In this video, I test out the Ivan Ballesteros Sweet Spot putter from IB Designs. This putter was created by Ivan Ballesteros (nephew of Seve Ballesteros) after years of research and designing to make sure that the putter was exactly how Ivan envisioned it to be. How difficult do you think it is to put with one of the worlds smallest putters with a head not much bigger than a golf ball?

[Music] hello and welcome to the heart of cheshire where I’m with this Ivan ballesteros Sweet Spot putter a putter that was designed by the nephew of the late seve ballesteros so let’s take a look at it now and see what this putter is all about I wasn’t planning on doing
A video on this as I didn’t think there would be that much interest in it but it always seems to be the first putter that people pick up when they go over to the putter stand looking for a new Putter and a lot of the time people do actually seem genuinely interested in
This putter up until the point where they see the £350 price tag on it I’m not saying that that’s too expensive or it’s priced well I’m just simply pointing out what I’ve seen and well to be honest I think I am the best person to be testing out this putter as if
You have ever seen me put before then you will know that I love to low toe my putts the main thing with this putter is of course that it is about quarter of the size of a normal
Putter and you wouldn’t be the only person if you were wondering why that is well the idea behind it is actually pretty simple and it’s just meant to help you focus more and concentrate more when you are putting with it if you’re trying to find one of these Putters
And you live in the UK or Ireland then you are in luck because they are currently available in 90 different stores and throughout 2024 they’ll be available in Japan China and America one thing that would drive me mad if I did own this putter, well two things actually one of
Those being the head cover because it is a centre shafted head it is difficult to find a head cover that will fit it and just because of how small it is it does take absolutely ages to try and
Get it onto your putter head and the second thing with the square cut out underneath it does get quite dirty and it is quite difficult to clean during your round so only two minor issues really but two that could get quite annoying when you’re having to use it on every hole
It isn’t actually a completely revolutionary idea with at least two other brands doing a similar thing in the past the best thing I think about this putter though is that if you really wanted to you could actually use it left-handed as well as right-handed and because
It is a Putter and not a chipper or any other club it is fully legal to play in competition I’m actually finding the middle better left-handed than I am right handed the IB putter comes in either a black or a chrome finish 34 inches in length as
Standard and has 35° of Loft with the shaft in the exact centre of the putter with one of the nicest grips that I’ve ever seen the weight of it though does feel really heavy and on
The website it says that it has a weight of 373 G which even for a standard head is quite heavy let alone for a head that is quarter of the size of a normal head and so I decided to
Weigh it against an odyssey AI Putter and they both actually came up at exactly the same weight of 551 gram one thing I wasn’t too sure how they’re going to work out with a longer puts with this so bear in mind I do always tow my puts and earlier when I wasn’t
Concentrating I did hit a few right off the end of the putter and it was basically a shank with a putt but once you get used to it and you’ve hit a few and you are concentrating it does actually work really well and it does gauge the pace quite well on longer putts
[Music] I think with pretty much any putter how easy they are to aim is always a big focus and that is one of the key points that they mention and I can see what they mean by that I mean the
Top Line does run all the way to the front of the face and the other two lines are quite low down and obviously take up the hole of the putter with the shaft being quite far back I always feel
Like I need to forward press it a lot and that does mess with the alignment slightly so that’s quite a weird sensation I’ve been using that putter for about a week now and I’ve just gone back to my own putter to have a putt with this and the heads never looked so
Big on it before actually to the point where it maybe looks too big now what I have been finding with these longer putts is that there isn’t really any in between so they’re either
Always really good or in some cases really bad and I think that just comes down to how small the head is and just not having any room for error for me the difficult part isn’t actually trying to
Find the centre spot and the fact that it has such a small head for me the difficult part is actually trying to put a nice smooth stroke on it just seems to exaggerate anything that you might
Be doing in your stroke and that is more evident for the type of stroke that you have as a sweet spot putter really will only work properly with a pendulum type of motion so if you have any sort
Of Arc in your stroke when using The Sweet Spot putter you might find yourself not being able to get the most out of it so being basically just a sweet spot on a putter you would think it would
Be quite difficult to not find the middle of the face but I can definitely assure you that you can still miss the centre and in fact there is still quite a big difference in feel between finding
The centre and not finding the centre but when you do hit the middle I would say that it would have to be up there with the best feeling putters on the market so to finish off I just had one last
Test to do with the Ballesteros putter I wanted to compare it to my own putter that I have been using for the last 10 years or so which of course has a normal sized head but more importantly assists me
With my toe strikes quite well so I set up tees at 3 feet 6 feet 10 feet 18 feet and 20 feet away from the hole and I had 20 putts with each the Ballesteros and my own putter so the first three
Stations were pretty similar and pretty equal from 34 I hold 20 out of 20 with The Sweet Spot butter and 19 out of 20 with my own but then from 6 foot it was the other way round with 17 out of 20 with
Mine and holing 16 out of 20 with the ballesteros and then from 10 ft away I holed 14 with each one so when I got to the 18 ft station they were both tied with the same amount of putts holed but that
Is when the similarities ended and the difference started to show a bit more from 18 ft away I holed 13 with my own Putter and just eight with The ballesteros Sweet Spot putter but to be fair to
The ballesteros there was a couple in there which were really close on the edge of the hole other than them there were another 10 which were really nowhere near the hole and I think I would put that
Down to needing a more straight back and straight through stroke which did show even more in the 25 feet away station with 20 out of 22 puts for my own Putter and just 16 with the ballesteros with
Three three puts in there with actually one of them dropping in for a one put so I think this putter can work really well I don’t think it works how people would intend it to work and I think
It will suit better putters more and people who already have a good stroke but more importantly people who find the centre of the face like me for example who does toe it I will struggle with something like that more than obviously something with a bigger head You could argue and I will need
To find out that if I did stick with the Ballesteros putter over time then it might actually be more beneficial it might actually work as a long-term training aid so I actually really enjoyed using this putter obviously it’s something very different to what we used to I don’t think I
Liked it quite enough or have enough trust in it to put it into my bag permanently and on that note that has been all for today so as usual thanks for watching and I will see you all in the next one
