popular platforms for checking scores and tour standings so why would the dgpt want to essentially start over from scratch it likely comes down to wanting to fully own and control their data
Leagues like the NFL and Major League Baseball make millions every year licensing their data to third parties fantasy football products like ESPN and Yahoo typically get their data through Partnerships with the leagues and their data provider Partners these providers collect collect and distribute real time and historical Sports data including
Player statistics injury updates and other relevant information it’s common for these Partnerships to involve a combination of upfront fees ongoing subscription costs and uh potentially even Revenue sharing Arrangements based on the usage of the data in the disc golf pro tour’s announcement their vice president of business administration
Acknowledged this as a major driver of the tour’s decision hosting our own scores and stats is the first step towards being able to use our data for further fan engagement and to reach new audiences we will be able to provide third-party access to our scores and statistics that can be used by sports
News organizations or for gaming such as fantasy and wager meur in now to me this is one of the most important aspects of the disc golf pro tour’s decision the opportunity to attract new fans through fantasy and wagering has massive potential to grow and legitimize a sport as the popularity of legalized Sports
Gambling rises in the US the economic effects extend further into the realm of sponsorships advertising and other forms of Partnerships and we’ve already started to see examples of disc golf Fantasy platforms partnering with players just recently Kristen Tatar announced an endorsement deal with path.com a European fullservice gaming
Site which offers slots and bedding and casino type products just imagine the opportunities and dollars that would flow into the sport if sites like like DraftKings and FanDuel got involved there will always be a significant number of sports enthusiasts who predominantly tune into games with betting in mind these fans are open to
Exploring new sports as long as they can bet on them now with that being said there are still other reasons the disc golf pro tour would want ownership over the data that it collects the disc golf pro tour has worked hard to consolidate power in disc golf by acquiring iring
Various competing tours and media companies over the past decade hosting the goto source for scores and stats on their own website gives them even greater access to convert more disc golf fans into paying dgn subscribers altogether this seems like a pretty logical move for the dgpt and we will be
Excited to see the roll out of this new platform form in the near future but what about udisk what Will its role in disc golf look like going forward udisk has been moving away from the PDGA and the disc golf pro tour for a while now
It used to be the case that a udisk pro came as a free benefit of buying a PDGA membership but that ended in 2022 and as many of you have probably heard by now this year you udis increased the price of a pro subscription from $15 a year to
$30 a year udisk has also rolled out a slew of new features recently including a new udisk rating system for tracking performance and assessing course difficulty udisk has also rolled out a free udisk events platform for running tournaments and leagues and an overhauled system for finding and categorizing courses udisk also
Announced a partnership with Foo players Ella Hanson and Holland Handley to run a series of women’s disc golf clinics during the 2024 season obviously we know that udisk has always been much more than just a way to check the scores at Pro Tour events but it does seem that
Over the past year or two udisk has made an effort to Pivot away from being just a simp scorekeeping app to a robust all-in-one platform that facilitates player participation tournament and course development media relations and Outreach and more does this sound familiar those are some of the exact
Same objectives that are laid out in the PDGA mission statement we’ve never really seen a viable direct competitor to the PDGA a sites like Disc Golf Scene and disc golf course review offer similar and sometimes overlapping services but are almost always working alongside or in tandem with the PDGA you
Could perhaps consider the disc golf pro tour to be a competitor to the PDGA in some ways the introduction of the pro tour and its success did essentially kill the PDGA national tour but their relationship has now become much more collaborative particularly regarding event scheduling and enforcement of PDGA
Rules at disc golf pro tour events now udisk and the PDGA both have their own rating systems both have their own platform for live scoring at events both produce educational and promotional content about the sport most people who read the statements from the prot tour and udisk assumed that this breakup was
Initiated by the disc golf pro tour but what if that’s wrong maybe udisk was the one who wanted to end their partnership in their statement udis co-founders emphasized how the new circumstances would give them more time to focus on delivering Innovations to their core product and that the udisk live website
Would eventually become a place to search for scores and stats from all disc golf tournaments that run using the free udisk events platform it will certainly be interesting to see how the Power Balance in the disc golf industry changes as a result of these announcements so tell us what do you
Think will the new disc golf prot tour platform be a good thing for the sport will it bring dollars from fantasy and from wagering do we or should we want that and will you dis rise up as a competitor to the PDGA is disc golf big enough to support two different entities
Sanctioning and operating competitions we would love to hear your thoughts please like subscribe leave a comment and thanks for Watching

Personally, I always thought UDisc should move in the social media direction of Disc Golf. Nothing crazy, but if UDisc had a section where you could have friends (which is already basically incorporated into the app through playing with them) and see their recent scores and/or any pictures or videos they may have taken on the course I think it would be really cool. It would also be a cool way to get more pictures for courses.
Why does everything the pro tour does feel like a cash grab?
Whenever a tournament/league uses Udisc I refuse to keep score. I am all in for PDGA live though that makes it so easy and almost fun to keep score.
It has NOTHING to do with fan interaction or experience.
It has to do with $$$$$$ !!!!
They could care less about the fans, I wanna see how much the DGPT has made in the last few years….. where’s that money going? Or who’s pockets are getting stuffed. They’ve made millions and the product is still bad except for the players who don’t get any of the monies. And they are the ones who bring viewers and buy discs.
Great lighting in this video. Sharp shirt. Good production. Keep it up!
I have found myself watching less tournaments and just playing the sport not following near as much because of the widespread commercialization that the sport has been moving to and I liked udisc but I won't be spending 30 on it
Really disappointed with the huge U-Disc pro subscription increase, considering dropping that. As with most pro sports I am developing a somewhat ambivalent attitude toward the pro tour, I find myself less interested. I am mainly focused in my local club play and how I can improve my game (bought my first Innova disc in 1985).
UDISC will come in and take the west coast tour. Maybe down the line have a east and west coast battle at the end of the season
The whole investment by corporations and conglomeration of disc golf is so sad. Screw Udisc and PDGA apps, I can record on my scores on a piece of paper. Screw the DGPT and their pay per view. Screw the PDGA for eliminating classic courses from the schedule. I got a bag and don't need any of the so called 'growing the sport' lies. Just a bunch of greedy peeps hoping to get rich through gambling and bs marketing.
Disc golf scene is owned by the PDGA
The blend of Goose missing a putt with Squid Game was solid! 8^)
team udisc, 1000% better quality
I’m pretty sure that Disc Golf Scene is owned by the PDGA
I think the “pro” PDGA and “the rest of us” are so far removed. The revolving door of players that don’t stick with tournament play or the sport in general is why these two entities exist in the first place. One category for normal players, and the other for professional players/aspiring pros.
Me and some buddies are running our own fantasy "league" this year actually!
The sport is young enough there need to be competing leagues. I do not like trusting the future of the sport to the whims of a few individuals trying to make money.
DGPT/PDGA need competition from smaller organizations, or they have no reason to give us an improved product.
GO UDISC! I might sign up for a tournament if it didn't come with the added pressure of joining the PDGA.
I don't believe from the comments I've seen that Udisc initiated this, it certainly seems they knew of it much sooner than they revealed, which I have the same criticism either way but it would be an even stronger criticism if it was revealed that they were the initiators, and that is the fact that they chose to withhold any information about the removal of a core feature until after a huge number of the subscriber base had renewed subscriptions at double the previous rate.
UDisc you just signed you own obituary you were already to costly a year for what you offer and you’re more of a casual players use to get used to a new course you have no business in tournaments that are pdga sanctioned
DGPT is getting ahead it itself. They aren't going to get any opportinites with their "data" if they keep raising prices so nobody can watch their BS coverage/product. Why would any other businesses get involved if nobody watches the product?
Just wait until there’s nothing but sports betting commercials on DGN and Jomez instead of discs and bags nstuff…
Have you done a video on what to consider legally if you plan on opening your own private disc golf course?
I am so glad I have never given DGPT a single cent of my money. Their coverage is lower quality than YouTube in 2012 – and it's little more than ultra-lossy 360p20 sold as 1080p60. In my view it's immoral to organise your business to take advantage of gambling – which is a curse on our society, and a major problem to be solved, not something to openly embrace.
Shame on you, DGPT. Shame on you!
Why so much atrocious background noise? Is that supposed to be music? Seriously, if I want to listen to music, there are other apps for that. I'm not here for the concert. I'm here for the disc golf information. Please knock it off with the background noise!
Advertizing is way more serious than Advertising
The biggest problem I have with the PDGA Live app compared to UDisc is the PDGA app is essentially a glorified web interface that's very laggy in terms of UI usage, and slow to update. Starting this year we all have to use it on every card we play, and everyone is forced to use a clumsy, unoptimized method that sounds better in theory than it is in practice. That's not to say UDisc is perfect, but it's a better app that essentially has years of a headstart advantage.
