The PGA TOUR continues on the West Coast this week for the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines Golf Club. For the third-straight year, this event will be played from Wednesday through Saturday. Max Homa returns this week to defend his title. Alongside winning the Nedbank Golf Challenge in South Africa in November, Homa has not finished worse than T21 since missing the cut at the Travelers Championship last June. Xander Schauffele will also be in California this week. He’s making his ninth start in San Diego where his best finish was T2, five shots off the winner in 2021. The American claimed T10 at The Sentry and T3 last week at The American Express to start the new season. Australian Min Woo Lee will also be in California this week after closing out 2023 winning twice in his last five events worldwide, including victories in Macau and Australia. He’ll be looking to improve on the T21 he managed last week at The American Express. Others to look out for are Collin Morikawa, Patrick Cantlay and Sungjae Im.

[Applause] this is this is one this is the guy here that once he gets that heater going he does it shy [Applause] away for kentley yeah he’s coming a little more directly up the hill [Applause] excellent set the PGA to a record for a number of Bird’s

Made he’s sneaky long he he’s just kind of calmly long hits it so solid I mean he hits it on the button so many times I mean he’s right there I mean contact is so important right there out to the right at [Applause] theend just the right temperature for

Klay and it falls he’s two under through two what we nor normally see from Patrick love the way these guys drive down the line you can see that right shoulder much everything complete I mean you start looking at can’t lay the swing sure he and Jamie Mulligan

Well out of the rough we go to the second Patrick KL this is on the North Course and he finds the Fairway setting up just slightly left of it maybe at that tree in the background oh if this drifts a little right this is really good looking

Oh yeah he’s going to enjoy that he’ll have another great look at birdie there yeah yeah he’s got a good round going driving the ball great no Bogies get off to a real fast finish here on the fifth this one up the left hand side oh nice kick take

That this one should bend a little bit left or right Green’s all meant to be running just a Shad over 12 so which is amazing considering the weather that they’ve had here in this area the last week or so take it down there and hit another Thunder

Drive kind of get a sense that he’s holding the Finish just to delay going down to get the te so it doesn’t look like he is swinging 13 147 excuse me that’s a pitching W just got to control the spin back there this back flag and he

Did over on the other Golf Course his buddy can’t lay for birdie Fantastic look here just a gentle right to Le [Applause] yep oh beautiful Patrick kley for birdie and the lead all by himself 600 par now for patri wind a little bit off the right bunker 307 is’s going right at that

Bunker I think that should cut come up short he was taking a long look at it he’s fine 263 also a Freewood oh this one’s kind of flared up into the wind off the right towards that bunker I don’t think it’s going to carry that bunker

Did get flag all the way the other side of the green it’s pretty good Aaron yeah that came out lower that had to be that middle wedge that he carries and he does that’s a 65 for Patrick he’s the first man to reach seven underpar look at that finish four birdies in his

Last five holes I remember it was 28 miles an out right now Patrick hlay 7 under 65 well played what are your takeaways from day one here at Tori yeah got off to a good start off on the North Course um you know you got to take advantage of

That course a little bit I think it’s a little easier than the South and with this uh mild wind and and really soft conditions there’s it’s scorable out there we talked about the rain here in the area over the last few days you alluded to the soft conditions how did

That potentially alter the game plan of of trying to go extra low yeah it’s a little easier to uh get the golf ball to end up where you want uh especially the hole locations were particularly difficult on North today but because it’s so soft the ball kind of lands and

Just stops right there so uh I played from the Fairway a lot today which was key the rough’s really long and wet um so I was happy with how I played today I thought it was a good round we discussed on the broadcast a lot of California ties with successful

Performances here at the farmers with your ties to the state why do you think California guys do so well at this event probably the grass um and then the golf ball also traveling a lot shorter than usual um which is something I’m used to Growing Up just a couple hours up the

Road from here um you know I think anytime you feel comfortable uh around a golf course it helps and I definitely feel comfortable around here at the start of a new year how are you as an individual in terms of setting goals writing them down trying to achieve things here in

2024 yeah I don’t I have more process goals so um making sure that I’m getting the proper work in and prepping the right way making sure that I’m doing all the things off the course uh I can possibly do to set myself up for success

That’s really how I look at it and uh I expect to contend each and every week thanks for watching the PJ Tour on YouTube watch another video right here

  1. I played here 2 weeks ago & our group lost at least a dozen balls in the fairway roughs, yet Cantlay shoots 8 under. Incredible stuff🏌️‍♀️
