I’ve got some of the most popular Golf Pride and lampin grips here we’re going to try them out figure out which ones give you the best grip the best traction but we’re not just going to try them out dry we’re going to try them out wet let’s Go hi everyone welcome to back to the channel hope you’re having a wonderful day so I’ve got eight different grips here four from Golf Pride four from lampion and I’m going to be testing these grips out today to see which ones give me the best traction which are the

Best grips that give me the best hold I’m going to be raiding each of them on a score from one to five but not only are we going to be trying these grips out dry cuz guess what sometimes your hand sweat sometimes it rains so we’re

Also going to be trying these grips out wet I’m going to spray each of these grips down with water towel them off quick and run the test run the comparison a second time and give them a second score so each of these grips is going to get a

Dry score and a wet score and at the end we’ll put everything together and hopefully this will give you a little better idea maybe of what grips you might want to be looking at for your next regrip all right so I’m going to alternate between Golf Pride and Lampkin

I’m going to be using the exact same golf club for every one of these we’re going to put all these grips on and take them off with pressed air so we’re going to use the exact same eight iron throughout this entire test first up we’ve got Golf Pride T velvet a classic

The most popular grip of all time when I’m thinking about these grips I’m really talking about or thinking about the softness of them what kind of texture they have on them and what kind of tackiness they have on them those are going to be the three things that I kind

Of think about that I think determines or mainly determines what kind of what kind of grip you get out of it so let’s hit a couple in the dry state with the tour velvet yeah this grip most popular grip in the game I think for I don’t know how

Many years but not a big surprise eyes it’s got a soft feel to it it’s got a good amount of texture but not an aggressive amount of texture and it has maybe a little bit of tackiness but not too much but the overall feel of it is

Just it’s just a really great overall golf grip it is hard to go wrong with the feeling you get from a tour velvet let’s hit one more dry dry score score on this one again we’re going between one and five I’m going to give this one dry score a five

I mean it does everything you want it to do I think it feels really good and yeah five all right let’s hose it down quick towel off and let’s hit some while it still feels a little bit damp let see what we get here so this grip still feels like it

Has a little bit of moisture on it I can still feel that there’s some water on it but I don’t think it has lost much at all in the way of how tacky it is how good good the grip is in my hands maybe just a fraction fraction more slippery but

Really the difference between dry and wet in this one I feel like is pretty darn close so I’m going to go ahead and give this one again a score of five five for dry five for wet Golf Pride t or velvet all right up second we’ve got

Lampkin crossline this is again a very classic grip it’s been around for a long time I think almost as long as the Golf Pride tour velvet very similar kind of design to it rubber grip has a similar sort of uh pattern to it similar texture biggest difference the white and black

Versus all black but pretty similar grip let’s hit a few dry see what we get now this lampin grip honestly when you compare it directly against that tour velvet it does feel slightly firmer the rubber is just a little bit harder uh and so it maybe doesn’t feel quite as

Tacky it doesn’t feel quite as grippy or uh what’s the word I’m looking for quite as much traction as with the tour velvet still pretty good but I do kind of feel like my thumb slides around a little bit more on it so let’s hit one more that was missed

But so very similar to The Golf Pride but feels a little little bit Slicker in my hand does not give me the same confidence dry that I got out of the Golf Pride tour velvet so this one I’m going to go ahead and just say four out

Of five still pretty good all right let’s hose this guy down it’s a pretty good shot right there yeah this one again pretty similar honestly not really a big change between it being wet and dry it is a little bit slipperier cuz it is a little wet but it was

Slightly slipperier to start with so I’m going to go ahead and just say since it was a four dry I’m going to just go ahead and say it’s wet score and give it a four again so lampin crossline dry score four wet score four okay next up Golf Pride tour wrap

Or tour wrap 2G this is sort of the updated version of the original tour wrap which has been around again or was around a very long time ago this one’s supposed to be a little softer give you a little bit more tack than the original

It does feel quite soft as far as any sort of texture to it other than the sort of uh depressions that you get in the wrap style here doesn’t really have much feels relatively Tacky in my hands as it’s dry so let’s see what happens with this guy

So I know this grip is still popular I know there are a lot of people who like this grip but uh but I am not one of those people already and let me just say I usually play with a glove but for this test to

Try and make these grips work as hard as possible I’m doing it without a a glove on but I can already tell as my hand starts to sweat a little bit because I’m nervous hitting in front of you all that it it’s not great the uh the grip I get

Out of this tour wrap is just shaky yeah I don’t uh yeah it’s not my favorite um Golf Pride tour wrap 2G dry score for me I got to give it a two it’s just it’s just not my thing all right I’m not sure how this is going to go now considering

Where my dry score was but Let’s Wet it down dry it off quick we’re going to hope I don’t fling this thing into my uh impact screen all right let’s see what we get here let’s it one more I’ll be honest that wasn’t great but it dries off

Surprisingly well and actually it feels like pretty much all the water was gone immediately from just that quick towel off and for those first 10 15 seconds actually felt really good really tacky now again after I held it a little longer same issues came up a little more

Hand sweat and it started to slip again but it was actually for that very short amount of time at the very beginning it did feel pretty darn tacky so you know what considering where it is versus the dry I might actually give this one I

Might it’s between a two and a three I’m going to go ahead I’m just going to say three the wet score on this one is a three conditionally only if you can get it really dry right before you hit it otherwise it’s going to be a two again

Or lower so okay next up we’ve got the Lampkin sonar plus wrap very similar overall to the tour wrap we just hit but if you look closely at it you can see it has this almost checkerboard pattern of just these little ridges in it and so you know you would think that maybe

That’ll give us a little better traction a little better grip versus that plain old tour wrap let’s see what happens here feels pretty good I do feel like it has a little bit more a little more texture to it maybe a little bit more grip to it so I do like that well

Now my hand starting to sweat again just a little bit and losing it just a little bit let’s hit one more all right this guy started out pretty good after my hand got a little bit of sweat on it I’m going to have to go and give this three as the dry score

Let’s Wet it down see what we get see if it it improves maybe it’ll improve like that t wrap did initially so we’ll kind of go under that expectation huh okay well this is interesting I’ll be honest with you I’m going to hit one more but it almost

Feels like the opposite thing has happened here versus that tour wrap yeah this is slipping a good bit so for some reason this guy actually wet is going in the opposite direction of the tour app it may be you know what honestly I think it might have to do

With these little tiny ridges that are supposed to give you better texture I don’t know if maybe the water is kind of getting trapped in these little crevices in here so that when I towel it off it doesn’t doesn’t quite get as dry but

When I put my hand on this club after I toweled it off it did not feel tacky at all it felt honestly like it was still kind of wet so I don’t love that uh the dry score we gave this one a three I got

To give the wet score a two on this one cuz doesn’t really feel great when it’s damp okay next up Golf Pride cp2 this is going to be feels a lot like the Lampkin sonar Plus w we were just hitting again it has the wrap on it also has some

Other lines but it’s a wrap but then it also has some extra little texture uh indented into the grip surface so again in theory we would think at least dry it’s going to give us a little bit better traction let’s see what happens on this one it’s a pretty good start

There that was a good swing but I do feel this grip starting to slip just a little bit so kind of kind of like what we got out of the previous Lampkin when it was really nice and dry felt really good however with a little bit of moisture

It’s starting to slip around just a little bit so I’m going to go ahead and give this one again the initial swing felt really good but by swings two and three it did start to get a little bit slick for me so we’re going to give this

Dry score Golf Pride cp2 three all right let’s see what we get in the wet State I can already tell you this feels like deja vu which is this reminds me a lot of that Lampkin we just tried the Lampkin sonar plus wrap and this Golf Pride cp2 are sort of

Going step for step yeah similar kind of thing dried it off but it doesn’t quite feel like it got fully dry and again I don’t know if it’s just these little tiny crevices in here that are catching and holding some of the water that you can’t quite get toed

Off quickly uh but it isn’t giving me that same tackiness even that the standard tour wrap gave when I initially toed it off so again wet score on this guy it’s going to be a two okay next up Lampkin this is again a sonar plus but instead of the

Wrap version this is the well straight or non wrap version this one does sort of have a combination of textures to it so it doesn’t have the spiral wrap feel to it but it does give you that checkerboard sort of uh impression down here at the

Bottom at the top it’s a little bit different pattern yeah I’m going to go ahead and just say this one is once again kind of tracking like both that Golf Pride cp2 and the Lampkin sonar plus wrap when it’s nice and dry it’s got good tacky

Feel to it and I don’t feel like it’s going to slip but by the second or third swing for me without a glove I can definitely feel it moving around in my hand a little bit so on this guy lampin sonar Plus Dry score again we’re going to give it a three I

Know what going to happen here in the wet state but we’re going to test it and make sure so let’s see what happens sonar plus wet yeah very wet very slippery uh yeah I don’t I don’t love this one this one maybe feels the slipperiest of everything we’ve done thus far I

Think uh again some something with these whatever you want to call them these little indentations these micro grooves uh I feel like they’re trapping a little bit of the water it doesn’t come out when we towel it off and it just stays kind of slippery and without the wrap style to

Give you a little bit more surface area to hold on to this one just kind of it just slips around a good bit so if you can keep it good and dry then yeah I think it’s got potential but once it gets wet this one yeah this

Isn’t my favorite we’re going to give this yeah we’re going to give this we’ll give it a one okay last up for Golf Pride we’ve got the MCC you’ve got a firmer corded section up here at the top and a softer basically More tour velvet section with some additional indentation some

Additional texturing down here at the bottom again super popular grip you see it all the time let’s see what we get out of this guy another one pretty good this one this one’s doing well not a big surprise anytime we bring cord into the equation that’s usually going

To be beneficial for anyone who hand sweat or if you play in damp conditions missed that one a little bit but still yeah this one really good texture really good uh traction on it I would say this guy this guy is what you want if your hands sweat honestly this is the

Kind of grip that makes sense uh so we’re going to go ahead and give this guy five all right let’s wet it down yeah moral of the story is here I think if your hands sweat if you’re worried about a grip slipping it’s hard to beat

A grip with some sort of cord in it because it just gives you a much better better texture just better traction on that grip so wet score on this guy we’re going to go five okay last up we’ve got the Lampkin St plus hybrid this is the 360 version of

It so you can see no matter how you turn it it looks the same again similar idea as the MCC grip where you’ve got this top portion that’s rougher it’s it’s not exactly a cord I don’t know exactly what it is but you don’t really see any cord

Running through it but it feels like a cord it has that same sort of texture to it so a rougher section up here a slightly softer you know tackier section down here again pretty comparable to that MCC at least in design let’s see what happens with this guy another pretty good one

There yeah this one performance-wise I would say very similar to that MCC a little low on the face but another good one yeah this one you know this is what you want first swing second swing third swing all basically felt the same similar feel similar texture similar

Traction in all three of them so this guy this Lampkin five for dry that was missed a little but I don’t feel any real slipping in this one again that cord style upper hand piece really gives you just a good grip on it yeah this guy again wet or dry pretty

Darn similar definitely gives you a good solid feel to it now full disclosure this is actually the grip that I’ve got on all my clubs right now so I I know what this grip’s about I’ve been using it for a while clearly I really like it

So uh dry score five wet score yeah five okay here are all the final scores the winners I have to say for me at least Golf Pride tour velvet Golf Pride MCC and the lamin St plus2 hybrid 360 grip that I tried out all three of those gave very consistent

Feeling shots to me both first second third shot and dry versus wet all the other grips were a little bit more of a mish mash as far as how they did dry versus wet and honestly the ones that had any sort of micro texturing in them

Really for me at least seemed to not do so well going from the dry to the wet so again remember if you’re playing in the desert if your hands don’t sweat if you play in the cold where these things aren’t really an issue then any of these

Grips are going to be good honestly I really like the feel of the sonar plus I like the feel of the cp2 when they’re perfectly dry it’s great or wearing a glove would probably be okay too but if your hands sweat if you’re playing in the summer if you’re playing in wet

Conditions or just a variety of conditions then I would probably lean towards either Again Tour velvet or one of these cord or cord equivalent type grips heck even the lamp and cross line honestly did pretty darn good in both dry and wet so there you go hopefully

  1. I took your advice on not building up the grips and had a decent overall first grip experience only screwed one up thanks for all your help in this area

  2. AJ: This is exactly what I've been looking for. I need to regrip my clubs. I have the GP TV midsize microsuade grips and love them. But, I was looking. You just can't find this type of information easily. So, thank you … I'm looking at $12 and change per MCC grip … and half that for TV. I know my choice now! Keep up the great reviews.

  3. Love Decade multicompounds but Golf Pride grips just don't last. Lamkin grips easily last 2x or more as long. Standard crosslines are indestructible. They last forever and you can blow them on and off, unlike most GP's.

  4. I was a Sonar/CP2 guy for the dry grip and soft feel. However in humid Texas, they just didn’t hold up like your test results. I love the Tour Velvet, but they seem to lose their tackiness much quicker than the MCC or others. So unless you’re always cleaning them, you may end up paying double to replace vs just paying double upfront for something like an MCC which is an excellent grip.

  5. You need to retest the first couple after your hands got sweaty and your towel is also damp after all the drying

  6. I live in Texas where it is hot and humid. They don't last as long as some of the others but Winn Dri-Tac grips and a two glove rotation work best for me.

  7. Great video AJ! I feel like the results were kinda predictable. Shiny grip is never going to be as good wet or dry. Wet glove would be even worse. For the record I noticed you may have had the CP2 on backwards but that shouldn’t affect the test.

  8. I have found the best grip security wet or dry is the Royal Sand Wrap or V-Sand Wrap.
Also the Crossline Full Cord is better than all of those

  9. You gotta do this test with a wet towel, cause I dunno about you but if I get caught in the rain, my towel gets wet right along with me, and the cart hoods and bag covers don't cover most of the towels. So I feel like they should be a little more wet than what a dry towel can really make the grips. Just a thought 🤔

  10. I'll take the Lampkin Crossline over the GP Tour Velvet any day. The Tour Velvet is fine if you don't mind wasting money, they wear out and get slick very quickly compared to the Lampkin Crossline grips.
