I bought a full set of these blacked out irons for £65 so what’s wrong with them in this video I want to show you exactly how you can take advantage of these certain iron brands do these certain irons have a very low resale value due to Performance

Or is it other underlying factors and lastly if you find these certain irons for extremely cheap price tag how do you even know if they’re actually going to to suit your game over the last four years we have seen a great rise in golf direct to Consumer iron Brands they cut

Out a lot of the middlemen and that means more affordable equipment to the everyday golfer but with all that stripping back of infrastructure and marketing does that then cause a lack of faith and trust from the everyday golfer that’s trying to start this game or upgrade his irons well on a budget well

Considering secondhand Cali away package set irons go for more than these direct to Consumer irons it certainly would look that way but here’s the good news if you don’t care what badge is on the back of your set of irons and your main concern is performance and potentially

Looks then I think what I’m about to show you is probably of Interest now for the same reason that these go for next to nothing is potentially the same reason that there is a massive disadvantage with them but I have got two other options in terms of direct to

Consumer Market that gets you that crashing price but potentially a few more Alternatives now this is the first time of me hitting a Cali iron and I’m ready to put it through its Paces because when I saw these irons posted on Facebook locally to me with a price tank

Of £65 for the whole set of irons I honestly thought the price was too good to be true but after looking through eBay recently sold and these are the oldest model of Cali irons the X irons I was quite stunned to see the regular price that these irons go for and

Virtually the reason that inspired this whole video now big shout out to reys who actually watches the channel I turned up at his door and he recognized me and I said thank you because these are now inspired a whole new video but I did ask a very important question why

Are you getting rid of these irons and his answer was a great insight into why potentially these irons in particular have crashed in price but also why so many director consumer ones do as well because as a side note and performance 92 mph 171 carry decent launch decent

Spin I didn’t even really hit that out in the middle I mean for the value I’m about to show you these different sets go for I mean that’s pretty much up there but for the same reason I get so many messages from people’s secondhand bags that they’ve built them themselves

Questions is this regular Flex right is this head type right do I need a thicker grip do I need a combo set the list goes on the point is even top brand manufacturers of irons tailor made titless Callaway fit for their irons with state-of-the-art technology amazing Club Fitters and even then there’s

Questions in golfer minds are these actually right for me you put those questions in the mix to direct to Consumer brands that don’t have custom fitting availability apart from demoing maybe one iron you can’t really test them yourself how do you know what shaft you need how do you know what length how

Do you know what grip and considering what I only perceive the main majority of customers that these director consumer iron brands have are well mid to high handicappers looking to save a bit of money on their first or maybe upgraded iron set 224 yard carry well that’s only going to

Fuel the fire of doubt in a lot of golfers minds thinking are these actually as good as they say they are but that’s only one reason why I think these particular irons and other director consumer iron Brands actually crash in price once you take the wrapper

Off them but before we get into that I probably should put this to bed iron technology faces head designs you name it has well Flatline for quite a considerable amount of time however I’m not going to stand here and lie to you guys saying that there’s no difference between this that’s had

Multiple Millions pounds of R&D research materials testing is no better than something like this the bigger question is how much better is it for that everyday golfer versus the amount of money that they’re investing into their game and that’s why I’m going to be doing a lot of secondhand Club

Fitting testing in the studio for the channel so hopefully get some of those answers now C you’ve got a new range of C irons which I’ve yet to test and before we go into the prices of the the other direct consumer Brands here the prices are these ones and some negatives

These ones never had graphics on the irons they came in stiff and regular but as you can see I couldn’t possibly tell you therefore if you bought these secondhand you have to rely on the person that’s selling them to you to actually tell whether they’re r or stiff

A side point for a lot of you golfers that love the look of blacked out irons but also love a very steep swing into the ground sadly no matter what brand what iron this isn’t cie’s fault metal doesn’t come in Black they for it’s always going to have that lining and if

You scrape that lining your eyes are going to look quite chewed up negatives to one side this is a full set of four to pitch in wedge averaging online from 100 to2 200 so who would actually benefit from well these These are what I like to call in the serve the purpose

Price range golf clubs no matter what age whether it’s your ping g2s go for 90 to1 your tail Ade burner lcg irons go for for around £80 to 90 these are sets of irons that people just want to go and play the game of golf and these right

Here very much are in this price category and the other two options again a virging on that serve the purpose range as you would imagine these are heavily offset very chunky and have this new Hollow back look and Aesthetics that everyone seems to want nowadays but if

Someone came to me and just started the game of 36 hasn’t broken 110 yet and picked up this set of irons for £150 would I say that’s an awful decision no if I had a client that plays off 9 10 11 12 low mid- handicap range

And wants a set of irons for his holiday home away would I say that’s an awful decision no if you have a massive fade or a massive draw would I say these are a horrible option at 100 to1 150 no the point is these director consumer Brands don’t

Have the hype or following just like the bigname brands meaning they get to the serve the purpose range quicker and because iron technology is flatlined for so many years do I really think that average golfer that just wants to get out and play in those certain situations with something that looks decent really

Going to lose out all that much probably not for the price tag that they’re paying the first director consumer brand that’s not k is Tacomo I did a full review on that old irons a lot of you actually got that a lot of my clients have got those Tacomo irons and I really

Referred it very much to the Ping I 500 the upside of Tacomo is there’s a lot more choice on eBay especially when it comes to secondhand sets and again with C there just wasn’t that much when these do pop up they go for next to nothing if

You do want something a bit more particular a bit more unique sub 70 is a great brand when it comes to secondhand value Nick’s a great Club fitter and builds all the stuff in the UK and obviously I appreciate subsy has different places in different countries with different Fitters and Builders you

Name it but he knows his stuff built very well and because there’s that variation of different people getting fitted for them finding one with a stiff Flex one degree flat length is just going to be more Choice out there however there’s some of you that won’t want direct consumer and you all want

Some of the most underrated IR for mid- handicap golfers that are going for a great value in 2024 and if that’s the case this video up here on the right side catch guys later

  1. I did try these and couldn't fault them to be honest. I've stumbled across a set of Callaway fusion wide sole and they are phenomenal. Traditional lofts, bulky , forgiving and feel amazing.$1200 at launch. Bought them for £100 and Regripped them. Really excited for 2024.

  2. Had a set of caleys for a while, when I upgraded they took a while to sell, ended up trading them and a few other things in at my local golf shop for a few new toys for myself. The owner was sat on them for a short while until someone came in, saw them and really wanted to try them and got them at a good price. Need the buyer to know what they are and they'll go, but will be sat on them for a while

  3. i only buy secondhand irons! as they are cheap i sell them right away if they arent right fit! i know i sould get fit and get some maybe "better tier" irons. But you can find pretty good irons for you, with this method! too bad i live in Finland so the market for second hand clubs is much smaller here!

  4. Great vid well done. Whist watching it I had a thought. 12 years ago whilst looking to upgrade my irons and after a lot of research and hitting, I went for custom fit KZG forged. Brilliant clubs, creamy and a great club. However as you will know they don’t hold their price. Over the next few years a few mates also got into KZG after trying mine. I still have the clubs but leave them at my Sisters house so I can play without lugging a set of clubs…… I use Muira these days but would love to hear what you would think of a comparison between both OEMs

  5. I personally started with Stix. Wasn't disappointed with them, they worked great for a brand new beginning golfer. After a year to 2 of playing, I upgraded when I got fitted. Not sure that it was really an upgrade.

  6. Let's be honest, the price of golf clubs is an absolute rip off. The most important part when buying golf clubs is the shaft & the head. Must of been about 20 years ago I I used a £90 set of Pinseeker irons & shot 5 or 6 over gross, I was using Mizuno T-Zoid XV Oversized at the time. I also tested a set of Slazenger CB irons again £90 & they were better than my Callaway X Tours at £500. The reason was the shaft suited me better on both cheaper sets & I could feel the weight of the head.

  7. The big brands aren't better, the tech fallacy is just smoke and mirrors which you always feed into by the back door, saying that a Driver costing £500 is good value at £250 s/h is good value etc. 99% of golfers change their swing about 3x a round , most fitters are useless and have about 10mins experience. The whole industry is a con.

  8. Great video, as always.

I got fitted summer 2022 and used the data to custom build some Haywood Signature irons. Played those up until Thanksgiving 2023 when I stumbled upon a used set of Titleist AP1’s in almost the exact same specs!

I’ll probably never sell these Haywood’s, they’re fantastic clubs!

  9. Best golf i ever played was with old wilson deep reds…if you remember them… admittedly i was 20 years younger as well.

  10. honma TR21X irons are the biggest bargain on the used market , everything is made in japan , not China , mexico or Veitnam, and is therefore top quality . A full set of irons with gapper wedge is about 500 blabs .

  11. Look at how many of the big brands ram home the word “technology” in their ads. Spend £300 to £500 over the odds to get yourself 5 more yards.

  12. I have a set of Caley irons and I've been very pleased with them, cost me more than £65 a couple of years ago though. Considering changing them out but only for custom fitted as i want to go for a lighter graphite shaft, otherwise would stick with them until they wore out.

  13. The top hyped brands have gotten out of control re price. Good to throw some more compettion into the mix. Most, if not all of those with a 25 HC won't notice much difference in clubs from 5 yrs ago. AND 5 yrs ago, remember that technology enabled the top pros to win and play sub par games of golf. $ for lessons better investment for 25HCs.

  14. My local 'Cashconvertors' has a set of Callaway xl12 irons with carbon shafts and new grips. They look minted – £79……

  15. The only black irons I would ever consider buying would be the Cobra King Forged MB/CB irons from a few years ago, the black color was impregnated into the metal, so they hold up very well.
