We all try to make big changes during a round of golf. I have never found this very productive. When I give playing lessons, we don’t really fix swings so much as manage swings.
I wont tell someone to do a special swing to play a draw, when they are cutting the ball all day. I tell them where to land so they can cut it in, or where to aim so the straight or cut both ends up in a good place.
Even swing thoughts are tough to change during a round. I tell people to take practice swings with exacting swing thoughts, but the actual swing has to be a simple thought.
Tempo. Or hands in front. Or eyes center of the ball. Turn slow, hands high, bow wrist, throw lower body, rotate hips, press hands, squat, post, finish high…. That swing thought isn’t really going to do much but inspire a terrible shot.
Take your practice swings and then let go of all the other thoughts. Don’t force a swing you don’t have that day.
And if you have no swing, just shorten the one you have, hit half swings and punch the ball around. From there you can work on your short game, that is easier to tweak during a round.
Let’s talk about dancing with the girl you brought to the dance now a lot of times we get out on the on the course and we don’t properly warm up and let’s say we’re used to hitting Cuts we’re always hitting cuts and for some reason that
Day we’re doing a little bit of a draw we’re going left instead of right keep aiming down the left side and you know it’s just going or let’s say that you normally play a draw you aim down the right your natural swing is a little bit of a draw um your
Swing is a little handsy so you’re turning it over today your tempo’s not good today your your timing’s not good so now you’re you’re cutting or hitting straight what do you do well we have a saying dance with the girl you brought to the dance meaning you came to the
Course with this cut swing you can play the cut you can just decide to aim left Center of green or right center of green and if it plays your normal ball you’re still okay if it plays the one that you’re currently playing you’re you’re great that’s called dancing with a girl you brought
To the dance trying to make swing changes under pressure is for the pros we don’t want to do that we want to try our best to when we’re having bad days shorten your swing just a little bit force the contact and try to get the ball moving towards the hole and work on
The small things that you can work on without making changes because when you showed up to the dance with a different girl you were with a different girl because the other didn’t want to be there and the chance of you coming with one girl and leaving with a different
One is rather low so my suggestion is when you’re playing and you’re playing moderately poorly of course you can move your eyes forward to make better ball contact of course you can try to turn in your takeaway but trying to change what you’ve brought to the course mid round
Is probably going to frustrate you and that’s better served in lessons and on the Range so moral of the story dance with the girl you brought to the dance that’s your best chance so anyways press and sent
