12 short months ago I had a lesson with one of the world’s best golf coaches David lead better it was absolutely eye opening it was a fantastic lesson and my golf has come on Leaps and Bounds since so I think I’ve been practicing what David taught me for the last 12 months

And today we jump back into the lion’s den and see just how I’ve come on and if I can potentially get any better give you a clue this could be shocking I was quite shocked to see how much better how are you your annual lesson annual lesson

Golf if the ball striking disappears I start hitting it out the toe I hit the occasional un mentionable it’s not enjoyable I don’t play very well and then I’ll put the clubs away and take the baby to the park for a couple of days so that’s a lot more enjoyable to

Be fair so uh I try to feel as though as I load up I I feel like this is better feel like the takeaway is better having user straight away and then I’ve had a feeling where I try and extend the right leg a little bit and get the club set

Higher because I’m quite um I think last time we used the word mass got plenty of mass behind me but I’m not very flexible so I try to create as much power as I can generally so you might see a few okay let’s see here

Goe so that’s like a nine out of 10 for me that’s good well I see you know hard the P straight away I se an improvement yeah yeah oh good I mean so the fact that your your your start is much much better yeah that’s better yeah I feel

Like it’s helped the Rhythm as well like realistically I feel like before it was there wasn’t it so potentially yeah well it’s interesting when you look when you look James how many players today we are rehearsing that first movement I mean it’s incredible I mean this young

Superstar I mean I think’s got a beautiful golf swing and you know he’s got that little rehearsal in the old days you know the the waggle was purely designed to release tension yeah now yeah you can still release tension but the fact of the matter is you’ve actually you’re

Rehearsing trying to get into the position you want almost like a preset kind of of move exactly I mean you know let’s have a look at a couple more see what we’ve got there okay see that’s the towy one the strike suffered there and obviously it’s kind

Of yeah yeah quite a lot further back L of On Target though and that’s one of the big things like if we look at the kind of data here as well I certainly feel like club club face has being a lot better A lot more improved even on the

Bad shots potentially yeah I mean that’s that’s the key really isn’t it having better misses right yeah you know so so so here’s the thing I think I think the the area that you need to focus on now I mean look don’t give up on check I mean the great thing with the

Straightaway is that you can use it periodically and just to make sure that you are where you think you are you might laugh at this but I use it at home so I don’t really take it to the range anymore but like when when we’re at home

And I just kind of put it on a club and just oh that’s perfect that’s a ideal way of doing it yeah okay so let’s swing it back to the top and hold it there for me so what do you understand by the transition okay what what do you think should happen as

You start now so transition in my book I’m going to go from the ground up okay so I’m going to try and start the transition with a rotation of my hips which for me puts pressure into my left heel right so from there I feel like the

Hips clear out then I can passively move shoulders and cl you’re right to a point okay but it’s a timing thing so what I would this is what I’d like you to do here okay work it back okay now I want you to squash okay when I say squash as you start forward

Here there right so you can see you’ve actually you’ve moved your arms have dropped and now the thought process that you’ve had you can now Implement now this is where this should start to happen but it’s happening too early okay okay in other words you sort of get into

The top here and you’ve almost got a spinny action going on okay so that that can create a sort of a synchronization issue on your down swing yeah okay so your back swing is pretty well synchronized I’m not seeing this and then this lift that you used to have so

It looks like everything’s arriving together I don’t believe if you remember that the amount of gold swings you must have seen in the last 365 days actually remember was it that bad I remember no I remember people’s swings more I remember people’s names I tell you but anyway so

Like okay okay Jim yeah yeah we’ll take Jim all right all right James okay now just hold on to back right now come on we’re going to we’re going to actually try good you see for me that it feels like more of a lateral movement but I

Don’t mind that right but but it’s more it’s more squash yeah yeah okay can you see how it’s almost like this and this and this are actually getting lower okay now you can start to rotate now get your way back to your heel you don’t want to

Get your weight till your heel going too early yeah cuz if you get too early I mean you got to remember these are going to get there before that so now you’ve got to you know somehow catch up with your hands so right just do that two or

Three times that is mind bog cuz like for me it almost feels like with that movement there if I was stood on a sheet of ice I could still make that movement whereas I feel like if I made my move I’d fall over yeah yeah 100% right let’s

Do that again now so I want you to squash okay hold it and just just rehearse that’s there you go that’s it and you can see so now now from here now your job is to get the heck out of the way that’s it that’s it that’s a different finishing position as well

Yeah yeah and you see you’ll find that a time I mean the problem is is that when you get this going early yeah you’ve really got to get these motoring to catch up yeah where if you’re here it’s like it’s almost as if this controlling

Your arm speed to a point where now as you rotate you can let it go yeah I didn’t even think about that is yeah right so rehearse that first move okay so there you go see if you can do it all together in one movement just just to the transition

Okay to hit it so no just just go to here and stop but stop it don’t stop at the top I want you to stop in your transition not even that far down even shorter than that halfway way down with the left arm there you that’s it and maybe a

Little bit just a little bit deeper so in other words you’re going to feel your shoulders and your hips are closed at this point yeah all right is that is that true you feel that and then open up okay how quickly can we open up from

There there you go that’s it all right so just have an easy one get that feeling so you’re going to really sink on that left side there you go good right boom perfect how was that a little different yeah it felt different was toy but it felt like

And again we look at the kind of numbers here the spin axis is perfect yeah Club face perfect club path a little bit into out yeah and I think that’s pretty pretty good really where it’s finished quite like cuz that’s the key is isn’t it you don’t want to be manipulating the

Golf club manipulate the golf club and you’re done aren’t you no and the thing is the problem is you know the problem with technology is that a good player with any sort of instinctive feel can fudge it right so you can okay hang on let’s just let’s change the spin AIS

It back to the top of the back swing okay right now go done there you feel that there yeah you see so you can see because you you’ve lowered the foot you this gives you the feet that your left side is squashing cuz otherwi yeah otherwise you wouldn’t be able to do it

Would you right so okay that or other on a down slope is a really good feel for you yeah okay so right because if you you get this sort of spinning action like this that you’re probably going to hit behind it and that probably explains why my Miss with the driver at the

Moment is that way they never used to be used to be either way 100% yeah no you you’ve uh you’ve made some good progress there actually you know despite the fact you’re a you’re a new dad that felt good that was really good and you you should actually feel a little

Yeah that’s the big thing that I am really seeing like obviously you can see the um in front of you on the gdr you see the replay of the Swing don’t you it looks more more of a an actual rotation yeah exactly it’s it’s more so of

Here there there yeah as opposed to here and that’s amazing it’s basically added like a a new Dynamic into the transition for me cuz I think everything was almost right wasn’t it was missing the probably transmission of what we’re trying to do yeah exactly you’re missing you’re

Missing the link between you know which is the important one obviously as you change direction little wider STS too just a little there you go perfect right okay I’m going to really enjoy practicing again now well it’s always nice to have you know good it’s always

Sort of down your chest there you can see look where your shoulders are aming yeah you know that’s perfect is it this this I sort of started to understand years ago when I looked at slow motion movies of Hogan Hogan had one of the quickest shoulder at this point halfway

Down his shoulders literally were 45° to the right yeah at this point they were 45° to the left they just pass him yeah so the speed that he actually rotated so he was in such good syn that he could actually so that’s why he felt he could hit hard

With his right side cuz that’s in reality what you’re doing the problem is when you’re like this your right side is not really involved no cuz I can’t hit it hard at the moment it doesn’t work yeah good CH we again but that just a little bit it’s more behind

Me isn’t it more behind yeah exactly that one that one yeah and you’ll see I mean look at that go the thing that was really good that was really good but it’s it’s really interesting I mean with your bill with your you know your tree trunk legs there

I mean you need to use them okay I’m a unit aren’t I David huh I’m a unit well you know you’ve got a youve got a great build I mean look you’ve got short legs you got strong legs and it’s you know you got sort of you know big ass yeah

  1. Amazing how many people still go back to Hogan's swing when they talk about great swings. Why does that Golfzon simulator always seem to make your shots go left, you don't do that on the course.

  3. My problem like you is that I started the spin with my hips too early in the downswing. It caused my shots to go to the left, sometimes way left. Great video James.

  4. Working on this as well, it's tough to not force the hips open and just let the squat do all the work.

Dear James, I seldom right a comment but could not help myself on this video with Mr. David Ledbetter – I saw your 1st video instructions with Mr. Ledbetter and totally agreed with David's assessment on your take away where you take it back too inside and had to be too flippy with your hands on the down swing! Mr. Ledbetter saw your noticeable improvement (today) on your take away and knew that you were ready to begin your 2nd instruction which was now your downswing and follow thru. He's assessment with you using your legs to squat down and helping you feel the head (of club) and shaft kind of flatten out around shoulder level as you squat down using your legs and buttocks. Your last shot was very impressive and everything in that swing was on plane and in sync! This shows that Mr. Ledbetter is one of the greatest Golf Instructors in the game Today!
