Habs Likely to Pick in Top 10 in 2024 NHL Draft

Will the Montreal Canadiens draft in the top 10 in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft?

#habs #montrealcanadiens #nhl

What’s going on everybody are you still encouraged by the Montreal Canadians it’s okay not to be and that’s why I’m just doing a quick little video today after that Habs s game last night where the S beat the Habs for the eighth time in a

Row and uh yeah the S are still eight points back at the Canadians that’s how bad this start to the season went for them but it doesn’t matter anymore I mean even Shane Pinto coming back off of his 41 game suspension and he scores his first goal in his first game back

Against the Canadians in Montreal so yeah um I did find it very interesting that um and it was good to see Arbor Jacky back by the way I didn’t even realize Tanner Pearson was going to be returning until you know it was too late uh I found out after we found out

Yesterday basically pretty much at least I did anyway before the game so didn’t have a chance to talk about that when mentioning that Arbor Jacky was coming back and Arbor looked okay um there was a lot of missed chances by the Canadians in this game I mean the goals they gave

Up weren’t great the first goal of the game short-handed can’t happen right it just can’t happen but um other than that you know Jake Allen didn’t have a great game but Montreal also missed chances Coffield had chances some other players had chances Josh Anderson once again and

Now he’s on the top line at practice this morning so I know some of you guys aren’t happy to hear that but that’s where that’s where the state of things are right now slavkovsky on the second line actually now so what do we expect for the rest of

This season well I’m kind of with my buddy Matt AKA hockey junkie if you guys didn’t see his video this morning already if you did you know what I’m talking about right Bob MacKenzie’s mid-season draft rankings have been released he’ll actually be appearing on my buddy Shane’s um podcast called the

Recruits Draft Cast so be sure to check that out be sure to check that out because uh Bob’s going to talk probably in detail about who the the Montreal Canadians should Target in the draft should they potentially get a top 10 draft pick and by the way things are

Going right now the chances for the Canadians to get a top 10 pick are are looking better and better by every game so what do we want for the rest of the season well a part of me thought not too long ago you know should the Canadians

Just like tank or get off the pot you know what I’m saying right tanking is not an option tanking is not something that players are ever going to do as we know it happens naturally aka the Chicago Blackhawks and the San Jose Sharks they’re doing it very naturally they’re still trying though they’re

Still trying to compete every night they just don’t expect the results necessarily right and neither should we at this point it’s still basically year two of the rebuild I mean Jack Hugh Jack Hughes Ken Hughes Ken Hughes and Jeff Gordon really together started this whole thing with Marty St Louis in

January of in February of 2022 it’s only been two years since they’ve all been here so if you look at it that way what did we really expect this season well if Kirby Dock and Alex new hook were healthy we expected to be more competitive for a wild card spot I’d say

We’d be within like two to three to four points out of a wild card spot now we’re eight points out there’s 35 games left in the season welcoming Patrick wall and the Islanders Thursday to the Bell Center sounds weird still to say it but they are and you know Patrick’s going to

Be coming in with his team to compete and they’re going to be coming in to take two points from the Canadians that’s what they’re going to do the Canadians are in disarray they don’t have four centers right now yes yes the Ulan is their fourth line Center at

Practice right now so what do we expect the rest of the way well I can tell you that I don’t know because I’m looking at Bob MacKenzie’s list and honestly like it would be great to get a we we need a forward Prospect and my gosh if they

Take a defenseman again this year we’re all going to lose it but I don’t think that’s necessarily going to happen two defensemen are projected to go in the top three at least as of right now so for Wingers for the draft this year celebrini is going first m is not going

To get the first overall pick unless some crazy luck happens um Cole Eiserman Kaden Lindstrom eisman’s a Winger and Lindstrom is a six foot three center that is going to go from the in the top five for sure I I believe they’re just hard to come by and

Centers are not not the top pick or top priority like they are this year like they were last draft right so to me I mean I would like to get a top 10 draft pick absolutely that still means that player that we pick for is not going to

Be playing with the Canadians for at least what two to three years unless they’re really really good maybe Lindstrom or Eiserman could be ready sooner than that right which would be fine so I’m more than okay with I just don’t know what this season means now

Like what what is the what is the goal of this season development we want to see the young players develop okay that’s fine we’ve seen slavkovsky take a step overall regardless of whether you liked his game the last couple games or not and other players like Jaden strubel

Also playing very well so we could talk about Player Development and that’s the goal this season and it has been to an to a certain extent but now what now we have to focus on you know what do we want as fans for the rest of this season

Well I don’t think the canans are going to stop competing but the way that they’ve been showing lately it doesn’t show to me like they have a ton of Victories coming their way even if they get Alex new hook back I don’t think it’s going to make a huge differ

Difference really if he comes back in the next month or so the Canadians have the All-Star break coming up it’s a good long break it’s like what 7 to 10 days where the Canadians are going to have no games to play so what do they do during

That time well they’re going to have to maximize their assets right now for me it’s all about the draft and first of all the trade deadline and seeing where the Canadians are at come March seeing if a team makes an offer for Shawn Monahan sooner than March and then we

Can actually have a good deal in place to talk about and you know another building block in place to progress the progress the rebuild properly but at this point I don’t think there’s anything wrong with looking ahead to the trade deadline to the draft at this

Point 35 games left in the season the Canadians aren’t making the playoffs and I just don’t see the purpose of not them trying to win I mean I know why they’re trying to win they’re competitive hockey players that want to win every night you play hockey because you you play to win

That’s why you play we know that that’s what the Canadians players are going to do but in terms of us as fans how to handle every game this season I mean so much disappointment just from last night’s game alone and of course the Boston game we know this is their third

Loss in a row right so how do we take these games coming at us at this point well I think fans are starting to get on board slowly but surely with getting a top 10 draft pick because I said not that long ago based on the way the cans

Were playing that we weren’t getting a top 10 pick that narrative’s changing very fast so I think that them getting a top 10 pick can only help them it won’t hinder them so I’m not going to be upset if they keep losing that’s what I’m going to say it’s still in the rebuild

So you need to have three good drafts ideally right slavkovsky rebacker hoping he works out OB excuse me obviously and I do still have a lot of hope that he will but getting another forward in the top 10 could really help things ultimately long term so that in

Two three years from now ideally in 2026 is when I said I hope to make the playoffs again that’s when I hope that we get back in I don’t expect us to make it next year it’s too soon I I don’t see it yet our players are still too young

They’re still developing we still don’t have that top six you know forward that we’re still um clamoring for and by the way I’m going to be releasing a clip about Shan GMA and myself talking about the Habs possibly going after kappo from the New York Rangers another K use Kirby

Doc Alex new hook possible trade in the off season a player like him maybe maybe somebody like Alex turkot there’s a couple options but we really focused in on kokako as a possibility so we’ll see I’m going to release that clip to you guys so I don’t have much else to add to

This video today guys other than I want to say that I’m okay with them just letting the season go Let it go I I don’t even I’ve never even seen Frozen anyway I think we can let this season go as fans and just hope that we get

Another player that will help us in the rebuild hopefully a forward a lot of people really want Kaden Lindstrom I have to do my research on these players so I will dive into these players as we get more losses piling up here I will dive into the top

10 list that Bob Mackenzie made because Bob’s such an accurate Source every single season we love him for that and and after we hear him talk he doesn’t make a lot of podcast appearances so he’s going to be talking to Shane and Grant on the recruits Draft Cast the

Sick podcast and we’ll see what he has to say there about who the Canadians could Target should they pick in the top 10 this coming draft I think we have to support them picking in the top 10 I’m on board with it I think I want to see

Them play good games they’re going to win good games and hopefully guys have good games that we can talk about talk about some wins But ultimately we want to see them pick high as high as possible and then after this year no more tanking no more draft we want to

See them compete for a wild card spot and then a regular playoff spot from here on out after that so that’s where I’m at I’m good with letting this season go let’s pick in the top 10 let’s acquire more assets at the trade deadline and accelerate the rebuild this

Summer with another trade and next season with a healthy Squad let’s compete for a while spot that’s where I’m at let me know where you’re at comment down below thanks guys and we’ll talk to you real soon

  1. Celebrini, Lindstrom, Catton, Demidov, Eiserman are forwards that could possibly play In the NHL next season, Catton is a more skilled Benson in my opinion, Celebrini 100% would be NHL ready, Lindstrom has the size so I think he could be, Demidov has 1 more year on his contract I believe so he wouldn’t come until 2025-26 season, Eiserman could play in the NHL, But the NCAA would be the best for him to work on his play away from the puck but if you really needed him he could play in the NHL… Lindstrom we won’t get in my opinion he’s going top 4, Eiserman and Demidov or Catton are VERY possible especially if we finish with the 6th overall pick, If we end up with Demidov, Eiserman or Catton we will have that superstar/elite player we need… We have star players like Suzuki, Caufield and Dach along with Slaf could be stars as well, But we do not have a Superstar or elite player, I have 3 categories Stars, Superstars and elite players we have Stars but no superstar or elite players yet…

  2. Montreal going after Kakko is the worst idea I have heard all season…. Sure he hasn’t really worked in New York and he may need a new start but in my opinion he’s at best! A 3rd line player he was not a great pick at 2nd overall Gorton screwed up that one… I know he’s still young, But not the player we need unless you want to trade for a middle 6 player that has size then that I understand but if you are trading for him to be that “answer” for the Habs missing top 6 player… You will be VERY DISAPPOINTED.

  3. I would be calling Winnipeg and seeing if they would take Monahan and a second round pick for Rudger Mcgroarty, He’s going to be a VERY good top 6 player in the future and if the Jets wanna make a move to win now Monahan is an amazing fit he’s the same type of player they like when it comes to character, He can win draws really well, Can produce like a second liner, Does not hurt you defensively…

  4. As they said in Moneyball “If you don’t win the last game of the season then nobody remembers you”. If the Canadiens don’t win the Stanley Cup then who cares where they finish as long as they are in a position to do better the next year and pick someone who can help them win the Stanley Cup.

  5. if anyone is surprised they will pick around 6 haven't been paying attention. The roster is terrible, Hugo is acquiring picks, young players through this year, then he is working on roster holes going into next year. ie trading for positions of need, younger talent, size and skating ability. Hugo still has a lot of bad contracts.

  6. I dont have problem to let this season go, but it is bit painful after you see your guys can beat best in the league.
But without consistency, there is no chance in playoffs.

  7. They could have a million top 10s, they’re horrible at drafting early. Picks are useless to the habs as their scouting staff is probably the worst in the league. If that habs wanna take that next step and find talent up front , it’s gonna have to be through a trade

  8. My Habs fan take on this team…I am not a fan of MSL as our head coach…would love him as an assistant/associate/PP coach, but not as our head coach esp with zero pro coaching experience. Now I realize, with our mandatory requirement of a bilingual head coach, the selection of a head coach was limited and MSL was "outside the box" thinking and let's face it, bare minimum, a Quebec marketing genius move by Gorton/Hughes. MSL has no doubt a HOF hockey mind with endless experiences to share with a young rebuilding group…but I am concerned that MSL's concepts are WAY too complex for a young group to grasp and expect to buy into. A team with no foundational structure will lose badly every time versus a more seasoned and better coached teams IMO. I do appreciate MSL's fresh new take on how he wants this team to play…some might say way better than the defence first, highly structured, take less risks play that most Habs fans might be use to seeing from past Hab teams. I am just unsure what kind of team Gorton/Hughes&MSL are building? My major concern with this team that I agree we need to be patient with because we have so many young players…is are Gorton/Hughes&MSL really on the same page as to what they want this team to eventually become? If Hughes continues on his usual transaction path of trade vets for picks and trade picks for the potential in a young player who is still developing or wait for picks to develop…this team will not compete for another 4-5+ years, if ever. If Hughes wants to bring this group to a new level, he needs to add substantial pieces to this young group (or make some ballzy decisions)…elite offensive fwds, big physical net presence puck retrieval along the boards wingers, and a high energy 4th line. I want this team to use their speed, players on the PP should always be in movement (if Suzuki has the puck, ATTN all players, for the love of gouda GET OPEN! or help screen the goalie!!!) and D need to activate constantly to cause confusion, be aggressive on the PK, stop passing back always passing forward, less stickhandling, more quick passes, no more passing to stationary players…hit skating fwds with passes…execute the little things…clean passes, hitting the net with shots, disciplined play, defensive awareness, and most important…don't let the other team dictate the play, don't sit back, skate & push the play. Will we get another Top10 pick in 2024? It wouldn't be a surprise esp as this team starts to regress as the season drags on and more players are moved by trade deadline. I feel this trade deadline and this off-season will be a crucial one and will make clearer what this team's identity is trying to be. 25'-26' off season will be the UFA add, playoff push! If not, expect rumblings from fans, media and ownership.

  9. I was expecting this team to be starting to fade away from a playoff spot after the break. Well it’s happening just a bit sooner. Looking at the standings right now ,Detroit has 53 points,Montreal 45 with both teams having 35 games left . So let’s do a little math here. Detroit plays .500 hockey the rest of the way: they total 88 points. Canadiens would have to play over their heads like it’s no one’s business to get 89 or 90 points. NOT happening. Not to mention as well they have to leapfrog over 5 or 6 teams to reach the post season. So trading Sean Monahan is starting to make more sense now. What can we get for him Drew?I would prefer an NHL player. If not what would be the next best thing?

  10. The Habs are rebuilding the whole franchise, D&D, Laval, Mtl, QMJHL team, Mgmt, coach, so expect at least 8 roster spots to open, 6 prospects 😊to sign at least and a couple of pro pick-ups. We'll be drafting high up for years.

  11. Atta boy, DD! Excellent vid, my friend. What do I want as a Habs fan for the rest of this year? I want competitiveness, effort, and some good moves at the trade deadline. The last 3 games have been absolutely unwatchable – and my son and I were 2nd row in Ottawa to see them get spanked 6-2! Remember last year, when they were losing, but they worked hard and were competing every single game? That. I want that. Keep up the great content, dude – it's fun watching your star rise!

  12. armia our 1-10 ( he plays 1 outta 10 games ) is still in the lineup …. savard the human zamboni is still in the lineup. gally & his ridiculous contract is still in the lineup. primaue is still on our roster. our pp & pk are the same. marty st louie is still the coach … so really wtf are we expecting……. by the way true habs fans dont ever use the word rebuild.. if we r 0-81 we want to win the 82nd game … 100 year old habs fans expect them to win each & every game!!!!!! jeff molson you should be ashamed!!!!!!! it starts at the top

  13. Here’s a challenge to my fellow Habs’ fans: It’s October 2025. What’s our opening night line up? Just something I’ve been thinking about.

  14. my only issue right now is how players like Dvorak, Armia, Anderson, Gally, Savard, Allen, and even some of the acquired players are still here. We need to really start bringing up the young guys so they can learn the speed of the game, build comradery, and start building those line ups. Then using picks and a couple prospects to buildout a veteran presence that produces. Also I'm still on board with acquiring a top 10 goaltender and I'll keep saying his name…..Swayman from Boston. Look, are we going to have to retrain salary to move some of these guys? yes, just get it done already. Also it seems like the Habs only have one style of offense. I was watching the Oilers game the other day and in the first period they were getting hammered because the other team wouldn't let them play their way, so they changed their offense to counteract how the other team was playing against them and ended up scoring like 3-4 more goals. Let's improve the systems Marty.

  15. They are a bad coached team and a bottom 5 team at best with this coaching staff and the only reason they have the points they do is goal tending

  16. I think they do. Probably 7-10 if Caufield Suzuki Slaf stay healthy and Matheson Monty continue this. But that's ok! We've seen GREAT progress in this rebuild so far. We started off by setting records for how bad we were in 2022 then being around .500 for the 1st half of the 23 season and now we still have a chance at the playoffs? I mean thats great to me. If we get a guy like Catton or Lindstrom to round up our top 6 I can easily see this team being great. Our two most expensive guys are under 8m$ and guys like Gally and Anderson and Armia will free up 15m in cap.

  17. At some point, Montreal really needs to be lucky at the draft…Winning the lottery would help to turn this franchise around. Indeed, Celebrini would be the 1C they have been needing for several years. However, I still see them drafting from 7th to 12th at the 2024 entry draft, possibly another defenseman which would be the best player available at that spot !!!
