This is better than Desperate Housewives!

In the NFL off season it seems that drama is never too far removed from the news Cycles well in today’s episode we’re going to be talking about how a drama field head coaching search has turned into a bitter war of words stay tuned everybody it’s about to get

Interesting we used to be a team no one respected we used to be a team no one feared that was then this is now first victory of the year on the line golf’s got it back looks grow Enz you know who we are F Enzo touchdown

Detroit Lion and you know where to find us we won’t be far we’ll be on your front porch waiting for you we are the new Air Alliance and we are driven by Detroit hello everyone and welcome back to yet another episode of MCM Motor City Mania I’m your host David teike and as

Always we’re diving in but before we dive on in I just want to say to all my loyal fans and subscribers that are coming back thank you all for coming back thank you all for your view your support and your patronage and those that are tuning in for the very first

Time I just want to say thank you for devoting some of your time I hope you enjoy the content and I hope to gain your subscription if I’ve earned and deserved it and with that being said to everybody I just want to say I hope you’re having a great day God bless and

Let’s dive into the show here so I’m not going to beat too much around the bush here we already know that the Lions have been able to retain Ben Johnson he’s coming back this was news that I talked about in a previous episode I’ll put the

Link to that episode back up at the top and the Lions fans likewise are extremely happy they’re extremely jubilant about the fact that the Lions will get Ben Johnson services for yet another year as the offensive coordinator it’s good news for us Lions fans and obviously universally usually

Around the NFL and for everybody else the decision has been met with Jubilation because well you have to think about Lions fans are getting a def a coordinator that they really love they want to see comeback that has done a lot of good for the Detroit Lions and many

Analysts that heard the news of the Lions retaining Ben Johnson services for yet another year saw the move as a major win for the Lions because it helps them have another chance to go and get back to the conference Championship Game possibly make a Super Bowl run so again

For most people this move that Ben Johnson that you know with Ben Johnson coming back to the Detroit Lions it’s been considered a really good move for the Lions and a lot of people think it’s good for them however though not everybody is happy that Ben Johnson is back with the

Lions I’m just going to say this right now this offseason saw a lot of head coaching vacancies become available probably the most that we’ve seen in a while because there were eight head coaching vacancies and I would say this most analysts thought very highly thought that the lions were likely going

To lose either one or both of their coordinators because they were so high sought after they got a lot of interviews just like they did the previous year but surprisingly neither one of them got hired well I’m just going to say this in one of the more interesting offseason storylines Ben

Johnson and the team that was viewed most likely to hire him at least in the last couple of weeks the commanders are engaging in what I would consider a very bitter and very dramatic war of words over social media now what exactly do I mean by this well let’s get into it this

Is where the story kind of goes off because this is where it gets really interesting and fun for me so like we already know us Lions fans the rest of the NFL world knows this Ben Johnson has been a very very hot head coaching candidate for the last two off seasons

And let’s understand something here for two straight off Seasons Ben Johnson has gone through a head coaching Carousel of interviews and then has withdrawn his name from becoming a head coach and then staying with the Lions last year it happened when the Panthers were looking

Like they were about to pounce on him he withdrew his name the Panthers then hired Frank Reich to be their head coach this year the same thing happened Ben Johnson went through several interviews it looked like the commanders were going to be were going to be springing

Themselves to hire Ben Johnson and then all of a sudden Ben Johnson pulls out of the competition pulls out of the race and then the the commanders go out and they sign Dan Quinn the Dallas Cowboys defensive coach and former Atlanta Falcons head coach now that’s what we

Know so far that is concrete and proven however though what’s different from this year versus last year is that last year when Ben Johnson pulled out that was pretty much the end of the story there was no hey you know what this that or the other

Thing went on it’s like hey the Panthers really wanted Ben Johnson Ben Johnson didn’t want to leave the Lions increased his salary that was the end of the story however though this year it has taken a much more dramatic turn of events because the commanders who are the most

Interested team in signing Ben Johnson I would say the best way to describe it is they feel spurned in the fact that Johnson due to two straight you know kind of slights that have happened due the you know social media that they feel like they have been insulted they feel

Like they’ve been slighted now what am I talking about two different slides here well I’m just going to say this these are supposed slides these are supposed things that have happened other than the one that you know Ben Johnson just decided to say hey I don’t want the job

The second one that I’m talking about the supposed one I’m talking about is that after Ben Johnson said listen I don’t want the job he pulled out of contention with the commanders for the race of the head coaching job that was the first slight the second slight which

I’m saying is supposed is that a report came out later that supposedly Ben Johnson said that he was turned off by the Commander’s ownership because Ben Johnson thought that the guys were more basketball oriented and that they had a little too much confidence in their football opinions so pretty much what

Ben Johnson is supposedly saying there from the supposed report is that Ben Johnson thought that these were basketball guys that thought they knew what they were talking about with football and it instantly turned him off because obviously Ben Johnson didn’t think they knew anything about football

Or knew too little to actually in you know entice him to want to take that head coaching job so what you’re seeing there is that the commanders feel at least from what I am standing and sitting at that they were slided first number one and foremost because they

Wanted to make Ben Johnson their coach and he pulled out at the last minute said no I don’t want to be the coach and then after that whole thing happened there were reports that came out that pretty much he said yeah I don’t really think that these guys know what they’re

Talking about I think that they’re a little bit too confident in what they think they know versus what they don’t know so that’s where this whole thing starts that’s where the drama starts that’s where This Bitter war of words starts because obviously this is kind of a little bit interesting because the

First thing I have to ask myself is how really true is this report how really you know uh verifiable or you know credible is the report that we’re hearing that Ben Johnson supposedly say this because in my honest opinion this kind of sounds a little bit ridiculous

Because in the entire time Ben Johnson has been with the Lions he has never once said anything remotely close to this before during any of the interview processes that he’s been through and to be fair Ben Johnson has been through quite a lot of interviews and anytime

Dan Campbell has talked about him Aaron Glenn any of the other coaches or players this kind of conversation has never ever come up before they say that he’s very kind that he’s very this that or the other thing but this is not usually in Ben Johnson’s wheelhouse so

To me this doesn’t make a whole lot of sense however though that’s me talking as a lions fan if I want to be fair to the whole argument I have to kind of take a look at this from the perspective of maybe Ben Johnson did say this but

Why did Ben Johnson say this so let’s just play the supposed art here that you know maybe the statement is true and Ben Johnson did say this well let’s understand something here Ben Johnson’s not exactly wrong with what he said about these being basketball guys you

Have to think about it the two primary owners of the Washington commanders are Josh Harris and Magic Johnson Josh Harris is the principal owner of the Philadelphia 76ers and Magic Johnson is an as a Hall of Fame basketball player formerly with the Lakers so it’s like

Both of these guys have very strong ties to basketball backgrounds this is what they do so to Ben Johnson I would think that the idea of having a potential basketball approach to making a supposedly winning football team doesn’t necessarily work and let’s think about it why wouldn’t it work well let’s just

Think about the difference between the two Sports basketball and football are not the same thing basketball is a fan team sport which requires very little teamwork other than the fact of okay you’re constantly passing you’re constantly moving you’re trying to get the defense and the offense to work

Together there’s that teamwork I’m not saying it has no teamwork but let’s put this in comparison to football here you’re talking about Five Guys on a basketball court versus 11 guys on a football field a basketball court is nowhere near as big or as broad as a

Football field so that right there is completely different you’ve got many more bodies on the field and you’ve got a lot more space to work with furthermore basketball is nowhere in the same category let alone the same freaking universe as terms of physicality in terms of football football and basketball are completely

Different here so when you think about it football requires more moving Parts it requires more players it requires more physical preparation and training it requires a lot more teamwork there’s a lot more that goes into football in my opinion than basketball I’m not saying basketball is a bad sport I’m not saying

That I don’t think basketball is a good sport I’m just simply saying when you compare the two in terms of how they work together football has a lot more moving parts to it so when you think about that if according to what we’re hearing from Ben Johnson if he thought

That both Josh Harris and Magic Johnson were going to take a basketball approach to how they were going to go about building a football team I could understand why Ben Johnson would have a problem with this supposed team philosophy and approach because it’s like listen you can’t build a football

Team the same way you’d build a basketball team it’s just not going to work in football you have to worry about the salary cap a lot more than you have to do with basketball also in basketball there’s a lot of people that are constantly saying Hey I want to bring

This guy in play with me and oh after a year or two I want out I want to get traded you can’t do that with football football is a completely different kind of sport it takes a lot more to make a successful football team than it does to

Be a successful basketball team that’s just my honest opinion I know that I got some fans that are obviously basketball fans on top of football fans I’m just talking about it from my perspective here you’re talking about five starting players with a couple of backups versus freaking 11 starting players on both

Sides of a football field and you have to have backups for them to where you have a 46-man team active every single week versus in basketball what is it like maybe 20 players if that so again you’re talking about a completely different set of Dynamics here you can’t

Have a basketball approach to building a winning football team and that’s I think where freaking Ben Johnson if this statement is true is is coming from it’s like listen you can’t have a basketball mindset to build a football team it’s just not going to work so I can think

That that’s probably the reason why Ben Johnson if the statement is true would have made that statement now obviously of course this would not be a dramatic bitter kind of war or exchange of words unless the other side decided to say something because now we have to take a

Look at what the commanders said in Return to this supposed statement by Ben Johnson so what we found out here is that the Commanders after they supposedly heard what Ben Johnson had to say about this whole thing they reversed course and according to NFL Insider Mike

Galo he said that he was told by them that they thought he did not particularly interview very well and that they said that I’ve heard and this is Mike rfo saying that he heard that his personality that Ben Johnson was not the most gregarious guy not a Dan Quinn

Type of guy so in their opinion what Mike rfo was saying is that he thought that they were that he Ben Johnson was was pretty low on the list at that point by the time they got to where they were at so what the commanders are trying to

Say is is that one they were never really interested in Ben Johnson with that statement and number two they’re saying that the reason why they weren’t interested in him is because he interviewed poorly but the reason why this doesn’t make any sense to me is because it sounds like a bunch of

Malarkey it sounds like a bunch of horse hockey which that’s just a nice way of saying you know BS and here’s the reason why this makes no sense here’s the reason why I think this is a bunch of crap because I have to ask a series of questions here there are four questions

That I have to ask here that really kind of cut at this whole idea that the commanders are saying oh well you know what we never really were interested in Ben Johnson he didn’t interview particularly well blah blah blah blah blah okay here’s my first question if

Ben Johnson was never really a candidate a serious candidate then I have to ask this question why before the Lions went to their conference Championship Game there were several reports that the commanders had him as their favorite candidate as their Prime candidate as the one that they plan to hire there

Were a lot of reports that were coming out from a lot of different people that after the conference Championship Game the commanders were going to put in a serious offer to want Ben Johnson to be their head coach I heard it from shefer I heard it from freaking pisaro I heard

It from Rapaport there were a lot of people that all said the same thing that Ben Johnson was the favorite for the commanders it was before the conference Championship game so you can’t tell me that that that what the commanders are saying that he was never a serious

Interest of theirs has any Merit at that point you’re pretty much saying oh well we’re trying to back Trace here because now we look like a bunch of idiots so there’s that point the second question I have to ask is this the commander supposedly told Gara that he had a bad

Interview well if Ben Johnson was such a bad interviewee why would you give him a second interview if he was as bad as you say he was giving him a second interview literally is counterproductive to the whole process and it literally makes no sense I don’t have to interview somebody

A second time to figure out if they’re a bad interviewee that okay you’re not a fit because it’s like if you were bad interviewee the first time chances are you’re not going to give a second you’re not going to give a good impression the second time you only have one chance to

Make a good first impression and if you screw it up chances are most people are not going to give you a second chance to do so so to me it makes no sense what the commanders are saying that oh well Ben Johnson was such a bad interviewee

We didn’t really think of him as a serious candidate well then why did you plan to set up a second interview with him in the first place that to me makes no sense and then point number three to further expand upon that point about the secondary viiew

I asked this question if he was such a bad interviewee not only why would you give him a second interview but why would you fly team officials out to Detroit to interview him and Aaron Glenn you can’t you sure as hell can’t tell me that that you flew team officials out

Just to interview Glenn we already know that’s not the case you flew them out because you wanted to interview both of them but I can guar Dam te you this there is no way in hell they just flew them out there just to interview Glenn they wanted to interview Ben Johnson

Specifically and they decided Well since we’re here we’re ALS Al going to interview Glenn as well kind of as a courtesy because they didn’t want to just be like okay we’re specifically going after just Ben Johnson they wanted to make sure it looked good to everybody

That was watching what was going on here so to me it’s like Washington you can’t say that you weren’t interested in Ben Johnson that you didn’t want him when your op when your actions are speaking the exact opposite thing that makes no sense and then finally Point number four

I’m just going to say this if Dan Quinn was the guy that you supposedly wanted the whole time because that’s what the commanders are saying well Dan Quinn was always the guy we wanted he was the guy that we wanted well if Dan Quinn was the

Guy that you wanted why did you wait until Ben Johnson was out of the race why until he pulled out of the head coaching candidate why would you wait until after Ben Johnson had pulled out of the race to officially hire Dan Quinn even though you’d already interviewed

Dan Quinn twice to Ben Johnson only once at that point unless of course you were still wanting to hire Ben Johnson and then once he pulled out you’re like well we lost our top candidate we have to go with our second best option so what happened happened there is the

Commanders had to settle for Dan Quinn when they really wanted Ben Johnson and now what the commanders are trying to say is well we never really wanted Ben Johnson Dan quum was always the guy we wanted all along yeah that literally makes no damn sense that is that is the

Exact opposite of what happened in the hierarchy and in the you know the linear timeline of events so to me it’s like okay the commanders they got embarrassed and right now they’re trying to salvage themselves with a PR campaign to make it look like well we never really want Ben

Johnson Ben Johnson was this that or the other thing he was rude he didn’t fit our he didn’t fit what we were looking for he didn’t interview very well we got the guy we really wanted Dan Quinn point of the matter is that’s not at all what

The actions State that’s not at all what we’ve heard that’s not at all the truth of the matter the commanders are literally in PR damage control now obviously this comes the question of what’s the Fallout from this well the Fallout from this war of WS is this Ben

Johnson I’m going to say this could probably guarantee that he’s not going to get a lot of head coach coaching interest for the next couple of years because as we all know the NFL has a bit of a long memory here and if pams think that oh Ben Johnson actually is this and

This is what the commanders are saying has any sort of Truth they might be less willing to give him interviews or willing to hire him now I’m going to say this for us Lions fans this is something that we would welcome because we want Ben Johnson to stay here we want him to

Stay in Detroit because let’s think about it Ben Johnson with Jared G have led the Detroit Lions offense to two top five finishes over the last two years so with Ben John and jarro go in the same building for the next couple of years this should ensure the Lions have a top

Offense for years to come so the Fallout there is not really anything something bad for Ben Johnson because as long as he’s here in Detroit he’s always going to have a job the question is whether or not teams outside of the building are going to want to hire him for a head

Coaching position after this Fallout with the commanders now what’s the Fallout for the commanders well here’s the Fallout for them one they got embarrassed let’s not let’s not dance around it let’s not try and dress it up as something that it’s not the commanders got embarrassed they wanted Ben Johnson Ben Johnson

Turned his nose up at them then there was this whole supposed comment that Ben Johnson made and so now they’re trying to back Trace they’re trying to backpedal and say well we didn’t want him but the point of the matter is you did want Ben Johnson you had to settle

For your second best option in Dan Quinn and now you’re blatantly lying to try and cover Your Tracks it’s not a good look at this point it’s like listen just admit the fact you wanted Ben Johnson you didn’t get him he thumbed his nose up at you you didn’t like it that’s in

Essence what this boy down to but anyway like I said lots of drama lots of bitter words lots of a whole bunch of stuff that’s going on right now whether or not it has any impact long term on Ben Johnson remains to be seen same thing

With the commanders but in any case I figur this would be a good video to make for the second half of the day so with that being said I just want to say thank you all for watching another episode of MCM Motor City Mania if you like what

  1. All's I have to say is we should pay the man, he's doing a great job, we all have one goal, and um glad they are staying a complete group, can't wait till next season

  2. I have no inside info, but I read the tealeaves as Ben Johnson likes his work situation and something felt off to him with Washington. Owners, GM, roster? I can't even guess. But he didn't want to step in it.

  3. I mean really, who in their right mind would want to go to D.C and live near that crap hole. You have to worry every time you drive if you're going to make it home with your automobile or alive. Makes Detroit look civilized lol.

  4. Ben Johnson made the smart & right move. Both sides showed their true colors. BJ showed his commitment to the Lions, the culture we're building here, the players and even the fans. He's been up front & consistently says that we're not finished yet. The Commanders have been and still continue to be a dumpster fire. I know they have new ownership but the previous owner was so hated and reviled that he had to be removed by the league. Johnson seems to me that he's really intelligent in more than just designing an offense and calling plays!

  5. If ben Johnson wasn't what they wanted why did they exchange offers because the comment made was hes asking more than he's worth. When it was im in a good situation my family is happy and have a successfully built team and a great coach to learn from so if you want me pay what i ask

  6. This is part of that Big Culture Change in Lion's land. Guys that would normally jump into the HC position even with whatever restrictions they are choosing sticking around and theoretically taking less money. That's when you know you have A Great Environment and Great Ownership combined with Personnel whom also find the Environment a Winner. This is Also very New for Detroit Lions Fans. The talent wanting to Stay.

  7. I was at the Lions/49ers game. At pregame Ben Johnson was walking to the bench with no one else around yet. My brother and I yelled to him “hey Ben, one more year! One more year Ben!” He looked up at us and nodded his head yes! He did so so convincingly, I knew at that moment he was coming back! I believe he knew at that time.

  8. Washington is acting like a woman who tried to convince a guy to leave his wife, failed miserably, and tried to act like she rejected him.

  9. Somehow hiring another fired defensive coach will yield different results? One who botched the largest Super Bowl lead ever? At least Campbell only blew the biggest NFC championship halftime lead ever. (I'm still grousing) If you lived in VA like me, you wouldn't question what a screwy organization this (Washskinton) is.

  10. Ben had such a a bad first interview they decided to fly to Detroit in the middle of a snow storm??? Lol😅

Also it's not like the Sixers have been setting the world on fire with numerous bad 1st round picks and bad contracts..😮

  11. Remember young guns what Ben Johnson, did by pulling out. Unlike me, don't get me wrong, i love my kids, but truly i believe i wouldn't be bald or by relying on ms Clairol…im just saying 😅😅

  12. First I enjoy your YouTube channel. But who ever made the comment about owners being former NBA players now NFL owners having to know football is an idiot/ not bright. You don't need to be a player to be a owner for investment endeavors i.e. Robert Kraft, Jerry Jones, Sheila Ford Hamp etc… so this is a very gray topic that could blow up the wrong way… especially since the owners mention are Black and your wording regarding what Ben Johnson supposedly said about working for these Basketball guys. And I refuse to believe that they bought a basketball mentality to the sport of football no way they said that they're too intelligent you're talking about Magic Johnson the guy's a billionaire you don't make it to that level by making bonehead decisions. This is a Messy drama episode that could stir up a hornet's nest.
