Hey everyone Barry and Tammy here from over 50 golf we help golfers to move better so that they can swing better and today we’re talking about back pain for golfers and one of the main drivers of that we see with golfers is poor posture poor posture on the golf course poor
Posture off the golf course absolutely and when you’re in poor posture it makes it difficult for you to move properly and that puts excess pressure on the back so we’re going to show you some things you can do to help your posture on the golf course get you swinging
Better take the pressure off the back and some things to do off the golf course as well exactly okay okay so Tam’s going to show you some golf posture proper golf posture just set up in your posture here Tammy just your normal posture we can see she’s in nice
Neutral spine there hands and arms underneath her so this puts her in a good neutral position knees slightly flexed and her weights back here so she can easily turn back and forth and make a good fluid pivot and and take the stress off the back so it’s a very
Effective uh position to be in now typically we see a lot of golfers where they will they have problems in their upper body and what happens is they end up standing too far from the ball as compensations and they start bending over too much and then from this
Position here you’re going to start to put a little bit too much stress on the lower back and it’s tough to move and swing the golf club effectively so then you put extra stress on the back affects the swing and then we know start that whole cycle of poor shots and hurting
The body and that so so Tommy’s going to show you a technique you can do to help reset your posture off the golf course which will make it easier for you to get into good posture on the golf course absolutely so Barry why you come up here
And do it with me uh Barry’s going to use a rolled up towel I’m going to use my uh block here from block therapy so what we’re going to do to start with uh put the towel between your legs and I’ll put the block between my legs so we just want to stand
Squeezing um the tow between your legs have your toes facing forward have your knees soft we don’t want to hyperextend the knees just let your shoulders be relax down and then have the Palms facing forward now you want to be squeezing the towel or the block and
Engage the pelvis so you feel a slight shift of your pelvis forward so it puts a little bit more weight on the back of your heels this is great postural alignment so notice how this feels this is something you want to practice two or
Three times a day so that you can get a sense of how your body feels when you’re in proper posture alignment now you can also try it without the towel doing the same technique and again just notice how that feels you’re probably find you can’t engage your core and your pelvis as much
That’s why it’s real important to to use that towel when you’re doing this it’s going to go a long way to help your posture off the golf course but also on the golf course right bar yeah do that get you set up in this good neutral
Position up here and then from here it’s a lot easier to get set up in that correct golf posture you don’t have to stand far away from the ball so I can get set here I’m in my stance I’ve got my arms comfortably extended but they’re
Connected to me I’m not reaching out too much I’m from here and then I can just drop and settle down and put my arms down and I’m in that good neutral posture where I can move back and forth freely for a good doll swing so give
That technique a try at home three times a day if you can get your body back in proper posture alignment off the course and then when you’re on the course you’re going to be able to get into that proper setup very easily you’ll move better and swing better and play better
And have more fun and get rid of that back bit Barry and Tammy from over 50 golf we’ll see you again bye for now
