My mom is a very strong woman. At 14 years old, my mom got on a boat by herself in London where she lived to go to New York City. Very strong woman. My wife, Irish outspoken, very strong woman. My sister has a point of view. My daughter, again, opinionated.

I just have a lot of very strong women in my life. And I have throughout the course of my life, I’ve had women who are bosses on the set with me, always have a strong opinion, always thoughtful. And so I would just be as a man, I it

Would be horrifying to be outraged by 25 seconds of Taylor Swift. How would the women in my life react to me and view me? Now, some guys grow up with brothers only without a sister. You know, maybe dad’s the force in their life, not mom. They’ve never had a female boss.

They’ve never had. They haven’t had the opportunities I have. But I’ve just happened to have a very strong European mother who came over on a boat by herself to New York. Strong sister, strong, outspoken wife, daughter to big opinions. You’re going to know about him and just the women

I’ve worked with in media in my life. So that’s been my life. That’s been my reality is I’ve had strong women and I and I don’t know why this is psychologically. I’m not Freud, obviously, but it does matter what women think of me. It does matter what my daughter, my wife, my sister.

It matters what women think of me. It’s not an appearance thing. I know what I look like. I’ve got a mirror. But it does matter that they don’t think I’m a lunkhead and a meat head. And I think if you’re getting upset over 25 seconds of video, over 3.5 hours, you over it.

We put guys on sports all the time. I remember very famously in the 80s, it was a real thing. The NBA had this marketing campaign. It was really cool and it was famous people. It’d be like Rob Lowe or who still, by the way, looks 28 and Jack Nicholson and it was NBA.

It’s fantastic. And they would go to Laker games and they would show celebrities. And it was cool that the late siskel and Ebert would be at a Bulls game. And we’ve had all these male figures and it’s OK, guys, if women like sports too, I don’t care if they’re

Dating a player, who cares? You know, I’ve always felt this about sports. Hey, man, you’re a casual, I’m a sportscaster. I’m a casual outside of the NFL. I’m a casual. I love my life. I like my sports, and I try to bring that perspective every day.

I don’t to go down these tunnels and rabbit holes and be if you want to hear a crazy person, go have a beer with your buddy and watch a game. That’s not my job. I want to be the judge sitting atop with a gavel and listen to the prosecutor and the d.a.

And that’s how I sort of view my role in this whole thing is I want to come in. You know, we all have biases, but kind of agenda free. And this is how I view the game. So I guess my takeaway on, on Taylor Swift was and I didn’t

Really watch a lot of the feedback I tried to stay off that stuff. I don’t want to know if it’s too good or too bad. I don’t think Dennis Miller used to have a great line. You’ll get arrogant if your feedback’s too good and you’ll get insecure if it’s too bad.

So I don’t care. But I do think what’s amazing about sports is I want more people under the tent because when I was a kid and I was a sports fan, I never understood people that got into soap operas like I understood sitcoms and Mary Tyler Moore, mash cheers anytime

You can make people laugh. Could be Johnny Carson. Letterman, leno. It doesn’t matter. That’s good. But I never understood people that were so loyal to pretending. And I always felt like all the real stuff is sports. How do you not like sports?

And I grew up in a family that nobody liked it except me. So when Russell Wilson went to the Seahawks and Pete Carroll and they won, my sister finally liked sports and I thought it was so cool. She’s like, oh my god, I’m getting nervous. The two minute drive and I’m like,

My sister’s using football terms. So that was it was a really important part of this sort of growth. As a sportscaster. There’s nobody in my family’s ever liked sports and my wife. Similarly, I’ve never been involved with people who care about sports much, but I love when they’re under the tent

And they get nervous and anxious. And I’m like, you don’t get this with sitcoms. You don’t get this. This is real life. It’s so wonderful. And we should just open our arms to everybody and let them in. This is so much fun and these athletes care so much

And they make a lot of money, but they play through pain. They they play hurt. They Lamar Jackson’s crying when he loses. How do you not love these guys? How do you not love this stuff? And I’ve thought about I tell my wife this all the time.

I don’t want to retire and go play golf and be removed from people. I want to be around young people. I want to laugh. I want to cry. And there’s an old saying in the news business. It was in broadcast news. I was talking to an old friend, Jim Snyder, who’s a newscaster

In Las Vegas yesterday. We were texting back and forth, and there was a line because the news business is so hard and you see so much death and pain that there’s a line in broadcast news, get out of news while you can still cry because it numbs you. Sports never numbs me.

I can’t wait for the next game. I can’t wait to watch Jim Harbaugh with the Chargers. I can’t stand what’s going to happen in September, October, November and politics. I don’t want any part of it. Negative, angry, accusatory, conspiracy driven. Yuck news is sad. Politics is weird and Tribal sports is amazing.

So a beautiful, talented girl dates a superstar and she loves. My wife doesn’t like sports. She’s from Detroit. The Lions were losers her whole life. My wife’s going crazy Sunday. She’s literally calling me swearing because she’s at a different place than I was. We’re texting for an hour straight.

And I loved every second of it. Invite people into the tent. It’s so rewarding. It’s so amazing. If you landed on this planet and you didn’t know what sports was, I would say it’s totally unscripted. I was absolutely sure Kansas City was going to lose. I can’t believe the Lions are good.

Michigan’s now way better than Ohio State. The best basketball players are from Europe. You never know what you’re going to get. And to me, it keeps you young. Politics, ages. You news. Ages you. Sports keeps you young. Let’s just be happy. People love it as much as we do. Good for Taylor Swift.

Matthew McConaughey. Eminem Drake. Bradley Cooper. I love seeing Bradley Cooper at Eagles games. It’s like this famous actor who’s doing duets with lady gaga bleeds Green. God, he cares so much for the Eagles. He’s so irrational. This talented, brilliant actor is so absurdly irrational for the Eagles. God, I love that.

  1. Colin scored big time here with this take which is probably his greatest moment in his shows history. I have followed Colin since Sports Nation and normally agree with his logic and approach, though sometimes he has a stinker. That said, you cant deny Colin is always real. Hes not paid to be objective or bias. Man, what a great moment for Colin and sports.

  2. We know why they are doing this – it's because she is THE most popular music star among young non- AND probably-nots voter age people. She DID support Biden in 2020. And almost certainly will later this year. The Chiefs are huge, their fans are many around the country. Some just because of her. Trump strategists are smart enough to know that running interference of any kind – like a conspiracy – will cleave back whatever number of votes that were going to follow to Biden. And content is all they need to vomit it back out to their hate-seeking consumers.
Just another example of why they cheat – cause they have to.

  3. Spot on. When a superstar like her is LITERALLY shown for a TOTAL of 25-30 secs in 3.5 hrs….the outrage is NOT about how much she's on. Then what's their outrage REALLY about??? At this point I'm not sure if it's got as much to do with her as it does the Chiefs 🤷 People HATE the most successful, especially in sports. The jealousy and envy is unbelievable

  4. Spike Lee had more air time in one game than Taylor Swift had for the entire season and he actually was interacting with players. Especially with Reggie Miller. But he was criticized by every body, even by Knicks fans. So as a 49er fan, stopped critizing Taylor Swift because I don't want Kelce going off for 200 yards and 3 touchdowns😂😂😂😂

  5. leagues that are about growth get this. grow the tent. grow it as big as world football is. go nfl. go nba. we'll see if the msl gets it. it seems like the nhl (for example) is slow in getn it. leagues that attract casual fans are successful. and the 3rd spot on the us sports hierarchy is imo up for grabs. mlb is hangin on – but at least they seem to know what's at stake and are a being proactive. you need the casual fan. it actually will make the sport u love better – attracting better and better talent, better arenas, better product, bigger spectacle. the more …the merrier.

  6. My mom is 92 and she said K.C. Is better than Baltimore, and Detroit was the fourth best team. I said I like Baltimore. Well she is a Packers fan but she loves Mahommes . Never go against mom. She says KC is gonna win I believe.

  7. This segment is the perfect example of why the Pat McAfee Show has displaced commentators like Colin. The CONTINUOUS virtue signalling from weak little men like Colin and so many others is nearly as off-putting as their actual sports commentary. Your time is over. Places like Outkick and Barstool have displaced you, and ESPN has been dying a slow death for over a decade. Soon, Pat will leave ESPN because they need him more than he needs them, and the network will finally be dead.

  8. Taylor being used to create the "men hate to see women succeed" narrative. Then, Michelle will announce her run for president, get endorsed by Swift, and play off the womanizer narrative to try to beat Trump. The left is too predictable. Many of you NPCs are already taking the bait.

  9. It's the fact that Swift is an outspoken liberal that she's not liked. Nothing more. Half the country hates her. Nothing you can do to change that. Oh well.

  10. How about supporting the medical bills of poor former players? Chump change for a multi millionaire each year profiting off of a romance with a current player. Leave a respectful tip please and help a few old players out! Not me.

  11. How does being “opinionated” make anyone strong? It may make you a nutcase.
Even my dog has an opinion and it is not what makes him strong/weak.

Colin just in case you did not know, to know if one is strong or not, observe how they respond when the tables are turned on them. — or may be they only know how to react.

  12. Swing and a miss … It has nothing to do with the topic he covered… it’s as simple as 53 players on that football team . I’m sure they have wife’s thst get happy too but even when they do well it’s Taylor Taylor Taylor … if you are to blind to see the script already in print … Travis will over shadow the scripted kc win with a swift proposal on the field after the Super Bowl win by the chiefs .. and look at the dollar amount that swift has generated for the chiefs and the nfl… underlined reason behind this not sure she is there to support her bf.. 52 other players on that team have people in the stands too ..

  13. I didn't know about you until your comments on Swift-Kelce came up. It is good to see sportscasters who can intelligently and, dare I say, courageously speak out about other subjects. It was the same for Stephen A. whom I didn't know either until some links popped up to his other stuff. Congratulations.

  14. bread and circus commentator belittling American men and defending the bread and circus. sports sports sports lol lmao

  15. Good job calling fans Liars. You never have been more than a second rate back up player in your game. Taylor Swift is horrible! I'm older than you, been watching Football Longer and will not be watching the Superbowl in part to TS. LOSER, FRAUD, SELLOUT and list list goes on COW-ARD!

  16. tRump quaking in his boots because if the K-Pop and Swifties get together, he's so-toast. I mean, he's already toast according to the latest polls. He's just flailing now.

  17. Colin I rarely say this, but you are SPOT ON. We disagree a little, but that's usually over things that happen in game play, which is honestly going to be typical. Taylor is on our screens what, 15 seconds a game? Not only is she not trying to be there, she doesn't even KNOW when it happens.

  18. It's turned 100% political at this point. As someone calculated, she was shown on TV .39% of the game. That's enough to trigger and enrage some people sadly.

  19. I guess the attempt to get algorithm to push a post with Taylor Swift in the title didn't work huh? Only 35k views with 1.2mill subs, dead channel Cowturd.

  20. Cowherd same guy who said Lamar is not a quarterback and should become a running back or wide receiver in the NFL.

  21. The only thing more obnoxious than a bunch of people complaining about Taylor swift, is the occasional virtue signaling male using the opportunity to appear enlightened.

  22. Every time Travis Kelce gets a catch, the damn camera pans to Taylor Swift. It is clearly annoying. No other player has their significant other panned to other than maybe ONCE per year. I think Brock Purdy's parents get panned to on rare occasions. This is what fans are sick and tired of. Get off the Swift worshipping altar for god's sake.

  23. Id like to push back on Colin's point. The angle of his monologue is that we should be okay with "25 seconds of a woman being on TV" and used the strong women in his life to support why he doesn't have a problem with women being on TV during an NFL game. I would argue that none of the people who dislike seeing Taylor Swift after every touchdown have a problem with women being on TV. If they showed the guys mom i dont think anyone would have a problem with it. but they show her every few minutes of a chiefs game (Im a chiefs fan), EVEN WHEN ITS NOT TRAVIS KELCE SCORING THE TD. its the acknowledgment that they are using her for publicity and clicks on social media, because they dont show ANYONE ELSE'S family or wife or gf nearly as much as they show her. it's just disingenuous, thats all…

  24. Hey, Collin I know you may not see this text but it's not about how strong your mother is or anything, and it's more than just that 25 second clip of Taylor Swift, it's all over the news. And we don't want a great game between San Fran and a Kansas City. Chiefs, being overtaking called the Taylor Swift bowl that's disrespectful. Everywhere you turn, it seemed like she's dominating. The news lines and true football fans don't care about that. And it's not her fault it's the media.

  25. for those who claim that "we're forced to watch taylor and all kelce's commercials", please let me be the first to familiarize you with your tv remote. on that remote, typically toward the top, you'll find a button conveniently labeled "on/off". make your way down the contraption, and you'll likely find a pair of sets of up/down arrows. one of these sets of up/down arrows is for volume; it often is labeled "volume". the other set of up/down arrows is to change the channel; if often is labeled "channel". either one of these sets of arrows will accomplish the desired task, although they function somewhat differently. hitting the "down" arrow on the volume set will gradually lower the volume of your television so that you won't be forced to endure a commercial featuring travis kelce, or listen to the announcers say something about taylor swift. IMPORTANT NOTE: do NOT hit the "up" arrow to lower the volume, as this will have the opposite of the desired effect. now, back to the "channel" set of up/down arrows. this set of arrows is intended to change the channel of your television, typically in sequential fashion. hitting the "up" arrow in the "channel" set will cause the channel to increase in number; hitting the "down" arrow in the same set will, likewise, cause the channel to decrease in number. finally, there is a button that one can push, often featuring a speaker with a line or "X" through it. colloquially, this is known as the "mute" button. push it, and it effectively serves to reduce the volume on your television to the lowest level, as if you'd just pushed the "down" arrow on the volume set repeatedly. so, in summary, there are four options to avoid those pesky cuts to taylor swift, or those annoying travis kelce commercials:
    1) hit the "on/off" button on your remote
    2) hit the "down" arrow in the "volume" set (again, just as a friendly reminder, do not hit the "up" arrow)
    3) hit either the "up" or "down" arrow in the "channel" set
    4) hit the "mute" button.

i hope this helps many of you who are inconvenienced by travis kelce and taylor swift, although i recognize that this is a lot to digest at once.

    you're welcome.
