Hello welcome to your simple golf swing I’m Matt in this video I’m going to talk to you about a power source that you’re not using I even find it in some of my students I have to point this out to them and and explain to them hey you’re
Not quite getting this part right I first discover the importance of this power source after I had already hon the Mike Austin Mike dunway swing and come up with my own teaching Theory and everything hitting the ball really nice hitting it nice straight long drives uh
Hitting all of my irons with with really good accuracy and distance well some things came about in my life where I had to step away from golf for a little while and when I came back into golf I noticed I had lost a little distance not
Only had I lost a little distance I was pushing my drives to the right and I was pulling my irons to the left and for the life of me I couldn’t figure out what was going wrong well I want to discuss that little journey of mine with you and
Show you how that helped reinforce for something that I had been teaching something that I had known but I was neglecting in my swing and it cost me distance cost me accuracy cost me consistency before I get into that and tell you that story and tell you how you
Can incorporate this power source into your swing I just want to welcome all the new viewers please take some time to look through my my channel you’ll see I’ve loaded lots of videos that help give you increased distance and accuracy and really help improve your game if you
Want to learn the swing a lot faster and you’re interested in my online course please go down into the description you’ll see a link that you can click on and get yourself signed up for my online course okay let’s get back into the lesson
So like I said I had lost distance I was pushing my driver to the right and I was pulling my irons what was causing this well at first I tried to fix it by for that the that push to the right I started trying to move my arms a little faster well
That introduced independent arm swing which if you’re a regular viewer you know I preach a lot against independent arm swing we need to use our body to swing those those arms around and and and get that club into the into the ball it also led me to start turning my hips
A little slower to try to get those arms to catch up that wasn’t working either what what that happen what that caused to happen is I would still occasionally push it and more often than not I would yank it left like I was doing with my
Irons what I discovered when I went back through the the different videos that I filmed and I went back through Mike Austin and Mike dunway and kept searching and searching and searching what am I getting wrong what what aren’t I doing right I was doing my Pivot
Properly I was turning the shoulders I was doing the hand action right what was causing me to push the drive pull the irons well it’s going to be something that may seem a little counterintuitive to you well if you’ve seen Mike dunaway’s rope drill he’s standing there
And he’s got a rope with a little eyepiece put in the ground there and he’s holding it and he’s demonstrating the shoulder and the hip the pivot with the shoulder and the hip um I took another look at that and I realized something that I was doing wrong when I
Was going into my back swing I was getting the pivot proper I was turning my shoulders I was feeling like I wasn’t getting as much of a shoulder turn so I would overturn those shoulders and that would just cause all kinds of problems what I discovered was actually it was my
Back swing that was causing me to lose distance push my driver to the right and pull my irons and I’m going to explain that to you in my back swing I was getting lazy I was getting the weight shift right and I was turning my shoulders but this hip I was leaving
Back here what you really need to do is you need to make sure that when you straighten this right leg and you bend this left leg you let that hip turn around now why does that make a difference well if you seen my video on
The swing speed lie we want to get all of our Mass behind the ball and that that means get our whole body behind the ball we we get a much bigger turn when we let this hip come around and then we sling into it well with the driver if
You’re not turning your hips all the way around if you’re restricting them and then you start that swing around you don’t have time to get that club head all the way back to square and it’s going to leave that face open a little bit and it’s going to send it off to the
Right on the irons which are much shorter clubs what What’s Happening Here is because you’re not turning all the way your arms are coming through too fast because they’re not being pulled anymore now it’s more of an arm swing and you you’ll come through too fast
With a closed face and you’ll pull it so what I did is I started incorporating a bigger turn with my left hip into my back swing and when I started to do that I got a lot more turn out of my shoulders and it timed everything up
More perfectly so now when I swung around I actually came through with a lot more velocity a lot more acceleration coming into the ball and that closed my club face on my driver it also my arms on my my iron swing I could feel that I didn’t I
Didn’t have that urge as much to try to overtake everything with my arms because now I was creating the time I needed to get them to come around a nice it right here and hit off my side and that started to straighten everything out so if you really want to increase some
Distance get your timing better and square that club face up to where you’re hitting straight drives and straight irons this is a power source you need to use you need to get that hip to turn around Dunaway in Austin they described it as your right side is like a fence
Post and this side is like a gate on your back swing and you want to swing this gate around that fence post like you’re opening up a gate and then when you go back you’re going to feel a lot more snap coming through it will also
Allow you to keep your head behind the ball easier now this gate this is the fence post and the gate is swinging around this way so go out and give that a try you’ll find that it’s really going to help you increase your ball striking you’ll hit the ball a lot further you’ll
Hit it a lot straighter in a lot more consistency or with a lot more consistency so I hope this helps go out and give it a try uh let me know down in the comments what you think and if you would please hit the like button if you
Hit the like button it helps send my videos out to more people and I really appreciate that thanks so much for watching have a great day

Another great video
Great analogy, Matt re: opening a gate around the gatepost. Sometimes we end our pivot prematurely in our desire to get back to the ball as quickly as possible when we make a backswing. 👍
Good tip. Should help with timing.
