The PGA TOUR returns to the mainland this week for the 65th annual playing of The American Express. This event is the first multi-course event of the season. Justin Thomas will be teeing it up for the first time this year, his first appearance in La Quinta since finishing T7 in 2015. He’ll be looking to replicate the form which saw him claim three-straight top-fives worldwide after missing out on the FedExCup Playoffs. Scottie Scheffler will also be in California this week and has three top-25 results at The American Express in his career highlighted by a solo third in 2020. He also managed a T5 at The Sentry two weeks ago. Min Woo Lee will also like his chances this week in the Coachella Valley as he concluded 2023 as one of the hottest on the planet with a pair of wins worldwide highlighting a stretch of five-straight top-15s. Others to look out for are Xander Schauffele, Tony Finau, Rickie Fowler and Will Zalatoris.

Multiple time winner on the PGA tour Scott Stallings with the hoodie another beautiful drive this was probably the most unique on tour when it when it was built um but he was concerned if you go back to draino Hall one that well done once you start to lose that uniqueness of an and

Green 112th in the standing so i’ like to get off to a good start good read sure was this point Scott Stallings this is the t-shot here at the stadium course from 182 yeah start of the day with a bird at the first nice saves at two and

Three Scott likes to hit a nice little soft draw this back left hole location sets up perfect for that flight shape about 6 feet away it it’s I mean if you if you study all the information about it it can certainly help you Scott Stallings found this camouflaging

Bunker players in front just on the green so he’s laying it up get himself a good yardage in there where we can spin it whole location just left of that TV tower you see there oh and stuffs in there Scott Stallings a look at birdie had a wedge

In ah Beauty there Scott Stallings you you almost have to be automatic inside of 10 ft if you’re going to compete this week slight dog layer from left to right with a big waist bunker down the right hand side bordered by one of the largest lakes on

Property and he’ll pick up that t quickly no issues whatsoever there for Mr Stallings our leader up the right hand side aggressive t-shot and that should leave no more than a par par par start speed for willly Z as he settles in with the putter Scott Stallings your leader at

Nine has taking dead aim at this one from 144 probably just a nice smooth nineiron there and that will get better as it uses that slope and that’ll funnel in there closer and closer and that’ll be a kick in birdie for an outward nine of 30 he’s straight out his ball flight

A little bit coming a little more from the inside Scott Stallings TAPS in at nine he’s six under now he is tied for the lead uh I think kahe heads prevailed and they were thinking of moving moving a t box back up into the the culprit area

Bombs away at the 11th for Stallings and a good start let’s take a look now the leaders off to a good start yeah bll way above his feet and that whole location tucked up against the water left so be careful and that’s smart just use the Contour and get it

Down close to the front of the green okay Scott Stallings get it back going again it was a good pitch from while SW of the green tied for the lead aggressive play driver it’s 379 at the 14th yeah missing a couple of Fairways uh again not a great

Angle oh hello oh no issue though yeah straight up the hill yep PR try here at the 18th Stadium of course SC Stallings to share so should finish up at eight under one back still just W birdie at the 18th so Boogie free today uh what are your quick

Takeaways from a pretty decent Thursday here uh in the Coachella Valley yeah I did the you know wedged it in a good spot I didn’t necessarily drive it great on the scoring holes I drove it better on the harder holes so par five’s a you

Know I didn’t get a chance to go for any of them in two so you know kind of had to play from the middle of the Fairway just some just off the edges and but you know kept the ball in front of me uh made a really good par on 10 thought I

Hit a great shot into the green and kind of kept the round going and you know uh 64s are good I played great on Sunday and Sony and kind of built some momentum and kind of carried that over from there and uh you know able to continue to work

On top of that uh to carry it into the day you’ve got a couple of top eight showings here in the past how is that maybe been able to help you formulate a game plan to run it through the finish line here maybe perhaps come Sunday I

Think more just the understanding how to prep like uh you know it’s my 14th season now and preparation in a tournament week like this is a lot different than it used to be you kind of see everything and I I think I played maybe nine holes combined at all three

Just kind of get a chance to see what it is I mean the courses haven’t changed a whole lot and it’s kind of right there in front of you so more just resting and kind of be ready you know the days are going to be long and you you got to stay

Aggressive cuz I mean the conditions are perfect this probably the best shape I’ve ever seen these courses in my career and uh and the weather’s awesome so you got to go out there and try to take advantage thanks for watching the PGA Tour on YouTube to watch another
