For the first time since Phil Mickelson in 1991 we have a winner on the pga tour with an (a) next to their name.

You all saw on here first yesterday Folks at the MX yesterday an event which really was a powderpuff event but Nick Dunlop 20-year-old sophomore from the University of Alabama hits this amazing shot into the 17th green pretty much giving him the solidification going forward and the confidence to be able to
Fight off Burns the last two holes but then burnsy tries to take a little Brave approach go right at the flag stick and ends up shanking it and off into the water giving a little bit too much fade boom it is in the wild in the drink
Burns absolutely falls apart here we all thought it was going to be Burns’s sixth official win even if you watch the the broadcast the broadcast kept saying Burns is going here for his sixth win his sixth win his sixth win and it’s because Nick Dunlop being an amateur in
No way did you think that he was going to actually close this out there’s only been two amateurs since 1960 to actually win a PGA Tour event one of them being Phil mikkelson one of the best golfers of the past of the past generation and arguably the best golfer to ever not
Reach world number one since the inauguration of the owgr in 1981 which of course the first player to actually reach the owgr number one was Bernard longer uh who by the way uh his master’s career will be finishing this season his this Master’s appearance this year will
Be his last Master’s appearance but the event ended up being a really interesting one obviously you guys know that I don’t like Powderpuff events where we have players just shooting ridiculous lights out and Nick Dunlop here I mean you know did an amazing job
He he did what he had to do to win uh it just sucks that it was an event where to me I don’t like events where you know you’re 27 underpar going into the last round obviously it was a a proam event so they do make it easier uh
Just for the sake of the pro of the amateurs so they don’t take forever and obviously because they’re playing with amateurs the pros are probably getting 17 looks at every single putt so they have a pretty pretty good opportunity to make these actual putts feel bad for Sam
Burns there as he double bogied the last two holes you know after he had that tremendous uh Le bad shot on 17 into the water he goes on and then misses the bogey Putt and then also double bogey the last hole giving him that loss to Nick Dunlop Nick Dunlop you are no
Longer going to be playing as an amateur anymore I guarantee you his last day of school is this morning the really interesting question with this going forward is what do you think the legacy of this kid going going forward ends up being that’s really the big question
Here because the kids already won the US Junior Amateur the US amateur he was a walker cup member last year they showed his I saw a graphic for his singles play record and it is insane I think he’s only lost two singles matches in a Rec in his recorded history as an amateur
Career this guy it’s funny how a lot of these college kids they seem to come out of nowhere obviously they’re not coming out of nowhere but those of us who follow the pro game very closely there’s only so much room for uh expanded knowledge that we have out there because
Obviously I can’t follow fourth billion people on golf so until somebody breaks the mold and breaks through they’re not really uh on our purview and it’s so amazing to see another 20-year-old player uh break through uh obviously we’ve had a lot of good players break through recently and it just seems to be
That every single year the college CR is is getting that much more refined and that much stronger and better and more adjusted and it’s making me start to wonder if golf really is turning away from being a sport that is dominated by um established uh uh
Players that have been there for a while you know the the late 30s and 40s players which hasn’t been the case for the for quite a while but you get what I’m saying for a long time golf has been one of those Sports where you can be dominant and be successful uccessful and
Be strong in the fields you know well into your late 40s and we do see many players actually hit kind of a stride around like 38 and then from like 38 through like 44 or 45 they seem to be very competitive you see a lot of rer
Cup appearances a lot of uh President’s Cup appearances a lot of good winners coming out of those brackets but what do you think the actual Legacy will be for a player like Nick Dunlop do we think that we go all in on him right now and see a lot of
Great things happen what do you think this does for Sam Burns because Sam Burns obviously was not planning on this happening he was not looking for uh for this kind of meltdown to really just kind of take him off the off his off his game off his Pace this was very much a
Clear situation where you know once he lapped Dunlop you know Burns had the clear-cut lead Dunlop had a very good back nine uh to kind of write the ship he never actually fell off the wagon but compared to his P his play the previous three days he wasn’t scoring with the
Same veracity and the course was still relatively easy um you know I think I think Dunlop had the worst round uh other than Burns himself out of the guys in the top 10 uh in fact if we look through this we can see right here uh
That you know Dunlop had two under Baden hoot had seven under you Kevin Yu had nine under shley had a seven under but the the group of Thomas Dunlop and burns two under four under one under they they they had one of the absolute worst Collective pairings I as far as scoring
Out there and it may have just been the fact that they’re the final group that they’re they’re more likely to hit more divots they’re getting the the the biggest shades on the greens yada yada yada insert comma here uh but at the ultimate at the end of the day you know
The pressure just got up there Sam Burns I think mentally collapsed I don’t think that he’s actually going to be severely damaged by this finish at all I think it just simply a mental break at the last hole you know once he hits it in the
Water he knows it’s not going to win and kind of just is at that point just just get off the course that was kind of his mentality I think at that point uh congratulations to CHR Christian B for been putting a great final round in to
Be able to secure first place money he secures first place money because Nick Dunlop was not a professional going into this event uh as you can see there was there were many great rounds still that were severely stronger uh than I prefer to see uh for for PGA
Tournament on this final round we see a 62 from Kevin Mitchell we see a a 63 from Kevin Yu couple seven a couple 65s right here from Maz and shafley showcasing to me once again that that the PGA Tour it needs to really re-evaluate things and I know people say
Well you know it’s a serious golf starts at Riviera and I understand that but at the same time guys I’m personally not a fan of watching these guys go out there and shoot 30 under par I’m not I really do like it when the guys are challenged on tour where you
Really aren’t expecting somebody to have a double bogey collapse in the last two holes Sam Burns you know made a mistake on that on that t-shot but at the same time you it’s the course isn’t set up to think bogey the course is set up to think birdie birdie
Birdie birdie and you can see it from how baz you shley Mitchell all played that course that day yes there were a couple overpar rounds near the very bottom you know players who are just you know trying to get off the course go to their next event they don’t care you
Know when you’re down near dead last place you’re either thinking one thing I’m either going to play lights out and get myself a slightly better paycheck or I’m going to get off the course and guys I’m tired of the PGA Tour putting together these events where where they’re just powder Puffs but that’s
Enough of that kind of grieving or whatnot guys congratulations to Nick Dunlop being the first amateur uh in a long long time since Phil Mickelson in 91 to be able to pull off a victory super epic super impressive I think we have a storied career ahead of him as
The only two amateurs uh since 1960 to win an event on the PGA tour are Phil Mickelson and Scott ver playan and and while scotford plank didn’t have the greatest career ever he’s still somebody who you know won several times in the PGA Tour was a longtime player on the
Tour so we can expect great things from Mr Dunlop thank you all have a wonderful day keep striping

The last to win with an (a) was a beast. Does Dunlap become a legend?
That was history in the making golf and fun to watch, so who isn`t happy when an underdog pulls out a win like that ? Next up, I would like to see Dunlap in Mayakoba on Rahm`s team. That might be too much of an earthquake event for the golf world in 2024 but hey, Rahm started it when he went to LIV anyways. So bring it on and get the popcorn.
I disagree. I think he’ll stay in school and putz around wasting time. Americans covet education and he didn’t actually win any money
If golf becomes a sport where randoms win all the time, it’s a sign that the game is getting easier and not harder.
Go back to difficult to hit clubs and you’ll weed out most of the fields.
Epic
Hey Jake did that guy claiming to be Sihwan Kim’s caddie a few months back ever pan out?
