I had said this yesterday or maybe it was the day before the the blues do feel like a team that while they’re still inconsistent that at least I know what I’m getting mhm more more often than I did before like I feel like the effort the performance you’re going to get
Incons you’re I don’t care how good you are you’re going to have stretches where you’re not great you’re have stretches where you are great we haven’t seen like the really high highs or the really low lows with this team but I do feel like there’s it they’re a little bit more
Steady than they were before there was a report on the athletic I can’t remember who who did it but he said this team would be essentially not win more than two or three games a year I mean at this season in a row and not lose more than
Two or three games in a row and that’s pretty much where they have been kind of Middle Ground just you know that’s what they are right now and I think you have to I think the notion that believing that they are a playoff team or a Deep
Run playoff team not right now yeah they they are they are good enough to play with some of the best teams but not good enough to put their foot on the throats of not good team team so you know when you are that inconsistent that’s essentially who you are good teams
Really beat the hell out of bad teams and and at least go 500 against the really good teams and this team is kind of it’s just up and down and so you have to take that with a grain of salt and just expect them to be that way this
Season I still think they’re a playoff team do you yeah really I do where where are they at right they still third in the wild card I think that this is this is a team that was going to battle all year to get a wild card spot and I think
They’re still going to battle to get a wild card spot okay so they get into the playoffs and then what probably losing the first round and I’m not being snarky about it I just I don’t think I don’t think that this team has been or was
Equipped to make a Deep Run I think they they were going to be a wild card team from the get-go Marc you got it pulled up where they at yeah they are about five points out of the second Wild Card Spot Nashville Predators own that spot
And then Edmonton is the first wild card team with 49 points but Nashville does have two more games played than the blues and a lot of teams do except for the Arizona Coyotes who are also at 42 games played I don’t think they’re going to catch Edmonton Edmonton’s got A plus 23

Concentrating on the problems of our of our teams the teams rooting for Nashville at plus one they’re not blowing anybody out granted it’s minus it’s better than minus 15 much better but if edmanson was sitting there at plus 23 and Nashville was plus 15 okay those teams are playing significantly

It it could be definitely different than other sports I’m conflicted on this because I don’t think you want to ever have the that that not that it’s a mentality but it can be that losing that losing mentality you don’t want to know what losing is like because you you

Next shot no I’m not but the success is what keeps you going back if you never hit that good shot you’ll never feel like you have the chance to be Tiger Woods and so therefore you won’t continue to play so having success does does allow you to stay engaged keep you
Kind of the the the carrot that you’re chasing after something that you have to go after because you feel like eventually you’ll get there I also think that losing exposes like who you really are too oh you know when you’re losing you’re down even think about just everyday life you go through something
And it’s your fault right like you you did something you’re you’re essentially losing in life you have an opportunity now to build yourself back up to learn from it to actually change to prove that human beings can change and you learn you grow and you know what it felt like

And then you got the and then I I slept through the first half of the Super Bowl cuz I’m think we should be playing this week and then I turn it on and watching the the Eagles play the the Patriots so I don’t think that feeling I I understand you want to get
Those losses out of the way because it’s so hard it is so hard to win a championship and if you got a team that’s good enough that that you know maybe you make a mistake here or there and then you sit on that for potentially
The rest of your career if you never get back to that point so I don’t I don’t believe that losing in the playoffs makes you feel better or or or gives you more I guess get at it because you did that I think just losing during the

Greedy for the ball as he should be but it makes the transition for a younger quarterback when you have younger receivers it makes their life so much easier to not have to throw the ball to one guy because he expects it every single play that this is what see you
You make a great point this is why we need to get away as football fans from the fantasy football mind of thinking where it’s like he needs a number one wide receiver no he doesn’t he needs an offense that can that he can operate in

The NFC we talked about it you no one on this NFC side we thought we we knew that the AF AFC side was stacked right when we looked at the NFC side I don’t know if there is a Hall of Fame quarterback maybe Matthew Stafford MH on the entire
NFC side I mean you go Dak no probably not yeah you know Jaylen Herz maybe not depending on how his career goes from from this point on NFC North Kurt Cousins would be the only one probably not I mean so I don’t think it’s that
Big of a a big of a surprise watching what the NFC side has done it’s just we knew that the AFC side had had more of the athletes and more of the not athletes but more of the quarterbacks under Center and we knew that that side
Was just stacked and we talked about it during the grid iron guys the NFC side is not not that it’s a cakewalk to get to the to the championship game but it has to be a much easier route than having to face Lamar Jackson or Josh Allen or Tu a tongue of alowa
Um the quarterback for the Bengals Jo bur Joe burrow when he’s healthy he didn’t play long enough forgot his name boy you move on quickly quickly Anthony quickly what have you done for me lately Jake Browning guy now but there were so many names on that AFC
Side and we talked about how hard it is to make it to the Super Bowl on that side on the NFC side we kind of expected this to be what it was we knew that the San Francisco 49ers would be would be one of the top teams but not because of
Brock P alone but because of the team and when you looked at Dallas you thought that maybe Dak could rise to that level but he’s not there yet so you don’t put him in that conversation so is not that big of a surprise for me to see
What this NFC side looks like from the quarterback position I just started laughing when I when I looked at this so consider this in the AFC burrow stad momes Lamar La Trevor Lawrence Allen these guys popped within either the first or second year and I mean
Popped CJ strad is a absolute stud as a rookie Joe burrow got hurt his rookie year and then correct me if I’m wrong he led the Bengals to the Super Bowl his second year his second year is his second or third that was his second year
Second year yeah heading back in the AFC title game in his third year this is his fourth fourth year so Joe burrow in his second year at the Bengals in the Super Bowl momes did not play much until the final game with the Chiefs then his second year stud yep
Lamar first six games in was all Joe Flaco then when they they made the decision to go to Lamar he saved their season took him to the playoffs as a rookie Trevor Lawrence his rookie year shouldn’t count because that was with Urban Meyer yeah we don’t count that one
His real first year was his second year yeah and he got the Jaguars to the playoffs won the division Josh Allen rough first year but then you know it didn’t take long for Allen to become a franchise quarterback you go to the end Herbert Justin Herbert thank you yeah
Justin Herbert another guy and Aaron Rogers even though he’s hurt but going into the season we talked about really how stacked the AFC side was but I’m just talking about right now yeah the young guys yes now let’s do this with the NFC shall we okay Bryce
Young I mean as maybe his second year will pop you’re not taking him above any of those AFC guys no Dak Prescott pretty good really good Rook are you taking him above any of those AFC guys okay me neither Jaylen Herz okay so Jaylen Herz popped in his second year yeah but this

But now there’s so many question marks the young guys in the NFC have not popped like the guys in the AFC that’s what really this is all about correct the NFC has had their opportunities and they’ve like passed on those guys or they’ve taken the wrong guy CJ St CJ
Stout over you know yeah so that that goes to show you I think what’s going on in the NFC it’s mostly it’s about the team the Lions are a really good team and Jared G fits perfectly with Ben Johnson the 49ers are a great team and Brock py f perfectly in Kyle Shanahan’s
Offense Baker Mayfields came out of nowhere but the Box roster if you even coming into the year you would say that the Bucks roster was better than every team in the NFC South oh yeah you just didn’t know what bit what you H you were held back because of the quarterback
People fell in love with car because the options weren’t great yeah people is me other other people did too but you look at the NFC the final four teams I think I think CD it’s it’s it’s about the the team and where the team is right now
Yeah I agree the the teams are really playing well I mean I’m looking at the Detroit Lions they’ve played well I I love what Dan Campbell has done not just for that team but for that entire city I think he is he is what Detroit is if you
Ask me like that that’s a Detroit guy Blue Collar work his butt off and just grind it out and his team fits that mode San Francisco they’ve played outstanding this year now I I think they’ve done a great job Green Bay is I don’t know how
We got here but we’re here right they are they are the one of the surprises of this season based on how badly they beat up the Cowboys last weekend and then Tampa Bay you just hit on them how are they here as well because shaky bakey was nicknamed shaky bakey by you yeah
And felt that he was not wrong supposed to take a team anywhere and here they are one game from the NFC championship game so yeah these are these are really good teams on the on the NFC side I don’t know that any of the teams are better than Baltimore as a team though
Baltimore Baltimore is the best team when they went out to Santa CLA and whipped whipped the 49ers they look you’re number one right now until the foreseeable future MH do we see any of these NFC teams giving the AFC Champion a run for their money in the Super Bowl
Or is the 49ers really the only team I think if the 49ers played the Ravens it would it would look differ I’m not saying the 49ers would win like when the 49ers lost to the Eagles in the NFC championship game we all knew we were
Robbed of a great game and Brock P got hurt when yeah when he got hurt Debo Samuel afterwards went on Michael Shin’s uh that’s not his name Adam Shin’s radio show and said we would have beat him by three touchdowns said py not get hurt and then they went in
There in Philadelphia and absolutely whipped them and proved Debo Samuel right man handled them yes but when you look at a potential rematch between the Ravens and the 49ers I don’t think we were necessarily robbed of a of a of a good game I think the Ravens just took
It to them but the 49ers are good they’re skilled their coaching is excellent I just think we we’d see a much closer game are you are you because I I I know we picked you and I both picked the Ravens the Ravens and the 49ers for for a Super Bowl and I know
We’re still a week away from before the season before the season correct I still I know we’re still a week away from NFC AFC champion games do you see a chance where Detroit actually can take care of of the um 49ers if they if that’s the game in the
Matchup do you see that that as a do you see that as a possibility I’m trying to because I feel like I could for some reason I don’t know why I Detroit just they’re different than what they have been so I’m get past the books but yeah
And I’m thinking I’m thinking of the the potential matchups Kyle Shanahan versus Joe Barry there’s going to be nothing left to Joe Barry by when it’s all said and done Aron Glenn who’s the defensive cord Joe Barry is the defensive coordinator for the backers Aaron Glenn is the defensive
Coordinator for the Lions and he has done a remarkable job of changing things for that defense the Rams left a lot of points on the board last Sunday night McVey and Shanahan run similar offenses I don’t think that Shanahan would leave as many points on the field
As McVey did yeah so if I’m thinking about from a matchup standpoint like do the Lions have a shot absolutely no question but Shanahan versus Glenn I’ll take that gotcha Johnson versus you know the the 49ers defense that defense is really good that defense is really good too so I wouldn’t
Pick I wouldn’t pick them I wouldn’t pick the Lions but I would say yeah of course they would have a shot because they’re going to play you hard they’re physical right if you’re not ready to play the Lions you’re going to lose that game you need to be physical with
Them or else they’re like a they’re like the B they’re going to punch you in the face they’re going to punch you in the face you’re not going to apologize about it but if you go up to them you punch them in the neck and say I’m still here
Let’s go then I think then now it gets into you know the the match match ups and stuff what about you do you think the Lions could give them a fight I think they could I think just watching how the L play football I obviously I picked them to beat the the Buccaneers
This weekend and I don’t think that’s going to be a close game but I think just the style in which there’s a thing about having confidence and belief like if you got it you feel like you can do almost anything and I think Dan Campbell has instilled something in those players
That they probably didn’t have because they’re the Lions right they they traditionally don’t have success to this manner and we saw it last year when they went into Green Bay and we talked about it there’s no way in the world that they should have beat Green Bay and they did
In Green Bay with Green Bay having the opportunity in Aaron Rogers what would be his last year not knowing it then an opportunity to make it to the playoffs yeah and they go in there and they beat them up and you’re like oh this team is got my attention this team got my

Didn’t no it all worked out worked out Jr we understand that you have a new piece coming out with the athletic and it’s something I think and I have been talking a little bit about throughout the course of the day today so what’s your focal point for your your latest
Article yeah it should be out tomorrow just kind of a working headline here who knows if they’ll change the headline but you know five questions regarding the blues retool we talk about the core who is in this core uh I list only two players in the Blues core and you know
I’ll tease that you can read the story tomorrow but um you know trades they could make who’s going to be here at the uh NHL trade deadline which is March 8th the blues only have 21 games left before that trade deadline the prospects everybody wants to know if the season
Continues or if it does go south uh which prospects could we see and also the coach who’s the coach going to be when we come out of this retool and also the salary cap with the team not in the hunt perhaps this year if that becomes
The case then will they plan to spend to the salary cap next year so a lot of questions to face I think as this Blues team goes through this retool J.R we were talking about the trade deadline and whether the blues are buyers or sellers how difficult is it to get a
Deal done with all of the no trade Clauses that most of these players have there is a lot and I was actually just putting that list together I mean we can go down it here with uh you know Sammy bla Oscar sunquist casber Captain Jacob BR they don’t have any Clauses but then
You get into the modified Clauses Marco scandella has a seven team no trade bunevich a 12 team no trade not saying that you want to trade him just mentioning him as one of the the guys who has one more year left on his contract and then the full no trades
Jordan Bennington Nick Ley Justin Faulk Tory Krug that makes things a little bit harder so Carrie this is a lot unlike last year where you had guys who you knew you were G to move Ryan O’Reilly Vladimir teraso and you were going to get some good assets back for them and
The blues did they Doug Armstrong did a phenomenal job uh getting first round picks and bringing those guys back but this year your unrestricted free agents to be guys like Kapp in who’s now out with the lower body injury uh he probably won’t be back until after after
The uh the break here and then aana who’s in Springfield maybe a Marco scandel you move and you could get a middle round pick but there just isn’t the return for some of these guys who are going to be unrestricted free agents so then you start looking to the next
Level of guys you know is it a Brandon sad is it a uh a Nick lety well those guys have term left on their on their deals and I think those deals are typically made in the off season so we’ll see what doug earr can get done
Jeremy ruford our Blues Insider with the athletic joining us right now in the fast lane if he can’t move contracts that he he wants to move or is willing to move then Doug Armstrong is essentially stuck with this roster so how does he improve a roster that
Contractually he he he’s not going to be able to have a lot of wiggle room with that’s been the situation for the last year basically I mean when you look at the no trade Clauses that he’s given out and in fact uh with Tory Krug it came
Into play in terms of invoking it I mean that’s just what happens when you kind of handcuff yourself with these with these Clauses and I realize they’re popular around the league as we get closer to the trade deadline by the way guys I’m working on a story about you
Know what’s the Rhyme or Reason about why guys get no trade Clauses and which GMS seem more appropo to give these out like candy uh so we’ll touch on that as we get closer to the trade deadline but it just makes it it tough It’s the Way
Of the NHL I get it if you’re Doug Armstrong you hear from a lot of agents who say hey this is what we want uh but uh it really does hamstring the organization so um you know if Doug Armstrong gets into a situation where he’s not able to move some of these guys
Then you’re right stuck is a a key word that they’re going to be uh heading into the off season but then it comes into using some of these assets and some of these draft picks to kind of sweeten the pot and see if you can entice some of
These teams to take these players that they might not want unless you add that asset you talk about hamstring and then and it kind of puts him in a in a position where you know this Blues team is a a middle of the- pack type of team
But they are struggling to get into the wild card and get into the playoffs does that impact all of that I mean not being able to trade and now what do you do with the guys that you’re going to bring up and also when you get to the draft
You being a middle of the road team not having a high draft pick but not also not being in the playoffs yeah it’s it’s a tough spot to be in and obviously last year it worked out well they got a top 10 pick you know maybe could have been a
Little bit higher but you get a real good player and dbo dorski and you get a lot of assets back for those players that I mentioned O’Reilly teraso so on and so forth but this year could be a lot different you could finish just outside the playoffs you could finish
Just outside a top 10 pick and you could have a situation where you know these guys just can’t be moved so I think that’s the reality for the blues right now you’re just going to have to make the best of of what appears on the surface to be a difficult situation for
Any GM not just Doug Armstrong but you know he he he tried to navigate the post cup you know he he signed some guys that you know in hindsight you probably wish that these guys wouldn’t have gotten as long of a term deals that they they did
And a lot of these guys that you expected to perform you know let’s put some of this on the players they haven’t performed either so collectively it’s all added up to the situation that we’re looking at right now J we can talk about the trade deadline and what you can and
Can’t do what a another high draft pick would do for this franchise can you talk though about what even one playoff series would do for the ownership group because if they miss the playoffs we’re talking about two years in a row where they missed the playoffs and this is an
Ownership group that con is constantly willing to spend to the cap yeah no it is it is something that we shouldn’t Overlook it it does affect the team it does uh I think you know the going rate we’ve talked about this in the past about $1.5 million per home
Game for the playoffs so you know if you’re guaranteed a couple playoff games you know three million is is nothing to sneeze at plus you know we always talk about the experience that some of these younger players could pick up just by playing one Playoff round you know you
Get two playoff rounds if you’re lucky and and that could be some good experience you know it It’s just tough because while I’m a proponent of you know make the playoffs don’t do anything crazy to to try to bolster your team to make it like don’t don’t trade any of
These uh you know first round picks or or some of your upcoming draft picks to put yourself in a position to go in and play one round and then you’re out don’t don’t do that but any experience is good experience but I think um if if you’re
The Blues I think you know truth serum you want one or the other you want to be able to play into the playoffs or you want to be able to finish at the bottom and get a high draft pick what really affects you is when you’re right smack
There in the middle so I think ownership has been Anthony ownership has been very committed uh Tom Stillman the chairman and his group have been devoted spending to the cap year after year after year but I just think it’s going to get to a situation during this retool and I
Remember Tom Stillman telling me this years ago if we ever get to that situation you know maybe don’t spend to the cap and it’s going to jump up to 87 million 87.5 next year and I I I would say at this point that I can’t see the
Blues spending to the cap Jr we were talking about it earlier about the blues being out of the playoffs right now about five points out of the Wild Card uh spot and my question for you is do you think that they have the ability to
Put a string of maybe four out of five wins or five out of seven to put themselves in position to maybe grab one of those Wild Card spots well they’re going to have to let me throw some stats at really quick that uh I just put together for this story so when Craig
Gruy was fired the blues were 13 14 and one right since then under Drew banister 85 and one pretty good right 8 five and one but they’ve actually lost ground in the standings they were uh I believe one point back of Arizona for the second wild card spot when banister came in and
Right now they’re Five Points back and also another thing to remember it’s not just how many points you’re back of the wild card spot in terms of saying you know how far out of the playoffs are the blues uh you also have to look at how
Many teams are ahead of you and back when buuy was let go there was just one team between the blues and a wild card spot now there’s three teams between them so there’s other teams that you’re going to have to Leap Frog to even get back into that wild card conversation

Nice job there there you go oh it’s fast on 101 ESPN which quarterback’s Legacy is is on the line the most in this year’s playoffs we answer that question next Which quarterback’s Legacy is most at stake I I think guys that this is an easy question even though there are several options I think it’s Lamar Jackson I disagree given his playoff history Josh Allen given his playoff history Lamar Jackson is about to be a two-time MVP of the league he has
Answered a lot of questions every team this season could have ass signed him mhm none did except for the Baltimore ravers they brought yeah they could have you don’t think the Atlanta Falcons could have or should have signed Lamar Jackson should they have yes I don’t know how serious Baltimore was moving
Him because he was still a raven he was but they allowed him to have the opportunity didn’t they yeah kind of a little bit it’s kind of like hey Carrie come on over you can have whatever you want in my house and then when you get
There need this in return when you get there I’m going to do some harm to you and you’re like what the hell it was available I’m like yeah it was available is well he he for me is not the one it’s Josh Allen and the reason why I think is
Josh Allen because we’ve talked about the top five quarterbacks over the last three or four years and Josh Allen’s name is often in that conversation but as I told you all earlier going back-to-back games without turning the ball over is not his style he tends to
Turn the ball over which when you turn the football over you tend to lose games and I think we all go back to that playoff game versus Kansas City a few years back where it was just whoever had the ball last was going to win we’re still waiting on that Josh Allen to
Return and I think we have been because we’ve seen it once we see it then we expect it we’ve seen that Patrick Mahomes since that game we’ve seen him carry a team and do all of the things win Super Bowls and do all of the things
That are required from a a true Elite future Hall of Fame quarterback Josh Allen to me is on that fence of yeah I can be a future Hall of Fame quarterback or I can be the Halla very very good and I think he’s sitting right there Lamar Jackson if you win two MVPs
What the hell are we talking about maybe he never wins a championship not great but you win two MVPs you put yourself in Elite an Elite Class of football players Josh Allen has not done that and he has not taken his team to Elite status to be
In a Super Bowl or playing you know in a championship game I think things have changed because the expectations for both teams but Marsh what do you think I think there’s three ways to sort of look at this question I think you have the original question of you know who’s
Legacy is on the line I think Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson are probably the Two Front Runners if of of that question I think another question could be which quarterback no matter what they do their legacy or the the the popular opinion of them will not change I think that’s
Patrick Mahomes if he wins and I think that’s Brock P if he wins I still think that people will say it was the team rather than Brock pie and then I look at who are the players if they win could just change the overall narrative about themselves I think that’s Jared gof and
I think that’s Baker Mayfield yeah that’s a that’s a really good call there at the end there yep those two definitely yeah if Baker Mayfield plays in the Super Bowl what the hell is going on you could throw you could throw Jord in there too based on what people were thinking of
Him heading into the year has he already changed Minds though I think in my opinion he has he has house money yeah I me people were like this guy’s not going to be able to tie his shoes let alone win any games to the Packers what he’s
Done has been very impressive it’s been very impressive now if he is a dud this upcoming week and then carries that into next year then people will go back to well you know had a few he had a few good weeks and right they’ll go back to
Thinking that he can’t tie his shoes the problem with First Impressions is they’re hard to overcome mhm and the first impression with Jordan love was that he was not going to be able to fill the shoes of Aaron Rodgers so now even though he’s he’s proven that he’s a franchise quarterback
At least in the short term and he’s comparable um or capable I should say he still has to prove that now because the first impression was what it was Brock per the first impression was wow kind of fun story who the hell is this guy this isn’t wow can you imagine what he’s
Doing and then he starts getting praise and then everybody goes yeah it’s the rest of the team though he’s going to have to keep winning and winning and winning and then eventually people are are going to have to realize that the kid can play with with everybody else see Lamar
To me I think he’s still got a little playoff stigma to him he’s got he got the contract he got a new o you’re right he’s going to win his second MVP MH but MVPs are not Super Bowls they aren’t but it it’s it shows
Who you are I mean you Super Bowl is a team award it it is the entire team we don’t F you’re absolutely right you are 100% right but nobody talks about the teams everybody talks about the QBs they do and that QB I mean he can play the
Best game now the difference is if he goes out there and stinks it up turns the ball over M multiple times throws a couple ofs puts the ball on the ground while he’s carrying it then you can say yeah this is this is an issue for him
Because in the big moments he’s not rising to the occasion yeah but for me I think he is um he he’s done enough and again it’s it’s for me just looking at it it’s Josh Allen because I need to see him rise to the occasion you have a
Perfect opportunity this weekend at home versus a Super Bowl winning quarterback you had the perfect opportunity last year at home against an AF C Champion quarterback in Joe burrow and you failed this is the second time at home you can’t lose this game at home two years

Hit needed to drive a runner in didn’t happen as as as often as it needed to um and and hopefully the defense is better the defense gets better by doing your job every single day being in the same position tring the same guys out in the
Lineup at the same spot every day I think repetition helps you be better you would think I would hope um and so I think you start there pitching giving you six seven Innings timely hitting running hitting with with Runners and scoring position and then very very good defense like the defense Nolan ronado
Had a rough start to the to to last year we were we we know cuz he didn’t win a gold glove first time that I think ever right uh yes 10 years in a row or nine years 10 nine 10 years so we know that he didn’t have the best start to his
Season defensively which is not what we expect so I’m I’m hoping that you fix those things and this team is better I’m not I’m not being I’m not being flippant here when I say this and I know that some people some people are tired of the negativity I get that I
Would I mean I would be too cuz you want to have hope for your team and you want to look forward to it and it’s like hey this is going to be the roster so why not start to put at least some positive spin on it but this is also part of my
Issue with the 2024 Cardinals as we know it when you ask a question like how are they going to win in 2024 the problem is I don’t know I don’t know how they win in 2024 I don’t mean win World Series I mean consistently win games the pitching
