The Cobra dark speed lineup has been out for a couple of weeks now we’ve tested them and I have one problem with these drivers let’s find Out before we start taking a look at these three driver models make sure that you are a subscriber to the channel hit the button just down here become a free subscriber let’s get stuck into this review so the dark speed lineup consists of three drivers and the name dark speed

Comes from there is only one thing faster than light that being dark I’m not quite sure on that one but hey ho that’s marketing as we look at these drivers there is a little bit of difference in all three heads firstly we have the max head which is the ultimate

In forgiveness this is aimed at a player who maybe has a slower swing speed has a higher handicap and struggles with a centered strike it features a weight at the back and it also features a weight down at the heel aimed at altering that slice and straightening your ball flight

Out we then go to the dark speed X which is the middle of the road probably the driver that a lot of people or most people would aim towards two weights in this one one at the front one at the back compared to the max head shape it’s

A little bit more pear shaped a little bit more traditional it’s not as flat and hugging towards the ground then we get into the LS which is where Cobra are saying the biggest difference is because this head is designed to be the fastest head cobra have ever

Made I mentioned the problem and when we actually look at the drivers in terms of looks I think personally it’s the best one that they’ve released they’ve gone from Captain America’s driver in the Aero jet last year to actually coming up to something like what Batman would use

And we all know Batman’s pretty cool it looks sleek it looks stealth the matte black finish the only thing that we’re seeing different from each driver is a slightly different color tone on the base of the drivers the Max has a red one the X has a blue one and the ls is

All blacked out in terms of looking down on the golf ball the crown gives off a matte sort of look so behind the golf ball it looks a little bit duller and in the sun it actually doesn’t glare a lot which is great because I’ve tested these

Golf clubs back here in England where the sun doesn’t shine and I’ve also had them out in Spain where the Sun was shining and it was great to see that there wasn’t a load of glare off the club head and actually seeing that you could still focus on the golf ball when

Putting behind it the three models in terms of size when we look at the max this is the biggest one the footprint looks the largest it hugs the ground the most at the back when we move up to the ls model which is this aerodynamic model you can see a visible difference it

Feels like the heel side the toe side really sits up off the ground and the back to the front of the driver feels a lot more compressed and it gives that real pear shape off from this look compared to the max as well it looks a

Lot smaller but again this is the driver the ls one that is designed for Speed and designed for that player who is confident who is finding the middle so you would probably expect that from a driver of that category even when we look at the head cover smart Sleek all

Blacked out a nice leather head cover and it just looks mean it looks like a player Golf Club these even the max one when you get them in behind the golf ball it screams to me a bit of I know what I’m doing I’m going to hit this

Driver well in terms of technology in the driver heads that cobra have putting to make the dark speed the fastest release we see some similarities from previous drivers we see the hot face now that has featured in previous models that is in all three models we also see

The power Bridge featuring all these so these are just designed to maximize ball speed when we get the off-centered hits and they feature in all three of the models it’s the ls that is slightly different in that it does have the more aerodynamic shape that I’ve just alluded

To and you see that from how Compact and how high it sits up so with this one the ls you should should be seeing the fastest Club head speeds out of all three of them in terms of price we’re seeing that it’s cheap compared to other

Big models coming in at 429 now when Cobra took the market by storm with that F9 driver we’re not seeing that it’s quite that price but nothing is anymore these days 349 those drivers came out at and even the subsequent release of that the speed zone the SZ I think that was

Around the 37 £9 Mark keep that SZ in mind as well for later on in the video so before we put those claims to the test and see if it is the fastest driver that cobra have released I actually wanted to get a look of these out on the

Golf course I wanted to see if I could notice if I was swinging it faster if I was getting more distance if I was really seeing a big difference between LS to Max so I’ve had them out now on the course quite a bit to be fair

Because I wanted to give these a good run through we took them to Spain I hit a lot of shots out there I’ve had them on the course at Warrington in the simulator and initial thoughts the max it’s doing what it says it is forgiving it felt very easy to launch which I

Think from last year’s driver in the a road yet I said that that they’d really made a driver that was just simple to use and I think that has carried on into the dark Speed Max it got up there tow heel strikes it felt good I didn’t see

Huge drop offs I didn’t see really wild ball flights and that’s pretty much what you want from a Max driver you want consistency you want forgiveness you’re not looking for maximum distance you’re looking for maximum forgiveness when we get to the X driver this one I like this one because

I felt that I didn’t hit it quite as well as I did the max I started with the max moved into the X and I felt like I was hitting it worse than I was the max but it didn’t feel wild it felt like it was doing a good job of keeping the

Ball flight pretty consistent on my toe on my heel strikes I wasn’t seeing loads of carve I wasn’t seeing loads of drop off in distance and what I was also seeing was more distance from the centered strikes than I did with the max it felt long it felt Speedy but it also

Felt like it had that that combination of forgiveness there it’s a different story when we move into the ls now Cobra are going for speed here and I think the Forgiveness aspect is coming in these two drivers the ls it was wild like I hit some shots

That I thought oh that’s okay looked up and it was going sidewards like it wasn’t a a really wild strike and even with that more compressed head I felt like had to really focus in on the centered strike when I got it out of the middle I didn’t feel like I was doing

Much more than I was doing with the X I didn’t feel like I was 10 yards longer 15 yards longer I didn’t feel like I was two three four 5 miles per hour quicker with the swing what I felt like was everything I did with the ls driver was

In a drive or a mind frame of trying to keep it under control because yes when you got some out the middle it did have length like the X does but I just had to really try and rain it in to try and find that I was actually getting it

Somewhere in play so overall really from a most forgiving to longest and maybe most unruly they are doing what they are saying on the tin also like I said earlier I think they look fantastic especially when you’ve got it out behind the golf ball it looks great and even

The feel and the sound of them I think Cobra really got a good sounding driver they’ve had that for many a year now it’s always sounded it sounds daed it sounds like the carbon is there and you know about it so initial testings the Max and the X

They impressed me they were doing what they said on the tin the X especially was standing out as top of the class that’s on the green that the Ls I’m yet to feel that it is doing what Cobra said and being the fastest driver so it was time

To test that we wanted to get some data in the studio to find out what actually the numbers are saying on these three drivers so we’ve got some data on these drivers and I’ve hit quite a lot of shots because I wanted to get an understanding of where each one sits and

To see if this LS is the fastest driver that cobra have produced I also mentioned at the start of the video that there was a problem I’ll get to that but firstly if we look at the max like I said out on course this was doing what I expected it to do

It was forgiving I was getting okay distance and I was getting good dispersion in terms of ball speed it was the slowest 162 mph the spin was a good spin number 2,400 and the carry number 286 so this is round about where I would normally carry my driver to in terms of

Of Club head speed what we were seeing is that it was 113 mph1 remember that when we move into the X model and like I said earlier this is the one that is top of the class for me on the course good dispersion felt long

Felt quick and I saw a gain when we actually put this up against the max 1063 mph ball speed for a 292 yd carry so that’s 6 yards longer and a mile hour faster the club head speed 1134 so we’ve got3 of a mile hour faster when we get into the ls

Model 166 mph ball speed got Faster by 3 mph well 2 and a half from the x 2,000 spin same as the X carry distance 298 yards so six yards longer Club head speed 113 mil hour6 so it is2 of a mile per hour faster than the X

Driver and that leads me to my problem I mentioned the Cobra SZ driver earlier Fant fantastic driver the F9 really took the market by storm in the F9 we saw one model in the SZ we saw two models a Do-it all model and a more forgiving

Model and that is the problem with Cobra I think at the moment or this driver in particular the ls model I don’t really get who this is going to be for because yes you’ve got Kyle Burkshire on staff and you used to have Bryson Des Shambo

And we were looking the you know you had two of the fastest players in the world to get the speed but for me the general public doesn’t need that the x is that good it delivers the distance it delivers the club head speed it delivers the right Spin and it delivers the

Dispersion and forgiveness why would you even bother with the ls why just not go back to two models being the X and the max have your weights here maybe put two weights in the X up at the front so if you really want to crank it low do that

And then leave the ls as maybe a long drive model that you might see Kyle burer use but isn’t generally used in the general public for the golfing public because I don’t think they’ll sell that many of them as where put the X in people’s bag whether you’re a five

Handicapper a 15 handicapper it’s going to be great for you but if you’re a bit higher you might want to go for the max driver but for me this X driver is just the singing the dancing package so why distort people’s Vision with the ls it

Was a little bit faster it lived up to its claim but 02 of a m per hour and 6 yards is it worth it for the general public I would probably say no so for me a great driver release fantastic looking the x is doing everything but do you

Need the ls I don’t I just don’t think so I think that’s a driver that stays on tour or on the long drives and sits there the X can literally do everything it is it is really really good and it has impressed me guys I hope you’ve

Enjoyed that and I hope it’s clarified those releases up for you a little bit more remember to subscribe to the channel and we’ll see you in another review very soon

  1. Totally agree, LS models are a waste of time for 95% of golfers. I’ve read that even McIlroy has a watered down version of the QI 10 LS. Say no more.

  2. I believe shaft selection now is the biggest upgrades 😅 but i Just got a Dark speed ls with hzrdus hulk haha. On gc3 it was averaging 191mph ball 9mph up on my tsr3. Dispersion much the same for me it should be good.

  3. I had the ltdx ls was a great driver so tried the new darkspeed ls and wow that thing was hard to tame. Got the AI smoke triple D and love it, even with 14 weight forward so much easier to hit and drives were long

  4. Hi Matt
I own a Cobra LTDx driver, so how does the new range compare.
Most golfers are keeping clubs longer due to the stupid pricing from the manufacturers.
I would like to see reviews or comparisons of each manufacturer, i.e., all the max heads.

  5. Matt has one of the smoothest driver swings I’ve ever seen, but gets huge distance. I, on the other hand, swing like I’m trying to split the world in half but never see 250yards 😢

  6. I tried the ls the other day and I actually thought it was pretty forgiving. I'm not the best ball striker but I thought it was pretty great. The spin was extremely consistent as well

  7. I still game my F9 model and very happy with it… I still outdrive most of the guys with their latest driver…. If not broken why fix 😊… I will not change my driver any near..

  8. For me the LS was the best. I liked the sound and the soft feel of the face. Also liked the smaller head. What the Cobra fitter said to me, is that the 9* LS is 440 CC and the 8* LS is 435 CC. I hit both 8 nad 9* LS good. But the spinn with the 8* was to low and could cause problems, even that I had a peak height at 114 ft with both the 8 and 9* heads. But I didn't see the ball speed that I got with the LTDX LS 9*.

  9. I have the dark speed max and is miles better than my old cobra speed zone extreme so more forgiving which gives me confidence to go at it 😎😎👍👍

  10. Tried the x and i was hitting shorter than my last years aerojet, dont care what it looks like the aerojet is just better for me

  11. I think they make 3 heads, purely because everyone else does. I agree 100%, lower the number of heads and make 2 that were GREAT

  12. I'm in complete agreement, I don't think there's a place in the golfing retail market for low spinning drivers from any manufacturer. The percentage of amateurs that could actually use one must be so small, I don't understand why they would invest in producing them?!

  13. Yes Matt, Plenty of testers have found the LS longer and better dispersion. Give it a bit more time , you change your mind. Why would anyone give up the yards, and ball speed.
The LS off the toe is fabulous, so good. So you don't have to be hitting center , but I like to live there and a few off the toe goes as far in the fairway. Rethink it . Cheers Matt .

  14. Just got the Darkspeed LS. My swing speed is 98 mph. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong but the sweet spot feels like it's as big as a tennis racquet. Anything out on the toe has almost no loss. Independant robot testing is showing the same data.

  15. I really wanna get one of these I love the look of them and cobra gotta be my favorite brand been playing the same cobra bafler blade 2 since I started playing when I was like 12 hand me downs from my dad can't really afford to get a new set

  16. What I would like to see is a comparison between these drivers and the Cobra Speedzone and the Cobra Speedzone extreme. I bet the SZ goes just as far and a similar with forgiveness. I own both of the speedzones they were incredible drivers. Probably should’ve kept them too. A lot of the new drivers are just type, when you look at the numbers and the clubhead speed‘s from past years even going back seven years some of the older clubs at 110 or 115 mph whatever the YouTuber is swinging at the drives were further and dispersion comparable. And the price was a lot more reasonable compared to today. In Canada most of these new drivers are costing almost $900 with tax. Is that necessary? I have two drivers that are a few years old, Callaway Epic Max LS and 2017 Taylormade M1. I’ve tested a lot of the new drivers from the last 3 to 4 years and I have yet to find one that is significantly better that warrants spending all that money. I agree with you wholeheartedly with your assessment on these drivers. Toss the LS.

  17. Dont give total distances when hitting into a screen, its ridiculous. Suddenly everyone on YT is hitting bryson distances with ball speeds 30 MPH less. Its total horseshit. Not one single person is hitting less than 330 suddenly, with a swing speed of 113? Sorry, not going to be even anywhere near that on the golf course. 265 – 280 perhaps

  18. Pretty much all drivers go around the same distance due to restriction limits for nearly 15 years ,so cobra designed a driver called the LS that goes the same distance as every other driver more or less but isn’t very accurate.doesn’t seem like much of a good idea .

  19. Just got my hands on the x version. Can’t wait to get it down the range, especially after this video. 👍

  20. Every single reviewer has struggled with the name…I thought it was obvious it’s a reference to dark matter and black holes, where the gravitational pull is so strong that even light cannot escape

  21. The reason they have 3 heads is simple Matt: all the big companies have 3 heads, in fact some have 4. So if Cobra want to be considered part of the Callaway, TM, Ping, Titleist club… they feel 2 heads won’t convey that message

  22. Love the look of this driver, and would be my choice when if I was in the market this year.

Wish all three were all blacked out with a silver/white Max, X, or LS.

I think we’re so accustomed to getting what the pros have cobra have felt they’ve got to offer the LS to the consumer market.

  23. I picked up the 8 degree LS which I play down at 7. I have it paired with a Ventus Black 6x. I LOVE it. I am coming from a stealth 2 plus same loft, and I find the cobra much easier to turn over, more forgiving off the toe, and as you said.. just looks mean. There is something about a driver that your excited to hit that makes you swing better. I am happy with my purchase. I prefer the sound of the Stealth 2 but really love the Cobra

  24. Excellent review! Makes sense to have 2 versions, but people want choices and there is a need to cater to ego.
