Would be kind of end around I wanted to go right to the source um just what it comes down to is uh I think we’re getting more out of those from 50,000 fet than they are and like I shouldn’t like it it’s okay for me not to like it

But it’s actually there’s a strategy where it’s better for all concerned it’s just annoying I like that one play that one every day what’s there there’s a kernel of Truth to that I do have a huge forehead everybody loves you how are you good how was your day

Yesterday um good got a good nap in yesterday did you yeah I don’t I was nap but one where I was asleep actually did didn’t go to the bedroom just went to the couch and just kind of went and then like woke myself up like did I was I

Snoring and my wife was like yeah yeah all right right back isn’t that the weirdest thing where like you wake yourself up snoring you’re not sure if anyone else heard it yeah and then she’s like yeah true okay all right well we both had couch naps yesterday yeah isn’t

It weird that you Tred to hide it when there’s no point of 100% well because I don’t know like I think it woke me up was it loud or is this like an earthquake sound like did I wake up the city or did anybody hear it and she’s

Looking at me like no that was you like all right that was pretty loud then I guess yeah cuz when you wake up you can feel the Snore yeah CU which is a and maybe it could have like yeah like that or was it like you know shaking the

Walls and so um remember when they had that on towels feel the Snore a big thing yeah here we snore uhuh um so yeah it was good quality I don’t know 45 minutes to an hour maybe really 45 minutes to an hour is a good nap for you

I’ve I mean no I’m asking wow okay why do you go for a I try to go for I try to go for an hour to two hours if I can’t but it also varies on the day like Monday naps are usually my longest because you’re re acclimating yeah and

I’ve had a little bit of reacclimation anyways and then as the week goes on you know I can I’m good yeah I may not nap again this week I don’t know maybe I mean it’s rare I don’t know I get get I used to not nap at all yeah and then now

I’ve had a few more lately but I knew I had a late night with the game sure I was like uh let’s I’m a little sleepy never get a nap again de feet got no rhy yes yeah uh my nap got me in trouble though because I had a

Fixed it but she didn’t and so I had to undo all the anyways the conversation happened on the phone briefly were we postponed to today because I didn’t I didn’t want to uh you know I don’t want to have this half-ass setup I’m already going to look stupid okay I’m already

Gonna look stupid first foremost just as a general rule secondly compared to Brody’s setup and then thirdly you know I just wanted to be half-ass professional and be ready for it so I I had to undo everything redo it and then set up it was too late to do it with

Anyone so I had to sit up my own like Zoom meeting on my phone so I could make sure I could hear stuff uh and then yes I can promise you I’m sure our conversation will have a lot to do with the A’s and you know all that stuff but

In personalities on the whole thing so as as we head towards Summer I’m getting the increasing feeling that it’s going to be a little bit not exactly the same but a little bit like it was 10 12 years ago where one of the more exciting things we’re going to cover this summer

Has nothing to do with actual baseball but it will be the ongoing saga of the A’s and I’m I’m already kind of thinking about ways we can you know harness that content because I think I I wish I was wrong but I think the off field exploits

Of the A’s are going to be far more interesting than the onfield likely and then especially whether or not if it does happen if Sacramento’s involved it changes the game too for everybody locally I’m increasingly of the idea that um and I this is where I this is me

Just I want to be really clear this is not source I I’ve not heard this from anyone I’m increasingly starting to think that we might be a a leverage play I don’t know that they’re serious I really don’t well I don’t I think to be a leverage play they would have to have

An idea of what they’re gonna do I think they I think they want to ultimately either I don’t think they want to extend their Stadium lease in Oakland I don’t think that’s it I think they’re trying I think in the end if I’m right we’re going to see some deal cut in

Nevada some sort of subsidies going to improving a park I I think Sacramento and perhap it could be as simple as Sacramento is being used to leverage Salt Lake City and get a better deal there because I know Salt Lake like one trillion percent wants this to happen there’s no public blowback whatsoever

They don’t have the same issues because they’re not incestuous like we are with A’s fans here locally they don’t have that issue in Utah um it could be as simple as it’s a lever Sacramento is a leverage play for Salt Lake or they’re both leverage plays for something else

But I keep going back to the names on the scoreboard that doesn’t happen unless you want this public that wasn’t like River catch people on their own accord being like hey let’s put John Fisher’s name up on no you the way these things work you have to know that’s okay you

Have to know they’re okay with that and if that’s the case that could just be as simple as no we’re okay with this being public but the fact that they’re that okay with it being public tells me they want the disc course and there’s there’s some other underlying play here business

I could agree with that but this would be like the first time during that Saga that they’ve done something like that because they you’re right you could say they leveraged the A’s offer to get a better deal in Vegas but they don’t really have anything in Vegas no they

Don’t and that’s the other scary thing is like they legit what did I see yesterday the Tropicana still taking uh they’re still taking and fulfilling like $500 night stays like the entire year right exactly like the whole you can’t follow normal directions with these guys because quite frankly I just I’m not

Convinced they have any idea how to cut a deal or close a deal and I think that’s kind of where it’s at which is again I’ll say this why call me stupid no big deal wouldn’t be the first time I’m not entirely convinced Oakland’s off the table I’m I’m not entirely convinced

That in the end uh if they’re blocked enough that there may not be some sort of uhoh Oakland all of a sudden there’s a secret meeting and they might be back in play if this Vegas thing B and now you leverage them against each other anyways that’s all fun in games we’re

Now that can stop because new inductee Nick John Johnson joins us right now Nick it’s Dave it’s Jason good morning good morning guys how you doing great so is the trash talking going to stop now that you got two Hall of Famers in the same family uh not not with Larry he’s uh

He’s tough on me uh he’s got 2200 hits but uh he’ll uh he’ll take it easy on me now Nick I’m thinking what was just when you first heard that you’re going to be going into the sacr a Sports Hall of Fame I’m sure it flashes back to being

Born here going to mcache um you know obviously having a major league career but just kind of that that honor uh what what did it mean to you to find out that you’re going into the Sacramento Sports Hall of Fame no I was I was uh blessed

Honored uh all the talent that uh comes out of here and there’s so many great athletes that come out of Sacramento and just to be you know just to be one of them chosen is uh special I’m going have fun with it you know it it’s it’s funny

Cuz when you think about Hall of Famers like 70-year-old dude sitting on the couch uh you know you’re a little bit younger than me Nick you’ve been uh you’ve been retired for a minute uh but you’re still uh quite the young man so just give us an insight and you know I

Want to get too personal or anything but what’s life for Nick Johnson like these days chasing kids a lot of I got three kids so chasing them around um a lot of golf I’m working on my golf game so you know how tough that game is I heard you

Talk about that yeah uh so uh just trying to see how good I could get yeah you say it’s tough and I have not played with you Nick but Dave I don’t you get the feeling like if we showed up and Nick would just like pipe it like 350

You do you find that having played in those high pressure crazy in front of 50,000 people at Yanke Stadium type situations like do you still get into the mental competitiveness of golf and does your baseball career help you at times with that I’d like to say yes but golf way

Different you know I I I’d rather be on a ball field and have a three-foot putt to win the match uh the nerves in golf are are so much different but in golf you gota go you know you gotta go chase your foul balls too that’s so you really would rather be in

Know I love helping kids and uh you know just um got kids come over in the garage and just try to give them the basics where hit off the tea and and and take something home where you can continue to work and let the parents come in and

Listen and take a couple Nuggets home and go have fun with the game as we’re talking with Nick Johnson soon to be Sacramento Sports Hall of Famer so if we go back to your early days of growing up playing sports playing baseball obviously you’re becoming better and

Better you get to high school at mcache when did you know Nick that hey I might be able to take this to the highest of levels and someday be a major Leaguer I would say playing vars as a freshman that uh they get me a lot of confidence and confidence goes a long

Ways uh just play you know back then playing against Derek Lee over at El Camino and all those guys and all the scouts being out there but you know uh being a Freshman playing varsity I started getting that itch and and thinking man I’m I’m decent at this game

And then you just continue to work and and things progress from there how much pride also you know you’re in the middle of your career you’re trying to do your own thing but you mentioned Derek Lee over at El Camino or as I like to say

Winston shill Jor High uh but you also had you know depending on your timing you know you had Jeff Jenkins at corova Chris bosio um you had a lot of uh you know Greg vaugh a lot of local talent of which half of which seem to go to the

Brewers for some reason but all this local talent that was coming out of Sacramento in that period of time and I wouldn’t say you’re carrying that Legacy with you you but I got to imagine the 916 was always in the back of your head it was great D Sacramento back I

Wish it was still this way but uh the guys never big leagued us you know we would go work out with vaugh and V those guys that were in the big leagues but we were in the minor leagues and just to show us you know they’re showing us what

Hard work is getting up at you know 5:30 going to Rancho Royal back then and and uh just being able to rub elbows with those guys and work out with them was was huge well and I haven’t I have I’ve played a lot of golf with with vaugh I haven’t

Played with Vena but I’ll bet you he’s pretty decent do you get a chance to ever go out with any of these guys and see how they take their baseball swings down uh down a few feet to the little white ball yeah play with uh Greg quite

A bit yeah that guy he he has the he’s got phenomenal hands he’s he’s really special around the greens does he get you down to his spot in out Grove to flap it around or do you guys generally go uh nobody has home field advantage yeah when he’s in town you
