Staying behind the ball is such a vague term we want to position ourselves more on top of the ball especially for a lot of the players that we work with right A lot of these AMS who get one in front one way back you want to feel much more

On top of the ball than behind the ball so the first thing we want to mention here when we’re talking about covering the golf ball is ball position you’re looking at one of the best players in the world and his ball position is something we see that’s common among

Great players but not so common among regular golfers most golfers will cover the ball here at setup meaning they are putting the center of their hips and the Center of their chest on top of the ball when they set up to it the problem is

That we don’t want to be here at impact we want to move forward from this position and if you covered the ball here at setup when you move forward throughout the swing now the ball is dynamically in the back of your stance this Dynamic ball back position is

Responsible for so many golfers early releasing and flipping the club instead you’re going to be much better off like our Pro here and moving the ball forward so you aren’t covering it at setup but instead we’ll learn to frame it and cover it and imp

  1. What club is this with? 7i? 5i? Ball position moves with club so I assume not framing at setup isn't a hard fast rule, more of an intention framing idea?

  2. If it's a 7i, I feel like the ball should be between the am and pro position, maybe closer to the pro position. If i had to choose one, I'd do the forward one (big moe norman/ben hogan fan)

  3. I understand the point, but I’m also confused. Most coaches will tell you to place the ball in the middle of your stance when using a P wedge to 8 iron. Are you suggesting to move the ball slightly forward for all clubs respectively?

  4. Played with the ball closer to my lead foot for a season, and won 3 trophies, then went for a "lesson" who said that was wrong. That season, I won nothing and stagnated in HC. What a waste of money.

  5. AMG… you make a good point. And Hogan covered this in 5 Lessons and demonstrated with an overhead picture. Ball always off the lead heal. This seems to force the player to keep turning down and thru, suppressing the want to "early extend".
But, what of the covering of the ball when a low iron is required? Playing ball back then doesnt lead to early extension from what I can tell.

  6. I have moved the ball slightly forward of center and moving my hands slightly ahead of the ball initial lag.
I then keep that position with the club on the backswing and downswing, has transformed my swing. With a good relaxed shoulder rotation.
    Great tip!
