Four sweet-toothed golfers took part in the Dubai Dessert Challenge, presented by DP World, ahead of it’s close relative, the Dubai Desert Challenge..
DP World, the title partner of the Tour and leading provider of smart logistics solutions, challenged the chosen players to identify four popular desserts. But they had to attempt it blindfolded.
The challengers were Seven-time DP World Tour winner, Tommy Fleetwood, Ryder Cup Vice-Captain, Nicolas Colsaerts, 2012 Dubai Desert Classic winner, Rafa Caberea-Bello and Rolex Challenge Tour Grand Final winner, Marco Penge.
The four desserts were: Key Lime Pie, Tiramisu, Mango Rice Pudding and Strawberry Cheesecake.
Fleetwood, who is coming off a brilliant win at the Dubai Invitational, kicked things off and set a pattern by correctly identifying the Pie and Tiramisu, but then struggling with the fruity offerings. He scored 2 points
“It’s funny that the two with any form of fruit in them weren’t really my favourites. I don’t know whether that’s a good sign or not – thank you very much. Good breakfast!”
Next was Cabrera-Bello – the Spaniard taking the lead with 2.5 pts, after guessing the Tiramisu, and the Strawberry cheesecake, and half-guessing the Key Lime Pie
He was followed by the big Belgian bon-viveur Nic Colsearts who finished last with a generous 1.5 points. He guessed the t iramisu and got a half-point for describing the Mango Rice Pudding as ‘Riz-au-lait, a similar French pudding.
Last but not least was the half-English, half-Italian Marco Penge who shared the spoils with 2.5 points.
His taste buds certainly didn’t desert him
