Are DTC Golf Balls Actually Good? ODIN X1 Test and Review

Today we are going to do a full test, review, and data analysis of the ODIN X1 golf ball. ODIN is a DTC or Direct To Consumer brand that produces both a premium urethane golf ball and a cheaper ionomer/surlyn golf ball. We will be testing the X1 today which is the premium model, and it will take on the Pro V1 which is the main golf ball that the ODIN X1 compares to in terms of performance and compression. Can the ODIN hang with the Pro V1, and is it good enough to put into your bag? Make sure to watch until the end to find out!

Welcome Friends to muskrat links today we’ve got a super exciting video we are going to be testing the Odin X1 versus the Titus pro1 let’s do It all right before we get into this video let’s talk some facts and figures about this golf ball real quick and I mean real quick because I’m still sick I don’t want to talk much let’s just hit some golf balls so the Odin X1 is Odin’s urethane offering right they also offer

An Iona or a Surin covered ball as well that’s obviously not for us we’re just looking for the premium urethane stuff these golf balls were manufactured in the launch Technologies Factory in Taiwan and if you guys remember it was about maybe like 5 months ago or so that

Factory actually burned down quite a bit or took a substantial amount of damage from a fire so I’m not sure if they’re still produced there I don’t know if that factory is still operational or partially operational or whatever the ioner cover ball was made in China at a

Different Factory the factory that these premium urethane balls are made at also makes balls for Callaway I think they make the ERC soft and the super soft which we found a ton of this year golf ball hunting uh they also make balls for tailor made some of the more common

Two-piece balls for some other people they also produce golf balls for some of the other director consumer Brands like Encore seed penfold sugar and then obviously Odin as well so the question is does this ball perform like the prov1 like it claims and does this have the durability the consistency just like

Titus Odin claims that this ball has a compression of 86 again that is a manufacturer claim not an independently tested claim usually I tell you guys go to my golf spy they do a lot of great independent testing so I went and looked at some balls that were also 86 or right

Around 86 rated and I’ve got those right up front for you here we’ve got the prov1 we’ve got the tp5 we’ve got the Srixon Zar and we got the Vice Pro so that will kind of give you at least an idea of about what the compression for

This ball is supposed to be but again it hasn’t been independently measured by my golf spy yet so take that with a grain of salt obviously as you guys know by the title of the thumbnail we’re going to put it up against the prov1 today out

Here on the SIM imator we’re going to do driver we’re going to do seven iron we’re going to do the 58° wedge you guys know how it works we’re going to alternate between the balls and guys make sure to tap that subscribe button I love doing these cool golf ball testing

Videos especially for these more fun directed consumer balls you guys might be playing out there on the course too I bought these mostly because the name Odin is the name of my brother’s dog so I gave a bunch to him and I figured I would test some for myself so let’s jump

Over to the simulator and see how it does as usual guys all the opinions I share are completely my own this is not a sponsored video if this ball is crap I’ll tell you if this ball is good I’ll tell you but we are data driven golfers

As you guys know so it’s all going to depend on how it feels but mostly what the simulator says we get for numbers here right make sure to watch until the end as well because we’re going to crack one of these puppies in half and see

What the inside looks like and also Odin does a cool thing where if you buy their balls they give you I think a percentage of the purchase back to use on future purchases so that’s kind of cool and a good way to engage customers as well and

To keep people buying your golf balls I suppose so all I care about is how it actually plays out there and what the the numbers say so let’s jump right into this test you guys know how it works here eight shots we’re taking the best six seven iron first leading off with

The Odin X1 let’s go all right first swing here with the Odin you guys know how it is we just got a ton of snow out there I had to do snow blowing I’m sick the numbers aren’t going to be as good as they normally are let’s get all the

Excuses out of the way early you’re not a golfer if you don’t make a bunch of excuses so all right let’s see if we can just uh strike this first seven iron right down the center of this uh this driving range okay here’s the issue some

Of you might notice uh it’s daytime now that is because it is the next morning I actually forgot to turn on OBS last night when I did this so we’re out here we’re going to try it again so I might keep a couple tidbits in from last night

When I was talking about things all right let’s hit some shots and let’s get this data all right seven iron Odin up here first let’s go pretty decent looking first shot here pulled it off to the left just a hair that’s not too bad distance numbers looking pretty good 18° launch angle

5,500 backspin 114 ball speed all right let’s hit some more see how we do and that one’s got a little bit more of my ball shape to it we got a little bit of a fade left to right there pretty bang on numbers as well looking good one

Thing I do notice right off the bat it is a little bit like darker or duller than the prov1 like the paint isn’t quite as bright white again does that mean anything probably not but just something I noticed the good thing about doing this all over again we actually get to

Compare two sets of data at the end so make sure you’re watching till the end for that and also we’re going to be chopping this guy in half I really want to see what the inside of one of these Odin golf balls looks like all right let’s keep

Rolling well we had a couple Fades and a group of draws over there as well so let’s see if we can put one more maybe just straight right down the pipe that would be ideal then it’s over to the prov1 pretty good push it a hair off to

The right but again that’s going to be some good looking data nice little cluster right there on the right nice little cluster on the left onto the Prov view one now with the seven iron let’s see how we do and see how it Compares as

You guys know I play the Vice Pro Plus which is a little bit firmer than both of these balls so these numbers are in general going to be a little bit lower just because both these balls are going to be a little bit slower than the ball

I normally play so we’ll see what we get from the Prov one I’m expecting it to be you know about the same as the Odin right that’s what they advertise decent first ball there definitely pulled that one off to the left a little bit but it’s going to go

Right into the pile with the other Odin ball so it’s in good company so far 16° launch angle 5,000 backspin 119 ball speed ball speed might be a little higher just cuz I’m warming up again a little bit so that’s to be expected but we’re not really caring too much about

Distance but we’ll keep an eye on that in the data and there’s our token fade the kind of normal shot shape I expect it’s going to put itself right over there with the Odin ball so we’ll see if we get the same effect where I have some draws some

Fades and we form two pockets we’ll find out I’d like to be a little more consistent is what I’d like to be not going to hit greens if I don’t know where the ball’s going there we go we go that’s another decent looking one heading right up there for the pile good

Shot 16° launch angle 5600 backspin 118 ball speed looking good all right last one with the proy here that one we just hit was really nice let’s see if we can do that exact same thing again right down the pipe with a little bit of a baby

Draw well more of a baby snap hook but uh that’s not bad it’s kind of in with the other one so again not too bad overall okay that’s going to bring us up to the driver now I’m very excited to see how this Odin ball performs against the prov1 off the

D stick all right we’re starting out with the prov1 this time we’re going to be using the same t height for everything and as usual if I didn’t mention it before guys remember the club data is not measured at all so we don’t care about any of like the angle of

Attack Club head speed all that is just guesstimated based on the other data all we care about is the ball data which is very ACC accurate finally measured so let’s go ahead and collect that data Pro you one up first let’s see if we can put some of these down

Range that’s not bad drawn back in there a little bit lower than I would have liked and a little bit slower but hey that is not a bad start let’s see if we can pump those numbers up just a little bit Yeah 150 ball speed is not the one

We’re looking for about probably about 153 154 since I’m sick Back Spin numbers looking good launch angle could come up a little bit that’s for sure I like to be about 13 or so but I don’t know we’ll see ooh that’s a good looking dry Frozen

Rope right out there again La Chango was a little bit lower than I’d expect only carried 250 as a result but hey overall those numbers are starting to come together I definitely want to know do any of you guys play the Odin ball or other direct consumer balls as you guys

Know I play the Vice Pro Plus but really I could play anything so if this one tests good hey maybe it’ll find its way to my bag I don’t know all right let’s hit some more drives with the provy and then we’ll tea up the Odin that’s looking much better that’s

More of the drive we expect 266 carry out to 294 15° launch angle 2300 Back Spin and 150 bore ball speed that’s a mouthful but yeah let’s keep going more drives like that please all right last drive with the prov1 here I think the numbers going to

Be very interesting we’ll have to see what the difference is but I like the way it feels it definitely sounds a little bit louder than the Odin like the Odin’s more of a like a compressed thump the provie one’s kind of more of like a tiny thwack I don’t know just something

Again that I’m noticing you guys can hear it you got the audio over there so all right one more and then on to the Odin pushed it out there a little bit to the right it’s not exactly drawing pretty straight ball flight carries about 260 out to 287 looking pretty good

Not unhappy with that little bit off the toe eight drives down with the provy let’s hit eight drives with the Odin and see how it does I definitely don’t know what to expect I never actually looked at the data last night after I finished up cuz that’s when I realized I made my

Mistakes and I just rage quit and went to bed we’ll have to see how this all lines up I couldn’t really tell from hitting the seven iron if there was any like noticeable difference on like spin rates or launch angle or anything like that so again I think it’ll be slightly

More noticeable when we get to the 58 but I might start to notice some patterns off the driver too so all right let’s hit eight down range oh my gosh could you ask for a much more perfect Drive than this that is straight down the pipe no spin at all

Little bit short 254 carry but man those are some numbers right there if I got that launch angle up a little bit higher that thing could have been pip it’s a contender for the uh world’s most pure golf shot what do you guys think of that

I had a video idea for hitting the world’s purest golf shot is it possible to hit a golf shot with any club with zero side Spin and zero kind of angle so you’re going straight down the line with no Sid spin is it possible let me know

Let me know if that’d be a fun video to film I think that would be an insane video to film it would probably never happen but hey those are the ideas I come up with out here all right back to the actual video let’s hit this OD in a little bit more

There we go that’s more of the flight I was looking for a little bit of a baby draw carries 260 exactly 260 out to 290 perfect drive those are the numbers you like to see I like to place in order for six more of those drives

Please that will work as well just a little bit off the toe so we lost some distance there but hopefully these drives are going to be good and this is what I’ll be taking tonight into SIM league as well I hope you guys enjoyed that previous video we made with Pops I

Love playing with Dad whether it’s outside or it’s actually in the Sim league so that’s going to be a very exciting series hopefully we can keep up those top finishes we’ll see how we do but I want to bring my aame tonight even if I’m still feeling a little sick so we

Can go low again one thing I’m definitely noticing already is I feel like I’m having a little bit more trouble getting the height I normally get I like to be right around that 13° launch angle I’ve had a couple nines a couple 10 here with the

Odin so far again not trying to swing any different we just want to see what the results end up being and so that just one thing I picked up so far three shots left well we’ve got a nice little grouping out there at about 280 well 282

Apparently so see if we can put one more straight down the pipe and then I think it’s off to the 58° well sprayed that one and spun it a little bit there that data is probably getting thrown out but that’s okay we’ve got plenty of other good data out there

That is why we only take six of the best eight wait that’s why we only take the best six out of eight and yes 58° time I’m really excited to see these spin numbers let’s go all right it’s the Odin X1 up here first with the 58° and our

Expectations here probably carry about 95 spin numberers about 9500 Back Spin maybe a little bit of a fade and what are we thinking launch angle I don’t know it’s like 32° or something like that I that’s what we normally get so we’ll see how we work out oo really good looking first shot

Here ped it right down the middle little bit of a baby fade carries 96 out to 100 9800 backman 33° launch angle I mean I guess that’s the fun part of owning a simulator is you really get the feel for what the actual numbers are behind your

Shot so all right we’ll see if that keeps up let’s keep hitting them just like that oh yeah back to back beauties that is another great one a little bit less spin than the last one side spin I mean Back Spin about the same as well 9500 33° launch angle

Beautiful all right last one here with the Odin X1 see if we can put another one straight up and down drop it right on that line pulled it a hair but it’s still looking pretty good we’ll see what we get for final numbers here dispersion

Wasn’t as great as I would like it to be 96 33° launch angle looking pretty good all right let’s swap in the Prov one for the last session and then we’ll hit the data let’s see if we can just put some good swings on this prov1 collect that

Nice neutral data see if we can tighten up that dispay verion a little bit as well that would be good to see oo that’s a pretty good looking first shot if I do say so myself launched it up there lost a little bit of distance but that’s all right launch

Angle and spin numbers were pretty good just kind of slid under it just a hair looks like almost the exact same shot with the second ball here consistently a smid shorter I don’t know we’re starting to paint a little bit of a picture here all right let’s get six

More shots in here then we can really analyze the data and see what what it’s saying all right we’ve got a pretty nice grouping of the provie ones here they’re definitely a hair shorter and probably a hair Spiner as well but they are spinning a little bit too much you know

Sideways I feel like I should be hitting more of these dead straight up and down but hey that’s what I normally play so I’m at least glad we got something consistent going on here so last shot and then we get to compare the data and

Then we get to chop one of these in half let’s go well she’s a little little bit chunky I got a little bit too much of the mat on that one so it’s not going to get out there quite as far lost a little bit of distance but hey overall that’s some

Good data let’s check it out all right here we go guys with the data and like I said we’ve got two sets of data to show you guys so we’re starting off with the seven irons here we got the Oden X1 up here first 114 mph ball speed 20° launch

Angle 5100 backspin distances again don’t really care too much but we’ll take a look at them anyway we had 166 carry out to 179 trophy won we’ve got 118 ball speed so the provu one was actually quite a bit faster that could have just been a function of me warming

Up a little bit but hey launch angle 16° so quite a bit lower actually that’s kind of interesting and then spin rate 5300 pretty much identical maybe a little bit higher carries 170 out to 184 again those are some good numbers for me with a seven iron moving on to the

Driver we’ve got the prov1 up here first 153 ball speed exactly what I predicted being sick 14° launch angle 2 400 backspin carries 260 out to 288 that is almost exactly what I predicted which is pretty cool to see and then compare that to the Odin we had 155 mph so a little

Bit faster 12° launch angle so a little bit lower of a launch angle spin was 2300 which is slightly lower but definitely not enough for me to call that anything definitive that’s for sure carries 255 out to 284 so we carried a little bit less and as a result traveled

A little bit less so and then we move on to the 58° we’ve got the Odin up here first 82 mph ball speed 32° launch angle with 9600 backspin compare that to the proie one we’ve got a 35° launch angle so again the Odin appears to be

Launching a little bit lower than the provie spin numbers pretty similar 9800 versus 96500 maybe slightly less spinning if anything here but again that’s definitely close enough where it’s not going to make too much of a difference it depends on how many balls we hit really carrying 88 out to 92 yard

Here carrying 96 out to 100 with the Odin so the Odin was a little bit longer off of the wedges and that’s probably just a function of the ball speed there being 82 versus 79 all right let’s hop to the data from last night and see how

That compares all right and here is my last night’s data here seven iron with the Odin 113 m per hour 4700 on the Back Spin with a launch angle of 19 compared to the provy which was a little bit lower launching well pretty much the

Same 19 to 18 really in 5400 prov1 was a little bit spinni ball speed a little bit faster on the provy but nothing really to write home about 156 mph off the driver with the provy 11° launch angle 2500 backspin and then the Odin X1

Was 153 so was a little slower off of my club face there 12° launch angle 2200 backspin very interesting and then off of the 58° wedge we had 82 mph ball speed 33° launch angle 9500 backspin for the Odin and then for the provy we had a 33 degree identical launch angle 9,400

Almost identical spin rates there on that thing and the provy was a little bit slower as well so again that’s something we saw with our data today as well the provy was coming off a little bit slower and maybe a little bit higher as well than the Odin so let’s go ahead

And talk about what we found here all right what are my thoughts what are the conclusions on the Odin X1 I would say there was nothing really definitive in the data we had some shots that were coming out higher some shots that were coming out lower some that were coming

Out more spinny some that were coming out less spinny but they were all pretty much right in the same ballpark as the prov1 but again the difference is more of the things we can’t see right like we can measure this data all day long but what we can’t see is how consistent is

Odin actually making these golf balls Prov ons have been tested over and over thousands and thousands have been cut in half measured tested checked for concentricity is that a word tested for circl roundness spherical sphericity time out y’all giving him credit for knowing how to read you Stu up what I’m

Trying to say is how consistent is the quality control process with the Odin that we don’t know it needs to be tested over time but the numbers sure suggest that it can keep up with the prov1 out on the course so do you get a circle

Every time is the core going to be the exact same density every time is there going to be any reg grind in there is the core going to be a little bit offc Center those are the things we don’t know what we do know is Titus definitely

Has that is it worth the extra what $20 or so $25 to get a dozen prov1 versus a dozen Odin I don’t know the answer to that that is up to you and it depends on what level of golf you are playing at but hey let’s go ahead and check the

Durability as well that is one thing I promise you guys and then let’s chop the Odin in half and see what we get inside our golf ball all right here’s the prov1 guys I was trying to line it up with the stamp right on top every time so we

Would always hit it kind of around this Edge you can see it’s taking a little bit of damage there but remember we’ve hit about 20 or 30 wedges into this thing so it’s definitely going to take a little bit of surface damage that’s for sure I would say it’s definitely not

Significant this ball was definitely one that you could still play out in the course so tit list holds up really well now let’s take a peek at the Odin again going right around the stamp let’s see kind of what we get on this backside

Here you see a little bit of wear to the paint nothing major but definitely some chipping in there where we’ve been hitting it quite a bit a little bit of a scuff there on the corner I would say the Odin definitely took a little bit more damage than the provie again I

Don’t know if that’s significant but that’s definitely a ball that can still stay in the bag and can still be played all right let’s chop it in half and see what’s inside and here is the specimen that we are going to cut in half guys

Let’s go ahead and chop in and see this three-piece design in action all right pretty much lined up right down the middle as much as I can definitely feels pretty firm as we’re cutting through it as usual I did not Center this cut because it’s really hard to do behind the

Camera but let’s go ahead and see what we got inside here Odin X1 here we go what do we get inside ooh very nice kind of pearl finish inside almost there you can see the three-piece design we’ve got the cover we’ve got the slightly darker mantle there and then we’ve got the core

Layer again one of those things we want to look at is what is the consistency like between all these balls is the size of the cover the same on this right side as it is on the left side as it is on the top and as it is on the bottom the

Mantle almost looks a little bit thicker up here on this part that it does down here maybe that’s just the light playing with me here but let’s go ahead and take it into some better light so you guys can really see that yeah it’s really

Hard to tell but I feel like the mantle up in the top left is a little bit thicker than it is down in the bottom right again it’s very difficult with the light to see if that actually is what’s happening here but again I’m no golf

Ball expert so take that for what you will these are my opinions only and what we found chopping this guy in half so let’s go ahead and get my final thoughts here and we will conclude this video all right guys ultimately the decision is up to you the data shows that it can

Definitely keep up I’m pretty happy with it I would have no problem playing it out on the course that’s for sure will it make it into my bag I don’t know we’ll see I don’t usually buy a lot of golf balls you guys know that I think

That’s going to be it for this video guys make sure to tap that subscribe button join the Muskrat Links golf team we’ve got so much cool stuff here on the channel we’ve got a couple bangers coming down the pipeline for you guys as well so I think that’s going to be it

For me have fun out there Everyone W
