All right gang so again we’re on this awesome series with Virgil today just pumping out the videos for you guys he just made the part of three on the seventh hole here it looked like a piece of cake well the good news is I’ve always been

Able to hit it the bad news is I missed it even looking at it that’s exactly right so I’m trying to find all the tough places for Virgil day so we can sift through these what-if scenarios and really trying to put together a game plan for you guys that may not know what

To do right so here’s a classical inverted behind the camera here just kind of like yeah you can’t find all these holes right I don’t have a number I’m like I know it’s like I’ve been waiting for this moment we’re 240 flag if you’ve ever been here at Indian Hills

That green is approximately 17 yards wide there is nowhere to miss right it falls down goes in the hazard you can kind of go a little left when I say a little approximately five more yards and this is about where most of the amateurs end up off their tee shot now for you

Big dog you got maybe five or three would in your head for maybe even less than that for a Target distance and what club you got going yeah but for an average amateur let’s just say you’re in that three wood zone for them right so this would be a very similar idea just

Maybe a different number sure how are you going to tackle this so if my my mind always goes to math right so if I had to play this shot a hundred times with this is in between five wood look I have to really back off the five

Wood a little bit it’s a dangerous shot when you got trouble on both sides or lay up to my favorite yardage which is right around 85 yards so I’m 240 I got 160. so if I played 108 iron sand wedges and 105 wood and whatever’s left what do

I think would give me the lowest scoring average over time well just judging what I see here there is no doubt that even though I can get there with five wood and I could maybe stomp hard four and Get It Up close there’s very little to gain compared to a really simple eight

Iron and a really easy for me to hit 58 degree wedge so let’s let’s paint that picture you’re talking more like 100 shots and there’s nothing other than you just playing for score that’s right but I would imagine if you and I are in a match and you’re two down at this moment

And there’s two holes left yeah you’re gonna get in your hand forced a little bit it’s time to man up and do something maybe right or are you still playing the math well it really just depends at that particular point so if you hit first I’m gonna my decision based on what you

Just did right if I’m hitting first there’s no question I gotta hit five Woods let’s say I’m in play but it’s an up and down right so but you know I’m a good wedge player I’ll get it up and down for four right I’m up close I

Didn’t get on the green but I’m in that ditch I got a 30 yard up and down I’ll get it up and down or I have a very good chance yeah I would probably say I have to I have to expect that you’re going to

Get up and down so I have to have five foot yeah so they kind of force the force the scenario and then if you’re protecting the obvious just becomes hit eight iron wedge right and just play play to make them make a number that’s right right yeah when you put me in a

Two two down with two to play mode I definitely have to I’d have to go five wood if it was one down with two to play okay I would probably still play strategy awesome I would still play strategy so here’s what we’re gonna do we’re gonna let Virgil have at it I’m

Gonna be behind the camera for a minute and we’re gonna let them play both scenarios you’re playing yourself basically you got the eight iron layup scenario to your number right now real quick tidbit on that before we keep going is that any different Landing it in the Fairway than the green do you

Anticipate they kind of a bounce to a different number or are you trying there’s uh yeah well I mean it’s still a little dormant and a little wet I’m probably not going to it might even be in this ball mark up there but I don’t

Expect it to run out very much okay but you would take that in the series oh definitely take into consideration in about a month yeah when this is like July June it’s like hard firm all right so he’s gonna play the eight iron and he’s gonna play the five lid and we’re

Gonna have a little fun with it he’s going he’s elected with the five wood first so so I’m going to hit a cut here which is dangerous but I’m going to take it at the right edge of the green I might choke up on it just a tiny bit

Oh it’s an absolute Peach I hit that just good enough oh that’s pin High that’s pretty good right there that’s that is what you don’t want to see if you’re on the other end of the spectrum now for here at eight iron this is like just I almost call sometimes I use these

Shots to find my golf swing because it’s I’m wide open there’s nothing really in my way here I just there’s really nothing even take into consideration there’s no better side of the Fairway to be on yep so I’m just put a standard move on it just gonna put a good move on it

Find a good feel and again just like picking up a spare and bowl and baby ain’t nothing to it yep what you got for a number there big dogs you hit today oh you’re pretty in close yeah so that’s pretty good right so 80 yards this is like absolutely

Perfect three-quarter 58 my favorite shot I work on it all the time Green Light special for me let’s go now versus something really cool off camera real quick he talked about his eyes so you were saying you kind of feel like your eyes go a little right like

Demolish when you’re trying not to hook it that’s right so the golf swing follows your eyes so if you’re a player who struggles with a slice you could come in and feel like your eyes for a right-handed golfer you feel like your eyes are going out to the right yeah and

If you’re a person who struggles with the hook you might feel like your eyes go to the left so when I’m here I have I call myself a notorious hooker as a former long driver I try to get every yard out of it for a long time yeah and

Then I I didn’t want to hook it ever again so I’ve done a lot of things with the thing that’s helped me the most is getting the sensation now when I get here my downswing actually starts with my eyeballs moving on the plane then I’m wanting it to go and you’ll see if

You’re watching the video close enough you’ll see that my head turns yeah first a little first yeah yeah so this is a perfect three-quarter 58. that should be a dime right there baby I don’t know if he has to putt that so verses 5 wood is probably illegal is

What we determined because I mean it probably landed at 240 but dang son yeah so I got some decisions to make it’s kind of a a tightish lie with the grass growing into me and I could take it up high with my 62 or I could play something a little bit

Safer and take my 52 and bump it just short of the green here because it’s it feels pretty firm and it’s into the grain I’m taking my 52. and I’m going to try to land this ball it appears to me this is a double breaker when it goes up here it’s going

To go to the left and back to the back to the right so I’m going to try to land this ball I got to worry about this is a little soft here I’m still going to go 52 but I’m going to try to land my 52. right in this area

So do you go like any kind of like toe up or anything like that or not toe up toe down heel up a little bit when you get into grain um yes for sure I might even open the face a tiny bit just to get that Leading Edge away from the grain yeah

Um but right now I feel I am going to get choke up on a little bit so that yeah the club sits on the ground like this not like that left surface area on the grass allows you to have a much lower chance of hitting it fat so that

Makes you get a little closer to it but the better part too is when the toe bounces off the deck it opens that’s exactly right took the words right out of my mouth so just going to try to carry it just short of the green old school chip and run love it

I mean you wrote the script do it what what about a hundred times so that’s what makes this game so crazy is I’m over here thinking conservative is the right play but in this particular instance I just hit a perfect eight iron and literally I just flew my wedge right

Over this flag stick and I’m now going to guarantee lose because I just chipped in for Eagle because decade would tell me yeah that I should have hit five wood yep but the fear of losing oftentimes gets me and everybody the fear of hitting a shot that ends up costing you

Overwhelms the desire to hit the shot that you want to hit try to play the shot you want to hit and commit to it that’s probably the key to golf absolutely let’s put in with the Texas wedge just to give everybody a hoot and handy here you go this is your chance John

Daly has done this a dozen times what’s the trick to hitting it yeah so I really I believe in practicing putting like this right really yes entertain me because if you can keep the edge straight you’ll get the Sensation that you have to hit up on in a little bit

This will get the ball rolling so when I’ve struggled in my putting which hardly ever happens except all the time um I’ll get my normal grip and I’ll belly it and you’ll get the sensation of the putter of the wedge releasing and maybe I should help with this more

Often yeah like that all day it’s not very often that you lose with a birdie yeah in this particular situation I just played this whole 300 par and two balls historically speaking I gave you the answers you should definitely play the shot that you’re supposed to play but you got to believe

In it fortunately for me I pulled it off and that’s what this game’s all about it’s pulling off the shots you want to play
