I am Tom Saguto, PGA Member and founder of SagutoGolf. Thank you for visiting my channel where you can learn how to play the best golf of your life. Whether you are an expert golfer looking for a quick swing tune-up or a beginner looking to play better. I am here to help you achieve your golfing goals.
My mission as your swing coach is simple, to help you maximize your enjoyment in game of golf. Because, let’s face it, golf is a hard game.
My goal for you is to have the most fun of your life playing golf. You’ll be hitting farther, straighter, and playing better golf by watching these videos. What are you waiting for, let’s get started!
The answer to fixing all of your contact problems lies in your ability to tilt in the golf swing and we’re going to be looking at Ben Hogan’s tilt today Ben Hogan one of the best ball Strikers of all time he was like a a robot out there
And when you watch him swing you get an idea of what you truly need to do to strike the ball well and one of the big pieces that we’re going to look at is the idea of tilting and staying centered your whole ability to strike the ball
Solid lies around this concept this is what will enable you to walk up to a ball without much thinking swing and hit it solid and I’m I haven’t even I haven’t even hit it yet and I told you it was going to be solid because of this very concept right
Here Ben Hogan’s tilt tilt is your spine quite literally moving like this towards a Target now it’s something you absolutely need in the golf swing to hit the ball in the center of the club face so if I stand over the ball here the first thing I have is tilt my spine is
Tilted towards the ground for me to maintain this tilt this relationship to the ball I have to also move my spine like so I have to tilt my spine towards a Target and when I replace my forward tilt with spine tilt you see I’m keeping my body’s relationship to the ball this
Is an active movement with your spine I am not just keeping my spine stationary I’m not trying to keep my spine angle I am literally tilting and when we watch Ben Hogan from the side view you’re going to see that he also keeps his body’s relationship to the ball and this
Requires an active side bending towards the target some of you might say Tom there’s no way you’re are doing this in the golf swing I just saw you hit that ball right there you don’t look like this I really do when you look at me from a 45° angle this is where you’re
Going to see me tilting fully with my spine towards a Target top of back swing so that lead shoulder is doing what it’s dropping big time but my head’s not going down I’m keeping my head in place and I’m tilting this is an active movement of the spine so that you
Can strike the ball solidly Time After Time what’s that song Time After Time Yeah by getting this shoulder down keep my body’s relationship the ball enables me to strike the center of the club face it also enables my body to Turn so I’m getting that shoulder down and the strikes are delicious but there’s another aspect of the Hogan tilt that gets overlooked and it’s from the very front view so we know Hogan is til tilting his spine like this fully towards a Target because it’s shown from
A 45° angle it’s also shown from the down the line view he’s keeping his spine tilt towards the ground now from the front view another thing that you got to pay attention to is this and here’s the big misconception a lot of golfers will think that they can move their spine
Like this the top they turn their back to the Target and ultimately what’s going on here is as they swing their head’s moving to the right they’re they’re trying to keep their spine angle from the front view if I just keep my spine angle and I didn’t tilt you see
This now this isn’t exactly what Hogan’s doing because if we watch him and I draw a stake right through his spine you’re going to see that that steak stays in the same same angle here and at the top it’s at the same angle for me to create this angle
I need to tilt towards the target while keeping my head in place because if I don’t tilt it all I’m moving like this this is the opposite of tilt it’s just pure turn lack of tilt very level turn and it would look something like this from the down line
View but if I had tilt here we are and from the front view if I had if I go level and add tilt here we are we’re over the ball and that’s where you see Hogan why does this matter matters because you’re trying to coordinate this tilt throughout the golf swing from both
Angles for solid contact with every Club in the bag you need full side Bend towards the target you need to keep your head in place and from the front view you also need to keep your spine vertical or at least closer to Vertical not moving your head side to side which
In either Direction moving your head in either direction is going to create inconsistent contact so you need to work on your tilt and the way you do that one I’ve got a ton of great drills at the link goo. my free mini course top three keys
You need to be a great ball Striker that’s a great place to start second place is just thinking about getting your shoulder moving down but keeping your head in place so my lead shoulder touching the ball but my head’s staying in place spine stays vertical and that’s
A crispy strike it already predicts the strike for you there it is again so to think that Hogan doesn’t tilt or to think that there’s some other Force going on outside of tilt like if you if you had a golf swing without tilt it would look like
This baseball player that would be be doing zero tilt even if I had a little bit of tilt towards the ball like this if I didn’t Tilt at all I didn’t change my spine angle I kept it the same that’s what you’re getting it’s not a golf
Swing but the second I add the Tilt and then the second I do this with my arms there’s my golf swing that’s a golf swing so you need this it’s not like a we’re going to try and get around it cuz if you don’t tilt I guarantee you’ll top
That ball I don’t want to hurt my pxg you’ve probably seen me do this in a previous episode where I demonstrated a top I’m sorry Club we’re never doing that again I don’t want you to do it either I’m just trying to keep my spine vertical and [Applause] tilt there it is
Again it’s extremely centered the importance of staying centered in the golf SP cannot be overstated if you stay centered you’re going to play Great Golf just keeping my head in place like there’s a pin on it turn those shoulders in a circle making sure I’m tilting it’s very powerful strike it feels
Amazing I am tilting towards a Target tasty McNuggets right there think about stay being centered and you will strike the ball well a golf swing without tilt is impossible to hit the ball well you need tilt tilt is your best friend and when you access that you’re going have some fun out there
Thanks for tuning in and I’ll see you in a future [Applause] [Applause] episode [Applause] A

Tilt away to a crispy strike, thanks Tom ,God Bless
Front bend, side bend … power thrust. Great content in 3 dimensions
so exactly correct tom, that is the one compound
component that keeps the entire axis of motion
where it must be to maintain your ball /divot
strike because you connect with the ball on
a descending path, (irons) that only alters for
the woods as ball position is moved to the
left ,and contact follows later as the arc of
the clubhead begins its upward motion, 👍
😇
Very good on the tilt with front shoulder on backswing. Question? Don’t we have some tilt in the downswing as well? For instance: To shallow the club… To keep our head behind the ball. Tucking our trail elbow….. What’s your opinion, while we’re discussing tilt… Thanks…
I saw Mark Crossfield do a similar video about tilt. He actually showed that if you tilt towards the target and then independently turn your lower body, it gets you into a great backswing position. We tend to think we're not tilting because we don't think of how we move upper and lower body independently, but since we're tilted over to towards the ball at address, just turning around our hips will swing your head around behind the ball; to stay above the ball, we have to tilt.
It's an absolutely fascinating video and will most probably be a big learning curve nice one Tom!
Tom, can you show your swing in a slow motion while you go through a full swing.
Superb Tom. Great video for tilting.
Great video. Now show how to keep the tilt through impact…that's key.
Great video really
Tasty McNuggets oh yes
Needs moar hammock! 😄
Tom you are a phenomenal teacher!!!!!
well, i actually think you turn and tilt better than hogan. certainly better than hogan did in the video you show here. obviously, he is 55 here and will not have had the physical ability to turn like you can- though, i am sure you will be able to turn just as well, as you do now, when you are 55- hogan actally stops turning and tilting as he approaches the top of his backswing; and, has a forwards movement towards the target with his head. i have always had the worst turn and worst tilt of any golfer. but, i studied the way you control the club with your left hand; and, have learned to estalish more control with the heel pad of my left hand just by taking my right hand off the club at the end of my follow thru and then swinging back, putting my right hand on the club towards the top of my backswing. i can now actually turn beyond 90 degrees.
but, if we were stood in an upright position and turned to the right we would actually tilt to the left to do this. we wouldn't lean to the left. the lower left side of the neck would press back to turn the body around; and, this makes us tilt to the left. the left side of the right leg then presses forwards, towards the instep, to help us turn all the way round. and, when we look at the '48 US open we can see that hogan actually aligns his head to the right at address. and, he does this by pressing back with the lower left side of his neck. the coil that this creates realigns his head in the downswing. if he had just simply turned his head off to the right, he, of course, would have no recoil and his head would not realign. it does sound like a bit of a strange method; and, no other golfer really has done this. but, it has helped me.
I’m fairly certain that the ciggie was the key to Hogan’s swing – it’s the little things… another great video by the way. Yours is the only advice I take on YouTube- succinct and simple advice.
How about the downswing
Anyone else sing Time after Time at the same moment 😂 🙋🏽♂️
Excellent explanation! Very helpful Keep up the great content
Thank you once again Professor Saguto.
Another great video. Keep ‘em coming!
The answer to almost all your golf innabillities is right here on this channel.
👍👍👍🏻
BTW, I lived the on course blog you did, I know everyone here would love to watch you play a round.
CRISPY
Thanks for the great advice – I have been struggling with the dreaded fairway top 😢I’ve been following your advice – straight left arm, weight on front foot, trail arm tucked, head over the ball, no swaying, etc, but…..I had been ever so slightly pulling my torso up and away from the ball at impact, changing the impact point. Please consider a video on topping and how some of us have a tendency to lift our torso up at the wrong time – thanks!
Great video. Another bad thing that happens when you don't tilt – your hips come forward (towards the ball) to balance out the shoulders turning flat. That loses all your posture, space to swing, and relationship to the ball. I caught myself doing this on video recently at the top of my swing. I've done a lot of backswing work in the mirror and have fixed it.
This instruction makes complete sense. If you keep your head centred you cannot help but take shoulder to the ball so long as you don't stand up to quick. Hogan swing however is not stack and tilt?.
❤❤❤❤ I will get this!! I swear!! If not, coming to SC!!!😂
I tilt when I golf. I'll take an 8, then go on tilt and start getting 10's.
I know this is probably just semantics, but it doesn't seem like the spine is "actively" tilting once you begin the golf swing. I establish my spine tilt when bending forward at address. Then, forgetting about the arms and club for a moment to illustrate the point, if I keep my head as still as possible, the only thing I feel is happening is my shoulders are rotating. If I've already tilted my spine over the ball at address, and then "actively" tilt it down further as I begin my swing, I feel like I would be changing the spine angle established at address which would now cause me to drive the club into the ground behind the ball? Again, probably just semantics here, but it just seems like the proper verbiage is to say the shoulders are simply rotating around the already tilted spine you established at address.
And you also tilt to the right in your downswing, equally important!
