Concrete negotiations he’s the top Target number one for the right back position I asked Jan LCA the question what he’s expecting in the next seven days aside of that breaking news you’ve just given us what else are you expecting in the next week to happen in what’s been a fairly quiet transfer

League winners uh he’s still got a lot of good football ahead of him and the fact that they’ve been able to attract someone of his quality ahead of the Euros shows that West Ham can still mix it and compete on the highest stage when it comes to signing bigname players

Which absolutely Calvin Phillips is one of the key things to this was that Calvin Phillips had options we know that Juventus Atletico Madrid Barcelona Crystal Palace were all keen on getting his signature but when West Ham’s interest peaked that’s where Calvin Phillips said well actually that feels

Like the best fit for me so therefore West Ham are getting a player that wants to join David Moyes wants to join that setup in East London and interestingly enough actually he was a player that they were scouting whilst he was at leads the scouts had been watching

Calvin Phillips uh for some time he eventually got the opportunity to join Manchester City and you can understand why he didn’t want to go to West Ham at that stage because Pep Guardiola and and that group was obviously in the offing so therefore they’re getting a player

That they’ve been watching for a long period of time um he’s a leader on and off the pitch which is massive we know that David Moyers likes his captains likes his leaders likes people that he can trust out there on the field of play Great Character great person personality

Someone that’s hugely po popular in both the England and Manchester City dressing rooms so he brings that profile and that gravitas and that ability to lead as well in terms of the David Moy Moyes style he’s very much the the right type of midfielder they were looking for a

Six someone that can link the play someone that can turn Defenders someone that’s got a fantastic ability when it comes to their passing so I think when you look at this David Moyes and West Ham will be sat back right now going this ticks every single box we’ve got a

Really really exciting player in this January window which is so tough to get good players through the door this is perfect for us yeah Andy um Mark just reeled off those European Giants who showed an interest are you surprised he’s not ended up somewhere on the continent not really Mike because

Honestly I don’t think any of them could afford him uh you look at Atletico they’ve got given a little bit of latitude from the fact they got8 million euros off the run on lordy deal who he left for Mar last summer um Juventus is still recovering from the Cristiano

Ronaldo bill which are still they’re still paying um PSG would have been interested but again it was just too much for them to do on a on a temporary basis in in January they’ve gone the younger route with Gabriel moskado who won’t arrive until summer so so whereas

I would have loved to see him in those sort of environments it does feel like West Ham are the best fit like financially and sporting wise and I think if you look at the advanced numbers with West Ham as well they probably should have conceded more goals

In the Premier League this season I mean you know they took the odd beating like at Fulham for example but that defense has look really quite exposed for most of the season if you’re wondering what stopping getting them towards the top bracket of the Premier League not the

Top top bracket but the the top six it’s the defense and Calvin Phillips can really help with that they’ve become very reliant on Edson Alvarez who’s been great actually since arriving from Max very quickly and they can’t do that because we’ve seen with a couple of key

Always a bit of brinkmanship and a bit of slowburn in the January transfer window as Mark was saying you struggle to find that value but I think there are going to be these moments in this last week where players are like you know what I need a game if I’m going to play

In the summer and need a game you know the other point you made about the finances for Calvin Phillips being quite difficult to do I think the issue was he was on a list for a number of clubs not really top of the list but on the list

So no one was really moving whereas with West Ham and David Moyes because he wanted him so severely in 2020 there was already that backlog of work that had been done on him both in terms of the due diligence but also the fact that Phillips knows that this is a manager

That really rates him that likes what he does that knows how to extract what he does and make the most of it so I I think the finances definitely were an issue but also the fact that no one was really moving he knew there was a lot of

Interest out there but West Ham were the ones that were like right we want you we’re going to make it happen I think people don’t realize that sometimes that you create this relationship with a player and their Entourage not that this deal will happen now not that it will
