Can Homa Defend His Title?
Last year’s champion, Max Homa, returns hungry to reign supreme, with oddsmakers placing him at a tempting +1200. The ever-dangerous Justin Thomas sits closely behind at +1400, while rising star Scottie Scheffler lurks at +1600, ready to pounce. Don’t count out seasoned veterans like Phil Mickelson (+2500) and Bubba Watson (+3000) either – they’re known for pulling off magic on this challenging course.

125 to1 500 to1 and 300 to1 those are your three winners in 2024 welcome to tea time I am Edy Lang from wagertalk.com being joined as always by Nick Borman come on man where was the pick on the amateur last week Nick safe
Safe to say I am 0 and three so far on the outright Andy but it’s coming it’s this can’t continue but it is cool no it no it cannot continue you uh we’re going to break down the Farmers Insurance open and uh guys got to understand this tournament starts on Wednesday get your
Bets in get your lineups in uh they do this every year with the NFL so they’re not going head-to-head with the NFL on Sunday so this is a Wednesday start tournament we’re here to break down all of what you need to turn a profit at the Farmers Insurance open and we got an
Incredible promo code to share with everybody here in a little bit so but first let’s go over how this tournament Works um in the different courses Yes again we’re dealing with with multiple courses here so what what’s going to happen is these players are going to
Play one round on the North Course and one round on the south course that’s going to be Wednesday and Thursday a cut is going to be established on Thursday and then they will play on the south course on Friday and Saturday to determine the final winner final winner
And you got two courses that on the scorecards are probably going to look pretty different the north course it’s a short par 72 and we’ve got really beautiful weather this week we players are going to have to go low on this one and you’re going to have to go low just
To even make the cut you cannot stumble on the North Course especially on Thursday or Friday uh otherwise you’re going to be really really behind the eightball on that one there’s only one hole with water on it the greens are not too difficult to hit and as long as you
Hit your putts you’re going to be okay I think players are going to need to go minus three or better just to make the cut and I think the winner is going to have to look at minus five or minus six on this one to give themselves a real
Shot at winning the tournament we jump over to to the South course this is the longest course they’re going to play on tour it has teeth to it it’s so long Wayward shots will be penalized there’s seven par fives at 450 plus yards all the par fives are over 550 yards the
Rough could be tricky to hit out of and the texture of the greens can make putting difficult for players the last few weeks at least in my opinion it’s just been who’s who gets the really hot putter but uh this week Nick I’ll get your opinion on these courses we’re
Really looking at driving distance because the bombers do tend to do well and then we it is obviously comes down to putting but these greens can be so difficult to read especially if you don’t have a lot of experience so I normally put a lot more emphasis on
Current form than course history this is one of those weeks where I really really look at course history and see who does well because you will see a lot of players that consistently play well and some players that consistently do not play well so Nick what is your your take
On these courses and what stats we’re looking at for Success this week yeah no doubt I mean the South course is a major championship course right a couple us opens Tiger Woods of course 2008 broken leg win so obviously this will be the toughest of the this be
The fourth tournament so the toughest of the four tournaments so far for the players each of the last four years winning scores have fallen between 13 to 15 under so not in the mid to high 20s like we have seen definitely different this week uh you on the head as far as
The North Course being the one you got to score on on average Andy the last four years the scoring average has been between 2.1 to 4.2 Strokes easier on the North and the South that’s that’s obviously very significant so yeah that’s the course you got to take advantage of when
You can and you mentioned the length over 7700 yards is ridiculous and the rough is 4 in long so you know more penalizing than ever is when you’re missing drives yeah it’s tough hitting out of long grass but when you’re trying to hit a mid to Long iron out of tough grass it
Makes it that much more difficult so I’m this is probably the number one tournament for me as far as placing emphasis on Strokes gain off the tea guys that can drive the ball you know long and straight it’s important uh you don’t you know a lot of these shots
You’re going to have this week compared to some of the other weeks are 175 yards or more versus a lot of 125 150 yard shots so it’s totally different than we’ve seen uh unfortunately I think the field is a little weaker than we you know have seen in the past that’s
Because next week at the Pebble Beach is a signature event so you got guys taken off this week but still a great track I was here two years ago there’s a little there’s more elevation than I think anybody talks about when you’re there at least I remember huffing and puffing
Walking around the golf course because I was like man I keep feel like I’m walking uphill every hole I don’t remember ever going back downhill uh but it was uh it’s beautiful venue and as you mentioned it’s Southern California so the weather is not going to be an
Issue it’s a daytime High in the 60s no rain sunny every day so uh that shouldn’t be a factor but it’s going to be fun I I I like these kind of tournaments I like to see the guys um you know not overly struggle like a US
Open but still not a birdie Fest where you’re going to see in the mid 20s so this will definitely be uh guys that can hit their approach shots well and get off the tea well more than a putting Fest we’ve seen the last couple weeks yeah absolutely and guys if you
Could please hit the like button leave us a comment tell us tell us who you like this week uh there’s been the long shots have been unbelievable with wins in the first three weeks so if you got a long shot give it to us in the comment
Section if you like a head-to-head or a finishing position uh leave us and tell us what you like as well we’d love reading those comments and seeing where everyone is at so if you could hit the like button leave us a comment that’d be great let’s take a look at total Strokes
Gain Nick this is uh such an important stat to look at and we talked about uh you know talked about driving talked about you know you gotta drive it long and accurate but overall you know in a tough course you got to have an overall
Game so let’s take a look at at these total Strokes gained walk us through uh what kind of jumps out and what you’re going to be focusing on in this chart yeah as we always talk about this is my go-to for the outright Market uh
50 of the last 90 PJ tour events that goes back to the beginning of 2022 the winner has been ranked inside the top 10 over the last 12 months of course as you mentioned the long shot winners we are 0 for three uh so far this year but still
Those top 10 players have been peppered all over the leaderboard and very very close so they will continue to win um and the list here is who you’d expect to be it’s the top of the odds board you got you know the top four players basically on the odds board are the top
Four players in this graphic shafley kley morawa and H as your defending champion and then uh you know I like the next wave we’re starting to get some very good tiers on the next wave and uh that’s where I’m kind of looking you got guys uh like sjim uh Keegan Bradley at
30 to1 who almost won a couple weeks ago Eric Cole did me dirty last week finishing tie for 21st Boogie the last hole but still still playing very very well um LC abber I know we’ll talk about him zah theala has been playing well so
These are guys that are in that 30 to 4 to one range that I like this week as opposed to those top guys but it’s everybody you expect Andy and I put on here as we always do last 12 months last six months and last three months to make
Sure that the trend for the guys is still going in the right direction um for example you can see somebody like Tony phenow and Jason day in the top 10 over the last 12 months but in shorter periods of time have been Turing downward as they haven’t been playing as
Well more recently um so just something to keep in mind as well as I try to avoid the guys that are kind of going the wrong way in this graphic but that’s your top 10 for this week and uh looking forward to hopefully finding our out right winner in this graphic this week
Absolutely we’ve got a fantastic promo code for everyone this promo code works on myself and Nick and we do these promo codes it just gives a really really nice discount over a certain period of time uh to add to those Bank rolls at a disc discounted price there’s nothing better
So this is a 30-day pass for only $49 just use the promo code golf 49 g49 and this is a smoking deal I have a 5% play that is up this week that play alone is $35 there’s no reason to just get one play when you can lock in 30
Days for $49 you’ll get all plays attached to the 5% and Nick does a ton of outright plays finishing positions head toad matchups it includes all golf plays that we’re going to have 30 days for $49 all you have to do is go to wagertalk.com go to Nick borman’s page
Or go to my page at wagertalk.com put the promo code in and check out in an instant discount you’re not going to get much better than this 30 days for $49 is a smoking deal so grab that at wagertalk.com works for either one of us so we talk about players that we expect
To do well every week I do a segment on players that can trip you up these are players I think might be overpriced H that a lot of people are going to be betting on and I’m going to stay away Nick I’m going right to the very top
With Xander Schley he’s the betting favorite I guess I disagree with it but I’m not really sure who I would replace with him as the as a betting favorite honestly yeah you honestly it’s probably Mory Kawa but I just this is too big of a price on Xander shafley he has two
Really really good finishes to to start 2024 but I just don’t think this is the course for him to be the highest priced golfer he’s played here every year since 2016 he has one finish better than 13th last two years 13th and 34th and although his stats are really good he’s
Got to finish top three to return any type of value and I really am looking at course history as one of my big parameters and he just doesn’t have it I will not have him in any head dead matchups I won’t use him in DFS this
Week and I’m debating whether or not to put him in my uh my daily or my uh my seasonal fantasy lineups I probably am going to save him this this is just not a course that he’s thrived at so Xander Schley my first player that can trip you
Up up next you mentioned him so Tony fow has incredible course history here uh five top 10 in the last seven years but you mentioned it I’m not liking what I’m seeing from him right now and this goes back to last year there were a lot of live rumors Sur surrounding Tony feno
And his game just didn’t look really really dialed in and sure enough this year it it hasn’t really as well I cashed on him in the first week against Ricky Fowler but it was not exactly the most confident win ever and he’s been the featured group so you’ve been able
To watch him and it’s just it’s not there and it comes down to putting minus 0.44 Strokes gain putting the last six months and if he putts like that this week uh he’s not going to finish anywhere near the top 10 and that’s where you’re going to need Tony fow to
Finish to you know justify playing him maybe you might be able to find a good head-to-head matchup with him but Tony feno despite the good course history I’m not going to be playing him this week and Nick this one hurts this this this is painful to say but Eric Cole is now
Priced too high we’ve had a year of Eric Cole being consistently underpriced he’s been a DFS Superstar always undervalued now the books have him priced as a top 12 golfer this week so sadly there’s just no value the books have not only the books catch up but they caught up
Real quick and they moved him way up the board so he’s not that long off the te not super accurate and I just think the South course could give him some real problems in the last six months he’s minus 0.44 Strokes gained putting um it’s just it’s not it’s just not a great
Uh it’s not a great fit for him style-wise because like you talked about if he puts it in the rough this is just going to be a tough tough ask for him so um would I put him in DFS if he was much lower priced yeah AB absolutely I would
But uh for the price that he’s at this week sadly our guy Eric Cole I feel like there’s no value on him and uh I know Eric Cole did you dirty last week by Bing his last hole of the tournament so it feels like Eric Cole has fallen out
Of our good graces right one shot one one Ti from 21st and my top 20 bet hurts so he otherwise I would have been right back on him for another top 20 this week but it’s funny how uh how much we our opinions can change by one result like
That right and uh so Eric hle leav me off this week maybe we’ll talk again next week come on Eric Cole get back our good graces buddy uh Nick you want to talk about an outright winner uh who are you focusing on this week yeah uh this one I actually I was
Trying to look back at my my notes on you know I tend to bet a lot of the same outrights over time until they can’t come through and sahit tala is one I really haven’t bet a lot and I like him this week you know Max H is often the
Guy you talk about when you know the tour is visiting Southern California and for good reason but tala has some good results out west as well let’s not forget he won the foret championship just back this past September and he’s played well here each of the last two
Years he finished 20 2022 and T fourth last year so clearly knows what he’s doing around this this venue for an odd twist of fate Andy last year’s winner at the farmers maxom also won the preceding foret so maybe that’s just weird coincidence sign for tala this week if
You don’t believe in signs then we’ll go we’ll talk about some good oldfashioned data for tala despite the miscut at the Sony Open tala finish runner up at the Sentry which is part of a run of five top 20 finishes in his last eight starts he’s also been very strong with his ball
Striking he ranked six in the field in Strokes gain Tia green over the last six months and finally no one is going to survive three days around the South coure without without having to do a little bit of scrambling you’re just it’s too long and it’s too difficult to
Not miss greens and Fairways and nobody has been better in this field than thala who ranks first in Strokes gained around the green over the last six months so I like that for him this week and at 35 to one right now for him to to have chance
Or be up there near the top I think is a pretty decent price on thala let’s take a look at DraftKings Darlings uh The Underdogs have been outright winners but there’s been some really really good lower price guys in DraftKings I’ve cashed every single week and the
Draftking dings are a big big part of it you get these lower pric guys through to the weekend and they get you weekend points and then you let your bigname players get the top finishes so it’s important to look at these lower PRC guys and I am looking at horses for the
Courses this week I’ll start with Peter Mady at 6,300 very very low priced and he has not been good recently I cannot ignore his course history here he’s finished 10th 25th and 20th here the last three years I just need him to make the cut get some
Weekend points I just at this price I will roll the dice and I will trust that his course history outperforms his recent finishes he’s low price for a reason but great course history Can’t Ignore at 6,300 up next our old buddy lanto Griffin at 6,800 this is another
Guy priced low but he plays good here he’s finished 7th 30th and 37th the last three years made the cut the last two weeks his driving putting have been pretty good his approach shots have been his Achilles heel but he loves this place I’ll take him at this low price
Just to make the cut 6,800 and then Michael Kim has been playing really well he’s made the cut here in five out of the last six times he’s played here made the cut last week’s sixth place finish last week um putting and approach game has been really good plus 0.56 putting plus
0.44 approach and he’s made the cut in six straight tournaments dating back to last season he’s only 7,300 so I can start off my lineup with Peter Milady atlanto Griffin and Michael Kim that leaves me a lot of money to play with in the lineup I do have my uh article up it
As a free digital download at wagertalk.com just go to Andy Lang profile page free digital download you’ll see my full entire DFS lineup in there as well as some other things that’s free to everybody so you can check that out at wagertalk.com Nick we’ve got a finishing position bet and
Love getting plus money at these this is a fantastic price on a guy that had an amazing finish here last year who do you like this week yeah sorry I just have to say uh I don’t know the last time I heard somebody say our old buddy lanto Griffin so well said there
Andy uh my my top 20 selection for this week uh Keegan Bradley is somebody I haven’t been betting I probably should should be betting because he has been performing very well kind of one of those other guys that’s had a Resurgence in his career after kind of Disappearing
For a little while but less known I guess you could say or than than Jason day and and Ricky Fowler as far as Resurgence goes but Keegan Bradley I really like I mean he took the week off last week he lost in that playoff at the
Sony Open which was his fourth top 20 in his last five starts he also loves playing in this tournament as he hasn’t missed a start here dating back to 2011 during that span he does have two Mis Cuts uh both of those happen to come on horrible putting weeks but his T degree
Numbers have been positive every single year he’s played here which is 12 starts he has seven top 25 25 excuse me finishes in his 12 starts including three top fives in just the last six years I me we mentioned distance right already for this week it’s it’s a big
Factor Keegan has plenty of it he’s averaged more than 10 yards on the field over his last 10 starts so that’s a that’s a good metric to look at on a guy that’s going to be hitting you know a club or two less than most players in
The field he’s also gained Strokes on approach in every start during that span and another stat likely to matter this week is approach over 200 yards where Keegan ranked 15th on tour in proximity last season and while putting obviously important on any given week Bradley can
Also get as hot as anyone in he ranks 20th on tour in Strokes gain putting last season so I like keing and Bradley to continue his good play he’s plus 150 right now for a top 20 at bet MGM and we always talk about it but if you have
Access to betmgm it is the best leaderboard book to bet at because they pay out full in ties uh so if you can go there but plus 150 on him right now is a great price yeah always check the rules on your book especially with those finishing positions the the difference
Between the Dead Heat rules and the uh payout full on ties is just massive I always always play it at books that pay out full on ties I’m willing to lay a little bit of extra juice just to have that safety and protection so it is it’s
A brutal feeling when you tied and you end up losing you’re like wait he’s in there I mean May made it but uh so check your book and check your rules here we got some Betty notes to go over but just want to remind everybody one more time
About that promo code golf 49 gets 30 days for $49 I have a 5% play that is up right now we are five- one to start the year on golf bets this is a head-to-head matchup that is available everywhere so I would recommend using that promo code
Golf 49 get 30 days for $49 uh Nick tell everyone what you have up and where we can find you at sure uh this week’s PGA pack is up right now $29 includes all outrights and leaderboards but you mentioned Andy best deal is obviously get the 30-day golf pass and uh soccer
Is in full swing and we have uh European all leagues in full swing and Champions League returning in a couple weeks but uh best deal of all will be MLS which starts in one month’s time five straight winning years Andy can’t wait to get this season going uh right now we’ll
Have it up uh before the end of this week uh this year’s full full season package as we go for winning year number six but really really excited about that coming up here soon awesome great work on that just some betting notes for everybody and Nick get your opinion on there’s a
Couple I really would like your opinion so Patrick klay’s best finish here is 51st and he has not played here in four straight years I was talking to a I was talking to a buddy of mine is there a chance he just doesn’t like this course and that’s why he hasn’t played
It actually this is I I didn’t know that any of that until just said that right right here but so probably I mean why unless the schedule I’m trying to think back at the old schedule what was was Pebble Beach always right afterwards and he’s not like he’s playing you know I
Guess he’s playing there every year in the past he like chooses one over the other but that’s that’s a good note because list I don’t have kley anyway but that alone would make me want to avoid him yeah second highest price golfer that hasn’t played here in since
2019 finished miscut the year before that 51st so I obviously he’s a much different player now than he was back then but still kind of curious um Christian bazun has finished top 10 in three out of last four tournaments he’s played in there’s another lower price
Guy uh Luke list who has won this tournament in what was it 2022 I believe he’s finished 40th or better in six straight tournaments he’s made the cut in nine straight so you could look at luk list who’s got a pretty good course history here Jason
Day and Sun JM these are the only two golfers in the field who have finished top 10 two years in a row at this course so um that that’s kind of interesting and then I had to note uh welcome back Daniel Burger welcome back will zalatoris solid finishes last week both
Coming back from pretty serious injuries I mean will zorus had the back injury uh pretty serious surgery on there and he was uh just horrific in his first couple tournaments but made the cut solid finish and Daniel Burger was that a top 40 finish this week so it’s it’s like
Okay we got two guys who when they’re at their best these are top 10 guys you know week in and week out so I just thought that was a really really good sign uh that we get zalot torus and burger who both look pretty good so just
Uh I thought that was pretty cool um that we got them back I had it’s been so long I lit I legit had forgotten about Daniel Burger we haven’t seen him in so long I like I saw him last week I was like oh my God Daniel Burger welcome
Back so so uh those are those are a couple betting notes for everyone so all right once again reminder this tournament starts on Wednesday get all your bets in get all your lineups in uh don’t be the guy that logs in Wednesday to put your bet in and you see that your
BET’s already 12 hours old as it started so good luck on all your plays please give us a like leave us your best comment and Nick and I will be back next week for another edition of a star studded tournament next week next next
Week is going to be a lot of fun and we’ll be here to break it down and give you all the best bets and information the turn of profit good luck in your plays we’ll see you over next week on tea time

Good stuff. I am taking Harris English Outright w/ 5 each way, Also Ben Griffin T-40
Here’s my only question to you. On your “Players that can Trip You up” firstly, yes form is something that you would like to see however like you began your show saying Course History is more important than Form im some respect. Like Malnati never has form and He seems to out of nowhere find His game at this track. Just comfortable. Also Finau same. Although Finau’s Putting could look problematic if You look at His better putting performance from the past he’s gained strokes i believe 5/6 at this event. So theres that. I get weighing the options at the price points-Value and risk/reward.
Immediately leaving the video after 1:59. Guy says that players will have to shoot at-least 3 under to make the cut and the winner will have to shoot 5-6 under to win lol…. What’s the logic here
Its hard to believe that the PGA has.joined the betting band wagon along with everyone else, like the NFL. This has happened without even a thought towards creating another generation of compulsive gamblers.
Thanks guys
